Poster's Ph.D. in neuroscience: Big Disgrace!! |
kwangi: "In some awful, strange, paradoxical way, atheists tend to take religion more seriously than the practitioners" - Jonathon Miller. I've found this to be true. I don't know if anyone can give reasons why it is so. If practitioners of religions do not take their religions seriously, what makes them religious practitioners? Perhaps they are all just pretenders (two-faced good fr nothing waste of everybody's time!) and atheists are right not to take them seriously. Well, someone has observed that its the opium of the masses. The masses? who wants to be part of the masses? |
Logicboy03: The turner of stone has spoken!Actually, its the stoner of turns! A blurry difference is a difference. You know, as we used to say: nearly can not kill a bird or a miss is as good as a mile! |
The fact that there is an epistemological difference between atheism and agnosticism should suffice! No more of this nonsense! |
I don't cook, so I have one hell of a time finding a good place to eat. Booze is no problem, though! |
Your best bet is to get another girl as soon as possible. Believe me! |
Delafruita: by "modern day creationists and religionists" i believe you refer to me which is why i'd respond.Read the original post again! The consequences of mutations you refer to may be negative or positive depending on the prevailing circumstances. In the case of the butterflies, it is a happy consequence! If you didn't know this much then I am sorry, but you know very little about the theory of evolution. If a recessive gene suddenly appears to helps a specie through hard times, so what? About sudden jumps in the last millennium, remember that there is no law that says how long is required before the next jump occurs. There are species that have remained unchanged for several millennia. I know that among the horses, there is a specie whose evolutionary lineage, so to speak, has been thoroughly and completely documented without doubt! |
KAG: Scientists say they have seen one of the fastest evolutionary changes ever observed in a species of butterfly. It is amazing that modern-day creationists and religionists are still asking silly questions here on Nairaland about issues that have been settled long ago. There is nothing wrong with the post. It says a'' gene has been evolved''. A gene that wasn't there before had been evolved. If this is not evolution, what is? the only problem with the theory of evolution when it was first propounded was the lack of explanations for sudden jumps in variations. This has since been settled by the theory of mutations (Mendel and De Vries). The gene in the said butterfly was not developed to keep the bacteria in check. The gene simply came in handy. The gene is a mutation that happened just in time. Another population of those butterflies in a different geographical population that have not developed that gene would still be susceptible to the bacteria |
Azumy: abioooThe resort to violence at every perceived insult (verbal, cartoon, video etc). Is it sustainable? Does it portray Islam in the best light?.The fact that the reactions are often spontaneous and not organised tells me that the perpetrators are usually a fringe section of the Islamic societies were this violence occurs. Consider the fact that the Libyan Govt has apologised to Americans. I do not think that this acts are defensible. |
lilcutie8916: Since evolution is the main reason we re here why hasn't a new species of human begin to surface . I believe evolution is a theory developed by a derailed mind (darwin) because the other option (GOD) is not acceptable to him so any else is acceptable , and the world (well mainly atheist in self denial) accept this because the concept of a higher beign is not acceptable to them. Stop ur denial and accept the truth.Charles Darwin was a Christian on the HMS Beagle, the ship with which he collected his data. His book, ''On the origin of species'', reflected theological views . Check it out! |
Theism: philosophies that originate from supposed revelations from a deity (e.g. Christianity, Islam, Judaism etc.) Atheism: opposite of theism or anti-theism (ie revelations and all deity are man-made!) |
Go to bed, li'l cutie, good night! |
CrazyMan: Both are dangerous.Should polygamy be declared an offence punishable by law? Can such a law be enforced in Nigeria? |
Adultery is a criminal offence in Nigeria but Polygamy is not! Isn't there a contradiction here? How do you take a second wife without committing adultery? |
A god that is as powerful and wise as you say would have nothing to do with your submission. You will be at his mercy. He won't need any prophets, messengers or clerics. Try something else, chum! ![]() |
The Islamic cleric in Pakistan who accused a 14-year old with down's syndrome of blasphemy has himself been arrested. Witnesses say that he planted the evidence in the girl's bag. When challenged by his assistants he was reported to have said that this was how they were going to get rid of Christians! This is a perfect example of where religious intolerance and religion get you! |
Dumbass poster! |
truthislight is the one going out of topic and is insisting that others don't! What is he getting so heated up about? In the U.K. for one, bigamy is a criminal offence but adultery isn't.In Nigeria, the reverse is the case because Islam and most African traditions permit polygamous marriages.Even many avowed Christians practice it! This begs the question: how do you take on a new wife without first committing adultery? Which makes more sense as far as protection of the family goes? I think it is hypocritical to criminalise adultery. This argument is a clear example of how quickly atheists-humanists-agnostics ''congress'' can easily degenerate into bickering that detracts from the main objective: how to minimise the negative influences of religion and religionists on our life |
Face book, GSM network etc didn't do anything illegal. But the pharmacists illegally sold a prescription drug to murderers and so they are culpable and no one can deny it ![]() |
One thing that can bring atheists, humanists and agnostics together is if they had a common agenda. I have advocated on a similar thread for a political agenda. A sort of manifesto that can be developed in a forum like this without having to gather together physically. Surely, wouldn't the average atheist, humanist, agnostic love an educational system with less emphasis on religion? Do you know that adultery is a criminal offence in Nigeria? Will it necessarily be so in an atheist -humanist-agnostic manifesto? ![]() |
Atheists, humanists etc need a political agenda. I hereby suggest one: The need to strengthen the law and order system (policing). Too many Nigerians believe that there is punishment or reward hereafter and would rather leave grieviances for ''God to Judge''.We cant afford to wait until everyone goes to church on sundays. We must make laws and enforce them here on earth.Make laws work! |
seriallink: It seems this thing is becoming a religion...nothing wrong with having pastors as long as the pastors dont tell their followers they have a revealation from an unseen god, and their is hell to pay if you dont do as they say, ask for as for money. |
S'pose I play the devil's advocate here and suggest that self-sacrifice is not always the noble act that it seems: Most times it is out of sheer foolhardiness! ![]() |
place it on the grill for how long? I like my grilled fish very dry! Served with sliced onions and tomatoes If you like it as dry as I do then try open-air grilling! |
This is not 2004 BMW 5 series. It is 2003 5 series! All prospective buyers should google 2004 BMW 5 series to see what comes out! |
MacDaddy01: From watching the debate between Hamza Tzortis and Dan Baker, I realised that there was a question of hell's infinity.I must confess that am usually perplexed by people who try to reason with religionists! You would go round and round in a never ending debate! |
