Allohrandy: meanwhile in AfricaIt has reached its zenith. From now it is downhill all the way ![]() |
U09ce: Seun, I don't expect these words from you as the Administrator here. Why would you characterize muslims with violence?I would like to say that : Islam section welcomes any sensible and non-derogatory question posed to it.This is Seun's point: Any public forum worth its salt should be able to withstand posts that are senseless and derogatory. Any religion whose members must rant, threaten and kill because of derogatory remarks is immature, insecure and should be isolated in some remote corner where it would soon die because of in-breeding ![]() |
mumumugu: Investigating AtheismYES ![]() |
plaetton: I also know that you also do not believe in this god, despite your pretences.C'mon, @davidylan, is that right? |
This is a wake-up call of some sort for all of us. The good doctor has paid the ultimate sacrifice. The question is: Is it wort it? Is it wiser to just live your own life and let ignorant people wallow in their blissful ignorance? Just look at the amount of effort we exert trying to persuade supposedly educated people on this forum! Perhaps better to let the society come around in its own time? |
greatgenius: ok i see your position now and you can make an argument.. but i will have to disagree.. my take is that babies are not born agnostics..agnostic like theism and atheism is a "belief" or a position/idea about something-in this case God.. babies have none of these..they have no beliefs.. at least not from an earthly point of view..Ok. so babies are neither atheists nor agnostics. I agree with you. But they are not born with religion either; and between religion and agnosticism/atheism I think a baby is born closer to agnostic/atheism than religion. A tabula rasa is almost the same as the absence of belief. A baby fed with only what everybody agrees are self evident facts will end up as agnostic adult. there is nothing wrong being skeptical of the things you don't understand..following blindly is stupidity. this is why most religious folks are still living in "darkness"...but understand that disbelief is not the same thing as non-existent well the evidence for God is all around you..the problem is that you think God is what you have been told about mostly in the bible/koran..Your posts indicate that you believe the force from the begining (the first cause god) is what you are refer to as God? I think there is a need to give this force from begining a different name other than God because there are clear differences between the Abrahamic god (Biblical/koran god)and this god all around us that you refer to. The laws of nature that we all obey are the only laws from the first force. We all learn these laws by studying science. Nothing new here. |
My question (concern) is this: Does any of the religion in practise have a prepared argument or explanation on religion and evolution?Only science propounded the theory of evolution. Any religion laying claim to or trying to align itself with the theory of evolution as propounded by Charles Darwin is a fraud. |
Pastor Kun: True christianity is not a religion but islam is.Baloney! |
italo: @ turnstoner,Oh! there are more: Because of your delusion, you have become bemused and confused. Your long-winded posts above are after thoughts that clarify nothing. Your beloved catholic church is dying. Don't let the couple of likes you get from your companions in delusion deceive you! |
mazaje: Italo stop trying to hard. . .The genesis account is a myth. . It never happened and it is not true. . .A cardinal that knows better than you has stated it. . .Why are you still fighting yourself?. . .Don't mind @italo. He is delusional ![]() |
Not true. Historically, the Catholic Church has undergone and endured countless and continual persecutions from the most powerful governments in the world. America and China are just two of today's examples. I will expantiate if you need it.The highlighted is granted but the fact remains that perhaps, learning from its experiences historically, the catholic church aligns itself with prevailing powers or forces [e.g.: the overwhelming influence of modern science] and tries to re invent itself and stay relevant. Catholicism is not equal to science. It is far superior. When it comes to winnowing deep insights from deep nonsense (skeptical scrutiny),catholicism can't stand a candle to science. For this purpose, all nations teach and fund science not catholicism. The big bang theory and evolution are not conclusive and they are not incompatible with Catholic teaching. That is not the point. History is replete with people who unwittingly contributed to the growth of science: Charles Darwin, Isaac Newton and many others were devout christians (or at least were beginning to have doubts about their religions) when they propounded great theories that contributed to the growth of science and the decline of religion Because he wanted the Church to change the way they interpreted scripture based on a theory that he was yet to prove conclusively. Indeed, parts of that theory have been scientifically proven to be wrong.Parts of the theory have been scientifically proven to be wrong? What about the the other parts that have been proven to be correct? Galileo was only one poor man Vs the almighty catholic church. The church gagged him and you have the effrontery to suggest that such an organisation is not threatened by science? Catholicism, as it is today, is nothing more than a glorified social club. Those of you who rely on it for subsistence and whatever else you do with it are welcome to keep it. Just don't expect sane and discerning people to join you in your delusions. |
Nadia_sa I can be a very religious person.. |
A lot of frivolous posters in this section! 3 pages of nonsense for uncorroborated and contradicted hearsay? You guys need to aim higher ![]() |
if the site owner is an atheist, why does the forum even have or need a christian section. if I owned a forum, i would not have an atheist section, since i am not one.
Of course, religious people are intolerant. No surprise there ![]() |
italo: What is wrong with science. The Catholic Church has always embraced and supported true science knowing that it can never contradict the true faith. Both are paths to arrive at the truth, only, faith transcends the scope of science.Just so you know: The catholic church is not a path to arrive at any truth. Historically, what the catholic church does is to align itself with prevailing powers or forces and tries to legitimize(preserve) itself by so doing. Equating catholicism with science is a hilarious deceit. So catholicism agrees with the theory of evolution? Then it can be safely assumed that it does not agree with the biblical account of the origin of man. I wonder how catholics can still refer to themselves as christians. Does catholicism also agree with the big-banng theory? Why was Galileo persecuted by the catholic church? |
Logicboy03: No, he is confusing the use of immaterial concepts such as logic/numbers in science with metaphysics guiding scienceYes! @uyiredia sometimes sounds like an armature philosopher or philosophy student trying to ram some half-baked ideas down our throats ![]() |
here is a typical example of what happens to Nigerian owned businesses: Once more than mere subsistence has been achieved the proprietor no longer cares about the opinion of the individuals that patronize him. Vanity is in control now! |
Have ye all noticed ? McLatunji is the new mod! ..and we thought seun was an atheist! What's in this for him? filthy lucre? or has he been blackmailed ![]() |
CarCam: @turnstoner# @carcam, you sound like you are @seun's pseudonym: you are bending overbackwards to explain matters But unfortunately, your explanations are not helping matters! |
Logicboy03: I now see what you mean.Really? What does he mean? Consciousness = God? |
CYOA my asss ![]() |
This is what Catholicism is all about: Keeps re inventing itself. But the Roman era reinvention has turned out to be an albatross This cardinal is following a well beaten track that might become the final nail in the cof.... |
italo: @Op,Oh! It makes it true, eh? |
