Well Phema own get levels ooo, if my VO face phema's "burden of proof" she will ask to be transferred sharperly . Proof pass proof abeg . VO wey start our interview with "Shall we begin by thumb printing?", na there i suppose know say na church service we con do. I talk so tey saliva finish,spent like 15mins for an interview that was suppose to last 5mins.

IyawoToBe: While sitting for our number to be called, we were observing other people's interview. Infact out of about 60 people that were interviewed before us that morning, only about 8 were given, 4 out of which were people in the force. There was this particular young black American lady in window 1 that wasn't even giving her interviewee chance to prove their case, she was kinda mean. She interviewed about 10 people and didn't give any. Myself and hubby were praying our number don't appear at her window. We stayed longer than usual in the interview hall cos our number was called late. Our number was eventually called and then came the moment

That was our VO, i didnt want to give specifics of her identity when i shared my interview here so she wont use vex retrieve our passport and cancel our visas. By the way am not sure she is black american, her accent is different,i have been with blacks, she is prolly an African immigrant who got drafted to the foreign service. My cute VO , incase you are reading this, most guys who come from this platform are honest people, they've been trained to say the truth no matter what. So give us listening ear before that blue letter.

NB: I heard that the Abuja consulate listens to applicants cases patiently before denying. I have also heard of more Administrative processing cases in abuja than lagos. So i am advising fresh applicants to try abuja if the stress wont be too much. The crowd in lagos can be alarming so i cant blame the VO's if they get impatient. Above all pray for favor ,when its your time no one can stop you. cheers

Sorry Ma'am, I was checking to read from you. Did you show the VO your budget aside the MIHS documents? If you ain't far gone you can reapply. Or can you try canada? , they hardly do interview. It's well with you, whenever i am downcast this words from rick Warren always console me " everything that happens to a child of God is father filtered". God knows about it, so be assured.

@dinawe..... I chuckle at the thought of the VO detaining a 4 month old, to issue you visa. These guys can be funny but I can't blame them they've seen it all.

My definition of a good bank statement for childbirth purpose in the USA is a statement that can take care of a 15k maternity budget plus a minimum of 50% of that figure as extra or disposable income. Its a general rule that you should still have some balance to live on after you return from your trip. This bank statement should also reflect a good monthly inflow as some VO will search for your monthly inflow before checking your closing balance.

Furthermore, The monthly inflow should be close to what you or your husband declared on your DS160. For self employed applicants exceptions can be granted as a regular monthly inflow may not be possible so the law of averages will apply.

If you are reapplying alone the financial task should be a bit easier for you. As your husband can make a lump deposit in your account without getting the VO upset. All you need do is to explain that your husband did the transfer, some people on this thread have done that in the past without being penalised.

Note: some people may hold different views though. Good luck.

@6 weeks I heard most women won't even know if they are pregnant or not. You should easily renew via drop box and if it comes to interview show them your 13k receipt and explain the pregnancy.

malihamlagos: Hello Forum members. The interview was going very well yet I was told my documentation was not sufficient when I showed my documentation from the Hospital (I chose MIHS). I am very confused because the VO was very polite until I showed her my paperwork where she immediately took my documents and showed it to another officer.

Sorry about your denial. Truth is majority of VO's love genuine and cheerful spenders on their economy. Trust me, They've seen hospital quotes of 10k, 20k etc so Presenting a miserly delivery letter of $3k may not sit well with some. As a rule of thumb I will advice future applicants to go with a minimum of 12k to 15k budget with the delivery portion hovering around 7k minimum. The higher that portion is the better. El paso gave me a 5k quote but I increased it to 7k on the budget the VO saw. The aim is to show that I am up to the task. Since The denial is based on MIHS letter get a higher quote from another hospital and apply at the same consulate. Wish you the best.

NB: On another note ma'am you just registered on NL spending just 20mins and my mischevious mind kept wondering "hope no one is trying to settle scores with MIHS letter since I brought EL PASO letter under the radar". ? . I know those 2 places have die hard fans and aggressive marketers here . Dont mind my thinking o,it can be funny. One love.

damsell: Hi everyone. I just thought to come share my own visa interview experience at the Lagos consulate yesterday Sept9.

1. What @ Tvegas said in his post about the VOs at the Lagos office being just totally tired of seeing letters from doctoresparati is absolutely true. Call it a coincidence or something but I read his post in the early hours of Yday morning when I woke up to do some final preps for the interview and it was like his scenario totally reenacted itself when I and the hubby got to the embassy. Hard as I prayed that we would not get called up to the cubicle of any of those female VOs, it happened and off we went. Immediately, she found out that it was doctoresparati I was using, she let out one long exasperated sigh cum cry cum laugh.

My mum's own interview comes up tomorrow and hopefully we would meet a different VO cos I'm planning to go with her as I am the one who filled her application on her behalf, I pray it goes smoothly and successfully. Pls I have a question tho, as proof that her daughter and son in law who she's traveling with have gotten their visas, what can my mum present since our visas will only be ready for collection on Friday. Will the white form we were given be enough as proof?

Congrats on your visa damsel , i am happy your efforts yielded success. Now that i have a witness i hope other intending applicants at the lagos consulate will take a cue. We are getting these women irritated already and i think they keep sending couples to them on purpose. I dont want it to get to a point where that letter will be the reason for refusal, when you get on people's nerves they get impatient. The countenance of my VO was like (Haba Tvegas,i would have renewed your visa but why did you spoil it with this letter ). We were lucky, some other people may not be. Its time we research other good hospitals that can issue well written letters. I will love to join in this research because am also guilty of not searching properly before going. Oga justwise should let us know how to share information here without marketing.

As regards your mum, you may not be allowed to attend the interview with her. If need be she will be given an interpreter. Coach her about your trip. Let her explain that her children just got their visa approved on tuesday and she will be travelling with them. You can give her the photocopy of your confirmation page if that is available, i dont think the proxy form contains your DS160 number hence it will be useless to the VO.

IyawoToBe: They had better not change their mind o. I'm just a bit worried, I feel I'm being treated like a handbag, lol. During the interview, they directed most of the questions at my hubby. Now passport is ready for collection and they didn't deem it fit to inform me...

Why haven't you shared your interview experience babe ? You want to collect you passport first before you share abi? Dont worry what the lord has done is permanent ,they cannot change their mind. . Biko share

IyawoToBe: does that mean you were given seperate collection forms after the visa interview? In my own case, my hubby was sent a mail to come pick his passport but I wasn't. And we were only given one collection form. And when I tried tracking my application online, i got a response that there is no information on my passport number

Iyawotobe your passport is with me. Stop crying ova dia, better tell your hubby to pay me for collection . You are scared they have changed their mind abi? . Dont disturb yourself o, my guess is that most times they send just one mail to one of the couples they often dont have time to send two mails. Go there with your hubby,pick it up and come back to buy me drink.

justwise: Believe me genuine ones will always share info here and many have been doing that without any problem but there are certain individuals here who uses: we are here to share info to engage in indirect promotion/marketing, those are the people i have problem with.

Bro, i think the difference between sharing information and marketing can be confusing at times. So I will suggest you create a set of clear rules, so that people know their boundary. Kudos to you for your efforts so far.

Am Sorry if you are a real poster and not an agent. I just found it curious that 2 posters decided to open new accounts and share their experience with doctores letter at the embassy as soon as I gave my caveat. You also praised Melissa as if you shared same compound, person wey both of us never see? . It's good that we shared different experiences at least future applicants will be better prepared. Lol your albums are welcome naa, all are "burden of proofs". Just be prepared for any type of question but don't be scared it may come easy. I guess mine was longer because i have had it easy in the past and maybe God wanted to just show me it's not by the strength of my letter or proofs.

Sorry about your refusal Ma'am. Your husband' s business inconsistency may be a red flag to the VO. Lots of Nigerians lie to get visas, so they are always checking for changes in story. Changing business within one year does not show stability.

I will advise that you reapply only if your circumstances have changed, if nothing has changed you may come across as desperate. Like I have stated before NIV decisions don't depend on the strength of your documents but how you are able to convince the VO during the interview itself. Wish you the best.

Babe no be small matter o, i spoke till my mouth went dry. . The VO called my Nigerian name till i felt dizzy it was as if she was prepared for me. But we became friends at the end,she could have denied and i would do nothing. It was only God and our suitcase "burden of proof" that saved the day

This is the summary of our interview. We were interviewed by a thorough female VO.

Me: Good morning . VO: Good morning ( She was reading my DS160)
VO: Shall we start by thumprinting? When did you guys get married?
Both of us: We had our court wedding January this year
VO: Mr. XYZ in November 2012 when you had your interview you said you just did your traditional wedding how come wedding is this year?.
ME: I was dumbstruck because i had forgotten that casual conversation with the VO at the time. Anyway i explained that what i did was intro and we finalized our wedding this year. We haggle the matter but She let the matter rest.
VO: So why are you going to Texas
ME: Actually i am applying to renew my Business visa so i can attend the Bleep exhibition i usually attend in las vegas every year,i do get invites from the commercial service dept. However my wife is expecting our first child and she will love to birth in the US.
VO: So what do you do?
ME: I am the MD of Bleep company and we've got xx estate projects around lagos.
VO: so what is the cost?
ME: about 15,000 USD, i gave her the budget we prepared and she studied it line by line.
VO: which hospital are you using? Do you have correspondence with them?
ME: Yes, Del sol medical center. I handed the letter from doctores to her. They rank in the top 5% in terms of maternity care in the US.
VO: How did you find the hospital
ME: we did extensive research online and found this great and affordable hospital.

VO: she bursted into laughter and said "this doctores letter?". She said Mr XYZ why did you go for this option when there are better facilities?. We have been seeing so much of this here and conducted our research and found out that this Doctores xxxx is located close to the Mexican border and its where illegal Mexicans cross the border to give birth but you may not know this.

VO: i am not saying you cant use them but try and research other hospitals,you will get better offers. (i expected her to return the letter at that point but the interview continued)
VO: Do you have a bank statement, how much do u earn every month?
ME: On the average its x.xx monthly, handed her the bank statement.
VO: But i can't find this money in your account. (she went thru it line by line, applicants shouldn't think lump deposits will work there)
ME: Check the last page you will see the total debits and credits for the last 7 months. If you do an average what you have should be more than the amount i quoted.
VO: Turned to wife: maam what do you do?
Wife: I do XYZ business but i haven't been working for the past few months.
VO: She started typing on the screen. Mr. xyz have you travelled before?
ME: By then i was tired but i managed to talk. Well i was in the US this year, Canada few years ago for Bleep, etc etc. Wife and i had our honeymoon in Bleep
VO: Mr xyx are you staying for 10 weeks
ME: 5 weeks for me and 10 weeks for wife.
VO: Ok your visa have been approved. Etc etc

Lessons learnt
1. It may just be my VO or the discussion may be among the 3 female VO's at the Lagos consulate ooo. But It seems this Doctores parati letter is an overused path. Future applicants should start looking at alternatives. I am not saying Doctores isn't good , i may still use them but i intend to do further background check before wife leaves. Personally I think the letter will be useful at the POE. Finally,This whole issue may also be akin to calling a dog a bad name just to hang it and it may be restricted to the lagos consulate alone.

2. Anything you know you cant defend or explain in future interviews please don't say it at the interview. I never knew a casual conversation from November 2012 could pop up. Be truthful and leave everything to God. When you are honest there is no fear and you can speak boldly. I wish every applicant and all expectant mothers best of luck.

Just wanted to share my experience today, since we got all out info here on Nairaland and we prayed towards the VISA. I used Doctores Para Ti letter and there was no batting of eyelid from the VO.

Nightnigeria1: What? I just got approved today and I am going to El Paso. I got exactly the opposite reaction, as soon as I showed them the letter they changed thier attitude and almost seemed like I got approved since I was using Doctoresparati

I found it curious that these posters registered today to defend doctores para ti letter. Something sounds funny here, where have you guys been?. who interviewed you today? what cubicle? because i can recall vividly what all the VO's wore.Anyway i will post the transcript of my interview for the discerning. I think justwise isnt far from the truth when he alleges that there are agents on this thread.

Guys i followed wifey to the Lagos embassy today, had the longest interview of my life ever for like 15 minutes, at the end she was given and mine was renewed. The Lagos VO's are seeing too much of el paso letters ,they are even discussing it among themselves right now and that almost became our undoing,so anyone who hasn't booked appointment should research other good but affordable hospitals and honesty still pays.

I have a little headache right now,i will come online later to share my lengthy interview. @Phema, you will see that no be only you fit package "burden of proof" .

Your inlaw may also team up with that boy to deal with you in future. How are you sure he did not arrange the family show to break the news , so that he can reconcile with his boy since you don't have a son?

He has messed up by not giving you a hint on his affairs and he should smoothen this union a Lil bit. If he doesn't amend those documents right now let him know you have the right to buy your own properties. He will make amends if he is a smart man and stop making it look like giving birth to girls is a crime.

It's well ladies,i suggest both of you should reapply but don't change the venue to abuja ,that may raise another red flag so stick to Lagos. Sit down and do a critique of your DS160. @T4Tough I have seen people denied for flaunting heavy account balances they can't defend,so it's not about your balance. It's a combination of several factors. wish you luck

Checking our docs she would have seen it that we are more than capable of going and paying all our bills comfortably. But she didn't collect a single paper from us. Really don't want to get a second denial

Brooklyn there are many cases where the VO won't check documents and just deny. They have your DS 160 and most decisions are made in few seconds of glancing through that document. NIV visas are hardly granted on the weight of documents taken to the embassy,the interview itself is more important than documents.

Mirror mirror on the wall, hhmmmm i am trying to read the VO's mind,It seems the VO used her discretion to deny you or she wasnt comfortable with the earnings declared,coupled with the fact that you in particular havent travelled out before. At the end its all favor jare.

@Aisha and others please tone down your words already if the story is true this guy needs help. Wole admitted to making this mess,he just doesn't have the courage to wade though it and hence sought support from nairaland.

1. Do the right thing,muster courage and go for a comprehensive herpes and HiV test first. You may be killing yourself over nothing.

2. If the test is positive, Don't involve 3rd parties for now,sit your wife down beg for her forgiveness and break the news. Make haste with this to protect your children.

3. Above all pray and ask for mercy. As far as you still have breath in you,God is not done with you.

4. Do 1 and 2 above before coming back to nairaland, people have good justification to get irritated with you if you continue to wail without taking concrete steps.

It depends, if he can send one thats fine. But if he cant print out the email conversations between both of you and use that. However, i know a couple who were denied solely because they had no doctors appointment so try all you can to get a letter.
