Food › Re: The Dangers Of Eating Canned Foods by TWoods(m): 5:36pm On Nov 25, 2017
As a toxicologist, this write-up is mostly false for the following reasons:

ogedanny:
A canned food is likely to have BPA (bisphenol A) – a chemical known to cause breast cancer, reproductive problems, heart disease and other chronic health problems. Cans have a special covering made with this chemical. It accumulates in the body and its effects are not good. Eating canned foods has become a habit for many of us. This chemical (BPA) kills rats in laboratories even at smaller portions. This chemical causes hormone imbalances and a wide variety of health issues. You can try glass jars instead of cans for the storing of food.
1. It is highly unlikely that any company uses bisphenol A anymore in food cans as a result of the negative public perception.

2. It is not true that BPA is "known to cause breast cancer, reproductive problems, heart disease and other chronic health problems". This is emotions, dressed up as facts. Here are the facts - http://www.efsa.europa.eu/en/press/news/150121

3. BPA has not been reported to kill rats in the lab. However, anything in excess will kill any organism. Rats will die if you load them up with too much water.

ogedanny:
What most people are unaware of is that most often foods are put into aluminium cans, then sealed, and then cooked, supposedly to retain freshness. But it will certainly retain the aluminium free radicals hanging around after heating and contaminating the food. Aluminum accumulation in the body can cause memory problem like Alzheimer’s. Some people believe that the plastic lining of the aluminium cans is supposed to prevent corrosion and contaminating food with aluminium. But the truth is, most of the time, these plastic liners can’t completely protect the food against aluminium since can leak aluminium when heated and while they are sealed, they will contaminate the food.
This betrays a fundamental lack of understanding of how cans are made. Cans typically consist of at least two surfaces - there is the metal can itself, which may be made of aluminum, and then lined with a coating (often epoxy but also sometimes polyethylene/polypropylene). The coating is what contacts your food in the can, not aluminum.

The bottomline - canned foods are safe, if not safer than fresh foods.

that is not the reason, it's not even a 'small' school at all. Even if the VO told you that, you should have corrected him/her. The school has thousands upon thousands of students. The VOs don't know all. You just have to prove you're a genuine student regardless of whether it's a so called 'small or big ' school & ask for God's favour. Moreover, there is no 'big or small' school as long as you can prove your worth
Stay blessed
I bet you the VOs take a look at the school before your interview. Considering that the VOs are Americans, who probably also attended American colleges, i would wager they know more than you do about what constitutes a small or big school.

Good day sir,
I applied for 3 University and 2 gave me admission. The 2 skools that gave me admission required standardized tests but they gave me options of standardized test or work verification and a Case Study was sent to me online to answer and submit, which i did very well in the Case Study. My G.P.A is 4.2/5.0. I graduated 2011 and have been working since 2013. Will my not taking a standardized test be an issue? Ur response will be highly appreciated. My interview is next month.
Those are probably useless schools. Don't waste your money. A serious school will not use work verification in lieu of a standardized test.

It's a joke when folks ask of Medicare. Na una contributions? LOL. Seriously when pple ask 'innocently' it is because their bills skyrocketed and since the hospital doesn't trust u obeying d payment plan, the former pushes it to d govt. U push it here and expecting a favorable take, all in all, no free lunch, even d discount being bandied here, is being picked up by residents who work out their assessed.. Maintain ur trust with d embassy.. paying 100% no matter what. U need to apologize to that guy u guys always gang up against.. U know black lives matter involves u too!
QED. Its just that simple. When people ask for discounts and medicaid, they don't exist. Someone else is picking up the slack (either in form of taxes or insurance premiums). The hospitals happily push these as options since it is a lot easier for them to send government a bill than trust you to pay what you truly owe. Have the integrity to do exactly as you promised at your visa interview... pay 100% of what you owe. The idea of medicaid should never come up at all... black lives do matter, but we cannot demand others respect us if we can't respect basic rules of decency.

If you're upset about this, sorry. But the truth isn't going to change simply because you have a problem with it. Episodes such as the above are reasons i no longer subscribe to the Nigerian version of "christianity". 99.9% of the cheats, liars and uncouth folks here are likely the first people in church on sunday.

Where I choose to have my child is none of your nosey business! I'm not upset at all, I'm actually irritated by your overall responses on this thread and I know you can do better but you just choose to always sound cocky and sarcastic. Anyway since you have missed the point from my 1st response to you, I don't see you changing your mentality. However, if you come for me best believe I'll come back at you ✌️
Where you choose to have your baby isn’t my business, on that we are agreed. Except it exposes the utter inanity of you whining about others feeling privileged to live in the United States. Shouldn’t where I live be none of your business too?

What is good for the goose... it is your choice to be irritated by my response and your decision to respond to it as you see fit. It is my choice to be irritated by any hint of fraud... why you feel entitled to your choice and how I express mine is befuddling.

Stop generalizing! What's with this Nigerians this and Nigerians that! You do realize we are a nation of different tribes right? so why would you think all 186million+ of us think alike? You are not kowtowing to anybody, its basic human manners. Knowledge is freely shared on this platform and everyone deserves to be treated with equal respect. If you don't like how "Nigerians" roll pls look away from this thread and face somewhere else. You are trying to act more American than Americans. Or are you a VO in disguise? Say who you really are and state why you are always so disgruntled about honest people trying to have their babies in America. I hope you realize that lots of dishonest people with bad intentions don't bother to read up this thread? Pls be polite to people here or look away. If you have nothing nice to say, say nothing!
If there were all honest people here, this thread would not exist... i would encourage you to take your own advice. Politeness begets politeness. QED.

That’s why they are successful and we are not...and no amount of prayer will change that.

The 20 hour work week rule isn’t a scam, there are only so many ICE agents. They expect you to have the integrity to adhere to the law without being monitored. The day you’re caught though, there is no begging and no amount of fasting and prayer will save you.

Instead of you to answer with no bashing which doesn't cost you anything.someone like me don't even know what Medicaid is if not for this forum.most people innocently ask this question just to be more enlightened, informed and aware.the hospital people sound so convincing that you almost tempted to give in,so coming on a forum like this to get help shouldn't be an issue and stop generalizing Nigerians.its a good thing you are fortunate to be an American not everyone is interested in being one tho..easy Mr easy!
What matters is what you told the VO, that you will be responsible for 100% of your birthing costs. Anything else is an excuse. Of course the hospitals want you to get Medicaid. It’s easier for them to simply bill the government, with 100% guarantee that they will get their money, than rely on a promise that you will adhere to whatever payment plan they give you.

Most here are not genuine students, let’s just flat out tell the truth. Most want to relocate to the US first, education is simply the vehicle. That’s why folks apply to the same schools, without thinking of how they intend to pay for the education or live.

I thought we here to share knowledge. If you are telling him to go search for 2-3 years like you did when you could actually just tell him how you went about it in one post, then tell me, why are you here??
I don’t see a lot of knowledge sharing from you either. There is this warped mentality that “sharing knowledge” means spoon feeding you so you can simply come here and crib what I did without having to do any thinking of your own. I am here to have a good time until work starts up next week. I have zero obligations to you. Nigerians have a serious and sad aversion to thinking for themselves or outside the box. If you think 2-3 years of planning for YOUR OWN future is hard, then nothing I can do to help you. Me saying anything specific here won’t help, all we’ll see is hundreds of applications to the same school, for the same program with not even 5 mins of thinking as to whether you qualify for the application being sought. Everyone just wants something for free, no thinking involved.

Sharing knowledge to me means giving you the tips that helped me to succeed, like adequate time to plan, thinking about costs of living with respect to your eventual choice of school, places to go for better information etc. anything else is a waste of time.

lol this is part of the reasons i tell people to take their time and PLAN WELL... people think you're just trying to discourage them. Take at least a year to pick a school - based on your course of choice, opportunities for free money, job opportunities, cost of living etc. People just find a school, apply and then think about the salient things later, when it's too late. Even i will never live in Jersey city... those places are good for sightseeing only.

He's mistaking per semester for per year. One thing with school housing is that those dorms with meal plans are per semester so that there is break in between for fumigation, maintenance and reassignment of rooms.

I lived in one like that in my first few months in NM. Also the cafeteria would be closed during the 1 week midterm break. School dorms suck, living outside is the best except you're schooling somewhere like NYC or NJC or other expensive cities. Well, those NYC schools don't even have dorms, so you can only stay outside school.
I will weigh that with how much it costs to live outside of the dorms. Jersey city has the third highest rent in the US. Average rent here is $2700/month. Assume that is shared by 3 people at worst, that is still $900/month. Add $100/month for feeding (i'm trying to be really cheap here), $200/month for gas, electric and internet (again i want to be very cheap) and that brings you to $1200/month. At the end of the day, you pick your poison. If i had a choice, i would never go to school in a place like NYC or Jersey city when there are places like NM, Michigan, Wisconsin, Texas etc.

You can consider living outside jersey city if you can get cheaper rent but that is canceled out by transportation costs so you're back to square one.

I lived off campus all through graduate school, but i was being paid $18,500/year living expenses by the school, which was more than enough to cover the costs.

Its easier to get a new one. There is no point getting a visa on a passport that is going to expire in a few months. You'll be stuck having to carry 2 passports for the duration of that visa.

Looooool!!

I think people are confusing the US healthcare system with Canada/Europe. The US does not have free healthcare like Canada and Europe. One pays every penny for every treatment ones get be it a child or adult. Additionally, medicaid is only for US resident tax payers with very low-incomes and some US resident tax payers with long-term disability whose medical insurance might not cover.
I don’t think it’s an issue of confusion. I think it’s the Nigerian mindset. Everyone wants to get something for free when they have not earned it. The Medicaid question wasn’t about the morality of accepting it, it was solely about how it would impact future visa applications. If VOs never asked, a full 100% of the sanctimonious folks here would absolutely have no problems having their babies for free, and “humbling bragging” about how badass they are - or how "god" must have "favored" them. It’s who we are. I’m nigerian, been there too.
