There's no law against carrying food. Only liquids.
I almost always carry my food (although I just buy at the airport and take through security... depending on where I buy from).
There is no law against carrying food on a flight. I don't think you can bring food from home and it will be allowed through security. You can buy food after security and board your flight though. That's the difference.

Welcome to America. Jejeje tell them to return the blood. $4k is almost a million. Did they find gold instead of iron inside her blood. What kind of rough play is thathuh
This is normal and is the consequence of the private insurance system of healthcare delivery that America has stubbornly (and unwisely) chosen to maintain. This is why VOs routinely mention how expensive healthcare is... they aren't just trying to not give people a visa. I went into a clinic to complain about a sore throat once, i saw the doctor for less than 5 minutes, it cost me over $300. As you said, welcome to America and yes, they found gold in her blood.

My Wife delivered our BBG last week in Brooklyn NY, she is asking for a discount on her total bill but the hospital is rather putting pressure on her to get MEDICAID for our baby and she can pay her own bill. Have anyone taken medicaid for their baby? any consequences?.

Thanks for your helpful responses as always.
First question - why do you think you are entitled to medicaid? Have you ever paid medicaid taxes? It doesn't fall from the tree you know.

Second question - you obtained a visa by claiming to the VO that you were financially capable of paying for the cost of having a baby, including any accidental costs. If you had mentioned taking Medicaid payments, you would have been summarily denied a visa. Think again.

There is always going to be a record if you take government payouts, that will count against you when you apply for your next visa... and i hope you are denied at that time. It is unfair for you to accept free government many you do not qualify for. The rest of us don't get the luxury of demanding "discounts". The number 1 cause of bankruptcy in the US is medical bills... how is it you get discounts and the rest of us don't? If YOU were in the shoes of the average American, would you be as kind?

Plain and simple, tell her to tell them that the bill they gave her for test alone is the total cost of her hospital and Dr budget, that they should give her a discount o,if they know they want to collect their money.
But alas! If that shakara nor work, just tell her to jejely negotiate a payment plan o,I nor fit shout.
There is no discount anywhere. That "discount" either gets charged back to the government or to the rest of us who see our health insurance premiums go up by an average of 30% every single year, while you get to go home and pay nothing. As i have always said, if you cannot afford having a baby in the United States, please stay back in Nigeria.

She should negotiate a payment plan and pay every cent.

Lol I mean... Yeah iPhone obviously. This is really good advice though. I definitely will go for on campus now. Then research my options to move off campus in the following year. We could meet up.....im a child of God too. We children of the most high need to be close to each other. Thanks! I'll be sure to let you know my progress.
lol no probs. For those who school around NJ/PA, i'm happy to help and advise. I was actually in jersey city today, it's 40 mins from my office so sure let me know if you need anything.

And I thought Republican-controlled states are supposed to be the “low-cost.” That is just not the case in Nashville.
The politics does not really matter. Any really large city with a high number of rich/upper middle class folks is bound to be expensive. Nashville is the Hollywood for country music. For cheaper states, i'd try Texas. Very cheap to live there!

Wow this is super helpful. Thanks! I better start reconsidering living on campus then. But then again campus living is like $5800 per annum that's roughly 2.something million naira which is a whole lot to consider lol. Does it help if I have someone I can stay with like a share a house with or something so that bills can be split.
Looks like you've done some research of your own... which is good. At $5800/annum, that boils down to $480/month. That is just rent alone and does not include gas/electric - which could be up to $100/month (or ask your landlord, some of them cover this for you but in Jersey city, i very much doubt it). Add at least $30/month for internet, water should be in your lease so you should be ok. A cell phone should run you a minimum of $60/month (you'll want the fancy iphone of course grin). So for rent and utilities alone, you're up to $670/month. For jersey city, you really should not need a car at least your first year, there is better public transportation (buses and trains, there are daily trains to NYC, lucky you!), so that saves you having to buy a car, gas (at least $100/month) and auto insurance (another ~$50/month). However, public transportation isn't that great in the less populated areas of NJ so if you want to visit those, you'll need your own car.

Bottomline, get friends to share an apartment with, that cuts down on your rent and you all share utilities. It's the most common way college kids can afford living outside campus. I always advise dorms the first year. Aside from the cost (a lot of which you won't be used to), you also need time to acclimatise to the culture - where and how to pay for stuff, best places to get groceries, American attitudes to money, living space etc. foods. You don't lose anything by taking that time to find folks that you can comfortably live with and then plan your move off campus.

If this was back in my hey days, i would have volunteered my services! grin But as a child of God now, i can only pray for you. All the best!

Okay. Anyway I'm going there. How's rent like in NJ especially for students because I don't want to stay in dorms.
NJ is a very expensive state to live in. Which is why i live in neighbouring PA 20 mins outside of central NJ. Also the school is in Jersey city, which is only separated from NYC by the Hudson. Those areas are even more expensive as New Yorkers live there and commute to NYC. I would advise that you stay in the dorms your first year. You can try living off campus in your second year once you have a better idea of the costs of living and whether you have the financial capacity to bear it. Living off campus is not as easy as you might think. Rent is all on you, food, utilities (gas, water, electric), house repair (if your landlord doesn't include this in the lease - i needed to repair a dishwasher today, it was going to cost me $175 flat rate just to take a look at it! undecided), transportation etc. Americans do not joke with bills, there is no begging... they are paid on time or you get kicked out.

Hello house,
biko help a brother as time is going, some weeks(months) ago I came here asking if I could get admission and funding in a school in the US without GRE, but I was advised to go and take the exam.

I took GRE some weeks ago, and got an aggregate score or 301 149VB 152QT and 4/6 AW.

Now I need advise on schools were I have the best chance at admission and funding for fall 2018. I am currently considering ETSU, UTEP, Troy University, and University of Purdue.

Biko, how good are these my choices, and which better choices are there? I intent to apply for MSc. Information Technology, or MSc. Computer Information Systems, with a CGPA of 3.6(BSc. Computer Science).

Thanks for your ever helping contributions. I look forward to reviewing those. Thanks again.
You're not asking for help, you're asking for babysitters. You don't seem to be able to reason on your own.

First you had to be told to take the GRE, now that you've taken it, you have no clue what to do with it. The schools you claim to be considering are those that have been mentioned here way too often. By what yardstick have you selected them? Without that knowledge, we cannot advise you on alternatives.

Much of the work needs to be done by you... ask yourself these basic questions:

1. Why am i looking to spend so much to do a masters degree in information systems? What is the ultimate goal? What is the US job market like for folks with this degree? What is the wage range?

2. How much will it cost? Am i able to afford at least $20,000 per year in tuition and expenses? If no, what are my options? Should i be seeking TA/RA opportunities or scholarships? If i need funding, then that narrows my school search considerably.

3. Are there certain schools that are favored with employers i am seeking to work with once i'm done? Which are they, should i target my application to those schools?

4. When do i wish to start? Fall, spring? Funding opportunities vary depending on when you intend to start. What year?

Get a notebook/laptop, write down your answers, work from there.

What should be the response to this questions during interview
1. What is your study plan in USA
2. Would you apply for phd after msc
1. The truth
2. The truth

If you're still confused what the truth is, then you're obviously not a genuine student and you should be prepared to be denied.

So, how did you get the money to pay for your tuition and other bills, or did $2000 cover all during your time?
I went to school for free ($64500 tuition all paid for) + $18000 living expenses/year given by the program.

All you need - a high gpa, ace your GRÉ, find top schools that are fully funded by the US government... job done.

The problem is most of you are too lazy to find these.

It’s ok to be frustrated and confused, but it is no excuse to not put in the work to pursue better opportunities. Depending on what stage you are in your degree, it might actually make more sense to finish your degree in Nigeria, using that time to research quality graduate programs you can get into for free.

In that case, how much will it cost from SAT registration to my interview, let's see if i can do this. AND for the first one year I'll be unable to work in the US, what's the Naira minimum i need in my account to have visa approved.

Sorry for the bother..
Would you also want me to sit for the SAT on your behalf? It’s your job to do the necessary research. How to register for the SAT and cost is public information on the web. When you select a school, they tell you how much the application fee is. The rest is up to you.

Hi everyone

Please I need your advice/ answer to this

I used to set a goal of becoming an engineer which led me to science class and studying in engineering in the University (With good GP)

The issue is, the more I grow, the more I realize Engineering isn't for me. Have been a lover of Business Related stuffs from childhood and have really developed interest in it.
(Business Management, Economics, and Business Administration)
These are what I love
I guess I made a childhood mistake which am finding hard to correct.

Right now, am thinking of applying to USA universities (BSC)

My WAEC combinations include Science Subjects
What do I do about this?

Thinking of going for mechanical Engineering then I speak to a carrer counselor in the US about it.

Don't even know what to do.

If you already have an engineering degree, it would not be useful to go back to do another bachelors degree in the US when you could use that money to do an MBA.

Hello.

Is it possible to obtain scholarship to a US school with my NECO result/certificate. And have my visa approved when my account is zero?

If i could earn a scholarship, i could support myself with a side work. I'm frustrated reading pharmacy here.
Short answer - No. You should consider sitting for the SAT. If you get a scholarship, then no one will care if your account is -2. Also please do not expect to "support myself with a side work". You won't be able to work at all in your first year and after that no more than 20 hours/week is allowed. You should apply only if you have enough resources to take care of yourself at least for the first year.

No offence bro. I've noticed all your comments have been extremely critical and degrading of Nigeria and Nigerians, while you hale and praise America to the skies. It seems you're also a Nigerian who was privileged to travel out and living in the USA. I wonder what makes you feel righteous and justified enough to condemn other Nigerians with degrading expressions simply because you no longer live in Nigeria with them?

While you're there praising and glorifying yourself in America and hurling insults and abuses at your fellow Nigerians back home, remember that the America you're enjoying, you did not contribute in making it what it is today. And no matter how much you claim to be American, praise America and abuse your people and country Nigeria, you are still Nigerian by blood, and so all those abuses and degrading names you're calling Nigerians also apply to you. One love
The problem with this post is that it is rife with hypocrisy. If America granted you a green card, you will be first to grab it...
