BigDickProblems: What he is trying to tell you is that, if actually you want to use a generator that is connected to the same changeover where you connected your solar generator to, you will likely cause big problem to your system and possibly, a fire hazard when you turn on your generator.
Instead, get a new changeover for your generator separately if at all you want to use a Generator in the home. I understand. Just changed from NEPA to gen. About to ON my D2. His type of setup connects generator wire directly with no outlets, so no space for the Ecoflow. My guess.

Hydronium: When your generator is running, your D2 output (the 13A plug) CANNOT be connected to the mains, otherwise, voltage from the generator will flow through the mains into your D2. This is potentially dangerous to your device and your entire household.
also, Both D2 and generator cannot output to the mains at the same time or you run the risk of a ballistic explosion in your community, your house being the firework.
Even the most careful among us may forget just once. That one time is sufficient to burn down the house. That's why it's wise to use another changeover.
I gave out my generator, so I simply adapted the changeover to fit my D2. I explained firmly to my wife. The day anyone ever brings in a generator, we must observe these rules. Well, I don't know how to explain it but I use the same changeover I use for my gen for my D2. I posted pictures for iamlammy. I didn't do another changeover. The thing is to pull it down from nepa to gen, fix bulb to it to know when grid light is back, just as I normally do, before turning on my D2 AC and switching it box to ON. Secondly, I don't know who uses generator and D2 at the same time? That's really strange to hear. I use my D2 like I did the generator. What I only added to it was the mouth for AC.

Explain this assertion... Hydronium: You need an MC4 to xt-60 connector. Then changeover (s). The exact length of cable can only be determined by you or you enlist the services of an electrician.
If you don't know how to mount the solar panel, I'd suggest you enlist the help of a specialist once and for all. Mounting the panel and fixing the changeovers are really the only 'technical' part of the work.
If you have an existing generator changeover, you can modify it for your Delta 2. If you intend to use your generator from time to time, you may need a new changeover (its possible to use the old one, but you need to observe a few rules).
If you find any of the above technical, please enlist the services of a technician. Better safe than sorry.
P. S. Below is a pix of the MC4 to Xt60 connector |

oladele239: Before April I am going to add an extra 100ah powmr lifepo4 battery to my setup. I have watched a couple of videos of how many people have used external batteries to provide longer backup power for their power stations instead of buying expensive OEM extra batteries like in the case of ecoflow.
All that's required is a battery and an external charger.
Then you charge the power station with extra battery with an oring to xt60i connector.
This is very possible and realistic.... Kindly drop the YouTube links here. Thanks. |

oladele239: @iamlammy
How long is your set up going to be That will determine the length of the extension cable you'd need.
In my case I required about 12-15 metres , I got a good bargain on Jumia ( got a powmr extension cable - 15m 10awg for 61k came with an MC4 connector already fixed in ). No cheaper bargain for that length even on Temu or AliExpress.
Then you need to get an xt60 to mc4 connector ( I got a 1.5m 12 awg ) from temu for about 11k. If I had seen post earlier may be I'd have ordered 3 to fulfil temus minimum order of 30k for me. I ordered one for myself and one for a friend.
My setup is about 70% complete , just the connector I'm waiting for from temu. You can buy from a seller on Jiji if you don't have the luxury of time but I doubt if that's 12awg and the price is even like X3 of Temu.
I have advocated for a WhatsApp group for us where we can have issues of ecoflow power stations discussed first hand. No be everytime person dey come nairaland abeg. Even oyinbo pple get Facebook and WhatsApp forums for this power stations especially ecoflow.
Plus if you're ordering the panel on foauni, please don't waste time. That 555 watts is hot cake , it gets out of stock really fast. I was always on the look out to buy from them but got tired of waiting and bought an Eastman somewhere else although it was available at that same place but I preferred Eastman. Alas they restocked the very night I bought the Eastman lol I don't agree with this assertion. There are popular Ecoflow groups already...however, I like Nairaland better because the wealth of knowledge can be contributed for all to see, posterity's sake. Anyone coming to join the Ecoholic family or other power stations can read from the beginning to the end and will have the knowledge. But for Whatsapp, you can't see previous discussions. Just like if they moved the solar thread to Whatsapp, I won't be able to enjoy the read and knowledge I gained with ease. That's it. |

seborrhic: What are you people even saying? Solar this, solar that, why can't solar advocates just tell people to get Solar without making childish and clearly false comparisons with National or state grid supply! Can your solar,no matter the inverter grade iron your clothes, power your freezer, fridge, your electric hot plate daily without sufffering "convulsions" for a week, talkless a month? Can it power your 2 or 3 ACs without breaking down,so what's this rubbish noise everytime to go for solar? Can it pump your water borehole, which many houses use, daily for a month without breakdown? Then this issue of battery. It's just like telling a car owner he would use the same battery fof his car without needing a change after 5 years at most. Any electrical, mechanical component that uses battery must have that battery changed,no matter if its lead or the modern types because all battery types usually lose efficiency at a point in time,2- 5yrs,depending on usage. Solar too is now very expensive,so its not like a common man facility you can instal with 100-500k.But with National grid, depending on the neighbourhood and level of development of an area, with 100-300k,in fees and development levy, you are already connected to your electric line power line. Solar is only good as a backup for mainly light and low duty appliances and for limited hours in the day, otherwise, every month you would be crying and when you check your expenses to fix or replace one thing or the other, you find you are spending 3x what you should pay as electricity bill. Even generator, asides the noise and need for fuelling,is far better economics wise than same power rating of solar installed. Why I get your frustrations and to each its owns...yes, it can power iron, hot plates, air fryer. It depends on the capacity of what you invest in. It can power ACs (that is why we have inverter air conditioners). No one is advocating for anything for anyone. If you can't pay the BAND A price, go fuel your stuff with either a petrol/diesel generator or use CNG generator. At least, the latter will minimise your cost. Why will it breakdown when it is what is built to last? It is like comparing apple products with Transsion. It depends on the quality you go for. Use it as prescribed by the witch doctor. E no cause fight. No, this is not true, generator is not better economic-wise. I switched because of this last year when I calculated how much I spent on fuel and I can't even use it as I like. With the present cost of fuel, it is a no-go area. I use my solar power for more than 17 hours, but I can't try it with gen and not be in serious financial wahala. I think I will have to rest here because I can see that you have not really been into solar stuff, and these statements of yours are unfounded. People use solar off-grid and have been like that for years. You may need to check the solar thread on NL and read all to get a better picture. WARNING: When you taste it, you won't want to go back. It is addictive like a wet p**sy |

GigFc: Please leave this solar talk, I know an office that invested heavily in solar and it was largely unreliable for them, even tho they stay in a high irradiation area. We shouldn't be running away from the problem, but confronting it.
Will industries also run on solar? How can people be turning off light, fridge and ac because one greedy investor has bribed nerc to keep hiking tariff unnecessarily? So what will heavy duty industries now do? Is that not economic sabotage?
There's a reason why serious nations don't leave their critical infrastructure like energy, defence, etc in the hands of capitalist. You will kill your country. Well, tarrif should stabilise; however, truth be told, there is no where the cost of electricity is cheap in the world. I am not talking of the direct consumers (that is, us). I am talking of investing in energy generation and distribution. It involves heavy capital. Until those idiats start investing billions of dollars in it rather than funding useless wars, then it will remain like that for a long time. Nikola Tesla envisioned a world where electricity is free, but do they made it happen? Human greed knows no bound. To know that energy too is capital intensive is putting up a solar installation...now imagine it on a large scale, because these things are built to last, not with inferior materials. Now, I am talking of thermal or hydro plants. So, the investor will want to recoup the money. These guys are not Father Christmas but sharks. Now you will understand when people for obodo oyinbo go shout on you when you turn heater or anything like that because of the bills. You go think say wetin dey there sef...now you know. Someone once said on X or so years back that Nigerians cannot afford 24/7 electricity supply if government decides to provide it. Now, it appears na true with all these Band A wailings. As for the office, I can't speak for them or what they do. If they use quality products and know what they are doing, it will work for them but if they just rely on giving out the contracts without personal research and some knowledge about it, dem go use dem chop wella. If research labs in universities in this country could use solara nd it works for them, why not the office. Of course, industries, because for me, the breakthrough in solar technology is not here yet. We are still like the computer generation where 2MB storage is like big shelf in the 60s... |

As for the June /July deep raining season, you may have a point, but then let's tell ourselves the truth also when you said 4 days of consistent rain. Fine, but is it not the time when discos too often do anyhow...poles or some faults happen often due to storm, etc. 3 days, light no go dey. Then people will say dem dey dry wire (I no hear that one before).
Anyway, they both have their pros and cons, especially in a country like Nigeria or the US areas that are prone to hurricanes and tsunamis. |
Politics › Re: Abapower Increases Tariff: Band A MD2 is 241 per kWh, B And E Non MD is 145 by twosquare(m): 12:30pm On Jan 06, 2025 |
Zionmdde: Alright your 1st paragraph might be correct. But the second paragraph can only be believed by someone who doesn't use solar
I use solar, and I know that during the wet season, your solar cannot comfortably take you non stop for 3days. And please don't mention the capacity of inverter, most people install based on their required capacity. So if I install like 2 5kvA, I mean it cannot take my intended load for 2 days non stop
So solar is good, but solar is mostly a back up to power supply I talk of daily use. On the second note, who uses power non-stop for 3 days? Maybe some do. Even for grid power, I don't use it non-stop for 2 days even when it's available. Your assertion connotes round-the-clock. I know I use my solar 16 hours with juice still left before I switch it off to go and sleep. It can be a backup power supply as well as off-grid power supply. It's your choice. |

Zionmdde: If they agreed with you then, by now they will need to change battery
Solar can never be cheaper than steady power supply from discos, not to talk of stability. November to February can be good for solar users, what of the rest of the year? LifePo4 batteries last 3000 cycles or 5000, depending on the product, which is 8 years and 10 respectively. So, your assertion that those guys will need to change battery by now is wrong. Except they went for lead acid. That was 3 years ago and they still have like 5 years left. As for the time of the year, it depends on your setup. In fact, wet season is better due to the quality of sunlight and sky clarity than harmattan which is dusty and hazy in the sky and it hinders solar output max. |

Amd how effective is it during the day if you’re running load of at least 400w while charging and using? Will the powerstation get charged to 100% by evening? Power station should be full by mid day, depending on the weather. As sunlight and clear day increases, charging time reduces. Yes, you need the solar panel, mc4 connectors, and wire to connect it to the household main like you do with your generator. Mc4 connectors are also available on Jumia but I used Temu because of cheaper price and different length sizes available. Panel was ordered from Fouani store. That's it. |

iamlammy: Okay. Is it just the jinko 555w solar panel and the mc4 connector from temu I need for the setup to work? Amd how effective is it during the day if you’re running load of at least 400w while charging and using? Will the powerstation get charged to 100% by evening? Well, I will advise you to allow the battery to hit 100% before using it on a 400-watt consistent load. By 8 am, it is already receiving solar power, and input increases with time. Now, let's assume the input is 350 watts (peak) based on this harmattan weather, so minus the 400 watts, and that gives us 50 watts that will run on your battery. Note that power input often drops to 250+ as the sun goes down gradually at sunset. Anyway, your battery will likely be stuck at 97% in the day, and gradually down. Around this time, I run two fans, one laptop, two phones, TV (32 inches) + decoder, router, and freezer. When input drops below hundred watts in the evening, I switch off my freezer. If you run 400 watts on battery power only, that will give you like close to 3 hours of light alone. From 5 pm to 7 pm, and you're out. That's why if the battery is not full and you're using it on total load, the battery will be stuck at that time percentage, and you will have little battery left for night. That's it. I hope it's clear. |
