The title of the report sensationalizes the body, however that should not take away the contents which seems a little bit academic even if it has its faults. The content truly deals with a lot of various economic and geologic factors in fossil fuel especially oil. First of all peak oil means that at a certain point in time oil production will start a downward sloping curve in terms of supply and easy oil will be harder to find or oil production cost will rise. In terms of Nigeria this report may be true that NIgeria will peak in ten or twenty years because we have little new discoveries in the offshore and most of the discoveries there will cost higher to produce. An example, onshore discoveries of about 500 million barrels right now will cost about $500m to produce, in shallow waters about $1b and offshore about at a range of 150,000 barrels per day about $3-4b. The report as it concerns Nigeria is that the easy oil in onshore areas and shallow water will soon peak and also easily accessible oil is harder to find leaving discoveries for oil in further depths of water offshore or in the case of brazil further deeper in the water. This new discoveries are actually harder to produce and from an the economic value can only be supported at a certain price threshold higher than $40. SO even if you produce this new harder to find and produce oil discoveries the economic impact will be huge, to Nigeria it means less money for the federal government (which will control the offshore waters) and to the world it means higher oil prices most likely. |
Hello Mercy2002, I think the issue of schedule is well brought up, I assume what they have now is the magazine but they can also have a tv guide. I plan to bring this to their notice whenever I can see any of them. Also will bring it to the notice of wasset (that Kola Abiola) magazine or Punch or guardian to publish daily tv scedules. However, I am busy and plan to dedicate only a day every two or three weeks, so hopefully, I can see someone at Hitv or wasset this Friday. |
anyone interested in an Hitv consumer complaints action group? I have a small grouse with the company but also want to work with them on how to be more committed to the demands of the subscriber. If interested please state honestly your feelings, complaints about hitv. Also if possible state clearly the ownership of hitv, even possible silent partners. My email address is alexseems@yahoo.com |
Beaf, I think R& D is still important for improving on existing technology which constitutes the bulk of modern day invention ca post 1950 when electricity, the telephones and how to process oil and other solid minerals had been discovered. Also, research and development may stimulate young minds which I think consitute the bulk of ancient and modern inventions. Example are the google guys who worked with Stanford and also the Yahoo gues also from Stanford. On a general note, the issue of invention can also be seen from a youthful standpoint where minds are still open to new experiments, ideas or thoughts, and not rigid thoughts. Many great ideas and inventions are generated by people in their twenties and early thirties. The mindset of the youths in the country and how the older scientists can motivate their minds is also important. I think the situation whereby we have money hungry parents andgraduates (i.e everyone chasing after oil and gas or banking jobs) may be a problem in the long term. Most NIgerian innnovations and discoveries from the sector have been made and done by foreign technology a sore point in NNPC history and also in the banking sector it is all about marketing and generating funds. |
I have heard of rising tension at Ado now and even reports of gun shots, any confirmation? |
Economic times should dictate a change in perception and behavour Even though I think the headline has some merits. The story of unspent funds may actually be more uninteresting and may mean less development and rosy economic times for Nigerians in the future. Yes, civil servants and ministers are known for moving out funds towards the end of the year but at the same time there are legitimate contractors who have finished assignments with the government and yet not paid. The ministry of works one of the most corrupt agencies I know of personally owes many legitimate contractors money yet still returned over 50% of its capital expenditures. The story in some ministries like works also borders corruption. They owe many firms money because they did not approve their 10% kickback so they initiate bureaucratic guidelines to stifle payment while the allies of the minister and directors get their money on time. Most of the people who are owned returned money are more likely people who are not connected to powerful people. Secondly, prior to 2007 when Yar'Adua was nominated by PDP, he was known to have close to 7 billion in reserve funds for Katsina State prior to debt he inherited but he was also considered austere and initiated no meaningful development in the state only one major project, I think related to agric or some cash crop was initiated for the development of the state's economic potential. Not completing capital projects(contractors won't work until they are paid their installments) means less development in infrastructure for the country. I think it is a negative, eliminate graft(paddy paddy) contractors and implement the budget on economically reasonable ways to develop the country. Now that the global economic woes may be spreading, it is usually the time government action is needed for stabilizing the economy. |

Can someone with experience or knowledge divulge info on the requirements of the L visa or visitors visa to China. I am interested in visiting China for tours and business. But on the business side, the firm sare reluctant to issue a letter of invitation and I actually have commitments in Nigeria towards the end of November. I want to go to China mid November and be back in a few days. |
To NigeriaOne. I have always suspected you may have attended ife's space technology program for your satellite info but I am not 100% sure. On the accelerator, you do have good but old info, yes Ife likely has an inactive one bought years ago that did not work but the commissioned one is a new one and I think much smaller, it is used largely for research and application purposes. Nuclear science/application is much complicated and can me merged with other fields including geo-science, medicine, energy and chemistry, not sure about soil science. |
Try this IITA link http://www.cassavabiz.org/ You can also visit IITA for consultancy but they will probably charge you. |

Anybody know the price of laminated gypsum plasterboard with grills and not grills. Also the measurement be it a square meter or 2 by 2. |
Thanks thirdeye. I read your article and very well written. It is through artisans that I am interested in the building materials market. However, the suspended ceiling market is too confusing and I have to wade through many measures trying to figure out that POP ceiling means plater of paris ceiling, I mean who would have taught pop can also be used for ceilings. However, are you aware of what they call DANO suspended ceiling? I have no idea. I am trying to purchase it but due to logistics, it is quite hard. ( I am currently away from Nigeria). If you know have further advice on the market feel free to mention it. |
Not sure whether this is the right place but I need advice on building materials. I am interested in sliding doors and suspended ceilings. Any advice on both types of products that are selling would be helpful. |

Hello I am interested in good secondary school science books used in Nigeria or could be used as an alternative to books used in Nigeria(perspective from those abroad). The books are meant to be purchased in America and sent to a small library in Nigeria but I want books that would be useful for those students in science classes. Thanks in advance. |
