kind of a confused fella. He assumes because he is Christian there will not be a bias against him based on his name. I will be shocked if he can get 25% of the primry vote. |
A lot of the information are from journalists but I do not know the evidence. Most journalists actually have an idea about what is going on in the area they cover, Aso rock, government house, industry. But if it is a major political issue, the newspaper patrons or owners shy away from publishing controversial stuff which are them passed or maybe shopped to saharareporters. I suspect others are from political or business competitors of indivduals covered |
It is kind of known in the tabloids that he has a hosue there, I think one or two of his children live there. But the name Stella in the document is funny. |
EYIMICHAEL:I think it depends on what is called rural roads. What kind of rural roads, it is between two rural towns or inside the rural towns. If it is linking various rural towns, Ondo state roads are okay. historically speaking, it is a contribution of past politics (basically big politicians in each town lobby to include road work linking nearest urban centers to their town in teh budget). But if it is within/inside rural towns, it is an eyesore. I am from a small town and the link roads in the town/rural area is known existent. |
mikki123:Maybe but if you actually understand Ondo State politics, there is not APC, PDP or Labour in terms of ideology, people and mostly likely performance. They are flluid concepts, the sad thing is that Ondo state have to vote for the party colour which makes not sense because they are just voting blindly. I always joke that Ondo state is governed by the politicans association of Ijapo, Oba Ile and Alagbaka estates. Those in the beginning of PDP and built it are actually now in APC. Oke, Kekemeke, Alaosadura while PDP now as journey men from AD to old PDP. That is why I can't vote APC or PDP. I just don't see the difference, atleast Alaosadura is keeping to hsi conscience and following Saraki around in the senate. If I ever vote in Ondo, I will never choose anybody from the known parties because at the core of it are the same characters moving here and there. |
I don't think anybody who knows history did not know that murtala wanted to lead a rebellion that will break up teh country. I think the British later came in to mediate, joined by Adetokunbo Ademola and a few others. |
GeneralShepherd:Abiola is an interesting character but no less a Nigerian man. I was young during june 12 and I did not care much about Abiola but I understand his plight, I was a Yaradua fan then. Abiola was close to Murtala/OBJ and IBB at some points in his life. In 1978/79 he joined NPN, Dikko and Akinloye did not give him much face, Akinloye wanted to contest in 1987 and Dikko did not like Abiola. He left NPN and partnered with his friend to ensure the success of the 1983 coup. He was an active non combatant participate in that coup through the mobilization of his media group and the newspapers of some of his friends. In those days, in the 1983 coup and like in the 1985 coup, you will probably be reading harsh criticism of the regime before a coup, courtesy of Abiola and his media friends. I won't be surprise if that did not contribute to the reasons the military hated media criticism because they know its effect. |
bigheart2013:I won't go as far to say Nigerians are not hardworking, I think we are materialistic and lack vision. Our individual actions tend to move towards building a house, fence and gate and leaving everybody out. If everybody is for their own selfish interest, who is for Nigeria? I think you can see the impact of positive change if your non commodity products are sought in Europe/Latin America/Asia or even in Africa. But even our products are subpar and hated in Nigeria. Probably because the guy that made it is just in for the money and could not care about the comfort of the buyers. |
hyelhira:Thanks, I did not see this, I think it is just the ongoing desecration of the Nigerian mind by Nigerians themselves for their own personal biases. Those are the consensus definition of corruption agreed by most. |
onyi4edu:No he was not right, he is basically using an angle that is not supported by consensus. ICPC chairman is just trying to justify his jurisdictional power. Corrption in its purest form encompasses many things including social vices like prostitution and government stealing. However, public corruption in its purest form is the use of public resources for private gain. Check out a resonable website for public corruption. https://www.fbi.gov/about-us/investigate/corruption/public-corruption-overview. That is just the basic definition that is not worldwide. Stealing by government officials is corruption because it is use of public resources for private gain which in turns destroy the ethics and purpose of effective governance hence corrupting the governance |
I don't necessary think it has do to with religion but a mindset of a large section of the population. This mindset and thinking makes it had for these people to create positive benefits for inviduals beyond themselves. It has to be for me, mysef and my 'people', so 90% of their actions are dedicated to gainnig unequal/unjust advantage or allowing their acquaintance to gain advatange over their fellow men and women. Now many of this people are politicians, the sad fact of the issue is that the some of the politicians are not capable of elevating the status of the average man above their own status or even improving it. Because that will create equality or people wealthier than them with more power. This is even worse because a large section of the people are incapble of initiating benefits for the whole country talk less of the world. So we can't create an APPle or APP that the world or even thos in Africa will use because it is just not in our thinking, we can only create somethign we know will make us very rich but provide minimal value to others. these people are smart, they just have an inkling that their fellow human don't really care about them so they have to go to church to pray/seek for their advantage mostly unequal over others. That is why they want favor, blessing rarely for the country (exept the catholic church and a few others with prayer for NIgeria) |
The painting is good, but the monalisa is not really considered a great piece of artwork. There is a white woman, polly Alakija whose painting I like also. |
Apostlelong:I concur, he is too smart to know that the problem is deeper than this. Buying made in Nigeria Kia? what does that mean. Basically it is worth it, if more than 50% of the total value of the Kia is derived from Nigeria. By value I mean in Kia's own's book, in the total price of a made in Nigeria Kia, more than 50% of the cost is attributed to Nigeria which I doubt, that means even a made in Kia motor can still put prressure on the Naira. |
babythug:I concur, since the Banana Island issue, I have been staying off, I am not just comfortable reading from a blogger who has gone down a bit in content and I know is or her people are putting the expensive house on social media when the economy is kind of going down. NIgerians from grass (grace) to grace (grass) don't know how to handle changes in wealth. The economy is bad, even if you are making money, most people with a brain are going to be uncomfortable in this economy with you showing it in their faces unless you want to ass kissers, people want to feel equal not unequal. Bella and Stella are way above her in terms of consistency or understanding their behavior, Linda is sadly coming out a little bit fake, but na naija person so we should get used to it. |
How many schools? is Anglican third or the last? Anyways, the hall looks nice but I doubt the corpers sleep in the town they prbably sleep in Aku e |
One of the highest paid which goes a long way in high profile cases. They can outsource some task to good outside lawyers and pay them a million for little work, shifting through court judgements to see precedents. |
Your local doctor straight, after three days ad no improvement go to a better doctor. It may not be a big deal or could be a big deal, i have had allergic reactions with swollen face but never down there. |
Etfash:I am one of those who do not have a problem with the concept if it is recognized and supported by the people and organized properly. If he did it on private terms fine, there are millions of charity organizations doing same in the world. The problem I have with the system is similar to a corrupt practice. First there is no real mission/goal or purpose of the project (if is has one, it will not be the govenror standing and distributing rice on the road), no institutional structure to the distribution, and their is no oversight. The money is for the commonwealth of the state, if you want to distribute rice to the people, then which people, all people, poor people? only those, Ikere or Ado, what about Aramoko or IKole or Efon. If their is a struture and oversight then I will say it is getting there. I once did volunteer work for a nonprofit who distributed stuff during Christmas, they go to the department of social service or welfare to get the list of the poorest recipients to distribute, it is part of their mission statement and they are guided by their mission statement and that is a private concern not even a government one. In the U.S., they use income statements to know the poorest to give support(medicaid, food stamp), because the program as a real mission and goal. And therelies the critical part, they need good institutions before they can effectively carry out this kind of policies, they need a sound legislature as oversight, and they need data about the economic situation in the state to properly understand which village, town or city is the poorest, the reason they are poor and what can be done. I think creating a basic foundation is worth more than this current system is better, it will lead to good governance and reduce governmental abuse of resources. |
First of all, I don't blame you, because the real issue is that Nigeria is dysfunctional and hence people want to make and support this law. There are laws against defamation. My dad took a colleague to court on charges of defamation in the 80s. If you genuinely feel that your reputaion has been tarnished then go to court. The problem is that Nigeria is tarnished including the police and judiciary and that makes the accused not ready to take an alleged defamation to court because he himself may not want more details to come out becuase in a real legal system you have to give the defendant information that can incriminate you if you a politician. Yes I believe Nigeria talk trash including vocal support of useless laws and politicians (which I think is more worrisome)but it is their right to tarnish the country. The funny thing about this law is that the history of Nigeria is based on trash talking from Macaulay to Azikiwe, Bello and Awolowo but yet then their medium which was the press was vibrant. Daily times, West African Pilot and even Tribune had real analysis much better than we have now and that was in the 50s. I know because I have been to library of congress for research. and yet the media which publishes real news is actually quite like Nigeria itself tarnish, corrupted and the most worrisome lacks real information and analysis of modern day issues. I will give you an example, there is a 20 page serial on Adaka Boro in 1970 if you do proper research but when I was looking for info on Orkar (1990), some outlets only had columns on him and even a book published on Orkar did not have real info on his background. so this law does not promote any intelligent reporting. |
frenchpharaoh1:I don't think he has any choice than to claim akassa as his hometown. It is well documented that is father's mother (Bruce Grandmother) is from Akassa while the paternal side is scottish or so. He is NIgerian and the way Southern Nigeria works, he has to trace his roots to contest. The only option is to branch to Yaba where is father was fairly popular and lived but like I said, it is the way Nigeria works. However, I do not know whether is father or he himself did anything for akassa. |
Vig86:This law does not make sense, I do not know the intention of the law because there should be laws that exist against defamation or slander in the books, they can review thoses laws and see whether it is ok. Also it makes sense to prove that the law is for the public good than for private good, both in Nigeria, a select group of inidivudals private benefit is promoted as a public good. If it is for private benefits who are those pshing the bill, it should not be the senators sponsoring the bill but individuals who are faced with that kind of situation. If it is a private bill, it is better to refer it to a civil court. I think people should not lie to tarnish imag, I have gone through that but never will I support imprisonment, apology or a public apology will suffice. I was abused once but I considerd those people to be stupid, I will prefer an apology but imprisonment does not make sense. They are trying to make it a bigger issue than defamation and it should not be. |
Hassan080196:This is one of the most ridiculous stuff I have read online this month. It is 2015 not 570. Allah or God are not misogynistic get it? If you are blinded by irrationality the end result will always lead to conflict between rationality and irrationality. Unline most of you who think like this, I actually believe God is an intelligent human being who understands that 1AD has gone, 570 has gone, there are better things he can do for us/universe and still do in the future than get stuck at a one point in time. In my own opinion being stuck in a particular time jsut defeats the whole point of an all powerful God. |
chukwudi44:I doubt she is Tinubu's candidate more like a candidate Amosun is pushing and who knows with Obj, Tinubu wanted Edun to represent Ogun but was rejected by Amosun and Obj |
humilitypays:Basically the same reason politicians steal, fraud and 419 abound, a large section of the mindset of nigerians is to do things for money even reduce some of their ideals to make it. The girls are just using whatever they have to succeed and sometimes it is their beauty. You may say they are rich but the mind set still persist, it is beholden the money, effizy and oppression |
omolami:It is a bad idea, the government spends more on recurrent budget, about 73% and probably kess that 15% on capital budgets, in addition, oil is trading lower. |
Eluwilussit:He was not hitler but his regime would have been a disaster if he continued. He did not look like he was leaving power and would do everything possible to weaken the opposition. I know Abacha has his supporters in the north, some rate him higher than abubabkar and babangida but to me, why he was a disaster was his acheivement were meagre and he was trying to force himself on the country sort of like a pariah for life. he was more goldie than lugard, his ambition was vain, selfish and filled with greed |
jimfend:Are you commenting because of your blog? |
sauceny:Let me tell you the truth there was never any $16 billion scam, maybe $2.5 billion. Yaradua did a hatchet job to stop OBJ's programme, and guess what, the shocker is part of the complaints was the NIPP was Igbo dominated (go figure, It was controlled by Uba). The company I worked for did jobs with PHCN, I doubt Makoju the former CEO saw $10m talk less of $100m. Corruption may have entered into NIPP but that came later and $2.5 billion was spent. The capital expenditure on power was less than $6, Yardua added recurrent expediture and salary to come up with $16b which does not make sense because you pay salary in naira. I don't care about OBj, but those are the facts. Another issue is militancy and gas, Nigeria has omotosho, papalanto and geregu power plants they spent around $1.2b, the structure is there but no gas to feed the plant. Nigeria actually may have more capacity if there is adequate gas arrangement. What they should do is solve militancy and create a gas masterplan, all this investigation will never lead to a solution. |
mrmetoo1:I think it is well known he did drugs, supposedly he sobbered up in Ghana in the 1990s. However, I think there was a group, FFK, Akin Osuntokun and I believe Abati were close, Osuntokun and FFK were able to enter OBJ's circle, (OBJ probably knew his history). Someone introduced the group to OBJ. |
otunsman:From my experience in the South West, the T.V media journalist are sometimes paid by the government to cover their activities, so that medium is compromised. I do not know much about the print journalist though, but I won't be surprise is they get brown envelopes. Why would someone write about corruption when he enters a commsioner's office and is given 1 million naira cash to go aroind and cover the state. What Wada just needs to do is know the journalist assigned to cover is state and send is assocaites to give them regular salary. |
funlord:Was that 70s stuff true? anyways he was a nice dude, lovedhis community very much, and kind of the typical Nigerian businessman/hustler. I think the business aspect kind of impacted negatively on his legacy especially his relationships with governments and basically collecting money and doing shoddy jobs. |
saxywale:Yes she was a VP too, she was in the VP level as corporate secretary |
?
NDLEA would be pleased with this development!
