Yet another 100,000 homes deal signed.Cement makers are going to make a kill

President Uhuru Kenyatta's administration has yet again inked a multibillion-shilling housing deal that will see the construction of 100,000 homes for the poor.

This is the second housing deal to be secured by the government in a week, having received another support from a Singaporean consortium.

The deal between the State department for Housing, United Nations Office for Projects Service (Unops) and Sustainable Housing Solutions (SHS) was signed during the ongoing UN Habitat Assembly in Gigiri.

During the deal signing, President Kenyatta said the project is a major boost to the Affordable Housing Programme (AHP), which seeks to address the critical need for proper shelter across the country.

He noted that although the ambitious project is both labour and capital-intensive, it is an economic stimulus that will see a reduction in the high unemployment and poverty levels in the country.

"We are delighted to get this project under way as it will greatly contribute to unlocking the massive benefits to the economy that the AHP will have," he said.

He added: "The provision of clean, safe and sustainable housing will not only enable us to restore our people's dignity and secure their stake in their nation, but will also lead to transformative, systemic changes to the country's economic landscape."

Unops Executive Director Grete Faremo said the construction of the landmark large-scale affordable housing project is set to begin in earnest, with show homes now in development in Nairobi.

"We are committed to supporting the government in its sustainable development aimed at providing the much-needed housing across the country. We will do everything we can to ensure this project succeeds," said Mr Faremo.

The signing of the agreement follows a Memorandum of Understanding between the government and Unops in September 2018 in New York, after the operational arm of the UN accepted an invitation to construct at least 100,000 green and energy-efficient units in the country.

PARTNERSHIP

Dr Allan Zimbler, chairman of SHS, said the partnership is another step in attempting to build a better world by addressing the need for affordable and sustainable housing in Kenya.

"We are proud to be working with Unops and the Kenyan government in our innovative technologies and global partnerships to provide 100,000 houses for Kenyan citizens, while at the same time offering significant employment opportunities," he said.

As part of the agreement, the Kenyan government will play a facilitative role by committing to provide bulk off-site infrastructure including roads, water and sewer systems to the site.

It will also ensure the availability of sufficient land on which Unops and SHS will put up affordable houses in line with the Development Framework Guidelines, committing at the same time to fast-track the statutory approval process and the requirements stipulated by the partners.

Transport and Infrastructure Housing Cabinet Secretary James Macharia said the project is expected to create 3,000 jobs for local workers.

"We will work to ensure that the project, which will be done on private land and with private capital, is successfully delivered so that we can begin to change the landscape of upcoming municipalities and unlock their capacity for attracting investment that will ultimately improve our people's living standards," he said.

Safaricom worked didn't it. Brt can work as long as it's a private initiative what is government it is going nowhere that is why the one in Nigeria is going to fail massively. Look at Virgin lights railway look at South Africa. If it is private it will work
A combination of brt and metro trains will do

wow this is marvelous, i have never seen this side of Lagos before, especially that oshodi transport interchange, fire!bro. let me tell you, recently one of our media house was in Lagos to benchmark on the BRT project and its successful implementation in Lagos. ours is not even started yet, because we dont even have the enabling infrastructure to support the BRT. Other than the infrastructure, there is the issue of vested interested, its killing the project even before it starts, i wish they learn from Lagos and Dar successes. KUDOS
I strongly believe brt will never work for nairobi
Maybe metro trains will do
Or combination of the two but brt a big NO for me

Everyday we're developing our cities. We're not focusing on one City like you people. Thanks to AutoReportNG cool

For those who live around Agbara, Lusada area in Ogun State, they will tell you that life can't be worse than roads in these areas. Agbara is a manufacturing hub, one of the money-spinning hub for both the federal and state government, IGR from these factories alone can confidentially fund the budget of some states in Nigeria but it's a pity that roads leading to their factories are more of a death trap.

People living at Agbara have cried out to the governor of Ogun State to repair the road in this area as trailers, tankers and other private vehicles ply these road daily, these road has been neglected for years with promises from both the state and federal to do something. It got to a stage that residents have to embark on a peaceful protest last year but this does not move any of the state agencies. At a point when the people are beginning to accept their fate, the state government seem to remember them and has begun a reconstruction work on the Agbara-Lusada Road.

In a press release written by Mr. Ajayi Olatubosun, who is the Community Liaison Officer for Igbesa, he explained that the project was reconstructed by the Guangdong Community within the Free Trade Zone as part of their( 1)corporate social responsibility to the community and (2)as a PPP agreement on Built Operate and transfer(BOT) under the approval of the State Government having a bilateral " Memorandum of Understandings " ( MoU).

Read his statement below...

Dear Fellow Citizens / Residents.

I am desirous in extending and expressing my delight thereby sending forth my APPRECIATION for your cooperation and support ever exhibited since the " Reconstruction ' road project in place along Igbesa - Oba Adesola Mkt.(Lusada)road.

Our undaunted and unflinching love ever accorded the Client, Contractors and other Consultants on the site has yielded a positive effects which tremendously facilitated the good work ever recorded and experience at the site.

However, it is of high note to explain emphatically that the ongoing TEN(10)kilometres road project is a typical Reconstruction Project embarked upon and financially sponsored by the Guangdong Community within the Free Trade Zone as part of their( 1)corporate social responsibility to the community and (2)as a PPP agreement on Built Operate and transfer(BOT) under the approval of the State Government having a bilateral " Memorandum of Understandings " ( MoU).

Besides, the efforts on place has been proved beyond every reasonable doubt that its a thorough construction against a purported peddling damaging rumour of undergoing Rehabilitation.

Its also carry on simultaneously with the sides drainage for easy passages of waters and downpours.

Technical. professionally and couples with Consultancy initiatives, the ongoing feeder road is being planned , designed, manned monitored and heavily supervised by Construction Experts spanning from Civil Engineers, Quantity Surveyors, Land Surveyors, Architects, to mention a few.

The level of work ever put into place had guaranteed the road construction beyond a mere Rehabilitation.

It has been affirmed, a thorough Reconstruction that had its " Insitu- Density " test deeper and perfectly certified beyond Rehabilitation.

Here attached are appendix photographs of the extent of work in progress for our perusal.

Thanking you all for your understanding as We Pray for the completion of the project soon.

AutoReportNG is a bit confused as we can't say if the Chinese company will embark on the total reconstruction of the Igbesa, Atan, and Lusada road or its just a portion of the Lusada axis.

No matter the case, trust us to always keep you posted. See more of the images below...
I was talking about slum upgrading projects
