chemashie: may be you can send a letter by post to him and get someone to drop it on his table. Was the letter addressed to him or academic affairs?
The young man went to AAUA and (I assume) spoke with the registrar. The letter was addressed to the Registrar directly. Any help?

Shine1177: I just got my admission letter for MTECH in the mail while waiting for SAQA, seems SAQA is not necessary at DUT. I should be in the republic by January 2015.
Congrats pal. Please include your SAQA with your application documents for visa. Sometimes it's necessary, other times, it's not. But you don't know who will attend to you.

chemashie: Is it possible to even get a job in SA from Nigeria when you don't have the required skills? It is better to acquire certificate in SA through MSc, PhD or other relevant skills and use it to source for jobs in SA than to apply directly with Nigerian certificates. I don't know if there is any other sure ways of coming here than the study permit; people should shine more light on this so that others will learn from it. I have limited knowledge of these jobs eish may be because I'm far away from happening towns.
Right on point boss. Now you're going eish. #ProudlySouthAfrican. LOL.

chemashie: Go and check all the NRF/DST scholarships very well and you will see what I'm saying. We have the full lists in my lab and only the Rhodes Prestigious scholarship is made available to nonSA students. Besides, most of these scholarships are done through your Universities and you can't benefit from them single handedly. The first question they always ask us at the PG Funding of my school is "Are you South African?". Even the so called NRF/DST DAAD in-country was specifically meant for SA students. I don't have problem with all of them because my supervisor who is a DST/NRF Chair made them available to us depending on area of research you are working on.
LOL chairman. Something must be up in Rhodes cos at least four people I know got the NRF scholarship. Two Nigerians one from Zim and one from Ghana. These are the ones I know. There were loads of Nigerians on the list last year and other foreigners. My university still sent a mail about the scholarship to all foreigners two days ago. I think your school is just being pure ethnocentric.

All the best.

chemashie: Did you finish from AAUA? The HESA application has been with them close to 2 months now without any response coming from them.
No, I didn't finish from AAUA. However, the person I was applying for finished from there.

Call them and ask for what exactly is delaying your application. Hopefully, they will inform you what needs to be done.

Cheers and all the best.

Did you call Home Affairs? What did they say?

chemashie: Things are changing now in SA, it seems they are purposely holding on to applications in other to frustrate prospective applicants to SA universities. I submitted HESA application since 4th of July and still waiting endlessly to hear from those goons. I'm waiting for them till monday when I will send them offensive mail for holding on to the application for processing that shouldn't take more than 2 weeks.
Btw, I heard SA has suspended flights from Ebola ravaging countries, how true is this and what will happen should I/anyone decide to travel to Nigeria in December?
Not quite bro. I called SAQA last week for an application. Apparently they sent a mail to Akungba's registrar and are still awaiting reply. Some delays are caused from Nigeria.

But I also get you though since they can just confirm WAEC online. I may not be able to comment on the HESA thingy.

chemashie: Nigerians have made meaningful contributions in terms of quality and novel researches than any other African countries wonder why we are excluded from many NRF/DST scholarships/bursaries. There is African Laser Centre scholarship/bursary ongoing right now. It is meant for those that are in Physics/Physical chemistry fields and make use of Laser radiation in their research works. The scholarship is open to all African nationals studying for MSc/PhD in South African Universities.
Apologies sir. Just to clarify some minor mistakes. SKA is the one not open to us. NRF/DST is open to us. If you qualify, kindly apply. If you are on 2nd year masters, don't bother.

Cheers.

harlyon: . How do I show proof of whr I will b staying if asked? Since I am not staying in an hotel.I will be staying with a friend over there
Let the person write a letter stating that you will be staying with him/her. Let the person state his passport number in the letter. You should be fine that way. The person's phone number on the letter may/may not help you. It depends on who attends to you at the port of entry.

ugsams: Please i need matured advice and candid opinion here.

I met this lady who is a xhosa mixed with sotho, we have really developed strong feeling for each other. We have at several occasions considered the option of getting married.

I don't live in South Africa, my immediate plan doesn't include living there and even if I will have to, it will be living there for a short period of time which is likely going to be few weeks or months of several visits just to enable us know each other over time. I would've loved to make her be the one to visit me instead but after we both analyzed the situation of things, we decided that i should be the one to visit because she is a single mother and works in the South Africa Police Service, so it won't really be convenient for her and i am the one who has the chance to do that now.

We have talked about paying her Lobolo and marriage but then there is also the the need for us to also to spend some time to see how compatible we are. Although, we spend a lot of time online I still think it its not enough.

My questions are:
What type of visa will be the most appropriate visa for me to apply for this visit?

What will be the likely requirements?

For someone who doesn't live in South Africa, what's the position of the law on getting married to a South African citizen?

What will be the process of getting married and the required documentation?

What are the benefits of marrying a South African?

***Note: I am not particularly in a hurry about getting Residence Permit as I am already processing my travel documents to another country. I am doing this because I want to start a family with this wonderful lady. I will also appreciate general advice that will be very important in my decision making or guide my procedures. Please I will need everyones advice
Love is a beautiful thing so I'm happy for you.

What type of visa? Visiting will do for now. That will give you 30 days without problems. It is also likely you can get more than that. You can get to know her better with that type of visa.

Starting a family . Gonna be hard for now since she wouldn't likely leave her job immediately (I'm assuming) and you can't get papers for permanent stay in SA yet.

Finally, someone was telling me that to marry a Southy lady now, she must visit your own country of origin before the marriage. I wouldn't know how true that is put believe me, it's possible it is true.

Cheers.

mrking3: Hello guys please I need your candid advice! I have a good friend a coursemate that have been in SA for like two years now. So he promised to help me come over to SA with hope he'll assist me get a work permit once I arrive. So last week he asked how much do I have so he can assist me get SA visa. I told him I aint prepeared now! So after much, I told him I only have 30k at the moment, of which he said he would balance it up with 20k making 50K which is the required money to get the documents and all that by His Agent. So he asked me to scan my Medical certificate, passport photo, Bio data and certificate of Origin and send it to him so he can send it to his Agent. He actually told me that his Agent would have to get Six month bank statement for me, employment letter and all that. So he said after this step, the next would be to get my passport for visa application. He also said he will assist me with BTA so all I need do is just to pay for air ticket. Meanwhile, he works with a car maitenance company in SA and have sent me his Pics over there! And calls me with his SA line. So I honestly want to verify if this guy is real coz its difficult to come accross some nice guys this days! His offer of assistance to me is just too good to be real. So please would want experience travellers to look into this scenerior and make there observation before I take further step! Thanks!
justwise: Your friend is deceiving you, you will probably get banned by SA embassy for forgery
mrking3: sir are you saying he wanna scam me? Or is it that I didn't get him clearly? Coz I don't think he would wanna scam me .... All the way from SA? Between he knows I'm not even bouyant to siphon money from me! He wanna help me via agent! Don't think I'll appear before embassy staff ..
It is not possible. Your friend MAY or MAY NOT plan to scam you but one thing is sure - you will waste your money. That thing used to be possible, but not anymore. Keep your money to buy gaari for your Eba and enjoy your food cos once you start, you'll end up spending more than 50k at least b4 you decide it's over.

Cheers.

yinksob002: Good day All,
Can a SAQA NQF level 7 be accepted for masters directly even though the applicant has a CGPA of 3.1 and work experience of over six years. I understand most schools in SA take decisions based on the outcome of SAQA but i don't know how true it is. Anyone currently studying at masters level in SA should kindly advise.

Thank you.
Depends on the university. While most
universities require saqa, a few don't. For Masters, you need an NQF of 7 on the new scale and 6 for honours. However, saqa in itself does not guarantee admission. For example, my university will not accept you if you don't have a CGPA of 3.5 while WITS will accept you with 3.0

So in the end, it depends on which university.

Just to check, is your SAQA score of 7 on the new scale or the old one?
