samtol4:That's so cool. But the thing for me is, I am sure I will need that money when I get back home and may only spend it here. I can rough it and still survive here without the money. Hence, my reasons for not craving to collect it yet. |
manikky:Well, I am still here in SA so I don't know how they will react when it's time to collect my money. I will know how to approach it when I get to that stage and I am not given. I doubt they will pay by proxy. I have not heard of anyone that tried it though, so, it may be possible. Who knows. |
abnice2004:Accomodation for academics or for visitor's permit? For academics, you need a long term commitment, say one month at least. For visitors, that's the easiest. Try using safarinow.com to search for accomodations close to the area you want and make a booking. Pay something and then you can use the mail they send as confirmation. Cheers. |
ifemiaji:I am not in UKZN. Hopefully, Sam and others can help. samtol4:Sam, if one does not get a supervisor, does that mean they will allocate any staff member in that field to the person or how does it go over here. I know here, it's better to know who you want to work with (even though it's Masters by research) and then send your application through to the person, including the supporting documentation. |
suxes2005:Sorry, I'm pressed for time at the moment so I won't be able to give you the details of each step. I'll simply tell you the main points. * Get the medical report form get it completed at the appropriate place. * Get a yellow fever vaccination card. * Get a police clearance certificate. * Get a medical aid certificate that works in SA. * Get an airline reservation and attach it. * Get a letter from someone indicating your accommodation is sorted (your international office may issue it). * Go and get the application form and fill it. * Pay the visa fees and apply. *If applying in Abuja, include your SAQA. In case I forget anything, the others will add it please. You can also get clarification on all of the points above. |
yansky:I have answered this before. Check these links. Airline's book-on-hold & medical report and also Book-on-hold |
Aboderinkay:Comp Care should not be rejected. They are recongized, even by the University. I guess your only option will be momentum then. Use the Ingwe option. Cheers. |
goryorhal:If you are using hotel reservation, it is better to make some payments as commitments. That way, you no problems with immigration cos they call hotels some of the time. |
Donxavier:What I thought I saw in your initial reply was CONVERT. I didn't realise it was EXTEND until I saw Samtol's reply. Some clauses in the immigration law make it possible under certain circumstances. But like Sam said, the procedures are cumbersome. Cheers. |
Donxavier:True. |
preshuzpearl: preshuzpearl:You are asking for help. No need to be rude. Sorry if I also sound rude here. #Truth yinkaabeegs:I will tend to disagree with yinkabbegs a little. He is right in a way. However, even though it is not a prerequisite, it is better to get a flight itinerary (unpaid) and include the details in the space provided on the form (check the attached image). That way, they can't deny you and give that as the reason. Cheers.
|
yansky:Last information we heard, it was not a requirement. However, if there is anyone that has gone there recently and they required it, kindly advise the entire house. Cheers. |
preshuzpearl:Unless they have started taking fingerprints in Nigeria, yes, someone can submit for you. But if they have started taking prints, no way. BTW, why not submit your thing yourself? At most, get that person who would submit for you to accompany you. That way, no shaking. |
drealsheggs:The real answer is NO, you may not change your status in SA anymore. Stay back at home and get your study visa bro. That way, you are sure of what you are getting. Cheers. |
UPDATE on the repatriation thingy. Please, everybody on study visa should take note. It also applies to those whose visas are yet to expire. It is a Q & A page on the Home Affairs website. Thanks for the link Oladayo. 9. Are travellers with valid permits with expiry date beyond 28 February 2015 going to forfeit their deposits? No, they will claim when their permits expiry or when they have changes status, or have been granted permanent residence status. 10. The DHA has, inadvertently ( or deliberately?) put legal immigrants in a catch 22 situation where they lose if they do, and lose if they do not collect their deposits. It seems strange that immigrant students should lose substantial fees due to an amendment made after they already obtained their permits - Is this not a retraction of their original permits? No student will forfeit his or her repatriation deposit if his or her permit is still valid and they will only claim when their permits expire at the end of their studies. Enquiries George Gorekwang Tel : 012 406 2668 Email: repatriation.refunds@dha.gov.za Source:http://www.dha.gov.za/index.php/immigration-services/repatriation-refunds So, no shakings my brothers and sisters. Let's complete our studies whenever we do, and go get our monies at home. I'll print the page out for record purposes though. |
yansky:No, you don't need VFS. It's the embassy. Unless things have changed and I didn't know about it. |
yansky:VFS is a visa application centre that receives application on behalf of the SA embassy from citizens for the purpose of short term visits. They will take your application to the embassy and bring the result back to you. If you are applying for visitor's permit, yes, you have to apply through VFS For visa fees, check this post https://www.nairaland.com/944102/general-south-africa-visa-enquiries/104#27732676 Cheers. |
Aboderinkay:Our friends in Lagos will confirm that. Can't say anything about that. Sorry dude. |
MojAyo:Seeing that a lot of things can happen in Naija, I wouldn't say it's not possible. But make sure you get the vaccination itself before you leave naija. That way, we make the world a safer place cos we do what we are supposed to do. You can collect the shot the night you want to travel. |
yansky: yinchar:Sometime last year, I heard Lagos was not requiring SAQA as a requirement. However, things could have changed. If you can sort your SAQA before they start accepting application, good. Otherwise, ask about the possibility of not submitting SAQA in Lagos. Abuja WILL NOT accept your application without it though |
tolma28:Hello, which application are we talking about again? Last thing I read, and understand, he had applied for VISA in SA BEFORE leaving SA. He only needs his visa pasted on his passport now. If he is yet to apply, HE SHOULD NOT APPLY IN SA since he is not there at the moment. How will they even take his thumb prints if he wants to apply in SA and he is in Naija? I smell fraud. Please explain yourself well if this is legit. |
dabigbangishere:Which centre took your application? |
dabigbangishere:Call them and ask them to tell you the status of your application. The person may ask for your passport and say it is not ready yet. Ask specifically for which stage of the processing it is at. That way, you know for sure. Cheers and all the best. |
Verostef:Documents needed to apply for visitor's permit. • Valid passport which expires in no less than 30 days after expiry of the intended date of departure from the Republic • A yellow fever vaccination certificate, where applicable. • Marriage certificate or in the case of a foreign spousal relationship, proof of official recognition thereof issued by the authorities of the foreign country of the applicant (where applicable). • Letter of introduction stating your reason for going and possibly motivation for coming back • Letter of invitation from someone legally resident in the republic or proof of accommodation • If going for a conference, proof of registration for the conference (or letter from the conference organizers • Return ticket reservation at an airline. You don’t have to pay. Just use the book-on-hold option and print • 3 months bank statement |
drealsheggs:I know this seemed answered but the answer is only partially right. The embassy do call people for interview once in a while, though it is not common. So yes, you MAY be invited for an interview. Cheers and all the best. |
drealsheggs:Check this post and the advise of the person who replied. You should adjust the letter to suit yourself. https://www.nairaland.com/944102/general-south-africa-visa-enquiries/44#15675386 The original post is here: https://www.nairaland.com/944102/general-south-africa-visa-enquiries/43#15666115 Cheers and all the best |
I was building my case and hoping to read till the end (which I just finished) before responding to the @Makanakie question. I was going to RESPECTFULLY disagree with @Manager007 and continue the conversation. However, seems that some others have aired my views. If we agreed that if you have a 3 month visa with no condition and the immigration official stamped you in for 30 days that you can ignore the immigration stamp (Peeshaun's case), the same should apply for a visa that expires on the 15th. Even if you are stamped in for 30 days (not likely), if you stay a day more than 15th, you will be declared "undesirable" for 1 year. If you spend more than 1 month after your visa expires, your "undesirable" status will be for 5 years (I think). As far as I know, @akeem0520 has given the right answer. Correct me if I'm wrong please. And for the record, @Makanakie sounds like a pomous and saucy man to me. If you need help, be polite. I'm sure @Samtol4 does not have his time yet. (*_~) Cheers and all the best. |
tolma28:I'm reading from where I stopped the last time (pg 108) and I'm not sure if you're satisfied already. I'll continue reading after this reply and if you're sorted already, good. The SA government support "the power of attorney". Immigration officials may give him a hard time but he should stand his ground. He now has a Visa and should be allowed in. He only needs to have the visa pasted on his passport. Also, before he leaves Nigeria, let him apply for transfer of visa from his expired passport to the new one. That way, immigration won't even know anything. Cheers, and all the best. |
Peeshaun:Send me a direct message. |
Peeshaun:When I came into the republic, my visa expired on 31 Dec 2014. The immigration staff stamped 12 Dec 2013. I didn't leave the republic till Sept this year. I am back in the republic again. I had no problem whatsoever. As long as your visa is valid for the duration of your stay and there is no condition on the visa (like you must not spend more than 30 days per entry), you are fine and may ignore the date the immigration official put. I know you will still go to the airport. Kindly confirm for us here after you come back from there. ![]() Cheers. |
pappy2000:If I get you right, you want to use your own money for all the processing and transportation. Your host will be responsible for feeding and accomodation. It may be a little hard but if you can manage yourself very well, it should be possible. Your major spending are: Police clearance certificate Visa processing fees Plane ticket Medical report The others are trivial fees. However, make sure the money in the account you will use is at least 400k and not 200k. You may be denied with 200k or less in the account cos they can't know your arrangement. Cheers and all the best. |
opsy4real1: opsy4real1:Let's think about it this way: Unless your dad is Dangote or a senator (let that stand for all politicians put together) or other money bags, would you stay in a hotel for the duration of 2 months while in school (never mind 12 months)?? In short, if you use this option, you will be really scrutinized because it doesn't make sense. You may rent a room in the area and use the proof of lease agreement. Alternatively, let your International office write that they will cater for your accomodation until you are able to rent your own place, |
