GidiPedia: Thank @TYTOP for your continious quick response and the info shared.

Please what about your living experiences so far?

I just followed you here on Nairaland, Can you please follow-me back
Unfortunately, I don't know how the follow thing works.

If you are in for Masters, pray you have a good supervisor. He/she may pass some coins to you. That's what I live on. Depending on your grade in final year, you may also qualify for some scholarships. I've gotten some since I got here. It's little in amount but better than back home where you pay and get nothing.

seyetee: Good morning Good people, I am glad to be here on this forum on recommendation of a friend that I will surely get the appropriate information. I work in south africa and a resident holder. my question here is this:, my brother is to come and visit me in south africa from Nigeria along with his wife so as to enable him attend to his ailing medical needs during his visit here. He is a federal worker and since been in the employment for over 10 years.. 1) what exact documents am I to support him and his wife with to assist their application? 2)must they apply together in same package or individually? 3)should I write the letter of invitation individually or write only one letter inviting the two of them? 4) the wife is a business woman but the trip is going to be sponsored by the husband , does she need to include her statement of account as well even though the husband would be the sponsor...or should I claim being their sponsor? please just give me the perfect advice so as to plan accurately for their papers toward ensuring their visas. Thank you very much
Hmmmm, I suggest you just invite them to come visit you as a family. Invite both husband and wife in your letter of invitation. Indicate that they will stay with you in your house therefore, they don't need to book accomodation in any hotel. DO NOT state anything about the health situation. Visa processing for health status is VERY different. He should get a leave in the office and attach the letter to his documentation. Let his director/boss also write a letter to indicate this. One letter of invitation is ok for both (it is Mr & Mrs). If the money in the husband's account can cater for both, they don't need two account statements. However, they need to present their marriage certificate as well. Otherwise, they can combine statements of account. It will be good if you can certify the letter before you scan to them. Also include a scanned copy of your PR on a separate page.

Read a few previous posts for other documentations you need for a visiting visa.

Cheers and all the best.

GidiPedia: Hello Everyone ...especially @TYTOP (thanks a lot for your inputs here)

Please I will like to ask current students (Graduate and Postgraduate) about your current study and living experience in South Africa now?

Also anyone Schooling in Cape town here?

@TYTOP : R16k for your next session? What school and programme are you in?

I will be very grateful for your responses.

Thanks all!
I'm doing my masters, full research in Johannesburg (not Cape Town). Postgraduate here is not as expensive as we can imagine. It's affordable.

Trust me, education here is better than back home. You can't compare both. You have access to all the resources you need. You will be amazed at the length the authorities will go to ensure you have all you need for your work. SA and Naija are worlds apart in terms of quality of education. Whether their citizens realize this is another discussion for another day.

ijapa888: What are the dormitories like?
Are they habitable?
On telephone number at destination for book on hold what should i write?
Kindly provide a URL where i can formally book a room in the dormitories.
They are habitable. A friend (a medical doctor) stays in one of such at the moment for a conference just ended. No complaints.

The telephone number is not a compulsory field. You can leave it blank.

Like I said, the dormitories depend on the city you are going to. Imagine you said you are going to Johannesburg and you make a reservation for a dormitory in Cape Town? Sounds somehow, right?

If you are going to Cape Town, you may pay for a single night with Ashanti guest house and pay for the other nights after arrival and at your convenience. Find the link here: http://ashanti.co.za/accommodation/lodge/

Cheers and all the best.

barakah: Now i'm of the opinion i have all the requirements that'll guarantee me a visa for a two week holiday in South Africa.
Since i don't want to patronize an agent and i don't want to do anything illegitimate please be my guide:-

(1) Valid International Passport
(2) Copy of passport data page
(3) Yellow card
(4) Three months payslip
(5) Six months statement of account
(6) Booking Verifiable Flight (Arik book on-hold)
(7) Introduction letter from employer

Do i really need the following:-

(1) Submission of Marriage certificate
(2) Police report
(3) Self-introduction letter with physical address and phone number.

How should i go about hotel reservation and save cost?
What more do i need to do to avoid rejection?
Needed
Letter of invitation (or letter stating what you are going to do there)
Hotel reservation (or letter from someone in the republic stating you will stay with him/her)
Self introduction letter stating your reason for going and possibly motivation for coming back

Not needed
Police report
Marriage certificate (since you are not going with your spouse)

How should you save cost as per hotels?
It depends on the city you are going to. You can save costs by getting dormitories (usually backpackers) and booking for one of their beds. Some in Cape Town are as cheap as R150. There are 8 beds in the dormitory. You may need to search well to find them though.

Cheers and all the best.

realdee: Anyone here should please enlighten me on this,i have applied for South African Visa since 11th of last month and my visa is yet to be out,i'm so worried and confused right now...I need who knows better about this whole thing
Which type of visa? Visiting or student? If it's visiting, something may be delaying your application. Go to the embassy, speak nicely to them and you may find out what is delaying it. If it is study permit, give it time. It will come out. You may have to wait for 6 weeks or more. Not strange. And Mandela's death may even delay things a little bit more.

Cheers and all the best.
TravelRe: General South Africa Visa Enquiries by TYPOP(m): 2:09pm On Dec 09, 2013
santiobaj: Good Morning guys,

I recently applied for a visa to the Republic of south Africa (28-10-2013) and to my utmost dismay I was denied. The reason given for the denial (Refusal to pay repatriation fee) is not convincing enough and I feel I was robbed. I was informed that the high commission tried reaching me over the phone and could not get through to me because i was out of town and by virtue of that I was refused. I put my email address on my application and stated I would prefer that as primary means of communication. I was not aware that I had to pay any fees and I strongly feel my case should be re-visited. How can I pay for something I was not informed about? The only form of communication I got from the embassy was the one stating that my passport was ready for collection. I am currently back in Lagos and I am considering going to the high commission In Lagos to lodge my complaints, but thought to see if anyone could shed some light first. All the numbers posted on their site are completely unreliable.

Please help if you can.
They call to get clarifications. A friend just got her visa but was called before then to get a proper yellow card. She had to go back and forth for 5 days until a proper yellow card was gotten.

Since that is the stated reason, I THINK you can apply again and write a letter of motivation stating what happened in the first instance. If the information you got about the reason is via e-mail or printed, attach it as proof of your claim. Get all documentations right, then re-apply. Now, that's what I THINK. It may not be the only way to go about it.

@Collinsfbi, what do you think?

GidiPedia: Hello house,

I have gone thru the whole thread and did not find specific answer to this. PLEASE KINDLY assist me urgently with answers

1. What specific documents does one need to submit to SAQA?

(I am applying for a masters degree programme and about sending the following original documents to som1 in SA - stamped Evidence of Degree from my University, WAEC Certificate, Stamped University Transcript.

Please kindly assist with answers @TYTOP, Consfbi et all.
Your question was about specific documents. They have been answered. You need High court certified PHOTOCOPIES of the documents you mentioned (for direct post to SAQA). If you are sending originals, you should send to individuals you know. They should TAKE (not post) it to SAQA directly and go collect for you when ready.

youngbilly1: than of you sending it to someone in SA, send it directly to SAQA via DHL. Get a coloured photocopy of your results all the one you have. Get them stamped and signed by the nigerian highcourt then you good to go for submission to Saqa. The highcourt stamp shows its authentic, its risky sending original certificates they might not return it.
It's not compulsory the photocopies are colored. Regular black and white is ok.

youngbilly1: i know this thread is a "do it yourself" thread....but there re sometimes experts needs to come in. I say this because i try to apply for undergradute into University of Johannesburg, i had only O levels, pre-degree transcript and 100l transcript i applied for uj by myself, they didn't give me admission i was ignored because O level is like a grade 10 or11, and before one can get admission he gotta have a grade 12 thats is A levels.
I met with some expert who are basically into south african study aboard "rainbow education consult", they applied for me and i got admission, and was able to apply for medical insurance. I believe educational consultancy have up hand and in the hostel i stay they give candidate from nigeria under the rainbow consult 10 slots for single room. Am now in uj studying....but if you wanna do it yourself its fine. smiley cheers and best of luck
10 slots to single room? Which res is that? Funny cos I'm also here in UJ and I also stay on the res. I never heard of that.

But I agree with you, agents have their ways more than some of us a lot of the time. However, if you are able to meet the requirements, you should be able to do it yourself. That is what we encourage on this thread. Thanks for your valuable info though.

ijapa888: (1) Do i need a medical report for a two week vacation in South Africa? NO. It's a short visit.
(2) Especially where the yellow card has already been obtained. Yellow card is important.
(3) How long can a yellow card be obtained before it expires? Limit yourself to three months.
Cheers and all the best.

shola7777777: Hello,
Can someone claim he went for conference with south africa visiting visa for another embassy application.
Why would you claim what you did not do? Really?

Usually for conferences, there are certificates of participation or stuff like that. If you don't have it, how can you claim?
TravelRe: General South Africa Visa Enquiries by TYPOP(m): 1:17pm On Dec 05, 2013
ayoaces: Hi everyone, please is a second time traveler required to pay repatriation fees?
How do you mean? Is it like you are just going to apply for Visa? If yes, did you collect your initial repatriation fees after you came back the first time? If also yes, you may/may not have to pay the repatriation fees. It will depend on the prerogative of the consular officer that attends to you. But prepare to pay.

If by second time traveller you mean you've not exhausted the visa you had in the first place, then, since you are not going to the embassy for Visa, you don't need to pay the fee.

You need both a letter from him indicating he will sponsor you and a photocopy of his ID card. His bank statement with the same surname only won't do the job.

TravelRe: General South Africa Visa Enquiries by TYPOP(m):
phone: pls house,, i want enlightment on hw i'll go abt bookin for my return nd onward ticket without makin a firm bookin
medical report. tnx
Your question is not clear. I will attempt to answer as I understand. Please be a bit clearer next time. I assume you ask two questions, 1 about airline reservation and 2 about medical report.

1. Go to Arik website, choose your return ticket date, proceed to confirm the dates, input your details and then when you get to the page on payment, choose "book on hold". It will give you a reference number and a few hours to go and pay. This is what you print and take to the embassy. You don't need to pay for it.

2. Medical report. You need to have gotten the form from the embassy. Take this to a GOVERNMENT hospital and let a doctor fill it in for you. Note that it must be stamped.

Cheers and all the best.

Yours is a good case. Not everyone will be that lucky. 6 days is a really quick one for study permit. In some cases, it may take up to 6 weeks. We should all hope for the best but then, don't say @iyiolami got his own in 6 days, so should I. If yours does not come out in 6 days, things are still in order.

Nnaaiirra: I’m currently in Cape Town and in the process of submitting an application for SAQA to enable me pursue a postgraduate program – I’m not too sure on what educational document(s) to submit, alongside other documents.

Kindly help me pick out document(s) I need submit below:

1. Certified copy of original Certificate (BSc)
2. Official Transcripts from the University attended
3. O’ Level Certificate
4. If I had failed to mention any other document, please state it here.

I’ll appreciate any other guidelines on SAQA application process. Thank you.
You are fine with all those. In fact, since it is postgraduate, you really don't need O'Level but I will still advise you include it.

If the transcript is a photocopy, make sure it is certified.

tosol: Pls,could anyone help me with adequate info. Will I be able to pay the repartriation and application fee the day I go to Lagos office with all necesarry documents for study permit and as well do the submission of the the documents on that very day?Can anyone give me an idea of the total cost of application and repartriation with bank commission if applicable?
adewumigloria has answered the cost part. While you can pay on the first day you get there, I always advise you prepare you may not finish on the first day. This saves you from any eventualities in case you need to get one or two more documents / photocopies. Why not plan to sleep over in Lagos and if you are now lucky to finish on time, you see it as an advantage instead of being left in limbo if you plan for a single day and need more than one.

Cheers and all the best.

my question now is what number to call, cos i was told some numbers are never answered. thank u everybody!
You just need to be persistent. It may seem they don't pick any of the lines, but they actually do. I may call them 50 times before they picked once. The lines and officials are always busy so just keep trying any of the lines. If you can, try both at the same times and be ready to talk on whichever they pick.

I probably may not be able to go through the school's websites and get that information for you. You may need to spend some time online going through the schools' websites. You may also contact them via e-mails to have an idea of the cost. They will definitely reply you.

Instead of a PGD, I would suggest you go for a honours program (if this is the equivalent of PGD, I didn't know). It is a year program after which you can proceed for your masters.
