Hi bros!

Please, I need some advice on this.
How does MBS work? I downloaded but they're all protected with password. Yes, I opened it after entering the password, but after saving and closing them, it still required password to open again, and the cycle continues. How does one unprotect it after saving inorder to use it for uploading as POF?

Again, since these statements drop at the end of each banking month, does it mean I'll still go to the bank to request for a paper statement of recent transactions if I want to print before the end of the month or so... (let's say like 15th, 21st...)

Thanks and God bless.

emmyoddy:
From what I've read so far, they may check and you may be lucky, they will not check.

With MBS (my bank statement) they can check easily which is what's in Vogue now instead of printing statement of account.

All the best

Hi!
It depends on the duration of your programme. You should be able to acquire enough or acceptable language skills at the end of a two-year programme.

Besides, I think one can decide (if criteria are met) to move to other provinces after PGWP. Dig online to confirm this info, but I think so.

Why not leave your family behind to join you later, so you can maximize your chances. Or part of family goes with you. Unless you have stronger home ties.

All the best!
Blessings!

PLS HELP: STUDY QUESTION ABOUT MONTREAL

Please I applied for MENG program in Uni Concordia already. I didn't know it's Quebec where French is official language.
Now I have a serious double mind. I applied to other schools as well. I intend on making this trip with family. And want PGWP and PR
after studies.

WILL I BE ABLE TO ACHIEVE MY POST-STUDY GOALS IN QUEBEC WITHOUT FRENCH LANGUAGE SKILLS ?

Thanks

Thanks so much bros.

I would also like to find out if I can still use the same GCkey account I used in 2020 to reapply this time. I had a refusal that 2020.

God bless you.

Sorry to ask. Is church marriage certificate acceptable?
Hi!
Church marriage certificate may normally not be acceptable for such administrative purposes. I advise you go to the registry and make enquiries. Explain the situation and see if there's an option. If there's a possibility of getting you both married in court, but using the date on your church marriage certificate, that'll be pretty good for you.
Just go explain and ask if the above BOLDEN is possible.

All the best!

Thanks so much for your advice, Emmyoddy.
I am just one year 8 months in my job; so no promotion yet (it comes every 3 years).
Will only Appointment Letter and Lettre of Introduction work? Can both documents serve as a home tie for job?

Thanks for your input. Blessings!

It's better to submit everything at once. A supporting document like a study leave letter may never be added or reviewed by the VO after submission. All the best.

Hi Frankrobbn1!

Please, I really need to hear your thoughts too on this. Though I already have great analysis and advice from Bullstriker, I still need to hear from you. You guys are an inspiration on this platform.
Let your thoughts also inspire me that "It will end in praise" smiley

Thanks a bunch in advance.

Hi Nairalanders!
Bulstriker,
Lekiboboe,
Frankrobbn1, and other great minds here...

Thanks for your great contributions on this platform. I had refusals in 2019 and 2020. Generally based on "Purpose of Visit" and "Personal Assets and Financial Status". I used my in-law as sponsor and he had just almost 7M in his account then, and my personal account was 2.6M. I was working in the private sector then, in administration. *Attached here is what my GCMS Notes say.

It's actually a PhD program in Québec. I have a scholarship of exemption which allows me to pay as Canadian citizens. Also have a 5kCAD Welcome Award.

Started the program online in Fall 2020 during Covid lockdown but had the refusal in October. Was encouraged by my supervisor/department to continue since everything was online.

Many things have happened since then.
Now, I'm a lecturer in a Federal University here in Nigeria. Two years done already in my PhD program with God helping me to get excellent grades. I now have additional scholarships from my university and faculty which cover all tuition and living expenses for the entire remaining part of the program (2 years). And also a job as research assistant to my supervisor upon arrival. I am married but without children yet. My wife is a lecturer in a Federal Polytechnic for almost 11 years now.

Now, my questions are these:
- Is it compulsory I add my personal statement of account to my application?
- As of now, I have just 1.5M in my account. Will that be enough if at all I should add it?
- Is my present job and family enough home ties? My wife is not traveling with me.

Please guys, scan through my case and help me with advice and suggestions to fire back successfully this time. I am resuming for summer semester (May 2023).

*** My LOA was normally not renewed, since I have already started the program and gone far in it. My registry rather gave me my up to date Attestation of Registration and Statement of Results. My faculty also gave me an Attestation of my academic progress, stating how far I've gone and my new date of resumption. I also have receipts of all the tuitions I paid during this period: Generally between 1000 and 1500k CAD, depending on number of units. *** I hope IRCC will not have issues with the LOA.

Thank you all great minds in advance for your contributions.
God bless us all!

Wow!
Thank you so much, Bulstriker, for these rich and analytical thoughts of yours. I'm really grateful. They will really help a great deal.

I have applied for Study Leave from my place of work, but it is not handled fast enough and I should reapply maximum by the middle of this month, since I'm resuming on the 1st of May.
In case the letter is not ready by then, should I still reapply and then send it to them through web form when it is ready?

Thanks a bunch for your advice.

bullstriker:
This issue is common with people that come to us for Ph.D. or masters study permit application. Most people with scholarships assume they have met the financial requirement just by submitting scholarship letters. While this is correct in theory, Vos can ask the ‘what if’ questions, as they know that the scholarship is based on you maintaining satisfactory progress in the program. In addition, temporary resident applications, such as a study permit, are based on the discretion of the visa officer; one VO can approve your application, and the same application can be refused if given to another VO. So, you must add your account with substantial funds; have at least one year of living expenses. Better still, get a sponsor, even if it is a third-party sponsor to avoid stories that touch the heart.

The previous application would have been approved if you demonstrated that the funds in your sponsor’s account were accessible and what he would be paying for. Having a scholarship does not mean that VO will not ‘serve you breakfast’ for insufficient finance, as these scholarships, though available, is only accessible when you meet certain requirements. Another Vo can still refuse your application with a full scholarship. However, if you detailed and mentioned precisely what the scholarship cover, how much will be provided per period and when it will be disbursed, you can get away with it. Suppose you don’t have additional funds or a sponsor. In that case, I recommend you ask for a support letter from your Head of Department or supervisor addressed to IRCC stating that they GUARANTEED MAXIMUM FINANCIAL SUPPORT for tuition and living expenses and you are a highly deserving student.

Yes, family and jobs are strong ties. You can demonstrate this by getting a leave of absence or study.

Attestation of Registration and Statement of Results are acceptable in lieu of updated LoA when attached to the initial LoA.

It should please you to know that most VOs will treat your application kindly, having completed almost half of the program in Nigeria even after a refusal. The key to getting your application approved lies in your SoP.

Hi Nairalanders!
Good News to many who had refusals and want to apply for GCMS notes but are having some issues.

I applied FREE OF CHARGE on the 12th of December 2022 and my notes dropped TODAY, 4th February 2023 ( a month and three weeks). I actually did searches online and got the ATIP-AIPRP online request on the Canadian government website. It has two types of request: Access to Information Act and Privacy Act.
Access to Information Act costs $5CAD; but PRIVACY ACT is FREE. Go through Privacy Act and order your GCMS notes for free!
This is the link to the website:

https://atip-aiprp.apps.gc.ca/atip/welcome.do

Wishing everyone all the best!

*My next post will be about my refusal and what my GCMS notes say. Please, help in contributing so I can successfully fire back. Thank you all!

Hi Nairalanders!

Please, I need some help.
I am applying for summer (May 2023) and my passport expires February 2024; meaning I'll have just about 10 months or so available in the passport.

My application is for a PhD (4 years) programme but I've already successfully done 2 years online since 2020 lockdown from Naija here, and so the visa will be for 2 years, but available space in the passport will be 10 months.

How does this work, please? Will IRCC want to work with the passport and I renew over there or I'll need to renew before applying (I was told that renewal should be 6 months or lower in validity).

Again, I need info about Police Clearance Certificate. How much is it now, please?

Thank you so much for your replies Nairalanders.

Thanks so much for your reply. I really appreciate it. Well, while waiting for a reply, I tried the "Access to Information and Privacy (ATIP) Online Request" on the Government of Canada website, and I was passed through the "Privacy Act" since the former (which is 5$) is only for citizens, permanent residents... and the "Privacy Act" (which is free) could be used by foreigners. I submitted the request successfully.
But please, does that really work?

@Ucy12,

Sorry about your refusal......it will surely end in praise if you do not relent.

You may want to use ..... thegcmsonline.com to order for your CBSA of GCMS notes directly. You will only need to pay the Naira equivalent using your Naira debit Card which is not more than 6k NGN for either of the notes aforementioned.Whereas GCMS takes longer time in the recent months CBSA do not from my personal experience.

I hope this helps!!!!!!!

See you at the top.

Please, I would like to order for my GCMS notes. The refusal was in October 2020. Is it still possible to have it?
If yes, what authentic platform do I use since I don't have Canadian citizen or permanent resident who can help me out with it?
Finally, how long does it take to be ready?

Thanks so much and God bless as you help out with info.

You will discover that there are lot's of DOCUMENTS IRCC didn't ask for in the documents in the link.above but were merged & uploaded
Hi Lekiboboe!

I appreciate your good works here. God bless you!
I have same issue. For the BOLD, in my case, IRCC explained as:
IRCC If you would like to provide more information about your application that you have not already provided, you can attach a letter of explanation.

That's how it ended. I felt that's all I needed. I thought may be because it was my second time. My marriage certificate was provided the first time last year, as well as my BA transcripts and certificate, NYSC certificate, birth certificate... Though I attached my masters transcripts and certificate with my LOE because of an explanation I made. What do you think. Would they make reference to my last refused application of last year for those documents or do I need to provide them. Submitted online July 8, resuming Monday August 31, no update yet. Raised a web form yesterday.

Thanks for stepping in, sir.

Hello Ucy12,

Three weeks is enough time to look out for the possibility of things to fall in place. However, I think you should care your school along with any encounter you may experience. If you reason with them wisely, a sympathic extension may be granted. The early notice to them the better.

Given that most schools resumption will be commencing on 9th September or after, IRCC maybe working towards this timeframe to dole out their final decision. Though there may be exceptions given that Fall applicants have till September 15th to put in their applications. In my own observation, I think IRCC would process Fall 2021 applications from September through December along with Winter 2021 application. Reason being to the travel restriction in Canada and the 50% online studies outside Canada.

To your question on whether to relax or not, I believe your notes will be most appropriate to advise you. As usual, I believe SP applicants will still get the final decision without PCC. However, if its so required this time around, it will surely be requested.

All the best
Thank you so much, JustMellow, for throwing more light to this. Your advice would really help. God bless you, sir.

Hello Ucy12,

Since you will be taking online studies, there is still time for you to plead with your school for a little bit before considering the option to defer for the second time. You must also pray not to lose your scholarship and award.

Your application seems good. You may want to request for your notes. This you should have done before this time in order to know if you've passed eligibility. This enables you to easily blend comfortably well with the online studies without too much worries.

Only the VO knows the fate of the application but I hope it comes successful.

All the best
Thanks so much , JustMellow. I really appreciate your candid suggestions and advice.
From the look of things, it appears I could even start online classes before my bill drops. And from resumption I think we all have about 3 weeks or so within which we must pay our fees. Is it reason enough for me to relax and wait for the outcome?
Just like you indicated, I would still find it difficult to concentrate with studies without knowing the outcome of my SP.
Note: I didn't do PCC because of lockdown et al, hope this won't be an issue. Though they indicated that I don't need submit other document, that they are complete.
Step in bro and throw more light.
Thanks so much in advance.

Thank you so much for your reply and candid advice. Famly of 2 (H/W), no kids yet. I'm traveling alone, she'd join me later via visitor or open work permit visa.
I actually didn't meet up with the 11k CAD living expenses for Québec last year. Had just less than a million naira savings and no additional award, thought my sponsor's SOA would cover . This time reapplied for CAQ and Letter dropped from Quebec before I applied on July 8.
Didn't include extended family landed properties cos they're not documented. I personally have none now, only non documented ones in my village.
Thanks once again.

fratermathy:
I'll advise that you order your GCMS notes immediately to know your current standing.

PhD students seldom have study permit refusals due to purpose of study. In your case, it seems you were unable to show proof of Quebec living expenses of 13,000 CAD per year. Note that at the PhD level, VOs prefer self-sponsorship or scholarship than third party sponsorship. Your brother-in-law is not a strong sponsor. Maybe your wife may be better. Another factor that complicates your application is whether you'll go with your family. If so, you'll need more proof of funds. If not, you have to convince the VO that they'll be catered for. It may help if you list some landed assets that you own or that is owned by your family, immediate or extended.

Until we have your complete profile, we can only guess. You should raise a webform and order your GCMS notes ASAP.

Greetings to y'all Nairalanders! I've been a silent follower of this thread even before joining. You guys are doing a great job here, I must confess.
I need advice from these great experts here, please.

* Second timer for Study Permit (had a rejection last year2019 June ending on 3 grounds of the 216(1) of the IRPR: Purpose of visit, current employment situation, personal assets and financial status). Biometrics was done last year.

* I won two scholarships: one exempts me from paying as an international student: so my fee is 2k+CAD like Canadian citizens; the other is a 5k CAD faculty welcome scholarship I won, to be paid cash upon resumption and registration in Québec.

* My programme is a PhD in Université Laval QUÉBEC. I did my BA in UI Ibadan (2,1) and my Masters in France (2.1 equivalent).

* My sponsor is my brother-in-law ( sitting Registrar of a Federal University here in Nigeria) who gave me a SOA of about 7m Naira balance, and myself (2.6 m Naira balance salary account). I indicated my wife's support (a lecturer) in my SOP but didn't present her as sponsor.

* Repackaged and reapplied online with a strong SOP on July 8th (Eligibility and background checks from the next day July 9) and no updates till now. No AIP, no medical request. My Resumption is August 31st and I'm a bit worried because of time but much hopeful.

Abeg Nairalanders, make una put mouth for this matter. What are my hopes of having the SP this time and what do I do because of the time factor? Already chosen and registered my courses but yet to receive my bills to pay. Just two weeks to go ooo!

NB: I had only the exemption scholarship last year and it was retained after I deferred to this year. I got the additional 5k CAD scholarship this year.
Thank so much for your inputs, Nairalanders. May God bless us all!
