Effective teaching of Mathematics at all levels of education in Nigeria and Africa at large is one of the major keys to her development. Unfortunately, there are no much keen interest in Mathematics in our today's Africa.

STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics) is a vehicle Africa need to grow as per head with our counterpart across all other continents. To develop technology, we really need to understand technology itself and the it philosophy. To understand technology, we need to understand science and how and what makes things happen. To understand science, we must understand the language of science which is Mathematics. Development will grow faster and better if Africa embrace Mathematics as a culture of love.

Mathematics is as old as the world itself. It's a natural philosophy and a stone age technology which deals with radical thinking and logic. It's a science of reasoning.

Today, one can graduate from a secondary school in Nigeria and Africa in general without a good knowledge in Mathematics. One can conclusively say that in Africa, only few possess the ability to 'think-out-of-the-box'. It's obvious in the manner we organise events, plan programs and make political decisions. "Data from the UNESCO Institute for Statistics raises alarm about the prospects for 617 million children and adolescents who are unable to read properly or handle basic Mathematics."

According to “New global composite indicator, only half of the world’s children achieve minimum proficiency in reading and mathematics by the time they leave school” (UIS). Majority of this children are Africans.

BENEFITS OF MATHEMATICS TO AFRICA

Africa is very underdeveloped and our problems are numerous, therefore, one can highlight numerous benefits of mathematics to Africa

Investment in Mathematics in Africans education is investment in the future and generation yet unborn. One of the greatest benefits of mathematics to Africa is in the education of Africans.

When African children are mathematically sound at all levels, it affects the quality of reasoning, critical thinking and the brain development of the continent. This in turn becomes one of our greatest assets as a continent. America today is the world power not because of weapons but intelligence. Out of the world best 10 universities, 7 are in America alone. This tells you the level of how they deal with problems. Knowledge is power.

Investment in Mathematics in our educational sector will be the next best thing to happen in Africa. The kind of decisions, policies and leaders we produce in Africa presently can in one way or the other be traced to the level of reasoning of the average African man or woman.

When Africa invest in teaching mathematics as a culture, soonest, we will begin to produce virtually everything we need. This will in turn enhance the efficiency of the medical field, Engineering, Science and Technology.

Knowledge in Mathematics aids ICTs. ICT(Information Technology Communication) can be defined as a shorthand for the computers, software, networks, satellite links, and related systems that allow people to access, analyze, create, exchange, and use data, information, and knowledge in ways that were almost imaginable. The prevalence and rapid development of ICTs have transformed human society from the information age to the knowledge age in almost all sectors (e.g., ICT4agriculture). Today, India generate huge chunk of their yearly budget from the development of softwares.

It is saddening we are still far behind in Nigeria and Africa where there are large landmarks and fertile soils and yet we're still far behind other continents as we mainly depend on their Agricultural goods to feed on.

Addressing the problem of ICT only means you're addressing the bottle neck of doing business in Nigeria and Africa in general. You are solving the problem of data collection which can in turn reduce crime rate and increase productivity. Addressing the problem of ICT, Africa will solve the problem of rigging during elections as voting will be done and collated electronically thereby aiding transparency and accountability. {It is well known that Africa has leadership problem. Thus, developmental stakeholders should do all they can to address the issue of leadership in Africa to enable the continent compete with other continents in terms of rapid growth and development. It is not that Africa is not blessed with good leaders but because the incompetent ones take leadership positions. This is my partly because our choice in assessing, choosing and holding them accountable is faulty. This can be partly corrected by technology developmental stakeholders and Africa isn't that blessed with good leaders are our choice in analyzing them is faulty.

Let us also point out that there are other complementary aspects of Mathematics. Its cultural aspect, its cultural history, its importance in teaching and education as a vehicle for national thought, its importance in understanding the daily world (which is the Mathematics for common man), and it's aspect of a challenging intellectual game. Mathematics has played fundamental roles in the formulation of modern science since it very beginning.


DEVELOPING THE MATHEMATICS CULTURE IN AFRICA

Culture is a way of life of the people, like the way we eat, greet, dress, etc. Our culture must lead to the positive development of our continent Africa, otherwise, our culture is defective. Mathematics must be taken as a culture here in Africa if we must grow and grow faster.

Experts have urged African educators to make Mathematics education practical.

Doing so could aid the use of Mathematics in tackling the challenges of the continent.

Creating partnerships with institutions could generate interest among students

Creating interest in the mind of students to love and take Mathematics as part of life must be well addressed by Mathematics instructors and educators as well as the government. This interest must be deliberate and systematical at lower level.

“For students to see the benefits of mathematics at lower levels, they need to see what people do with Mathematics outside academic institutions."

Governments and educators should help bring the industry sector closer to education for mutual benefits.
 
In advanced countries, people see how mathematics is used in areas such as engineering and medicine but in Africa it remains a classroom thing.
 
If people can begin to see how mathematics is used in the banking and oil industries, for instance, then they will begin to appreciate why they want to study Mathematics,
but most of the times, even before students get to the university, they don’t see much value in the subject.”

Another point to be addressed is the assumption that Mathematics is gender based. Women should not look at Mathematics as male-dominated discipline as it is “a logical and sequential way of doing things and with practice women can excel in it just as much as men.” (Manalebish Debalike Asfaw, a Mathematics doctoral student at the University of Addis Ababa, Ethiopia who also spoke to SciDev.Net)


Conclusively, Africa must produce its own technology

{Africa must strive for development by taking STEM education under which Mathematics belong seriously.} Such a proposal might sound outlandish while so many people still lack basic necessities like food, clean water and medicine. In the long view of history, however, Mathematics and science have served as the foundation of modern society because they underlie every technology – from plumbing to telecommunications, medicine to satellites.

African continent has another problem. It is largely a consumer rather than a producer of the technologies it needs. If this doesn’t change, Africa will remain dependent and subject to outside control, its economies dominated by others’ exploitation of its natural resources. Nigeria and Africa in general will never escape from its reliance on international aid until it builds the capacity to develop itself.

Computers, mobile communications, and medical technologies are the modern engines of commerce, prosperity and public health. Africa will remain sidelined in these areas unless she nurtures its own experts, pioneers, and innovators and the vehicle for piloting 'Indigenous African Technology' is Knowledge in Mathematics.

The question 'can 5G cause Corona Virus or Covid-19' begs for answers that are based on facts and scientific proves overtime and not religious sentiments or for economic gains as believed by many in the world today. The most painful part is that fear has been induced in the world today via these unrealistic assertions that 5G can cause Coronavirus.

Lending my voice to scientists who have addressed this topic before now. Thanks to MrPhysics, a graduate of Nuclear Engineering  for his article "5G Network: Can It Cause Cancer or COVID-19". In his actual words:

Classifications of Radiations
They are two basic classification of radiations, they include:
1 Particle radiation: This contains charged and neutral particles

2. Electromagnetic radiation: (Photon flow. 5G belongs to this group.)
We can classify radiations according to their biological effects on matter, here, we have two types of radiations: Ionizing and non ionizing radiations.
You must have heard these two in recent times, so what is ionizing and non ionizing radiations?

a. Ionizing radiations: This means radiation have enough energy to eject one electron from the atom of the crossed material.

b. Non ionizing radiation: Particle energy is not enough to eject one electron from the atom, therefore it is said to have lower ionizing potential.

Having quoted MrPhysics. Here are my thoughts:

Covid 19 is a disease which is caused by a virus something completely different from to a mobile phone.

Viruses are tiny particles made up of genetic material, wrapped in a layer of proteins and fats.  They have no metabolism and can’t reproduce without causing an infection.  In the case of this coronavirus, it infects cells in human lungs in order to replicate, damaging them and also causing a harmful immune reaction in the process.  5G radio signals are electromagnetic waves, very similar to those already used by mobile phones (2G, 3G and 4G).  Electromagnetic waves are one thing, viruses are another, and you can’t get a virus on a Base Station (Mast).

There is no sensible link between the use of 5G frequencies and COVID-19 or any other virus or bacteria.  This sort of conjecture only contributes to the risk to individuals who are prepared to believe such non-science as opposed to the considerable efforts being made by medical science to enable the population to protect themselves in an informed manner.

The energy of the 5G wave is insufficient to break bonds and hence it is called ‘non-ionising’ as opposed to ‘ionising’ radiation such as X-rays.

Furthermore, the intensity transmitted from the masts is extremely low.  The risk from jeopardising a means of communication at the current time is of concern and is entirely unwarranted.

The supposed correlation between 5G and its development in China reveals a complete lack of understanding of the difference between cause and coincidence.  In the simplest terms there might have been a train leaving Wuhan station during 5G development, but the train departure was not caused by 5G.

The idea that COVID19 is caused by 5G mobile phone signals is complete rubbish. This is a disease which numerous doctors and scientists around the world have said is caused by a virus, something completely different to a mobile phone signal.

“The present epidemic is caused by a virus that is passed from one infected person to another. We know this is true. We even have the virus growing in our lab, obtained from a person with the illness. Viruses and electromagnetic waves that make mobile phones and internet connections work are different things. As different as chalk and cheese. The internet connections these networks give us are one of the most important tools we are using to coordinate our response to the epidemic and efforts to do research to overcome it. Damaging phone masts is like knocking holes in your lifeboats while your ship sinks." (Prof Adam Finn, Professor of Paediatrics, University of Bristol)

I am a graduate of Electrical Engineering who studied Electomagnetism and Electromagnetic Field theories at different levels. There is no scientifically credible evidence to link the introduction of 5G masts with the COVID-19 outbreak. This would be both a physical and biological impossibility.

Also your immune system can be dipped by all sorts of thing - by being tired one day, or not having a good diet. Those fluctuations aren't huge but can make you more susceptible to catching viruses.
While very strong radio waves can cause heating, 5G is nowhere near strong enough to heat people up enough to have any meaningful effect.

Radio waves can disrupt your physiology as they heat you up, meaning your immune system can't function. But [the energy levels from] 5G radio waves are tiny and they are nowhere near strong enough to affect the immune system. There have been lots of studies on this.

The radio waves involved in 5G and other mobile phone technology sit on the low frequency end of the electromagnetic spectrum. Less powerful than visible light, they are not strong enough to damage cells thereby making it impossible to transmit virus.

It's also important to note another major flaw with the conspiracy theories - Coronavirus is spreading in Nigeria cities such as Lagos, Abuja, Benin, etc and  UK cities where 5G has yet to be deployed, so, what is causing and spreading the virus over there? 5G network I guess!

On a final note, Viruses invades human or animal cells and use them to reproduce, which is what causes infection. Viruses cannot live very long outside a living thing, so they have to find a way in - usually via droplets of liquid from coughs or sneezes.
Genome sequencing of this coronavirus suggests it jumped from animals to humans - and then began to pass from human to human. This is not a characteristics of an Electromagnetic radiation, in this case 5G radio waves.

Conclusively, while we wait for other evidence as to what causes this virus and how it can be eliminated, 5G cannot be related to COVID 19 and cannot transmit the virus.

I will mention just three (3) recent infrastructure by the GEJ administration:
1. The Omotosho Gas Power Station in Ondo State
2. The establishment of The Federal University, Oye-Ekiti
3. The Olorunshogo Gas Power Station in Ogun State. Let me stop here...

A friend of mine also spoke greatly against GEJ that he never did any project in Edo State, then I told him one(1), he never believed. But thank God he went there on a field trip. That same friend called me and was amazed... He never knew because he allowed hatred for GEJ to be loud him due to the fact that Edo State is an APC state, therefore, when FG project is going on they don't celebrate them.

You'll not see what the PDP government did for SW because your governors were oppositions, but thank God Fashola who later appreciated the GEJ regime for the massive infrastructural development in the power sector.

I'm not a fan of any political party, but I'm a fan of Nigeria.

New Concept Mathematics

In 2014, in my final year in the higher institution, I lost one of my best friend (Odo Onyebuchi Cornelius) of about 6-7years. He lived 1986 - 2014. I cried as if the will be my last tears. We both have come a long way, but that couldn't bring him back. Then again, I lost my father in March 2016. He lived 1949 - 2016. Up till now, I am still feeling the absence of a father, it's just by God's grace. And not quite long, I lost a dear friend who we both served Nigeria together as Corps members. He died in 2017. He lived 1988 - 2017.

Why all these analysis? There is always a DASH in every man's life that have died. The dead have no life anymore. Infact, their own DASH has ended with a date but what we have as living beings now is THE DASH BETWEEN.

The life and death of every being lies with God only, but THE LIFE BETWEEN THE DASH depends on us. Every being has A DASH.
A DASH (-) is the span of years from our birth until our death. It's also the choices we make as we live our lives. THE DASH represents the legacy of our time here on earth. It symbolizes all of our achievement, disappointment, and the objectives we met or failed to meet, the relationship we built or lost and the kind of impacts we made on lives and others- whether good or bad. The dash defines the person you are as an individual, what you stand for and the content or quality of your life.

"Your birth and death does not really define your life, but THE DASH does. It is the only thing that matters. Being a good person is not eenough, without Christ, all your efforts and labour here on earth WILL HAVE NO ETERNAL VALUE. Eccl 12:8.
Every life we live in the dash whether good or bad without Christ is vanity. In the journey of life in the dash, we must not forsake Jesus who was crucified for our sake. If I was the only man on earth, Jesus would have still died for me. Ohhhh, what a great love!
From my friends to my father, people said very good things about them; how he helped them and the rest of other things, but these are men's observation, what about God's views and standards. Our sole duty in the dash is to fear God and do His will only. Eccl 12:13.

Any part of the Old Testament Jesus did not physically correct before He died, please be careful. Don't use your hand to correct what Jesus didn't correct. We saw the importance of tithing in the Old Testament and how it affected the people when they stopped paying it at some point.

They said tithing is in the Old Testament, so is the Old Testament an Old word of God. The bible was written by the inspiration of the Holy Spirit. It took about 40 Holy Men in a during of about 1,600 years to write and someone will begin to argue it with mere physical emotions or feelings.

My question is; is the Old Testament still valid in this present day or not?

The Apostles travelled from one city to the other, with what money, or who provided the job for them to work, was it Peter who left fishing?

Bros nor Vess, ya mention one criteria to call a place a city or town, look at the following towns listed if they met it, you must also compare it with other states on that list, removing their two major cities if they have up to two other than the state capital. Then you can go ahead to do your own rating. I've a right to my opinion. Though my opinion is based on my travelling to virtually all the state's in that list

Sincerely Delta state would have been the most developed. The only problem is lack of modern infrastructures and amenities. If Delta state can be well organized, men, it would be among the highest ranking states in Nigeria.

My opinion though. I've lived in most of the state's on that list, though I'm from Delta State.

River State is over-hyped. Apart from Portharcourt, where else is developed? To me, Delta State is the most visibly most developed state in SS. Delta State can boost of more than 5 township stadiums, upto 2 airports and very good road network and great transport system. All the towns or major towns in Delta State can boast of A Stadium and other great infrastructures which a city can have. Development is not population.

Delta State also boost of great cities and towns apart from Warri and Asaba. Delta State comprises of great cities like Sapele, Oghara, Agbor, Ughelli, Igbuzor, Ozoro, Oleh, Escavos, etc. These places are also developed. Development is not a centred system, it's supposed to be evenly. No part of SS has a massively spread development like Delta State. One might not noticed from the highways when travelling because most of the cities and town are inside

To me, Delta State should take the first position based on my exposure to these states. Since last week, I've been in Edo State.

Those are the sort of baby Christians you get when you encourage Christians to depend on pastors. You get Christians who live only by the dictates of their Papa and Daddy GO. Christians who are too scared to examine the teachings of their teachers. Christians who elevate their Papa and Daddy GO to the place of God thereby usurping the true and only Pastor (Christ) in their lives.

The plan of God is that we be born of the Spirit, grow and become mature. How can a Christian mature spiritually when his teacher only teaches him how to be financially successful by tithing? Was that the responsibility of the elders in the Early Church? When did elders become motivational speakers when their responsibility was to guide the saints through the Word with the aid of the Holy Spirit, to feed the flock with the Word? How can Christians grow when the teacher is more concerned about building the biggest church auditorium, flying the most expensive jets and building universities up and down? How does preaching about tithes make a Christian grow spiritually?

Finally, like I wrote in my first post to you, no one is indispensable in the Church. We all need to be subject to one another, not to someone who calls himself a pastor.

A pastor is one who feeds the flocks and taking oversight functions 1 Pet 5:2. Of cause, I'm not saying that there are no person using the name of God to enrich themselves, the scripture and God is aware of that. The wrongest part of your twisted interpretation of the bible passage is the segregation of 'us and they'. If you understand that the Pastor, Prophet, Teacher, Apostle or Evangelist are categories the totality of us fall into with each complementing the other, you will stop spreading that King (Pastor, Papa-Daddy) and the slaves ( the gullibles that need a Pastor) doctrine. The five fold ministry is given to believers and in a healthy gathering of the believers everyone must fall into a category, without 'Paparing and Daddifying' one brother out of many.
If your notion of needing a Pastor does not accomodate that the Pastor needs you that is a teacher, an evangelist, a prophet or an Apostle to the extent that you share in all good things as much as he is entitled to, then your teachings negates that of Christ. It is then the idolatrous worship of gods of men, the pastor enterpreneurs you talked of and their branch managers.

Even if you fall in one category, may be a Prophet, that means you have the gift of prophecy and not the gift of the word of God. How many prophets really understand the spiritual insight in the word of God, in this case, a prophet then need a teacher who God has specially blessed with the gift of knowledge and wisdom. In same vein, a teacher needs a prophet for direction, warning, etc. Mind you there are directions, warnings, etc in the bible but God gives a prophet an instant message, warning, etc which might not even be in the bible. Here a teacher then needs a prophet.

From all perspective, one needs a pastor

First, you are getting a lot of things wrong.

The term Man of God has now become an exclusive appellation for pastors. This is totally wrong. A man or woman of God is one who walks before God and is blameless. This person does not need to be a religious leader within a corporate religious body. All he needs to do is to love God sincerely and how can you love God sincerely? It is by loving the Poor (the least of your brethren). God is Love. You don't need titles to love God.

Also, everyone needs everyone in the Church. We are all priests united by the Eternal priesthood of Christ who is the Chief Priest. Christ is the only one who is indispensable. You don't need the protection of your pastors or someone to represent you on a Man-made altar. All those are traditions of men which ended with the Blood shed on the cross of Calvary.

IN the old testament or church, we had leaders or priest such as ELI, SAMUEL, JOSHUA, ELIJAH, etc

The list can go on. No one is perfect, that is true, but it's God that gives perfection by His empowerment

Even after that death of Jesus, the disciples continued to be leaders and priest, mentors, etc We also had Peter, how come in Act 10 God had to send Peter to Cornelius？Even the bible stated that Cornelius was a godly man, he gives alms, pray, gives sacrifice, but needs Jesus, and Peter presence was needed, I can say here that Peter did the work of a Pastor. We had Paul, Timothy, etc
