And all this has been achieved without Nigeria being self reliant in fertilizer production. once indorama petrochemicals in eleme rivers state completes there expansion of their fertilizer plant and the fertilizer plant that Dangote is building in Edo state comes onstream. Agric production in the country will be off the hook.
GEJ is the best thing to happen in Nigeria. I only hope that he could solve the politically motivated insecurity in the country.

samtol4: @op ! How many graduates are employed in ibom 5 star hotel? The money should ve been invested in ibaka seaport .In 2008 I was at ibaka seaport and this is 2014 the seaport is not ready. The seaport would have change the destinies of akwa ibomites forever .only the myopic minds will scream to the heavens over building of hotel ! No doubt the governor has tried in moving the state forward but building hotel when the state depend on Abia state for daily needs is very hilarious to a sane being .
The seaport is a long term project its gestation period is longer, the process is tedious because of all the parties involved in the project. its not just the state government. you have to carry the presidency, the private/foreign investor, the ministry of transport, the port authority, the inland water ways and several other interest, the construction company along and also there is a tedious preliminary planning and hydrological surveys that takes time.be patient.
But rest assured that this administration is working night and day to make sure that that project is accomplished. the construction of the seaport will begin first quarter next year, this is a priority project for the state and it will be accomplished. All that is left for the project is for the FEC to meet and approve the project so FG part of the funding can be released for the project

FYI just because A'Ibom is building a seaport does not mean every other project has to be suspended for the seaport.

samtol4: TOTAL WASTE OF RESOURCES! How does this project benefit the unemployed masses especially the youths? How many industries do we have in that state? That is African problem "misplaced priority"The greatest problem in Nigeria is unemployment! All the governors are stylishly dodging this "monster"called unemployment .have they finish using ibom 5 star hotel? .someone suggested 7years ago that each local govt in Akwa ibom should have industry but the suggestion was thrown into dustbin so today that some people are living in acute poverty ! Akwa ibom as a state can't produce anything we depend solely on Abia state for everything excluding oil., The numbers of akwa ibomites going to Aba market everyday are evidence of this fact .Population is increasing industries are decreasing !
have you ever heard of service industry of which hospitality is a part of?My dear not all industries are manufacturing. do you know how many jobs an internationally branded hotel provides?

LiteratureUYO - A Poem By Iniobong Umoh by ujoinme(op): 5:00am On Jul 13, 2014
UYO

There is a city south of Nigeria
Bordered in the south by the Atlantic
The administrative capital of oil rich Akwa Ibom state
Uyo is the name
She is bubbling and sparkling
Like a young maiden
Suitors chase after her
With roses plucked from the garden
A metropolitan center
She is serene and has a gentle mien
A beautiful bride beseeched by many admirers

Ibom connection is the heart of the city
Round, fine and classy
Bringing the major roads together
like a family meeting in december
Ibom plaza is a place to remember
Shops, flowers, water fountains, parks seat
amphitheatre, hangouts spots
A den of photographers
Chasing customers around like the paparazzi

Uyo is a city with decent infrastructure
Architectural masterpieces dot the landscape
Airport, stadium, cinema all of them international
The people are warm and hospitable
It is in their nature
The food is good and suitable
Hotels spring forth daily
Bills are low, high and accessible
Open to wayfarers, guests and tourists

Uyo is a religious lady
Her churches are a dime and a dozen
Found at every corner, nook and cranny
Pentecostal and orthodox they include
Methodist, Presbyterian, Anglican, Catholic, Qua Iboe
Winners, Redeemed, Power city, Apostolic, Full life, Victory chapel
Filled with worshippers with prayer requests
As diverse as the languages in the tower of Babel

The city of prophets, prayer houses & vision centers
Commandeered by self styled bishops, pastors & overseers
Raining down prophecies left, right and center
Hapless folks flock in to fight the unseen enemy
Carrying out assignments for a change of destiny
While the clerics smile to the banks as the money pile up

Uyo is a city of yellow tricycles
Drivers plying main roads, sidestreets & backstreets
Seeking for passengers in a bid to earn a living
Exotic vehicles racing along with sirens
Politicians, business men and celebrities
Enjoying the comfort only money can buy

Poverty and penury lives next door to riches
Elites live in highbrow areas with no hitches
in palatial mansions, Ewet housing and Shelter afrique
Money is the real deal, if only you can pay the bills

Uyo dazzles with radiance at night
The city comes alive with bright lights
Illuminating the streets tis a great sight
A beauty to behold, not to be told
The hangouts and entertainment spots bubbles
Night crawlers and fun seekers, singles and couples
Hit the fun spots to while away the time
Dog meats, spicy sauces & drinks are the menu prime
Roasted plaintain, grilled chicken & ufofob
are all in line

The Red light district fills up with patronizers
Hunters and hawkers even vulcanizers connect
Business booms as they lay unseen
Frolicking in the valley of sin
Maitama.

Uyo is a commercial city
Markets bustling with goods
Udua akpan andem, udua itam
Shopping centers, supermarkets & Boutiques
But her source of income is monthly
Civil servants count the days quietly
Waiting for the sms alert
That shows that the pay has rolled in
while contractors and businessmen
hold sway
holding cash
hoarding cash
spending cash

A city of good roads
Smooth and shiny they lie entwined
One lane, four lanes, two lanes, highways
Flyovers, pedestrian bridges, walkways
Aka road, Oron road, Ikot ekpene road
Nwaniba road and Abak road
The central business district
The abode of banks
Renamed after a president
No one cares to remember

Ikpa road stands strong
The domicile of University of Uyo
A school of stress
A citadel of knowledge
churning out graduates that impress
Staying at the top of their fields
worthy of praise

Uyo they say sometimes is a city soulless
Dry, drab and hapless
Youths huddled round newspaper vendor stands
Debating politics & local conspiracies
Stuck in the Etok syndrome
Unwilling to see the mental picture
of the big future

Uyo welcomes you with open arms
won’t you come into her embrace?

You need to grow up! which internationally branded hotel did okorocha plan or build and when did the youths prevent him from building it? There is a difference between a mom and pop bed and breakfast motel and an international branded hotel. FYI a brands like Hiton, sheraton le meridien which Akwa ibom state government are attracting, are all industries and they employ a lot of highly skilled individuals with internationally competitive salaries. Its called hospitality industries. not all industries are manufacturing, there are is also a service industry that generates a lot of money and jobs which Akwa Ibom and Nigeria seriously needs.do you bother to think how many jobs those 3 hotels will provide for the locals when fully operational, and the impact / influence it will have for the local hospitality industries in the state? It will force hotel owners to up their game and will also afford them a model to imitate in order to improve their service.

Lobolintin: Nt even 5 star.. Chio
true its not a 5 star hotel. the four points by sheraton is not a five star brand anywhere in the world. But the attraction is that it brings a world standard hotel management into the state. so that investors and visitors are able to book their rooms from anywhere in the world and are sure that the quality of service will match that of any four points by Sheraton in the world. that goes a long way to boost confidence for would be visitors and helps in convincing then to visit.

There is also the 250 rooms 15 floor hilton hotel currently under advanced stage of construction in Uyo Which is expected to be operational by the end of 2014. and the prestigious Le Meridien golf resort which is already operational in the state. this additions will bring the number of internationally branded hotels in Akwa ibom to three.
This is indeed making Akwa Ibom increasingly attractive for investment. kudos to Akpabio and the state government for making Akwa Ibom better with their uncommon transformation vision.

Akwa Ibom Government has signed an agreement with American leisure and hospitality company, Starwood International, for the management of its four-point Sheraton Hotel under construction at Ikot Ekpene.

The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that the agreement was signed by the Special Duties Commissioner, Mr Emmanuel Enoidem and Starwood’s Vice-President, Mr Hassan Ahdab on Friday in Uyo.

The new 128 standard rooms, 16 suits, two presidential suits, 12-story hotel under construction and being handled by Renaissance Construction Group, is scheduled for inauguration in March 2015.

“The signing of the agreement is another milestone for Akwa Ibom people and the building of the four-point hotel is to strengthen our hospitality industry in the state.

“The construction of the hotel is already ongoing. We are on the seventh floor now and we are expected to commission the hotel on March 31, 2015,” Enoidem said.

According to him, Ikot Ekpene’s location for the hotel stemmed from its strategic contributions as one of the oldest cities in the state.

“It is not only known as a raffia city but it is an archival centre for Akwa Ibom State.

“The project is sited at where the former Ikot Ekpene Prison was located which we had pulled down and relocated to another area.

“So, the hotel will turn the place of grief to a place of joy because this government came with a determination to turn our sorrow to an uncommon joy,” Enoidem said.

He said the government had decided to create an enabling environment for the private sector to play key role in the economy of the state.

Enoidem said the hotel would be managed by the private sector as a way of turning the state from a civil service to a private sector driven economy.

Earlier, the Vice-President of Starwood international, thanked the government for the trust in his company.

Ahdab assured that the company would continue to support the government for the development of leisure and hospitality industry.

He also lauded Gov. Godswill Akpabio for the massive transformation of the state through infrastructure development.

NAN further reports that the Le’ Meridien Hotel and Golf Resort in the state are currently managed by Starwood International. (NAN)

Sahara reporters are the worst bloggers ever! sahara reporters are unprofessional and plays into the western stereotype of putting down the black race. they are full of reporters with inferiority complex espercially Sowore, who believes that in order to be accepted by his white slave masters they must put down Africa just like all western media does.

Sahara reporters bias towards Nigeria is akin to that of BBC,VOA and other western media but unfortunately it is propagated by a self hating bunch of Nigerians who should know better, but instead of reporting their country objectively have resorted to allowing themselves to be a willing tool in the hands of the western media propaganda.

Being objective does not mean being in the pocket of the government, but being a watchdog of the government, just like BBC, VOA,PBS, CCTV, CANAL+, etc does for their respective government/country.
I doff my hats for Channels TV, for doing a good job in propagating the multi -dimensional image of Nigeria in a balanced and objective way, as opposed to the uni-dimensional lenses that the western media and their man Friday - sahara reporters see Nigeria.
