A politician that claims to fight the FG, apologizing for the inability to fill a 16,000 seater stadium in a state of over 5 million people, for his major political rally.

ha ha ha ha , If the stadium was full as you guys have opined, why did amechi begin his speech by apologizing for the low turn out?

Amaechi looked like a clown/ dirty Babalawo holding that APC broom at the rally. A sitting gov. at the height of his most recent political move is unable to fill a 16,000 capacity stadium in a state with over 5 million residents, and has to make excuses for the low turnout is not exactly a political asset/populist and hence what he says only matter to his new party and his kitchen cabinet/paid supporters.He does not have the support of the people of rivers state evidence by the low turnout.

Pls can you show pictures of the construction that's ongoing at the state university? you know the rule in nairaland, if you cant show pictures it means it didn't happen.

All the pics i have seen of the school via facebook which i have posted most of them on this thread are very disappointing. If you have pictures of whats not been shown already of the school please post.

finally Gov. Orji is doing something commendable. Abia airport will thrive there is a lot going on in Aba alone to keep this airport going. He should start now to decide what additional business besides passenger travel to add to the airport be it perishable cargo, hotels,Maintenance facility etc.
Kudos to gov. orji on this move.

I know he will not be able to complete an airport when he has just 17months to go in his tenure. He should start the project to an appreciable level so it will be easier for the next administration to complete it.

Every state in Nigeria that can afford it, should build a standard airport. Bauchi and jigawa states has just proven that to build a standard airport thats geared towards passenger travel a state does not need to break a bank to do so. they used N8B and N11Billion respectively for their airports. Thats about 10% of annual budgets of an average state in Nigeria, spread into 4 yrs tenure that 2% of annual bubget X 4yrs its totally doable.

Akwa ibom airport has been operating regular scheduled flight since 23 rd sept 2009 after its inuguration, as a matter of fact you can buy tickets and get flights to and from that airport any day you want.

can you say same for you propaganda APC Airport? BTW this thread is about Jigawa state progressively delivering dividend of democracy to it citizens not for APC propaganda.

The only development you will see in you APC state will continue to be on the pages of news papers and on the drawing board of your fraudulent APC Gov. like the one you quoted.

Yes I do, it is a necessary infrastructure for any state, provided the state government can afford to build it. Using Federal money to build it is another issue entirely.

If the state spends money to build it then it will find a way to make it profitable/ viable.

Viability of airports is for the users/owners to determine, airports are not just for passenger travels there are other major business that can grow around an airport
ie Cargo - especially perishable cargo terminal that can boost agricultural production, the reason Agric is not booming in Nigeria is lack of ready market, if we expand our market to exports,then it will boost production and this is where airports play a major role with regards to our country at the present time.

Nigeria lacks an indigenous parcel delivery service this could be an area of business growth in the country, and the major ingredient for such business will be availability of air transportation to every state of the federation.

Emergency management + health care .

Maintenance repair and overhaul of aircrafts.

security/military defence.

Boosting tourism though access to the sites via airports etc etc

Dont just measure viability based on passenger movements alone. there are other bussiness that can make an airport viable in nigeria. the fact that those markets and oppurtunities are not utilized today does not mean it will not be utilized tomorrow.

My question to you is would you prefer your governor to loot 8- 12 billion the cost of bauchi and jigawa airport respectively into his personal bank account or use it to build and airport even if you deem it unviable?

trust me these Nigerian governors are stealing that amount of money within their 4 years tenure.

Like i said all APC airports are in the pipeline! all your links points to newspaper clips of MOU and contracts awards when you have something concrete with planes flying in and out you can come back and post it. All the 4 airport i mentioned are on ground not on some politician drawing board like yours.

Some state governors are performing others are busy giving excuses. Gov. lamido has done a good job and should be comended for it. this airport will help improve the lives of the local farmers in jigawa state as it is going to house the perishable cargo terminal that will be used in exporting perishable agricultural products which that state is noted for.

In just 10 months the airport was completed to a stage that i could airlift pilgrims to mecca. And the governor spent only N11billion on the project.

This is why i am of the school of thought that every state in Nigeria should have its own airport, they don't have to break the bank to do it, Bauchi used 8 billion to build its own, and now lamido used 11 billion this proves that standard airports can be constructed at minimal cost in every state without one, upgrades can come later when they are needed. So all state governors that are using the no money excuse should STFU,

Kudos to Gov. Lamido and the people of jigawa.

Many are complaining that GEJ is not working yet under his leadership 4 state government has built their own airport, if this is not development then i dont know what is, for this is the first time in the history of the nation that state governments are doing as good.

Aviation Minister, Princess Stella Adaeze Oduah has said the Federal Government is very committed to the actualisation of the dream of Jigawa Airport project. The Minister spoke while on inspection tour of the progress of work on the project.
The Minister, who expressed happiness on the pace of work on the airport project, said the Federal government will do everything within its powers to support the laudable project of the Sule Lamido administration in the state.
The Minister said the airport, when completed would tremendously boost the economy of the state and its environs, adding that the Federal government would also construct a Perishable Cargo terminal to enhance the agricultural produce and commercial viability in the area.
She said Jigawa airport has the potential to become the Perishable Cargo hub in the region, adding that this will greatly enhance the income of farmers in the area who would have ready international markets for their produce.
She said the government was very proud of the milestones already achieved by governor Lamido in a little over eights months of the commencement of the project, and expressed the hope that the airport would commence full operations in the first quarter of 2014.
In his remarks, Lamido expressed happiness with the support his government has received from the federal government on the project, adding that at the pace work was being executed, the airport would be completed by the end of January 2014.
The governor agreed with Oduah that the airport would boost the economy of the state, adding that when completed, the airport would be the hub in the region in terms of agricultural produce export.
He disclosed that the project would cost the state government about 11 billion naira, stressing that the success achieved within eight months of the commencement of the project is a good example of what Nigeria and Nigerians can achieve with the right determination and focus.

CFCfan: The FG may decide to designate only Nigerian Eagle as the nation's sole international carrier, as they are in negotiations with Arik to be part of the new carrier.

That dosnt sound like a good plan? cant the national carrier exist alongside Arik, or have multiple national carriers like in the USA? Am against any govt ran or govt mandated bussines especially Nigerian govt whose policies is as fleeting as the administration.

Arik is doing well as a private airline its operations should not be impeded in the name of national carrier.

Another airline with enugu, Ph or any of the former eastern regional airport as its hub will be very viable.
