Nobody needs atheism as such except for the freedom of their own mind. But if you want a better Nigerian, there is no way you can avoid evaluating religion and it's lapses. This country is conservative, our laws are, they are morally reprehensible but more importantly they are made by religious people. Think about it.

I don't like arguing against religion as such because it entails analysing confusion and falsities. What if I told you that keeping people in the fear of hell is even bad as a deterrent for reprehensible behaviour. The end result is that we have sociopaths on leashes. That is why despite the fear of hell, people will commit crimes so grave that you wonder if hell burns at all. The absolution of wrongdoings by religion (forgiveness) also makes it worse as it simply issues license for people to commit atrocities and avoid the same hell without accountability.

As for atheists being guided by their own mind, again that is wrong. We are not morally obligated to our minds, as social animals, we are morally obligated to our society. I'm telling you that we as atheists and human beings are "forced" to be morally upright beings because being otherwise means a collapse of our society. Look at largely irreligious countries that do not have fear of hell, they are better off that the most religious countries that blast prayers and supplications at 5am daily. Ever stopped to ask yourself why? It is because they recognise that their society can't function without they realizing their socially moral duties to one another. I suppose they are even more enlightened than blighted religious ignoramuses to quickly understand this.

Actually Atheism can't suffice or serve as a moral guide. Any moral atheist you see draws their morality innately, as do we all. Morality is not taught, neither was it brought on us by religion and it also didn't start thousands of years ago when the Abrahamic religions were born. Morality is a consequence of the socializing of living things, including us humans. To give you a clear picture, I will talk about monkeys. They usually live in groups/bands and coexist with much success. For them to be able to do this, there must be a common guide for them. It wasn't written, it wasn't taught, it wasn't even deliberate. For the group not to scatter in chaos the monkeys must consider carefully (at least to the extent of their consciousness and reasoning) their actions and subsequently, effects. I have seen monkeys beat individual ones for stealing, I've seen them prostitute, defend each other (and their harems), share food, care for young and old and other actions that ensure individual are at peace in the group to enjoy the benefit of living in bands like reproduction and security.

Same for humans, I am not supposed to steal, kill, rape etc not because it will lead me to hell but that it is detrimental to the cohesion of the society and we recognize it as so. Which is why we have laws binding members that want to enjoy the benefits of having a society. Atheism is just a lack of belief in God, nothing more. It can't teach you to recognise good and evil as they affect the society.

As for religion being the ultimate moral guide, I will simply ask you this "After reading from the bible that it's okay to be good, who decides and processes with thoughts that what they just read is the right thing? You or the bible?"

You'll see while some people might need religion to point out or remind them that they should be good, others can do it fine on their own because they already know the society by default demands it, the very existence of a society relies on it.

The point is: many of these theists do not even know that an atheist is more likely to let his woman/man keep his or her religion or beliefs while being together. Such is the level of security that atheists have in themselves, that they don't have to de-religion you to be with you. But theists knowing that their belief in a sky wizard and a holy goat is based on nothing but fear of the unknown, are so intimidated to date/marry these highly secured folks called atheists fearing that their beliefs will come crumbling in the face of a happy and fulfiled life outside god.

Machine Learning is done to break the bounds of which a robot has been programmed. In essence, the robot will learn experientially (which is our kind of learning as humans) to develop it's intelligence. When a robot learns like a human, what does that tell you?

The automation of jobs is bound to happen. What we should looking for now are the right political ideals that will ensure people do not rip off each other when it comes to assigning resources for daily living. Jobless people and automated production will deal a big blow to capitalism, as people only embrace it because it still throws crumbs at them. What happens when the capitalists don't need the low income earners anymore? I believe there is a future for Democratic Socialism after all.
