Interrogation in the Grave
Like death, the questioning of the grave is unavoidable.
Everyone who has passed away is actually alive in the
grave but the true nature of this life is beyond the realm
of human comprehension, and while in that grave, each
and every person will be interrogated about his faith.
No one will be able to abscond. For the transgressor
and the disbeliever, it will be a testing, traumatic
experience about which the Prophet (sall Allāhu ʿalayhi
wa sallam) said,
“It has been revealed to me that you
will be tried in the grave; in severity, it
will resemble the trial of al-Masīḥ al-
Dajjāl.” [1]
The interrogation of the grave is something terrifying to
behold, “[In this world], I have not seen a sight more
harrowing than the grave” [2] and our Messenger (sall
Allāhu ʿalayhi wa sallam) was so apprehensive of it and
what comes after that one time, he stood by the side of
a grave as a burial was happening, weeping and
counselled his Companions,
“My brothers! Prepare yourself for this
day!” [3] After burying the deceased, he
would say, “Ask for forgiveness and
firmness for your brother, because he is
now being questioned.” [4]
“The grave is the first stage of the Hereafter. If a person
succeeds there, what comes after will be easier; but if
he fails, what comes after will be much harder.” [5]
Success and failure will be determined entirely by the
faith of a person and what they did during their life. In
order for us to know how to pass this most important
of tests, we first need to know what questions will be
asked. Once we know what they are, we can determine
what steps need to be taken, what preparation needs to
done, in order to succeed.
Our narrative begins at the point when the soul is
returned to the body in the grave and the deceased
hears the footsteps of the mourners as they leave. [6]
Some people will be visited by two angels; stern, dark
skinned with blue eyes, [7] voices like thunder and eyes
like lightning-bolts: Munkar and Nakīr. [8] Others will be
visited by just one of them. [9] They will make him sit
up and sit up he will, rubbing his eyes. The sun will
appear in front of him, red and dim as if just setting.
[10] If he was a true believer, his prayers will be
positioned at his head, his zakāh on his right side, his
fasting on his left and the remainder of his good deeds,
specifically charity, joining ties of kinship, good
treatment of other people, by his legs. Punishment will
approach him from each of these directions and each
of those deeds will state, “You have no means of
access here.” [11] The angels will begin to question him
but he will say, “Give me some time to pray.” They will
say, “You can do so later, first answer.” [12]
Despite their alarming appearance, the believer will
neither be terrified nor overwhelmed. [13] The angels
will ask different people different sets of questions, but
all will revolve around belief in the Messenger (sall
Allāhu ʿalayhi wa sallam) and following him:
“It is about me that you will be tested
and about me that you will be
interrogated.” [14]
“What did you say about this man, Muḥammad (sall
Allāhu ʿalayhi wa sallam)?” The believer will reply, “I
bear witness that he is Allāh’s servant and
Messenger.” [15]
“What do you know of this man?” The believer will
reply, “Muḥammad, Allāh’s Messenger, he came to us
with guidance and clear proofs. We answered him,
believed in him and followed him.” [16]
“What did you say about this man?” He will reply,
“Allāh’s servant and Messenger, I bear witness that
there is none worthy of worship save Allāh and
Muḥammad is his servant and Messenger.” [17]
“What were you on?” He will reply, “Islām.” He will be
asked, “Who is this man?” He will reply, “Muḥammad,
Allāh’s Messenger (sall Allāhu ʿalayhi wa sallam). He
came to us with guidance and clear proof and we
believed in him.” He will be asked, “Have you seen
Allāh?” He will reply, “None can see Allāh.” [18]
“Who is your Lord?” He will reply, “My Lord is Allāh, my
Prophet is Muḥammad.” [19]
“What did you worship?” If Allāh guided him, he will
reply, “I worshipped Allāh.” He will be asked, “What did
you say about this man?” He will reply, “He is Allāh’s
servant and Messenger.” [20]
“Who is your Lord?” He will reply, “My Lord is Allāh.”
They will ask, “What is your religion?” He will reply, “My
religion is Islām.” They will ask, “Who is this man that
was sent to you?” He will reply, “He is Allāh’s
Messenger.” They will ask, “How do you know?” He will
reply, “I read Allāh’s Book, had faith in it and believed
it.”’ [21]
Once the believer has responded, the angels will say,
‘We knew you would say this,’ [22] and a voice will then
proclaim,
“My servant has spoken truthfully,
prepare his bed from Paradise, open a
door to Paradise for him and clothe him
in the garments of Paradise.”’ [23]
Through that opening, he will look on at its beauty and
splendour. A gateway to the Fire will also open before
him and he will see it, one part consuming the other and
will be told, “Look at what Allāh saved you from, this
would have been your abode had you disobeyed
Him.” [24] Both sights will increase his joy. [25]
His grave will expand, stretching out as far as he can
see, [26] becoming a green, fertile garden, [27] and it will
be lit up like on a night when the moon is full. [28] [29]
He will ask permission to go to his family to tell them
the great news, but will be told to rest and given the
glad tidings, [30]
“You spent your days in certainty, you
died in a state of certainty, and in a
state of certainty will you be
resurrected by Allāh’s permission.” [31]
A man with a comely face, nice garments and a
pleasant odour will come to him and say,
“Rejoice, you have tidings that will
delight you: rejoice in good pleasure
from Allāh and gardens of eternal bliss.
This is your day which you have been
promised.”
He will ask, “Who are you, your face is beautiful and
bodes well?” He will reply, “I am your good deeds, by
Allāh I always knew you to be quick to do good deeds,
slow to do bad deeds, may Allāh give you the best
reward.” He will then supplicate,
“My Lord, quicken on the last
hour!” [32]
He will then fall asleep, sleeping the sweetest sleep
imaginable until resurrected and, while like this, his soul
will be placed in the body of a bird which eats from the
trees of Paradise. [33] [34] It is concerning this that
Allāh’s Messenger (sall Allāhu ʿalayhi wa sallam) said,
“The soul of a believer is a bird that
eats from the trees of Paradise until it
is restored to his body on the Day of
Rising.” [35]
The two Angels will also come to the disbeliever and
make him sit up, and sit up he will, terrified and
overwhelmed. [36] They will ask him, ‘“Who is your
Lord?” He will reply, “Ah! Ah! I don’t know.” They will
ask, “What is your religion?” He will reply, “Ah! Ah! I
don’t know” They will ask, “Who is this man that was
sent to you?” He will be unable to recall his name and
will be told that his name is Muḥammad (sall Allāhu
ʿalayhi wa sallam), and he will reply, “Ah! Ah! I don’t
know.” [37] He will be told, “You did not know, neither
did you follow those who did.” [38]
The same will be asked of the hypocrite, the person
beset with doubt. However, in answer to the questions,
he will say, “I don’t know, I just said what other people
were saying.” [39] They will say, ‘We knew you would
say this,’ [40] and he will be told, “You did not know,
neither did you follow those who did.” [41] He will then
be warned,
“In doubt did you spend your days, in
doubt did you die, and upon doubt will
you be resurrected by Allāh’s will.’ [42]
A voice will proclaim,
“My servant has lied, prepare his bed
from Hell for him, open a door to Hell
for him and clothe him in the garments
of Hell.”
He will then suffer its intense heat and inhale its
poisonous fumes, [43] and look on at the Fire. An
opening to Paradise will also open before him and he
will behold it in all its splendour and be told, “This would
have been your place had you only obeyed Allāh. Allāh
replaced this with that!” There will be no limit to the
depth of his anguish and despair. [44]
His grave will constrict and compress around him so
much that his ribs interlock, [45] and a man with an ugly
face, coarse garments and an offensive odour will come
to him and say, “I have news that will distress you for
this is your day which you have been promised.” He will
ask, “Who are you, your face is revolting and forebodes
evil?’ He will reply,
“I am your evil deeds, by Allāh, I
always found you slow to do good
deeds and quick to do evil deeds, may
Allāh reward you with evil.”
He will then cry out,
“My Lord, do not bring the last
hour!” [46]
A blind and deaf person will come to him carrying an
iron hammer; were he to hit a mountain with it, he
would pulverise it. [47] All of mankind, together would
be unable to carry it, let alone prevent it striking its
target. [48] He will strike the disbeliever with that rod,
crushing him and turning him to dust and everything
between the east and the west will hear it strike, except
for man and jinn. [49] Then his body will be returned as
it was and he will strike him again causing him to
scream in agony, the sound of which is heard by
everything except man and jinn. [50]
He will be set upon by seventy serpents, each having
seven heads which will proceed to maul him, [51] then
he will be rendered deaf, dumb and blind. [52]
Both the disbeliever and the hypocrite will be punished
until Allāh resurrects them. [53]

Allahh claimed to have deceived the people to believe that the person that died was Jesus, but allahh replaced him with another one. We know there are good muslims and there are bad ones , so do we have it in the christiandom. But when you talk about murder and terrorism , this is the foundation of Islam.

It is the right thing to condemn evil.

★Hazrat Ali (R.A.) said, Ya Rasulallah! This looks impossible. How will I be able to do it? Then the Prophet (SAWS) replied:

◆4 times reading Surah Fatiha is equivalent to 4,000 Dinars giving in Sadaqa.

◆3 times reading Surah Ikhlas (Qul hu Allahu Ahad) equals to one complete Quran.

◆3 times praying Lahaula wala kuwata illa billa hil Ali il azeem is the price of jannat.

◆10 times Astagfirullah is equals to making two unhappy people happy with each other.

◆4 times Kalematu shahadat is equals to one Hajj.

★After this Ali (R.A.) said, Ya Rasulallah (SAWS)! Now I will do all these before going to bed.

★It takes less than 5 mins for all the above zikr and look at the virtues for it? Who would not want to have all these virtues to be in their book of good deeds

It will be very nice of u if u could Pls forward this to as many Mumineen as possible coz if anyone starts doing these Aamaal then there is no doubt that you will also be rewarded for it.

Dear Rash, I have taken my time to read ur post letter to letter and word for words, line by line and post by post.As I read ur reply i see the me before, I see the passion u, the tenacity u posses to make ur point and deep knowledge u av about d bible but opposite though.

I am not telling you this so you that you will convert nope salvation is personal experience, one of the big difference btw Christian and Islam.

When I gave my life to Christ, I was rejected by family and become dejected. I was maimed and almost get been killed by my fellow Muslim brothers, was called different kinds of name. In Kaduna 2000 and 2001 Sharia, I was a target but God loves for me saves me how till today I don't know. For those who know Kaduna and know the stories of Sharia or victim will tell you that from Central market to Sabo is not a small journey but I walked tru the path, like walking tru the valley of dead but Amazing Grace Jesus showed me.

As if that was not enough in 2003 when the issue of miss world was raised, with the issue of Mohammed will love those girls, crisis burst out I was also attacked had a gun shot on me because of Christ, left in my own pool of blood how I survived was God, though I am writing a book now on my journey from religion to my relationship with God,where I planned to pour out my experience there.

All this episode is to show you when you have encounter with Christ, nothing in this world,will you trade him for because to die is Christ and live is Gain.

5…for him if he will drive fast, & he agreed,we got gisting just to while away time,then I thought of my mum & decided to give her a call..

6…She was like Baban Aisha how r u? I said mama I missed my flight bt i took a taxi,she said all d way to Lagos?& I ws like mama I had to...

7…She prayed 4 me,then I called my wife too & d 1st thing she said ws ”baby this house is dry without u,I miss u",& I said I miss u more baby

8… I said where is Aisha? Give her d phone, & there she was,Baba when r u coming bck,I told her in 3 days time in shaa Allah,dnt 4get 2go to...

9…Islamiyah my angel,& I ended d call,I became moody,I ws missing my family,d driver noticed,he smiled & we continued talking,I ws still moody

10…I ws feeling bad for no reason,d driver ws overspeeding & suddenly we had a bursted tire,we lost control,d car ws summersaulting & I was ...

11…Just reciting lailahaillah,then we hit a tree & I felt a severe pain on my head,ppl started rushing to save us,I tried getting up bt d pain

12…It became dark,I felt a pressure on my chest,I couldn't breath,then I saw a man with white beard & he said I ws dying & he came to help me

13…He wants to save me from death, so I could see my family again, he said I ws too young to die, I should believe him, he has saved a lot..

14…He asked me to believe he is God,& to renounce my faith as a Muslim else I am going to hell,I refused & kept on reciting the shahadah..

15…He tried persuading me, he tried to convince me, all he wanted was for me to declare he is God,I still refused and he was so angry...

16…he looked unto d sky & started running as if he ws afraid of something, then angels descended,he ran away,they said assalamu alaikum to me

17…I answered wa alaikum salam,they were quite holding a white cloth, I knew my end has arrived, then a very big angel descended & said...

18…Oh u blessed soul,come out unto d mercy of Allah,he removed my soul,I felt me going out of me,I heard ppl saying Innalillahi wa Inna ilaihi

19…Raji'un,I knew I was dead,they put my soul in d white cloth & we kept ascending,I ws looking left & right, I looked down &ppl,houses,cars...

20…Everything ws getting smaller, we kept going up into d clouds & above, then I heard a big sound, I looked sideways & saw a lot of angels ...

21…escorting a soul, it was full of scent & I asked who he was,they said he is a mujahid,I wished I was him,as we kept ascending,I passive a

22…Very bad smell,& I asked who he was,they said he was an idol worshipper, then we reached d 1st heaven,d angels made salam,they were answered

23…And were asked who they were with,& I ws introduced as Abdallah,a pious servant,then I asked them who those angels were,they said they are

24…The gatekeepers of the heaven & they are in charge of discharging shooting starts on the devils,I said they r indeed big,& I ws tld there re

25…Bigger angels, like Angel Jibreel and those that holding the throne of Allah, there head is in d 7th heaven & there legs in the 7th earth

26…then we reached a place called Baitul Ma'mur,& I saw a lot of angels worshipping Allah,I ws told 70 thousand angels enter there every ...

27…Day & never come bck,2mrw will be new set, we kept going on till we reached d 7th heaven, and all the angels put their heads down & said ..

37…The ppl prayed asr,I wish I cld pray with them to add to my scale of good deeds,after asr,the Imam asked every1 to wait behind & pray Janaza

38…My Janazah, it was like a film trick, so today is my turn, I was shocked, surprised, scared, I was not ready, I didn't expect death now

39…Then i saw 2 angels writing d number of ppl in attendance,then they took me to d grave,ppl were crying & praying,I ws scared,scared of grave

40…Then we reached the grave,i didn't know what I was gonna meet which totally depends on the kind of life I lived, has Allah forgiven my sins

41…Then i heard d ppl saying,bring him in,bring those leaves,untie d rope,then it downed on me,kullu nafsin za ikatul maut,reality of life

42…See me inside grave,sand everywhere,no tiles,no AC,no ajebo for grave,only ur deeds will determine,oh Allah,I wsh I cld b given a 2nd chance

43…No cars,no status, no money, no friends,no family, nobody, just me in the grave &my deeds, I really wished I spent every second in worship

44…Then they brought wood,leaves & sand, they covered me,I wish I could tell them not to leave me here,how will I spend the night here?Just how

45…Then I heard ppl praying for me,and I could hear their footsteps as they leave, my dad was the last to leave, I wish I cld say Baba pls wait

46…All of a sudden the grave started shrinking, it was pressing me so hard,as if it was gonna tear me apart,was that a welcome hug?I was scared

47…Then two angels appeared,very terrifying in appearance,one was holding a very big hammer which cld destroy a city,they had bulgy eyes

48…They shouted at me,SIT UP! Who is ur Lord? The other angel was staring at me as if if I lie I am finished, then I said my Lord is Allah

49…My body was shaking, they said WHO IS YOUR PROPHET? and I said my prophet is Muhammad (saw), WHAT IS YOUR RELIGION? and I said Islam

50…Then they said YOU HAVE PASSED THIS QUESTIONS,.... Oh u reading this, remember u can only answer this if u live a life of these answers

51…They said if I had gotten the answers wrong, they would have beaten me with that hammer that evry soul on this earth will hear me cry except

52…Humans and Jinns, and if they were to hear too,they will all faint because of fear

53…After they left I was feeling so much heat, I thought the doors of hell were opened, the heat was too much, then two angels came

55…They said Assalamu alaikum,we are here to show u ur deeds,& I said to them since I came here I have been seeing terrifying things, pls am I

56…Going to hell, they said hell or Jannah, only Allah knows that,bt knw that even if u go to hell,u'll nt be there forever since u don't ....

57…Commit Shirk, then I started crying, I said how long will I be in hell incase I go there, they said be optimistic, ur lord is most merciful

58… They said now we will show u ur sins from d day u became matured till d day u died in that accident, everything ws recorded, good or bad

59…No matter how tiny a deed was, we recorded it, Allah is always watching u,He doesn't sleep nor slumber

60…Then they said, we are starting with ur salah, if u pass that,then we move to other good deeds, if u fail that, ur other deeds are waste

61… And they said we shallnot show u ur other good deeds even after passing salah, the reason why u feel intense heat, I asked why and they

62…Said bcz u have outstanding debts,money & goods u owe to ppl, that have to be cleared b4 u can start seeing ur good deeds....

63…Then I asked them now that I am dead & some of these debts no one knows abt, what do i do? Then they said by the mercy of Allah it shall be

64…Shown to someone close 2u in dream so he pay off,or d ppl u owe will come & ask & shall be paid or they will forgive u,till then,nothing 4u

65…That was how I kept waiting, feeling the heat, sometimes I hear footsteps,new arrival,sometimes I get surprised hearing ppl discuss football

66…Or politics in the cemetery, if only they knew,they will never have even laughed again till they die...

67…My grave was dark,my good deeds were not coming cause my debts were yet to be paid,only d du'a my father & mother make comes to me as light

68…All of a sudden,i saw a light in my grave with a nice smell,I ws so happy,d light said salam alaikum, my name Suratul Mulk, I came to help u

69…You used to recite me every night, and u have memorized me,I will intercede for you, so u'll stop feeling this heat and pain,I ws so happy

70…I said to suratul mulk,the only debt I can remember is 20k for Alhaji Bala,it said no,there's 5 naira u were supposed to give buzu Mai shago

71…There's 50 naira for Mai indomie when u were in the university, there's 200 naira for the guy that irons for u,have u forgotten?

76…Alhaji Bala has been paid his 20k and upon hearing my death, most ppl I owe forgave me, that was when I started having relief, that was when

77…The deeds started coming, that was when the main questioning commenced, that was when I wish I could be given another chance to work hard

78…Oh u reading this,we have our chance now, death doesn't knock, it has no date, it comes as a surprise, we are only here to worship Allah
