Nairaland / General / F.C. Barcelona Wins First Title Of The Season. Beats Sevilla 2-1 In Super Copa. by uneeking(m): 5:44am On Aug 13, 2018
F.C. Barcelona took a giant step into the new football season in Spain by winning the very first available trophy - the Supercopa de España - by defeating Sevilla F.C. 2-1 in a very thrilling encounter played far away in Tangier, Morocco.

In a first half that was dominated by Barca, it was Sevilla that actually got the first goal through Pablo Sarabia who scored in a counter attack completely against the run of play.

As shocking as that was for the Blaugranes, it did not make them jittery as they took control of the game from then on and so, it was no real surprise when the equaliser finally came in the 42nd minute courtesy a goal from Gerard Pique.

Barca dictated the game especially on the wings where both full-backs, Jordi Alba and Nélson Semedo, constantly provided width and support for Lionel Messi and others in the attack.

The midfield was well dominated by the duo of Arthur and Sergio Busquets and that gave room for Lionel Messi to roam freely in that area of the pitch.

It was a free kick from the superstar that eventually resulted in the first goal for Barcelona as his kick hit the post and eventually bounced into the part of an alert Gerard Pique to slot home the equaliser just before the halt time mark.

The second half was somewhat more difficult for Barca as the level of physical fitness after the World Cup break started to show. It became more difficult to keep up with the pace from the first half and had to rely on Messi set pieces to create any kind of danger.

Sevilla which was evidently the fitter of the two teams at this stage became more dangerous especially on the counter with Franco Vázquez coming very close to scoring on two different occasions.

Ousamane Dembélé displayed his superb quality on the all as  he fired a rocket from outside of the box into the top corner on the 78th minute mark and gave his team the lead and some breathing space in face of the opponents' increasing pressure on the Barca defence.

Sevilla then changed formations as they brought in Ben Yedder in place of Mercato thereby playing two strikers upfront and sending all their kicks into the Barca box as they searched desperately for the equaliser.

The opportunity eventually came their way as Aleix Vidal ran into Ter Stegen inside the six-yard area and the centre referee inexplicably awarded a penalty kick against Barcelona in the very last minute of the game.

However, the Barcelona goalkeeper rose to the occasion as he saved the penalty kick taken by Ben Yedder to ensure that F.C. Barcelona went home with their first trophy of the new 2018/2019 season in style.

The line-up for this game was as follows:

Barcelona: Ter Stegen; Semedo, Piqué, Lenglet, Alba; Rafinha (Rakitic), Busquets, Arthur (Coutinho); Messi, Suárez, Dembélé (Vidal)

Goals: Piqué (42’), Dembélé (78’)

Sevilla: Vaclík; Mercado (Ben Yedder), Kjaer, Gómez; Navas, Mesa, Banega, Escudero; Sarabia (Vidal), Muriel (André Silva), Vázquez

Goal: Sarabia (9’)

Nairaland / General / F.c.barcelona Vs Sevilla F.C. In The 2018 Spanish Super Cup. by uneeking(m): 5:39am On Aug 12, 2018
F.C.Barcelona today goes up against Sevilla F.C. in a game that is essentially their very first competitive match in the 2018/2019 Spanish Football Season. Up for grabs this time around is the Prestigious Spanish Super Cup.

F.C.Barcelona are clearly the favorites to win this game but will need to be wary of their opponents who are in it purely on merit.

F.C.Barcelona this time around seem to have really done some smart work in terms of their activities on the transfer market so far and look somewhat well complimented in all the necessary departments of the team.

Even as players like Yerry Mina, Aleix Vidal, Andre Gomes, Lucas Digne and Paulinho left the team for other destinations, they have been adequately replaced by equally if not more solid players of high repute. Barca were able to acquire the services of Clement Lenglet, Arthur, Malcom and Arturo Vidal.

And very importantly, F.C.Barcelona has used the pre-season matches to properly examine the first three of those players (Arturo was signed just recently) in order to access their readiness and ability to fit in to the first team. The result has been very encouraging especially in the case of Malcom and to some extent, Arthur.

The reigning Liga and Copa del Rey champions seem quite set for the beginning of the new season as the rest of the first team squad have since returned to camp from their various holidays and have been training ahead of this game and the LaLiga matches generally.

This match will be the first one in which Barca will be playing at full strength since the end of last season. However, some players will be missing out on this game. Sergi Roberto is suspended for this game, while Denis Suárez and Carlos Aleña are both likely not going to be available. They have been replaced in the team list for this game by the new signings – Vidal, Malcom and Lenglet.

As for the opponents in today's game, Sevilla F.C., they are surely no push-overs in the Spanish and even the European Soccer circle. They even have the advantage of going into this game in a fitter shape than Barca in the sense that they have been playing competitive football for some time now (friendlies and UEFA Europa League Qualifiers) and so have no extra fat to shake off or anything like that.

Their recent results have also been quite good, although they have mostly faced lesser opponents than Barcelona. They have lost only one of their eight games (between friendlies and EL matches), and have a W6, D1, L1 record for this pre-season period.

They are also coming into this game with some revenge mission on their minds as they were defeated by Barcelona in the Copa del Rey last season (0-5) and

A very good one for Manchester United and Paul Pogba.
Nairaland / General / Jose Mourinho Descibes Paul Pogba As A "Monster". by uneeking(m): 5:29am On Aug 11, 2018
The evening yesterday at Manchester United's Old Trafford was such an "unusual" one.

Not because the Red Devils won their first match of the season but how many surprises came as a result of that win. The team beat Leicester City 2-1 in their opening game and the first one of the 2018/2019 British Premier League season.

However, considering all the drama that had preceded the game especially as fa as the transfer issues were concerned, no one was really sure what was going to happen.

Anyone who tells you that he or she expected Jose Mourinho to be heaping praises on a Paul Pogba and or Luke Shaw so openly at the end of the game must only be lying to you or playing on your intelligence.

But Friends, that is exactly what transpired yesterday evening at the Old Trafford.

As a matter of fact, Jose Mourinho described Paul Pogba as a "Monster" (positive one of course) after the player surprisingly put in a strong showing in Manchester United’s Premier League opener against Leicester City just four days after returning to training.

He had been allowed to rest this long due to his 2018 World Cup exploits where he helped his country France to win the Mundial.

He only just returned to Manchester United on Monday and it was also a little bit of a surprise to see him thrown straight into the game right from the beginning of this match.

He not only started the game but did so as the team captain! And within three minutes of the game, his name was already on the score sheet! Albeit through a well converted penalty.

Pogba surprised everyone including the doubting Jose Mourinho with not just his strong showing in the centre of the pitch but also his ability to perform at such a high standard for a whole 80 minuted despite not having taken part in the pre-season matches and preparations.

And that of course, caught Mr. Mourinho "off-guard". The gaffer had the following to say after the thrilling encounter:

“Of course the boys with the proper pre-seasons, they were in much better condition,” Mourinho said.

“[Luke] Shaw, Andreas Pereira, [Eric] Bailly, [Matteo] Darmian, they were comfortable to play 90 mins. The others were fantastic.

“[Marcus] Rashford was in trouble, but he played. Pogba was a monster. We thought [he could play a] maximum 60 minutes, but he managed 80.

“Then Romelu Lukaku and Marouane Fellaini were available to try to help the team. It was a fantastic spirit, and there were periods of very good football.

“In the periods Leicester were stronger we played as a team and coped well.”

As for those who were surprised to see Pogba in action again so soon after his post-World Cup break, Mourinho said it was not a difficult decision to play him because Pogba said he was ready. He then added:

F.C. Everton surely deserves an applause for their achievements in this transfer window.
Nairaland / General / Everton Successfully Went Shopping At F.C. Barcelona. by uneeking(m): 6:45am On Aug 10, 2018
Yes, you read that title right.

F.C. Everton, not Manchester United and certainly not Manchester City or Liverpool is the team that deserved a whole lot of applause as the transfer window closed for the British Premier League teams yesterday. As a matter of fact, this team successfully completed the signing of three solid players just before the 5 p.m. deadline.

The Everton Management really deserves some applause from the rest of the house for achieving what must be one of the biggest coup in their history as they not only signed Yerry Mina, Andres Gomes (both from the Spanish soccer giants - F.C. Barcelona- but laso got Bernard for free!

Yerry Mina's case in particular was a real surprise as he was on radar of teams like Manchester United and Paris Saint-Germain but ended up at Everton after signing a five-year deal for a fee potentially rising to €31.75milllion.

The Colombian defender who shone brilliantly for his country at the just concluded World Cup Competition in Russia was signed by F.C. Barcelona only seven months ago but has had to play very few games since he is rated third in the pecking order behind the likes of Samuel Umtiti and Gerard Pique in the central defence department at the Nou Camp side.

It was even difficult for his team mate, Andres Gomes to get playing time at Barca with the team's midfield department so crowded with talented stars and so it was a good move for him to move to Everton even if only for a season-long loan spell at Goodison Park, which will cost the Toffees €2.25million.

Sometime back in March, having endured consistent criticism for failing to live up to his previous form while at Valencia, the 25-year-old described his stay so far at Barcelona as “a kind of hell”, admitting he had struggled with depression.

F.C. Barcelona however was smart enough to include a buy-back clause in the deal for Yerry Mina who revealed that the chance to play alongside Gomes and Lucas Digne – who made the same switch last week – played a part in his decision to join F.C. Everton. He told pressmen that:

“It is important that the club want to fight for something. This is why I am here,”

“I spoke to Lucas and he told me all about the club, which also made me keen to come here.

“I spoke with Andre, too. He is a good guy and we want to do our best for Everton.”

When it came to the turn of Andres Gomes to speak, he simply  added:

“I’m delighted to sign for this fantastic club – it’s a good day for me. Everton always was a big option for me, especially after speaking with the coach, Marco Silva.

“Every discussion we’ve had was very important in making me feel his confidence about my game. Everybody in Portugal knows how Marco Silva works and his abilities as a coach.”

This is wishing F.C. Everton a very successful campaign in this year's British Premiership League. They surely have shown that they deserve it the way they handled their recruitment exercise in the just concluded transfer window.

Jose Mourinho for now is surely not smiling. Maybe later in the evening sometime after 5 p.m.
Nairaland / General / Jose Mourinho And The Manchester United Transfer Matters. by uneeking(m): 1:27pm On Aug 09, 2018
Jose Mourinho as we know him, is a person who does not hide his feelings especially when things are not going the way he wants them to go. That is the situation he has found himself in at Manchester United in this transfer period which grinds to a halt for Premier League teams this evening.

Only this morning, the Manchester United Manager told newsmen that he is no longer expecting any new arrivals at the club before the 5 p.m. deadline.

Of course, only those who know very little about Manchester United and Jose Mourinho will believe such a statement. The real question is "Which of the players whose names have been on the wish-list of Mourinho will eventually be signed before the deadline?

What happens also will depend to a large extent on whether the club will allow Paul Pogba to move on to F.C. Barcelona as that will surely free up some much needed funds to acquire the services of some solid players still available in the market. It is no secret that Mourinho will not stand in the way of Pogba's sale as the relationship between the duo is no longer as good as it was.

When the Manager was asked by the possibilities of new signings, he simply replied:

”Signings? The information I have is no. I'm not confident. I’m not confident as the market closes today so it is time at least for me to stop thinking about the market because the market will be closed. So I will have to focus on the players I have and in relation to this the first couple of matches, maybe three matches because after Spurs there is national team and a couple of weeks to recover people and prepare people better.”

Well yes, that is what he had to say but how many people believe all that? Let's take a look at the situation on ground and as it stands as well as the possible signings Manchester United will manage to make before 5 p.m. today.

As far as we are concerned at Uneekomunikations, Harry Maguire is one player that may just end up in the Red Devils' camp at the end of today. Yes it is true that Leicester is ready to do everything to keep their prized asset but then we all know that when a club like Manchester United comes calling, it is always difficult for lower placed teams to be able to hold their own firmly enough to deny them their wishes.

Finally, Real Madrid and Chelsea reach an agreement on Thibaut Courtois. We can all rest now.
Nairaland / General / Real Madrid Signs 2018 World Cup Golden Gloves Winner Thibaut Courtois. by uneeking(m): 12:21am On Aug 09, 2018
The deal is done and dusted. Just like we have been writing and believing for some days now, it is finally official that the 2018 World Cup Competition Golden Gloves Winner, Thibaut Courtois is now an authentic Real Madrid player.

The European Champions finally concluded negotiations with Chelsea to ensure the move finally ends one of the most drawn-out transfer challenges of this summer's window.

Real Madrid had for sometime now shown a serious interest in acquiring the services of Thibaut Courtois and the player himself never hid his interest in leaving Chelsea to move on to Madrid. Hear what he had to say on the issue at a stage:

"Back to Madrid? My children are very important to me, I've always said that, and they live there."

And so, it was always very likely that the goalkeeper would surely move over to Spain. But the story end there? No!

The other side of this story is that even though Thibaut Courtois may have been promised the number one spot between the posts at Madrid, Manager Julen Lopetegui surely has a new problem to sort out as the current World Best Goalkeeper arrives Madrid.

The fact remains that Real Madrid now has four goalkeepers vying for three spots therefore meaning that one of them will have to find himself another employer somewhere else.

That should not be a problem for the erstwhile number one goalkeeper at Madrid, Keylor Navas who manned the sticks as the team won the last three Champions League crowns.

But then there is a Kiko Casilla who will have to be contented as the number three goalkeeper and making him effectively a spectator in that department of the defence. He may just be the one to look elsewhere for active participation in the game.

Of course, there is another new arrival at the club in person of Andriy Lunin. In his own case he is just 19 and will likely be loaned out to another team so as to gain some experience to help him develop into a better goalkeeper.

Time shall surely tell how well the Real Madrid Manager is able to sort out this new challenge as the team welcomes Thibaut Courtois to their fold.

The "soccer wizard" Hazard is back at work.
Nairaland / General / Chelsea Defeats Lyon On Penalties After A Goalless Drawn Match. by uneeking(m): 6:49am On Aug 08, 2018
The game between Chelsea F.C. and Lyon ended in a goalless draw at full time and duly went into penalty kicks session that produced an unexpected hero - no, not Thibaut Cortois, no, not the second goalkeeper, yes, yes, that one who goes by the name Robert Green.

Even though he is Chelsea's third-choice goalkeeper, this guy has shown that the ones ahead of him will have to sit up or else, will face the unavoidable consequences.

Robert Green and eventually, "football wizard" Hazard who took his team's last penalty became joint heroes of a match that was a beauty to watch as both teams put in some excellent displays of soccer artistry that you will hardly find in a friendly game of this nature.

The Chelsea Manager, Sarri made 11 changes from the team that slumped to 0-2 defeat at the hands (or legs) of Manchester City just a few days back in the Community Shield match and this of course paid off as we saw a more familiar Chelsea side do their thing.

Interestingly, the Manager gave the Captain's Armband to Willian for this game and the player surely did not disappoint as he was virtually everywhere. Let's not forget in a hurry that he almost ended up in Barcelona's Nou Camp just a few days' back.

Mr. Sarri is possibly compensating him for staying on at Chelsea, who knows? Is it also a message to the other two Chelsea "tooth-aches"? I am very sure that I did not mention anyone's name here.

Robert Green actually actually came into the game as a substitute goalkeeper. The first choice for that position in this game was Academy Prospect Marcin Bulka.

There was yet another positive for Chelsea from this game as Ruben Loftus-Cheek showed his desire to be considered for a first-team role under Sarri this season especially in the early minutes of the game with his deft touches and powerful runs in a first half that was not so good for his team. The other notable player for Chelsea at that stage was Willian with his solid work rate.

It was therefore a very welcome development as Manager Sarri made some changes later on, bringing in N'Golo Kante as well as Jorginho and Ross Barkley to a big applause from the Chelsea  fans and even those of Lyon.

These changes naturally immediately improved Chelsea's performance on the pitch with the combination of Jorginho and Kante forcing a good save from Lopes after a perfectly-timed run into the box by Kante was rewarded by an incisive pass from Chelsea's marquee summer signing.

Then came another change by Sarri. This one drew a bigger applause from the crowd as "wizard" Hazard was introduced into the game in the 68th minute. The Captain's Armband of course found a new owner and the Lyon defence a more serious problem on its hands.

They were however able to hold their own against the now rampaging Chelsea side as the game eventually drifted towards a penalty shootout, the third in Chelsea's three ICC games.

The penalty kicks can be described as spectacular ones from both sides until Green saved from Diop and Hazard nervelessly converted the final kick to ensure victory.

It is finally official. The long awaited debut for Cristiano Ronaldo at his new club, Juventus F.C. of Turin will be in the game against Chievo on Saturday, August 18.

It gets even better as the game will now be streamed live for free on Facebook by broadcasters Eleven Sports.

The broadcasters will also go on to show at least one match per week on their UK Facebook page as owners of exclusive UK broadcast rights for both Serie A and La Liga this season.

In a recent interview, the Eleven Sports group managing director Danny Menken had this to say:

"By making Facebook our free-to-air partner, we are giving our leading content centre stage projection, opening it up to new and diverse audiences, and confirming again our innovative leadership in the global sports media industry."

"We want to serve fan communities and develop interaction and engagement around our content, while ensuring we are always accessible and easy to reach."

"Our unique free-to-air partnership with Facebook helps us to do this as part of our fresh and contemporary approach to distribution."

Eleven Sports will also make it possible for fans to be able to watch the Valencia against Atletico Madrid match on August 20 as the LaLiga season kicks off and by the following weekend, it will be the turn of Valladolid against Barcelona.

Football is surely taking a different dimension these days as more and more innovations keep creeping into the sport.

Jose Mourinho not ready for any jokes this time around.
Nairaland / General / Jose Mourinho And The Manchester United Transfer Saga. by uneeking(m): 2:40pm On Aug 06, 2018
One does not need a prophet to tell him or her that Jose Mourinho is not particularly a happy man these few days. He has not tried to hide that fact himself and anyone who knows the man well will not be surprised at the least.

Thursday is the deadline for the transfer window in England and the Manager is not happy that his team has not done enough transfer deals. Yes, it is true that the club were able to bring in Brazil midfielder Fred, Portuguese full-back Diogo Dalot and third-choice goalkeeper Lee Grant.

However, Jose Mourinho wants two more players because as far as he is concerned, he told the Manchester Management months back that he needed five new players so they could prepare ahead of time but that has not yet come to pass. This is what the Manager who is going into his third season at the club had to say about the issue:

“My CEO [Ed Woodward] has known what I want for quite a long time. He knows what I want.” “I know that he tries his best for me. I still have a few days to wait to see what is going to happen.”

So if Manchester United are to get two more players before the end of the transfer window on Thursday, who will it be?

A number of names have been linked to Manchester United transfer options of late but the most prominent ones for now are: Willian (Chelsea), Ivan Perisic (Inter Milan), Harry Maguire (Leicester City) and Toby Alderweireld (Tottenham Hotspurs). Time shall surely tell which of these players get to be signed to join the Red Devils in the next few days.

Nairaland / General / Bayern Munich 1-0 Manchester United. by uneeking(m): 4:50am On Aug 06, 2018
Manchester United suffered a 1-0 defeat against Bayern Munich in their last pre-season game as Javi Martinez scored the winner for the German champions. He scored the goal through a header that came from a corner kick in the 59th minute of the game.

The outcome of this game was somewhat predictable as Manchester United had challenges in form of many injured players while some others are still yet to return from their World Cup break.

Of course, Jose Mourinho did feature the strongest possible line-up of players available in the squad as Alexis Sanchez captained the team for this game. Marcus Rashford who recently returned from holiday was also in the starting line-up.

Bayern were not left behind in this as they also had a strong line-up that featured the likes of Manuel Neuer, Thiago, Arjen Robben, Franck Ribery and Thomas Muller to the delight of the fans.

David de Gea surely had a very busy time in the opening minutes of the game as the two Bayern wingers in Ribery and Robben were causing the defence of Manchester United all sorts of problems very early on. This trend continued for most part of the game  with United continuing with their dogged defensive display.

The breakthrough for the German team came in the 59th minute when Martinez rose highest in the box to head home from a corner. Bayern Munich held on to their one-goal lead till the end of the game with Manchester United posing little or no threat.

Now that the new Premier League season is just a few days away, Jose Mourinho will surely now focus on Friday’s Premier League opener against Leicester while hoping to have a good number of his first-team stars back to training.

The fans at Old Trafford will surely be expecting the good old United back on track as they try to secure the very first three points of the new season and go top of the table even if temporarily.

Who will win this important match?
Nairaland / General / Manchester City Vs Chelsea In Community Shield Face-off. by uneeking(m): 1:51pm On Aug 05, 2018
The die is cast for this afternoon (for those of you in Africa and Europe) at 3 p.m. as FA Cup winners Chelsea face  Premier League Champions Manchester City in the Community Shield Cup match-up. The venue as usual is the Wembley Stadium.

Ahead of this important match, good news seem to be filtering in for the Manchester side as two players who were injured have made recoveries faster than expected and there are hints they may even feature at some stage of this curtain-raiser to the new Premier League season.

The two players in question are Riyad Mahrez and Benjamin Mendy.

Mahrez picked up  an ankle injury in his new team's pre-season win over Bayern Munich. He was expected to miss the early stages of the new season but the  £60m summer signing from Leicester City has made such stunning recovery that he has even been cleared fit for today's game if reports reaching us from Man City are anything to go by.

A few days back Man City issued a statement that read:

"A scan today has revealed no significant damage, and he could be available for selection for this weekend’s Community Shield against Chelsea."

As for Benjamin Mendy, he had been injured since September last year and has been recuperating since then. He was fit enough to play in a U23 game against Manchester United earlier this week and so is expected to be in the City line-up today depending on the Manager's decision. The player is quite happy to be back and fit as he had this to say:

"It's a good feeling to touch the ball in a real game. Against United is a good game for my first game back after my injury.

"We are football players so we know we can have a lot of injuries. I’ve had one before (a long injury), but now it’s OK.

"I was out for a long time, so it was difficult, but with my family and friends, with a team like this, everything was OK.

"For my first game, my body felt good and my knee. I played and I enjoyed it."

Chelsea are not completely left out of the good news corner.

For starters, Ruben Loftus-Cheek has returned to full Chelsea training after taking a well deserved rest at the end of his participation at the just concluded 2018 FIFA World Cup Competition in Russia. He is likely to feature in today's game at Wembley.

Then there is the case of Chelsea's new signing, Jorginho who could be making his debut for the Blues in this game. It will be recalled that this player actually turned down the chance to join Man City as he preferred linking up with his former Manager at Napoli, Sarri who had moved to Chelsea.

Of course, there is the issue of the players who may be leaving the team still - the trio of Hazard, Courtois and Willian. The Manager was asked about the current state of affairs concerning them and this is what he had to say:

"I don't know. It depends on the club. For me, it is a pleasure to have Courtois, to have Willian, to have Hazard, but it doesn't depend on me. We have to wait.

"I have confidence. Face to face? At the end of the month. Because they will arrive at Cobham at the end of the month."

When asked about his team's possible line-up for today's game, the Mangaer said:

“Cesc doesn’t have a serious injury. I don’t know if he will be able to play on Sunday but it’s nothing serious. Maybe the starting 11 will be very near to the last match. But maybe something different can happen, I don’t know. Tomorrow morning I will decide.”

So, who wins this important match?

Nairaland / General / Ac Milan Gets A Last-minute Victory Over Second String F.c. Barcelona In Icc. by uneeking(m): 6:25am On Aug 05, 2018
AC Milan defeated F.C. Barcelona by a lone goal scored in the added time period by Andre Silva  in an International Champions Cup match played on Sunday.

As has been the case with the Barcelona Manager in this pre-season games, he fielded a second string team without the likes of Lionel Messi, Luis Suarez, Ivan Rakitic, Sergio Busquets, Gerard Pique, Ousmane Dembele, Jordi Alba, Samuel Umtiti and Philippe Coutino.

On the other hand, he once again gave the Brazilian newcomers Arthur and Malcom an opportunity to showcase what they have in stock.

The most recent signing, Arturo Vidal is of course yet to fully link up up with the rest of the squad as he has only just signed for the Catalan soccer giants and still has to say his "Good-Byes" at his former club, Bayern Munich.

The game played at the Levi’s Stadium in Carlifonia had Barca completely dominating the first half without a goal to show for their efforts and this trend continued in the second half. The closest they came to scoring was when Malcom hit the post in that superlative first half display.

Then came another chance to score as Barca had penalty appeals for an apparent stamp by Rodriguez on Rafinha but were ignored by referee Baldomero Toledo.

Just as most of the fans were preparing themselves for yet another penalty shoot-out, Franck Kessie was able to somehow find some space to square the ball to Andre Silva who made no mistake in slotting the ball past Marc-Andre ter Stegen at the near post to secure an unlikely win for the Gennaro Gattuso’s men with the very last kick of the game in the 92nd minute.

F.C. Barcelona will surely be looking totally different in composition in their next game when they confront Sevilla in the Supercopa de Espana in a few day's time.

Nairaland / General / Re: Be Wise And Accept Real Madrid's Offer - Courtois' Agent To Chelsea Management. by uneeking(m): 2:35pm On Aug 04, 2018
"A word is enough for the wise", this agent seems to be saying.
Nairaland / General / Be Wise And Accept Real Madrid's Offer - Courtois' Agent To Chelsea Management. by uneeking(m): 2:31pm On Aug 04, 2018
The Thibaut Courtois transfer to Real Madrid issue is surely taking a different dimension of late as the goalkeeper's agent has come out to advise Chelsea Management to accept the "reasonable" offer for the goalkeeper's transfer made by the European Champions.

He went on to warn the club that it risks losing the services of the goalkeeper for free if his wish to leave is not granted now. It is not a secret that the 26-year-old Courtois has just a year to go on his contract with the "Blues" but has seemingly decided to leave Chelsea before that time.

The goalkeeper has come out to say that wants to join the Real Madrid in order to be closer to his children, who live in Madrid.

This is what his agent had to say on the issue only recently:

“I have been reading everywhere that Chelsea are saying it is up to Thibaut, but he has made it clear to the club that the best option for him is to move to Madrid,” Henrotay told The Sun.

“For him this is a big decision because he wants to be near his family, and there is an offer in place for Chelsea to accept.

“We have seen suggestions that it is about money and it is true he could get an increase with a move. But he has turned down a better offer elsewhere because this is more than a financial decision.”

To make matters worse, the goalkeeper has not returned to the team since the conclusion of the 2018 World Cup Competition in Russia where he bagged the tournament's Golden Gloves award.

This situation has naturally unsettled the new Chelsea Manager, Maurizio Sarri who has now admitted that he was unsure if Courtois, who is yet to feature in any pre-season game for the team, would return to the club.

The goalkeeper's agent had the following to say further:

“Throughout this it has been important for everyone to be reasonable, and the buying club has come up with a reasonable offer for a player who has one year left on his contract when they know they could sign him without a fee in 12 months,” he said.

“Chelsea could get a fair fee for him now and sign a replacement. Or they would still have to sign a replacement next summer, but without getting a fee for Thibaut.”

Nairaland / General / Toby Alderweireld Determined To Join Manchester United. by uneeking(m): 3:28pm On Aug 03, 2018
Manchester United are known to be in search of a solution their central defence challenges  - an area of the team that proved to be their Achilles Heel in the last season.

In their bid to solve this problem, they contacted F.C. Barcelona and Yerry Mina to see if they can secure his services and seem to have agreed terms with Barca to achieve their aim.

That however is not enough for Manchester United as the club has continued to chase the likes of Leicester City’s Harry Maguire and of course, Alderweireld who is presently on the payroll of Tottenham Hotspurs.

Despite rumours in certain quarters that the Tottenham defender is quite favourably disposed towards a move to Old Trafford, it is almost impossible for a deal to be agreed on in this transfer window.

The main obstacle to the player  joining Manchester United is the  £75m price tag placed on him by his present employers - Tottenham Hotspurs.

The player reportedly has decided to snub all other offers in favour of a move to Old Trafford and is even ready to run his contract down over the next 12 months if that need arises. The challenge is not in Tottenham refusing to sell but in their refusal to lower their £75m price tag placed on the player.

F.C. Barcelona on the prowl. Everybody on alert!
Nairaland / General / F.C. Barcelona Agree Arturo Vidal Fee With Bayern Munich. Hunts For Paul Pogba by uneeking(m): 8:44am On Aug 03, 2018
If you thought that F.C. Barcelona was done in this pre-season's transfer market, you must be seriously mistaken as the club has gone on to ruffle some more feathers after the infamous "Malcom Hijack" episode.
For a start, the Spanish soccer giants have virtually concluded the signing of Arturo Vidal after reportedly reaching an agreement with Bayern Munich.

According to reliable sources in the Spanish media, both clubs have agreed on a fee of around €30m (£26.7m) and the player is understood to have  also reached a verbal agreement with Barcelona.

This is despite the fact that top European clubs such as Manchester United and Chelsea have been on Arturo's trail in recent months.

F.C. Barcelona came into the picture just about a week back and have already seemingly reached a positive outcome with both player and club.

The player is expected to go to the Nou Camp for his medicals in the next few days.

The Paul Pogba Angle.

F.C. Barcelona has also emerged as a surprise suitor for the services of Paul Pogba.

The club is planning to hand the Manchester United player Andres Iniesta's old shirt number if he agrees to come to F.C. Barcelona. That is how serious the club is in its quest to lure the France international from ManU.

Nairaland / General / Is Yerry Mina Close To Barcelona Exit? by uneeking(m): 8:28pm On Aug 02, 2018
If reports reaching our News Desk is anything to go by, then Yerry Mina might just be soon on his way to Manchester United from F.C. Barcelona.

It is not news that that the defender, a former Palmeiras centre-back who moved to F.C. Barcelona only in January, has not been able to secure a space in the first team line-up of the Spanish Soccer Giants.

In the few games he was given an opportunity to show what he is capable of, he was not able to live up to the coaches' expectations.

However to the surprise of many fans, the young defender showed a different side of himself during the just concluded 2018 FIFA World cUp Competition in Russia in the colours of his country, Colombia as he not only put up superlative defensive performances but even went on to score some decisive goals for his team.

This performance has not escaped the notice of some European top club's scouts and managers as some of them are now jostling to secure his release from F.C. Barcelona.

Nairaland / General / Lucas Digne Leaves F.C. Barcelona For Everton. by uneeking(m): 4:51pm On Aug 01, 2018
Good News for fans of Everton F.C. and the British Premier League.

Information reaching our News Desk has it that the transfer of Lucas Digne from F.C. Barcelona to Everton F.C is a done deal. The English team have now officially confirmed the deal after some weeks of uncertainty.

Even though the Everton Management have not been particularly busy on the transfer market this summer, they have been secretly working hard behind the scenes to land the Barca defender who they believe will bring some stability to the teams defence line.

This they believe, will help in their quest to force their way back into European competition this coming season.

Digne is moving to Everton after failing to stamp down a place for himself in the Barcelona starting line-up. This switch is expected to help him get more playing time and put his football career back on track as quickly as possible.

It will be recalled that the player was signed by F.C. Barcelona sometime in 2016 after spending some time at Paris Saint-Germain and then a loan spell with AS Roma.

The 25-year-old defender will be joining the Premier League team on a five-year deal that is believed to be worth around £18 million, although that could eventually rise to £20 million depending on some other factors.
