Nairaland / General / Francesco Totti Believes Lionel Messi Is The Best Player In The World. by uneeking(m): 2:21pm On Dec 28, 2017
Lightening hardly strikes at the same spot twice. Whenever it

does, there is something special happening.

Earlier today, we brought to you the news that had Eden Hazard proclaiming Lionel Messi as the present World's Best Football Player. As if that was not enough blow to the Cristiano Ronaldo supporters, another soccer great who goes by the name of Francesco Totti has affirmed Eden Hazard's view.

Below is what he had to say about this:

Francesco Totti believes Lionel Messi is the best player in the world despite Cristiano Ronaldo pulling level on five Ballons d'Or apiece earlier this month.

Real Madrid's dual LaLiga and Champions League triumphs last season set Ronaldo up to claim world football's premier individual prize but Messi has also blazed a familiarly impressive trail.

The mercurial Argentinian inspired a 3-0 win for Barca at the Santiago Bernabeu last Saturday, with Ronaldo a largely becalmed presence in the latest edition of El Clasico.

Totti was a similarly adored figure during a superb playing career at Roma that spanned three decades.

Although he now sees events such as Neymar's world-record move from Barcelona to Paris Saint-Germain as an example of football breaking distastefully with its past, the former Italy forward is happy to marvel at the two greats of this generation.

"I really preferred the football of a long time ago. Today it is just crazy," he said at the Dubai International Sports Conference.

"Football has deeply changed between my time and now. I prefer the romantic football of before, now it is all about business.

"There are players like Ronaldo and Neymar, but Neymar is an example of this big price, it is too much to pay €250m for a player. This goes beyond reality.

"But Messi is number one, just don't tell Cristiano!"

Nairaland / General / #peoples’ President Of Nigeria# by uneeking(m): 7:32am On Dec 23, 2017
As the Peoples’ President of Nigeria, I will ensure that the current fuel crisis is not just nipped in the bud now but will also put measures in place to ensure they never occur again.

I will ensure that each truck that loads fuel from the depots have their details, destination and so on announced daily on major television and radio stations across Nigeria. They will be followed by special military monitoring teams to their destinations. Before their arrival, there shall be at least two plain clothes SS men waiting to confirm delivery and sales of the fuel.

Both the military convoys and the SS men will report to me directly. They shall also right at the beginning of the exercises sign a letter of instant dismissal from office if found colluding with the companies they are monitoring in any way.

On the other hand, they will get extra remunerations if found to have dutifully performed their tasks. This money shall come from fines imposed on erring fuel marketers.

Erring fuel marketers shall be fined the total cost of the fuel loaded from the depots if found wanting in any way. They shall also have their licences suspended for nothing less than six months.

Nairaland / General / Real Madrid Vs Barcelona 2017 by uneeking(m): 5:37am On Dec 22, 2017
It is surely going to another thriller of a football match when this year’s El-Classico first leg kicks off at the Bernabeu Stadium as F.C. Real Madrid hosts F.C. Barcelona.

Both teams are no strangers to one another and the game promises to be as explosive as ever with both sides parading some of the very best players in the world as well as the present best two who have been sharing the title of the World’s Best Footballer between themselves for some five consecutive years now.

F.C. Barcelona leads on the LaLiga Table comfortably at the moment with ten points separating them from their perennial rivals. They not only have a convincing position in LaLiga, but also put up a strong group stage performance in the Champions League as well as victories in the Copa del Rey.

One major secret to their success this time around is the fact that the team has improved a lot in their defensive play which had been a problem spot for them in recent years. They are presently not only scoring goals as is usual with the team but very importantly, also not conceding much any longer.

The secret to this has been based on two pillars: their strong centre-back pairing as well as Ter Stegen’s brilliant form. The German is enjoying his best season since moving to F.C. Barcelona.

Real Madrid on the other hand started poorly in this season’s LaLiga but have since picked up in form as they have recently been firing on all cylinders as well with a 5-0 drubbing of F.C. Sevilla of all teams followed by their recent successful defence of the their title at Club World Cup Competition a few days back.

All of that means that this match is surely going to be more keenly contested than the last meeting between both teams and the fans as well as LaLiga will surely be the winners of this match.

If I were to be the President of Nigeria, I will ensure that the country’s constitution be amended to include the following in the appropriate section;

“Anyone aspiring to be a President, Governor and Local Government Chairman MUST sign a statement which states that “He or She agrees NEVER to propose or execute any new project until all the hitherto uncompleted ones have been completed, no matter who or which party started them.” He or She must also sign a statement accepting an immediate removal from office without any delay if found wanting in this regard.

Nairaland / General / Champions League Draw Round 16. by uneeking(m): 4:02am On Dec 12, 2017
The much-awaited Round 16 Draws for the 2017/2018 UEFA Champions’ League Competition has finally be done and this is what they look like.
See Pairings @ http://uneekomunikations.com/uneekomunikations-champions-league-draw-round-16/

With what I see in the table, at least two British Premier League teams are on their way out of the competition. The most glaring case of course, is that of Chelsea F.C. as they have been paired against “almighty” F.C. Barcelona who are presently firing on all cylinders despite the loss of Neymar to PSG.

However, the most explosive of the pairings is surely that of high-spending Paris Saint-Germain and the competition’s defending champions, Real Madrid.

This will surely be a clash of football titans as both teams are loaded with stars that can hold their own against any team any day.

Nairaland / General / Re: Uneekomunikations – Cristiano Ronaldo Wins The 2017 Ballon D´or. by uneeking(m): 4:58am On Dec 08, 2017
Congratulations to CR7. He surely deserved this trophy.
Nairaland / General / Uneekomunikations – Cristiano Ronaldo Wins The 2017 Ballon D´or. by uneeking(m): 4:54am On Dec 08, 2017
Cristiano Ronaldo got the better of Lionel Messi once again this year as he won the 2017 Ballon d´Or.

Of course, it was clear that the successes recorded by Real Madrid was surely going to give their talisman a good edge over his rival as he had helped the team to the LaLiga title and very importantly to defend the UEFA Champions’ League title for the first time in the competition’s history.

On the other hand, Lionel Messi and his F.C. Barcelona had the Copa del Rey trophy as the only silver ware they won last year. Messi however on a personal note won the Golden Boot Award for the last season.

With Cristiano Ronaldo’s latest win, he has now equalled Lionel Messi’s Ballon d’Or record as both now have five of those titles to their names.

Both players notably have dominated the World’s Best Players Awards for the past ten years now virtually breaking all available records in individual soccer awards.

Nairaland / General / EUFA Champions’ League Results For 6th December, 2017. by uneeking(m): 6:43am On Dec 07, 2017
The UEFA Champions’ League matches played yesterday just like those of the day before produced some real unexpected results as a team like Sevilla had to really struggle against Maribor before getting a draw.

Then there was the game between Feyenoord and Napoli in which the home team prevailed over the favourites from Italy.

Even Real Madrid struggled to just edge out a depleted Borussia Dortmund at the Bernabeu.

Here below are all the results of the matches played yesterday;

Maribor 1 – 1 Sevilla
Liverpool 7 – 0 Spartak Moskva
Feyenoord 2 – 1 Napoli
Shakhtar Donetsk 2 – 1 Manchester City
RB Leipzig 1 – 2 Beşiktaş
Porto 5 – 2 Monaco

Nairaland / General / Results Of The Champions League Matches For 5th December 2017. by uneeking(m): 6:56am On Dec 06, 2017
It was surely a night of mixed feelings yesterday as some traditional top teams in the Champions’ League fell by the way side while some others made their way through to the next round.

Probably the biggest casualties is the Athletico Madrid who had hitherto gotten used to playing right up to the semi-finals stage of the competition. They finished four points behind leaders Roma and runners-up Chelsea.

In other games played, almighty PSG got thrashed by Bayern Munich with Lewandoski and a certain Corentin Tolisso (got a brace in that match) doing the damage. Kylian Mbappe pulled one back for PSG.

The results for the rest of the matches are as follows;

Champions League – Group A
Benfica 0 – 2 Basel

Manchester United 2 – 1 CSKA Moscow

Champions League – Group B
Bayern Munich 3 – 1 Paris Saint Germain

Celtic 0 – 1 Anderlecht

Champions League – Group C
Chelsea 1 – 1 Atletico Madrid

Roma 1 – 0 Qarabag FK

Champions League – Group D
Barcelona 2 – 0 Sporting CP

Olympiacos 0 – 2 Juventus

Nairaland / General / 15 Reasons Why Libyan Ex-president Ghadaffi Was The Best President In Africa. by uneeking(m): 6:53am On Dec 05, 2017
A Nigerian Facebook user named Cyril Asede came up with this post and I think it is worth taking a look at.

AFRICANS AND THEIR MYOPIC MINDS
Muamar Gaddafi’s Prophecies:
“I will not go into exile to any foreign country. I was born here in Libya, and I will die here. This country was a desert, and I turned it into a forest, where everything can grow. No one Love this land more more than its citizens.

If Europe and America tells you that they love you, be careful. They love the wealth of your land. The oil and not the people. They are helping you to fight against me but it will be more wise for you to fight against them because they are fighting against your future and progress.

My message to you the people of Libya is, they are helping you to kill me but you will pay the price because you will suffer. And my message to you America and Europe is, you will kill me, but be ready to fight a never ending TERRORISM. Before you realise your ignorance, terrorists will be hitting you at your doorstep.”

Gaddafi only erred in my opinion when he once told the Nigerian and British governments to divide Nigeria into two, so that the Hausa/Fulani (Moslems), Yoruba (Christians) and Biafrans/Igbo, can live as neighbouring countries.

16 REAL REASONS WHY COL. GADDAFI WAS KILLED:
1. There is no electricity bill in Libya, electricity is free for all its citizens.

2. There is no interest on loans, banks in Libya are state-owned and loans given to all its citizens are at a 0% interest by law.

3. Home is considered a human right in Libya. Gaddafi vowed that his parents would not get a house until everyone in Libya had a home.

4. All newlyweds in Libya receive $60,000 Dinars (US$50,000) from the government to buy their first apartment.

5. Education and medical treatments are free in Libya. Before Gaddafi, only 25% of Libyans were literates. Today, the figure stands at 83%.

6. Libyans taking up farming as a career, they received farm land, a farming house, equipment, seeds and livestock to kick- start their farms – all for free.

7. If Libyans cannot find the education or medical facilities they needed in Libya, the government funded them to go abroad for it.

8. In Gaddafi’s Libya, if a Libyan buys a car, the government subsidized 50% of the price.

9. The price of petrol in Libya is $0. 14 per liter.

10. Libya has no external debt and its reserves amount to $150 billion – now frozen globally.

11. If a Libyan is unable to get employment after graduation, the state would pay the average salary of the profession as if he or she is employed until employment is found.

12. A portion of Libyan oil sale is credited directly to the bank accounts of all Libyan citizens.

13. A mother who gave birth to a child under Gaddafi, received US $5,000 as child benefit upfront….

14. 40 loaves of bread in Libya costs $ 0.15 Cents.

15. 25% of Libyans have a university degree.

16. Gaddafi carried out the world’s largest irrigation project, known as the Great Man-Made River Project, to make water readily available throughout the desert country.

If this is called “Dictatorship”, I wonder what type of leadership Democrats have!!
Please Share this in memory Muammar Gaddafi, Africa’s greatest and most accomplished leader if you believe Gaddafi is a hero.

If you thought that the euphoria that followed the qualification of Nigeria’s Super Eagles has died down, then you can be sure that you know very little about Nigeria and the undying spirit of its citizens.

Let’s take the example of the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) President Amaju Pinnick himself. This amiable gentleman has come out to say that most countries who qualified for the 2018 FIFA World Cup do not want to be drawn in the same group with the Super Eagles of Nigeria.

Can you beat that?

He made this statement as all soccer-loving people from all over the world await the draws for the 2018 FIFA World Cup in Russia which is billed for the 1st December, 2017.

This what the NFF President had to say o the issue; “We can play any country,” Pinnick said. “In fact when the draw for the last 20 teams in Africa came, I said any country that qualifies for the World Cup is as good as lifting the World Cup. Nobody would have believed that Nigeria would qualify out of that group.

Nairaland / General / Re: Lionel Messi Finally Signs A New Contract At F.C. Barcelona. by uneeking(m): 7:35am On Nov 26, 2017
At long last, the Barca fans can now relax their nerves. The baton has now been handed over to F.C. Real Madrid. Will they be able to convince Cristiano Ronaldo to stay at the club? If they are able to manage to do that, what about his contract's buy-out clause? It surely "didn't easy these days" at the top football clubs.
Nairaland / General / Lionel Messi Finally Signs A New Contract At F.C. Barcelona. by uneeking(m): 7:31am On Nov 26, 2017
F.C. Barcelona’s Management and fans heaved a serious sigh of relief today as the team’s star player, Lionel Messi finally put pen to paper to extend his stay at the Catalonian giants until June, 2021.

This much awaited contract extension has attached to it a €700million buyout clause which is expected to stave interest from teams like Manchester City and the likes of PSG who had been nursing the dream of prying off the superstar from Camp nou with mouth-watering offers.

The club’s supporters have been very uneasy with developments at the club for sometime now especially concerning the issue of the mercurial striker’s future at the club. Hopefully, all that have now been put to rest.

The only consolation the fans had hitherto gotten is the fact that the mercurial striker had continued to carry the team on his shoulders anytime he is on the field of play and that has culminated in him once again leading the goal-scorers chart in LaLiga as at the moment.

However, the long-running saga finally came to a conclusion on Saturday, with Messi putting pen to paper on his fresh terms with the five-time European champions, the mammoth buyout clause dwarfing the €222m Paris Saint-Germain spent to prise Neymar away from Barca in August.

Messi will be 34 years old when his newest extension will expire, and will have spent 17 years as a professional at F.C. Barcelona, having made his debut in 2004 after progressing from the club’s famed La Masia academy.

Nairaland / General / Governor Fayose's Expectations Of President Buhari. by uneeking(m): 4:26am On Nov 16, 2017
Many people must have been taken aback by what the Ekiti State Governor, Ayodele Fayose had to say about his expectations of President Buhari as he (Fayose) celebrated his 57th Birthday Anniversary.

But then, I am very sure many well-meaning Nigerians must have applauded his statement as it proves that we have a Nigerian Governor who does not believe in “Politics of Bitterness” or the “Do or Die” type of politics. I hope the masses and other politicians take a cue from this act.

Let’s take a look at what he actually said;

While speaking to to journalists at the Government’s House in Ado-Ekiti, Governor Fayose said;

“My wishes on my 57th birthday as Ayo Fayose are many but one of them which will interest you is that I wish ‎President Buhari’s congratulatory call would have woken me up today as one of the governors in the country and as a leading ‎opposition figure in the country: a fearless young man who believes that things should be done rightly.

“I expect the president to show himself as a father of all, preaching that we must extend love to everybody – not only those in his political party.

“The president would have made a difference if he had extended such gesture to others beyond his political party. Such a congratulatory message should have been conveyed through his Minister of Information (Lai Muhammad). I would have loved to either wake up receiving a congratulatory call from him or read it in the papers. But since it is not coming, it is not a big deal to me and I take no offence on it.”

Now, that is how to play politics in a progressive society and I repeat the wish to see Nigerian politicians take a cue from this sometimes controversial governor. That would make a huge positive difference on the way politics is practiced in the country.

For once in a long while, we have a truly United Super Eagles' Squad. Kudos, Rohr.

Nairaland / General / Nigeria Vs Argentina. Super Eagles Thrash Messi-less Argentina 4 - 2. by uneeking(m): 4:33am On Nov 15, 2017
Nigeria’s Super Eagles stunned the La Albiceleste of Argentina in a friendly match played this evening in Krasnodar, Russia by thrashing the Messi-less team by four goals to two.

Not to take anything away from the Super Eagles, this was a victory against a star-studded Argentinian team who were missing only Lionel Messi in their usual line-up.

The Argentinians had started the match in a blazing manner as expected by dominating the early stages which resulted in them getting the first goal in the 28th minute of the game through their diminutive striker Ever Banega who converted a well-taken free-kick.

Just eight minutes later, the Albiceleste doubled their lead through Sergio Aguero to make matters worse for the unsettled and jittery Super Eagles’ defence line.

The Nigerian side however gradually got back into the game as they got their acts together for once. They were then rewarded for their efforts as Kelechi Iheanacho slotted home a superlative free-kick to bring his side back into the game on the stroke of half-time and make the scores stand at 1 – 2 going into the second half.

If the Argentines had hoped to have an easy game, all of that changed quite early in the second half of the game as the Super Eagles came at them clearly seeking to even matters.

Their efforts paid off as Alex Iwobi brought Nigeria at par with the Argentines when he scored a very beautiful goal barely nine minutes after the resumption of hostilities as he slotted the ball into the South Americans’ net in the 54th minute.

As if that was not enough challenge for the Argentinian side, their situation got worse as the Super Eagles went ahead for the first time in the game with Brian Idowu scoring his team’s third goal in the 73rd minute.

The game was thereafter taken beyond Argentinia’s grip and hope as Alex Iwobi despite being crowded by three Argentinian defenders succeeded in slotting home his second goal of the game and the fourth for his team thereby sending the Nigerians in the stadium and those watching at home into a frenzy of jubilation.

This is surely a victory that will be remembered for a long time to come especially for the Nigerian side and its supporters from all over the world.

Nairaland / General / Re: Nigerians Now Live Like Orphans Says Most Rev. Matthew Kukah by uneeking(m): 3:42am On Nov 14, 2017
The man of God has laid out the bare facts. The problem now however is "Will our so-called leaders" heed to advice and take these issues seriously?

Nairaland / General / Nigerians Now Live Like Orphans Says Most Rev. Matthew Kukah by uneeking(m): 3:35am On Nov 14, 2017
Most Rev. Matthew Kukah, the Catholic Bishop of Sokoto Diocese was one of the dignitaries that graced the 2017 lecture/award ceremony organised by the Epiphany Azinge Foundation, in Abuja. Others included former Presidents Shehu Shagari and Dr. Goodluck Jonathan as well as the former Nigerian Head Of State, Yakubu Gowon.

In his speech at the occasion, Rev Kukah said he was very worried that Nigerians now behave like orphans. He then advised the Federal Government to pay closer attention to decay of vital institutions in the country.

He decried the rot in key institutions in the country, especially universities, and opined that it was a major factor why the image of the country collapsed before the international community.

He went on to say that the country would not progress if those in leadership positions continued to sacrifice merit on the alter of tribalism and nepotism.

He also insisted that “the collapse of the Nigerian image did not happen in isolation. We must measure it against the backdrop of the collapse of some institutions of prestige like the universities.”

He noted that youths in the country have become so disillusioned that they were willing to travel abroad even at the risk of losing their lives. Kukah said it was regrettable that those at the helm of affairs and the citizens were no longer willing to make sacrifices for the betterment of the nation.

He said: “At the bottom of what I am saying is the need for us to find out why Nigerians disobey rules? Why is it that we are so unnameable to keeping the rules? There must be a reason for this. “The issue is that we are constantly asking what is in it for me. It is a selfish question.

People accuse politicians of being selfish, but selfishness is embedded in politics because when a man says vote for me and not the other persons he is already saying I am better. “Tribalisation is arising because of the inefficiency of the Nigerian system.

It is not so much a question of how much sermons we preach, the fact of the matter is that we have outsourced our responsibilities. That is why we are at the point that we are now. Nigerians are now behaving like orphans. We have nobody to turn to.”

Meanwhile, the former Nigerian Head of State, General Yakubu Gowon (retd), who also spoke at the event, said there was need for the country to de-emphasise the issue of state of origin, saying it was the primary reason his administration introduced the National Youth Service Corps as a tool for social and cultural integration.

In his opening remarks, founder and chairman of the foundation, Prof. Azinge, SAN, equally stressed the need for Nigeria to expunge the concept of state of origin from its constitution.

Among those conferred with post-humous awards as detribalised Nigerian leaders were Alhaji Maitama Sule, Dr. Nnamdi Azikiwe and Chief M.K.O. Abiola.

Nairaland / General / Tonto Dikeh Was A Born Again Christian Before Becoming An Actress. by uneeking(m): 8:30am On Nov 07, 2017
Nigeria’s popular actress Tonto Dikeh was a born-again Christian before she got herself involved in the acting profession. This much was revealed by the actress herself as she explained away her new found passion for philanthropy.

In a recent interview, she said;

“Before I got into the entertainment business I used to be so born again. I was a member of a church that was big on giving. I got that doctrine from there and I have been running with it for so long.

“I’m actually known as a very strong woman. That is something I strive so hard to maintain. I would love people to see the better side of me, more of the philanthropist side of me. Because that’s my passion, my life.”

However unlike in the recent past following the breakdown of her marriage to her estranged husband, Churchill Olakunle, the well-known Nollywood diva is no longer forth-coming about giving out personal details to the public.

She however revealed that she was not too comfortable with the way her former husband handled the the narrative concerning their failed marriage.

She had this to say on the issue;

“At first it bothered me a lot, it was killing me,” she said. “But then I got to a point where I realized that nobody cares about me or the situation that happened in my home asides from me.

“Everything that I’m doing out there is for their entertainment, nobody really cares about that. What I went through, I went through. I’m not about to validate my past pain to anybody.

“I’m about moving forward and dumping every weight that has held me backwards for a very long time and being as successful as I can. Whether you believe me or not, it does not matter.”

She however was happy to have granted some of the interviews she did because it eventually helped other victims of domestic violence to speak out on their ordeals.

Tonto also disclosed that she has not thrown away the decision to take her ex-husband to court as she is still very much working on it.
