Someone here reached out to me asking questions which I did my best to answer even she was being inconvenient. At some point she started sounding entitled then I decided to reduce the rate which I respond to her. Two days ago, I suddenly got a message from her asking if she could use my phone number while filling her form (just one of her ridiculous requests).I'm in Brazil with a Brazilian phone number. I replied her asking her not to use my number and her response was she has already used it since i didn't answer her on time. I told her to remove the number, she said "Is done, no big deal". I don't know this woman from anywhere and her entitlement is sickening. I have already blocked her and decided to call her out here. I don't know the nature of her application and the type of documents she used to submit, whether genuine or not so I'm considering changing my number. If I don't, God help her that the embassy reaches out to me.

lovetterrison:I’m not very familiar with conferences but to be safe, just have your invite notarized. Visa category would still be Tourist visa, in the column asking for the purpose of your visit, you can put conference. Yes, you need to book appointment on e-consular, your mode of submission would be through courier and you can then use DHL to submit after the embassy gives you the approval to do so. However, the embassy sent out a notice that they are currently not processing visas till further notice and in case of an emergency, you can send them an email. |
icu4:After interview or after submission? If they give you back your passport without a visa on it after interview, isn’t that refusal? |
icu4:That is weird. I know they accept original copy of international passport and copy of everything else. Maybe send and email asking for clarification. |

Hello Everyone! I know there is a thread already about Giving birth in Brazil. On that thread, I have seen many people make inquiries about study without a lot of response. I decided to open a thread dedicated to studying in Brazil. Brazil welcomes International students to study in their country and all public Universities are tuition free even for foreigners. Brazil is also trying to encourage International students to come and study here in Brazil, hence they have set up GCUB which is a body that provides funding (grants) to international students who intend to study in Brazil. The funding is a monthly stipend provided to support students while studying. Without it, you can still study for free. Admission Process Each faculty decides their own admission process so if you’re interested in a particular course, you’ll need to check the faculty website to see when they usually start their admission process as well as requirements. Some faculties require entrance exams, some don’t. If they do, you’ll make arrangements to write the exam in Nigeria. Language Brazil universities are one of the best in the world. Learning language is Portuguese but as an international student, you can request to do your work in English. Depending on your faculty requirements, you may need to write Portuguese proficiency exam or complete a Portuguese course within one year of admission. Most of the Universities website have the option to view their website in English language at the top of the website. If not you can use your browser’s translation tool to translate the website. After Gaining Admission You’ll need to authenticate your documents at the Ministry of foreign affairs and Ministry of Education. You’ll also legalize with the Brazilian embassy in Lagos. You’ll then apply for your study visa. If you have a study grant, you may not need to prove financially capability, otherwise you’ll need to. If you know about this process, please feel free to contribute. |
deegalaxy:Yes, you can. Even if you travel on the last day of your visa validity, you are still entitled to stay 90 days and extend for another 90 days. In some cases, immigration may stamp you in for just 30 days at first but you can still extend it. |
Bammybestowed:You can enter Brazil as long as your visa is valid, that means you have until next year March to enter Brazil. Now, after you enter Brazil, you are only allowed to stay 90 days, extendable by another 90 days. Your first 90 days starts counting once you enter Brazil. Hope it’s clear now? |
Kahbahsah:I think it depends on the duration of your layover. If longer than 13 hrs(please confirm) and you need to leave the airport, you’ll need a transit visa, if not you won’t need one. |
Bammybestowed:In my opinion, your initial plan is okay especially if you are not ready to get pregnant yet. Most westerners who want to stay longer in Brazil do this. Study visa gives you Temporary Resident Permit and you can bring your family. While on this permit you can get pregnant, have a baby and eventually change to Permanent residency. Duration of your temporary permit depends on the duration of your course. A lot of people opt for Portuguese schools and it’s usually 1 year, if you’re going for masters, it may be up to 3 years. Regarding Jobs, you’ll need to speak Portuguese to get a good paying job except you can get a remote job from the UK, US etc. You can also decide to teach English. If you study portugese for a year, you may be able to achieve the first option. If you’re a business person, the market is there if you find a good product. If you consider distance, I would say your family should apply for tourist visa as well so you can all be together here, once you convert to a permit, they can convert as well. If you plan well, the cost isn’t much compared to other countries and you can DIY. I’m here with my family, we are doing fine but it’s really God’s Grace and I still have plans to Japa. If you don’t mind the language barrier, Brazil is a good country and the economy is growing stronger. I don’t know if I answered your questions well but if you have any doubt, feel free to contact me and I can explain better. |
Ticha:Understood. Thanks a lot for the explanation. |
Hello Ticha, Thank you for always responding here. I have some questions please? Please do you know much about the Manaaki Scholarship? I learned it requires you to go back to your country and stay two years there after the completion of your program in New Zealand. What happens if do not go back or if one travels elsewhere that is not his home country? I saw a YouTube video that said one would have to pay back the entire value of the scholarship. How true is this please? |
Please has anyone done assessment with TRA before? |
Godmother:Yes o. Amen, thank you mama. |
BA! We welcomed our little prince on the 12th of December via emergency CS at 40 weeks, 6 days after hours of labor. He was weighing 4.06kg. We are in love. |
sageb:University of São Paulo University of Campinas I don’t think the language test is a fixed requirement, check your course details. I personally don’t know anyone who had to write it to gain admission. Again, it depends on your course requirements. If it’s required, I think the test may be written at the Brazilian embassy in Lagos (Please confirm) Check the school website, download their selection process and translate with google translate. Some provide details of professors to work with, you can email them in English, this is an example for faculty of Sociology
|
sageb:Yes, they do. It’s more of grant than scholarship. |
Deempress:Except you can cook Brazilian food or other intercontinental dishes, the demand for African food is not that big here. If you’re good business person, the Brazilian e-commerce market is very very big. If you can get a good product to sell online, you’re bound to sell but you’ll need to do your research to find a product that sells. You can either make your own products or buy from big markets and resell online. Luckily, your chrome browser will translate websites for you so you can understand how they work. Popular English speaking remote jobs are customer care services, English teaching, IT Jobs such as scrum masters or product managers, product owners; these are mostly international jobs and you can take courses on them on Udemy. |
voucher:Congratulations mama! |
loliapoopy2013:https://www.io.usp.br/index.php/pos-graduacao/programa-de-pos-graduacao/edital-2022-mestrado.html For example, this is a link to the application criteria page for Masters in Oceanography. Application is still open till 28th of this month. |
Duisburg:I’m not studying in Brazil but I was on the verge of applying for a program. I have Nigerian friends who are studying though. You can send an email or ask here. |
loliapoopy2013:You’re welcome. You don’t need an agent, you’ll do it yourself. Most 2023 application are probably already in progress but depending on your course, you might be lucky to find it still open. Some require you to email a professor directly and some require you to write general exams and interviews or both. You can email the professors in English. http://www.prpg.usp.br/index.php/pt-br/faca-pos-na-usp/programas-de-pos-graduacao That’s the link to the list of post graduate courses at the University of São Paulo, use google chrome browser or any browser that can translate the page. Once you click on your desired course, it will take you to the program’s website, look for “Selection Process” from the site options, that’s where you’ll find the application details. It’s usually in PDF form and downloadable but in Portuguese. You can use google document translator to translate it to English Once you get the information, just follow the application steps. |
loliapoopy2013:Hello, I don’t think there are specifically English taught programs but your professors will allow you do your work in English and you can also communicate with them in English. That’s how most foreign students do it. You won’t need a language test in Portuguese but there’s a Portuguese class you have to take and complete within the first year of your study. Some courses require language tests in English, check your course for specific requirements. Yes, your family is allowed to come with you as dependents. Sincerely, it’s not easy to get jobs here if you don’t speak Portuguese. Outside the university environment, most people can’t speak English so it’s solely Portuguese. The good thing is you’re entitled to study grants even as a foreign student and it’s a good sum. You can also get international remote jobs that will pay you as well. |
Duisburg:Congratulations Bro. I think you can also apply for bosla where they pay you monthly (about R$ 5-7000 monthly for Phd students) |
MoAdiya:I don’t know much about Rio, I just want to say you should consider São Paulo. Rio is best for tourist activities mostly and less safer than SP. If you need a doctor in SP, check princessjecoco’s IG page, she left her doctor’s contact sometimes back. For accommodation, use Airbnb. |

ugsams:1. Yes, I know a few people. I thought the age limit was 10 years but someone here said 12/13 so I’m not so sure. The child must be enrolled in a school in Brazil, the process is relatively fast if you have all the requirements. You can check the Brazilian govt website for more details. 2. It’s not easy to get a Nanny here due to language barrier and most Nigerians are not willing due to bad past experience, however, you may be lucky to find one. If you want to bring someone from Nigeria, you can apply for tourist visa. They can only stay for a maximum of 180 days and won’t be entitled to permanent residency except they are grandparents or siblings of the Brazilian child. 3. Private hospitals range from R$17,000 to R$22,000. You pay obstetrician seperately between R$3000 to R$5000. Públic Hospitals are free. Same level of professionalism but private hospitals are generally more conducive. Black market rate is R$135/140 to 1 naira, USD 5.1 to 1 reas. It changes from time to time 4. Accommodation is generally not cheap in São Paulo especially for short stays. If you’re looking for something decent, your budget is USD$1000 upwards per month for an entire apartment. You might get lower but I doubt considering it’s summer soon. Nice and safe residential areas include Vila Mariana, Vila Olympia, Itaim Bibi Brooklin, Jardins, Pinheiros, Morumbi. Morumbi is home to popular private hospitals. You might get cheaper accommodation (probably) in places at Centro, like Republica, Bela Vista, Consolação, Se etc but you may not like the sight of homeless people on the streets. Check Airbnb for options 5. I don’t know any. |
YeahYeah001:If you’re going for Masters or Phd, your professors will most likely speak English and allow you do your work in English. There are many English speaking students studying in public universities including Nigerians. There is also a Portuguese course most people have to take at the beginning of their program to help with communication. |
Blissbush:Almost the same as those required for tourist application along with your admission letter and proof of scholarship if you have one. LeadMobile:She cannot migrate to the UK on Brazilian passport, she can only visit and is entitled to stay for up till 6 months in a year. She’s not allowed to take on jobs during this period. If she’s lucky to get a job offer that will sponsor her work visa during her visit, she has to leave the uk for the process to be done and return once completed. |
