HealthRe: COVID-19: Many Lagos Civil Servants Test Positive, Govt Orders Work Rotation by Upton: 2:04pm On Jan 12, 2021
KOE1:
I am sure ONE DAY YOU WILL REAP YOUR WORDS if TRULY you are a SAINT in these statements. So the MARKET does not need a STRUCTURE to COMPLY with, FEAR GOD! DOES A COUNTRY HAS A FUTURE WITHOUT EDUCATION? SCHOOLS ABROAD ARE GRADUATING STUDENT AND EVEN ADVANCING IN THE ERA OF COVID-19. People who just died or are now using CHARM to kill one another are termed POSITIVE to COVID-19
You are getting emotional! And from your last sentence you are one of the numerous people that think Covid is a scam in Nigeria. I didn't say our Markets have the structure to comply. I stated Market is essential services. People need to eat, people need to buy food and other essentials to live.

And who is saying Education is bad? I stated our University system is already in a terrible state and opening up the universities without proper and strict adherence to guidelines would be suicidal. The schools abroad you mentioned have moved to online method of teaching, they didn't open their schools to classroom teaching, maybe only those courses that require you to be physically present. We can't move online because our university system can't just do it. In summary all I am saying is that the public university system in Nigeria is messed up and authorities have a lot to do and would need more time to open the universities.
HealthRe: COVID-19: Many Lagos Civil Servants Test Positive, Govt Orders Work Rotation by Upton:
Adejoncy01:
I personally don't see any rationale behind closing down Universities again all in the name of the covid-19 pandemic.

There was covid-19 pandemic, elections held in Edo and Ondo, but Universities ought to be closed.

There is covid-19 pandemic but people go to markets, religious centers and other public places but not University. Private Universities has also been opened all this time.

Even primary and secondary Schools have been opened in some states but why not University? The government and ASUU have succeeded in incurring additional charges for the students like house rent and more. A year has been wasted already, Nigerian students can't afford more.

FG SHOULD ACT ACCORDINGLY AND OPEN OUR CAMPUSES WITHOUT HESITATION!
Signed;
Nigerian Students.
The public university system is terrible and would be the easiest way to transmit the virus. Firstly, the hostels are unhygienic, secondly, lecture theatres are always crowded. E.g more than 200 students receive classes in a lecture theatre meant for 50 people. Talking about elections, even more developed countries held elections during the pandemic, you can't cause anarchy because of the pandemic! Market and buying food is essential. For religious places, primary schools and secondary schools, we have the structure to comply with the necessary safety protocols if we are serious about doing so but you see Universities? Just forget it!

Exmilitant:
Should i believe this? At least names and photos of those affected should be displayed as done in saner climes. Abi our own covid-19 na audio alone?
I don't think saner climes has publicly displayed photos and names of people suffering from Covid-19. It's unethical. I agree they are more transparent but I'm sorry if you think covid is not a serious thing in Nigeria.

there is nothing like 'Nigerian culture'
"my". I'm from a place in Nigeria and we have a culture and way of life that I love. So what is it? You want me to mention Yoruba, Igbo or Hausa culture? I don't have power for that.
PoliticsRe: Emigrate, But Don’t Burn Your Nigerian Bridge - Olusegun Adeniyi by Upton:
Nice article. Personally, I love my Nigerian culture, so it's something I'll always identify with and be proud of and that's it for me.

However, this is a personal decision. People talking about asking generations "where are you from?" Have you heard of Chi Onwurah who categorically stated she isn't a Nigerian but British even though her father was Nigerian. Did the world fall on her head? Do you think her 3rd generation will ever have anything to do with Nigeria or even claim they are from Nigeria when asked?

I am not in support or against anyone who wants to denounce Nigeria. It's their personal choice. Let every man do what he likes. "If you can't add anything to Nigeria's development..." What has the country and its leaders done to help itself? Some of us just love home and will love to be connected to our roots, not because there's anything special

You need to go back to school. Journalism practice is termed "pro bono publico". What you don't know is beyond you. You're jolted because you heard the name " Igbo" and decided that they must be writing from a beer parlour corner. Jealousy is a disease....!
Oh yeah. You think you are smart, maybe you are but you are a dirty tribalistic bigot. The group exists for the public good? Alright fine! Even though it does, no one would deny that there are several groups out there with selfish motives claiming to be speaking on behalf of people. I heard the name "Igbo"? The example I gave about indegenious people of Abuja are they Igbos? You are tribalistic and that's why you think everyone is like you.

CSTRR:
They are speaking for the Nigerians that hate corruption and Love transparency.

The patriots.

And if that is not the majority, then it is sad.
It still doesn't change the fact that it's a common practice that some few people would form a group, sit down in their house and claim to be speaking on behalf of millions of Nigerians. I'm not concerned about whether they did the right thing or not. It is you who chose to jump on my mention without reading and understanding properly.
Foreign AffairsRe: UK Foreign Office Dissociates UK From Gowon’s Alleged Looting by Upton:
Wahala. Some people will just form a group, sit down in a beer parlour and claim to be writing on behalf of millions of Nigerians.

CSTRR:
But they did the right thing.
Corruption is serious.

If true, Gowon should be held accountable, and if untrue, UK should tender an apology.

If your parents had done that in their time, NIgeria would not be a corruption hive it is today.
Why didn't your own parents do it in their time? Or they loved the corruption?

Besides I deliberately didn't comment on the topic of the thread. I only chose to talk about the group claiming to write "on behalf of millions of Nigerians" when it is actually just few people that decided among themselves to write. This isn't the first time we are seeing such a thing, even unions that are politically motivated claim they do whatever they do "on behalf of millions of Nigerians". That's how a group of less than 30 people claimed to be protesting on behalf of the indigenous people of Abuja during the end SARS protest

Not at all. You don't make a decision as sensitive as migration using those reasons, except maybe no. 4. Are Italian cuisines not a bit expensive in Nigeria? Does that make Nigeria any worse than it already is compared to Italy? No

CultureRe: Yoruba Words That Mean The Same In Edo by Upton: 12:20pm On Dec 08, 2020
MyopicMods:
1. “Omo”

It means “child” in both Yoruba and Edo.

2. “Igbo/Ugbo”

“Igbo” is commonly said by Yoruba, but in some dialects, “Ugbo” is also used and it means the same thing in both Yoruba and Edo.

3. “Baba”

It means “Father” in both Yoruba and Edo.

4. “Oba”

It means “King” in Yoruba and it also means the same thing in Edo.

5. “Iye/Yeye”

The Yoruba might use “Yeye” more but the words mean the same thing in Yoruba and Edo; “Mother”.

6. “Unu/Enu”

Some Yoruba dialects switch the “u” for the “e” in “enu”, so it’s the same thing with Edo and it means, “Mouth”.

7. “Ogede/Oghede”

Apart from the slight different spellings, these words are pronouncd the same and mean the same; “Plantain/Banana”.

8. “Ibata/Bata”

If you can unlook the other ‘i’, this word is really the same thing in both Yoruba and Edo and it means, “Shoe”.
