Kokolette Mary leaves Koko Mansion

KOKOLETTEMary Osinachi Bruno became the first casualty of the ongoing television reality show, Koko Mansion, being sponsored by HiTV with support from Nigerian Breweries Plc and Jagal Group.

She left the mansion on Tuesday night when it became apparent that she will not be able to continue in the race for the N5 million cash prize, Chris Aires Diamond ring and a luxury car as well as being the number one Kokolette (ideal woman).

Since the mock eviction on Sunday, where she was one of the four girls that were up for eviction, Mary has not been herself. She no doubt felt ‘betrayed’ as she thought that her role as the Mother of the mansion (in fact, she was referred to as Mama), would not earn her nomination from her fellow occupants of the mansion. A source revealed that Mary was disappointed that two of the girls could actually nominate her for eviction. “She forgot the whole thing is a competition,” the source said. However, she became an emotional wreck, snapping at any of the girls who she viewed with mistrust and betrayal. She spent long hours to herself, sometimes sobbing uncontrollably. It became clear she would not be able to stay a day further in the mansion. She readily consented when the suggestion that she leaves, was made. Viewers via SMS scrolled live on the screen noticed her changed behaviour and expressed concern up till Tuesday evening. She has since
rejoined her family.

Mary, an undergraduate of the Lagos State University and a business woman is 21.

Mary had in her profile described growing up as fun, with a few tough times. Her nickname Sleek Chic best interprets her personality; having been raised in Lagos, she describes the incessant traffic on the roads as an inspiration that influenced a deep appreciation for promptness, swiftness, and accuracy in her actions through life. As a result, she’s learnt to act on her decisions quickly.

She describes her parents as liberal disciplinarians, “they let you take your own decisions once they think it’s the right one”.

According to her, she was on the Koko Mansion show just to live the life, and show Nigerians the kind of person she really is. She’s not really in for the money, but here because she wants to experience what it’s like to live in the same house with strangers – mix with other people from different backgrounds, since all her life, she’s never shared a house with persons other than her immediate family. She however states that, “the fact that I’ve not lived with other people doesn’t mean I don’t know how to live with people”. It is now clear; she has a lot more to learn on how to live with total strangers, in the same house

Painting Your Self-Portrait

The Kokollettes seem to have come to the realization that living in the Koko Mansion isn't just about singing, dancing, and playing the game of "concentration" with a bottle of expensive wine. They were given their first task on Tuesday, and some of the Kokollettes took this task seriously - going to work on it immediately, while a few others let it ride, giving preference to singing and dancing around the mansion. But here they are, struggling to articulate the import of this task on Wednesday afternoon.

Even while some of them were struggling to get this task going, Elizabeth seized the opportunity to apologize to any of the girls whom she may have talked or looked down on consciously or unconsciously. Hmm. She's really playing this "mama" role - first her apologies, then her advocacy for all the Kokollettes to adopt an image that projects them as ideal African princesses. Let's just hope she doesn't impose herself on the duties of the governess.

Chioma's obsession with D'banj came under discussion at the table; actually the Kokollettes confessed that they did not believe her when she came upstairs to inform them of D'banj's presence in the mansion, because they felt she was just expressing her daydreams, like she usually does whenever D'banj is mentioned in the mansion. Okay. Let's just hope Chioma does not end up painting a potrait of D'banj instead of hers.

Anyway, it's good to see that most of these girls have a clear understanding of this task's objective, which is to make a presentation of yourself with the aid of old pictures, and a few other personal items, in order to give the public a better understanding of each Kokollettes story as told from the horse's mouth, so to speak.

On the surface it sounds simple, but telling your life story with just pictures and a cardboard requires a lot of creativity, and on Wednesday we get to watch their final presentation. I can't wait to see how creativity these ladies hide under their make-up.

Concentration! Concentration!!

Before you start concentrating on this serious sounding title, pause for a minute - think about a game by the same title which many of us played on campus, in college, and at fraternity parties. Hmm! If I remember correctly, this game really isn't for people with peripheral knowledge - atleast you have to know something about a lot of things (even if they're very unserious subjects). But the twist is that, no matter how much you know about a lot of things, once you fail a few questions, and guzzle down a few pints of booze, you inevitably start jonesing, and failing subsequent questions that are directed towards you.

My point exactly is, when the Kokollettes decided to play this game, they were just thinking of having fun - and not rehearsing for some pop quiz(that some people are making it out to be). So when they opened that bottle of red wine, their knowledge of everything became subjective to the amount of wine running havoc in their system -and really who wants to play this game sober?

Yeah, so one can argue that in a game of Concentration, you may be a rocket scientist and still fail to give the right answer when describing the law of motion. That does not mean you are ignorant of the this theory, neither does it mean that you're just plain dumb. But at that given circumstance, considering your level of intoxication - whatever errors you make can be excused as part of the game -sometimes, some of us who just love free booze give the wrong answers intentionally so we can be penalised to the tune of consuming more booze.

So, what's all the fuzz about someone being ignorant of which country the city of Ontario can be found? In this case, I'd like to argue in favor of the Kokolette responsible for this 'slip of the tongue' that if this error was made during the game, then it cannot be admissible as evidence in the judgement of how smart or dumb she is. Yes, Ontario is in Canada and not in the United States. But how many intoxicated Americans or Canadians during a game of Concentration can tell me where Ikoyi, Lekki or even Oshodi is?

So, let's not be quick to indict the contestants for just having a little fun. Most of us have played this game, and if we recall some errors we made during these session of momentarily suspension, we'd be rolling on the floor, laughing out loud at our own alcohol-induced ignorance.

A quick aside, alliances are being formed in the mansion - some Kokollettes are bonding, and one smart Kokollette is trying to win another over -how?

That story is coming soon. But for now, let's just watch how these girls are reacting to D'banj's surprise brunch visit. D'banj came in with Ikechukwu, and they went straight to the kitchen, where they were waited on by Rita and Chioma, while the rest of the girls were upstairs making up - girls have to look hot before meeting the Koko master, right?

First Day Inside the Koko Mansion

The reality TV show that had kept everyone guessing, speculating, and criticizing, finally commenced LIVE broadcast at exactly 5:30 pm on Sunday, 28th June.

Our first surprise was when the delectable darling of Nigerian television, Marian Anazodo came on screen to introduce the show. Marian Anazodo? On Koko Mansion? Yes, the same Marian Anazodo whom we’ve all fallen in love with for the past 12 years on NTA. Definitely, her presence in the mansion immediately dispelled all notions of vulgarity, as have been touted publicly by ill-informed critics, who just had to shoot without aiming. Seeing Marian Anazodo, who in all ramifications is qualified to be referred to as an Ideal Nigerian woman take the reins as the presenter of the show was indeed an ice-breaker that went a long way to promise viewers a very good show, where intrigue and drama are more powerful than vulgarity.

But before we continue, let’s back-track a bit, to bring you highlights from the MCR, where the brains behind the show were throwing all their magic portions into one big technical calabash that transmitted the LIVE feed to you.
At about 5:00pm, the MCR was buzzing like a bee hive, more than 18 robotic cameras were being operated from here, to bring you this opening show. The satellite uplink system was humming like an athlete waiting for the sound of the gun, while the crew was running from one monitor to another like investment analysts on Wall Street, but then there was no sign of panic; these guys have done it before, countless times, and all the buzzing and humming was just part of a well-oiled ‘production machine’. A few minutes later, D’banj walked in, so excited, he said, “thank you guys for making this happen, finally, we’re going live, after all the challenges we experienced along the way” he went round hugging everybody in the MCR, really emotional about the whole affair, “my mother called me to tell me that this is the best thing I’ve done in my career so far”.

Okay, fast forward to the live show. Marian Anazodo took the viewers on a guided tour of the mansion, from the foyer to the living room - with its sensuous red furniture, and a life-sized painting of D’banj hanging on the wall. All the awards D’banj has won so far were displayed in a glass encasement in the foyer. From the living room, Marian toured the dining room, and then the kitchen.  From the kitchen, she took the viewers to the leisure area - where we could see the wine bar, the lawn, and compact swimming pool – very ideal for private millionaire picnics.

From the leisure area, she took us upstairs, but on our way, we couldn’t help but notice the stainless-steel balustrade on the staircase, and its finely polished marble steps. Upstairs, we explored the living quarters – the two bedrooms with six beds each – one room has an excellent Jacuzzi – all these for the kokollettes.

Okay, time to welcome the 12 contestants.  Let’s just list them in their order of appearance, with very brief descriptions:

1.    Rekana Sharon Ojong: a 23 year graduate from the University of Calabar; she is one lady who is crazy about fashion, but determined to prove to the world that you can be beautiful and intelligent at the same time.

2.    Chidinma Mbalaso:  she is a very attractive 20 year old student of University of Abuja; her major concern is for people to see her as more than just a pretty face.

3.    Mary Osinachi Bruno: she screamed when she walked into the mansion, stunned by the sheer beauty – she is 21, a student of Lagos State University.

4.    Chioma Akuezue:  A lot of guys are already saying she’s hot, but this girl is a 21 year old musician wants to be a superstar but not at the expense of her integrity. She sang for Marian, and she did well.

5.    Chinwe Hilda Ukadike:  Immediately nick-named “tattoo girl” by Marian, Chinwe is 23, and has 3 tattoos. She describes herself as fearless.

6.    Lilian Ebhohohon: she’s just 18, but this girl has already established herself as a brave young lady who speaks her mind regardless of whatever consequences. She took over the conversation from Marian in less than 30 seconds. Wow!

7.    Victoria Oloye: she’s 20, and she wants her life to be an inspiring rags-to-riches story. She strolled into the house with no drama – had a nice chat with Marian and went back upstairs.

8.    Elizabeth Efe Era: this 27 year student of University of Uyo has already started selling her “mama” role; did you see when she went round the mansion to make sure all the doors were locked before going to bed? She said she would do it, and she’s doing it – playing surrogate mother.

9.    Shona Merenu: Her dreadlocks and her charisma are hard to miss. She’s 23 and very self-assured, and Marian sensed this. Even D’banj was quick to note her style was different. That’s Shona for you – unpredictable, and hard.

10.    Rita Igbinedion Isoken: she came in looking very pretty; just 19, she’s been through a lot of emotional trauma, and it showed when she was chatting with Marian.

11.    Bidemi Jolayemi: 23, a student of Olabisi Onabanjo University. She’s reputed to be the girl with the P.M.A – Positive Mental Attitude. We hope to see her positivity in action during difficult tasks.

12.    Bolanle Okhiria: did you see her dress? She was stunning, and Marian acknowledged that much. She’s 21, a student of Lagos State University, who ended up winning many viewers over in less than 5 minutes with her warm attitude – she was such a chatterbox, no wonder she dreams of starting her own talk show.

After the contestants arrived, the presenter introduced the governess, Chika Anadu – one look at her and you’d be convinced that she was tailor-made for the job of keeping these girls in check. D’banj joined the ladies briefly, had cocktail with them; toasted to good health and an entertaining stay at the mansion before leaving the kokolettes in the capable hands of the governess.

That’s all for now, more updates coming soon.  But let’s hear what you think about your favorite contestants, and maybe discuss what you’re looking forward to seeing on the show,by visiting www.kokomansion.tv to air your views.

The Countdown has Just Begun

The public have been rife with speculative opinions on the Koko Mansion. In fact, from observations, it seems like a whole lot of people are looking forward to watching the show for some of the wrong reasons – no wonder this noble project has enjoyed its unfair share of controversy. Beer buddies, over bottles of intoxicating liquor often banter quite loudly, about the prospect of seeing some flesh on the show. Well, it wouldn’t be right to burst their bubbles, but they’d be better off expecting to see some flesh on Larry King Live than get any on the Koko Mansion. The truth is that, in as much as D’banj is a provocatively enigmatic brand, it would be extremely judgmental to assume that just because D’banj’s music oftentimes inclines towards the suggestive, that a show anchored by him would provide some lewd content for our pervasive imaginations. Bad thinking. As a matter of fact, without any intent to launder the Koko master’s image, D’banj is actually a self-conscious socially responsible entertainer, who takes his business seriously, with an in-depth understanding of what giving back to society means.

So, it’s hard to understand why my beer buddies have refused to give up their Playboy Mansion fantasies, and begin to look forward to the possibilities of having D’banj, and the able Koko Mansion team, expose them to the finer qualities of womanhood in Nigeria – I’m certain many eligible bachelors will find it interesting to discover what 12 young Nigerian women, and the general public will project as the virtues of the ideal Nigerian woman.

So, yeah – the countdown has just begun, and people are already talking about their expectations. One of the celebrities interviewed had a very rib-cracking opinion – more like some advice – in fact, Julius Agwu was emphatic about his warning to the producers to insist on a full body scan of all the applicants, because he suspects a few guys had also applied to the show. I wish I could graphically recreate that joke, but hey, it’s probably another reason for you to tune in to the Koko Channel which opened on Sunday the 21st – and of course, for now, the momentum is rapidly building towards the official opening on Sunday, the 28th.

By Sunday, of course there’d be a whole new topic for discussion amongst beer buddies, and eligible bachelors, because that’s when the 12 dynamic young ladies will be unveiled to the public. So, stay glued to the Koko Channel, and of course, the koko mansion website at www.kokomansion.tv to get your regular fix on all the juicy behind the scene pictures, videos, and perchance a few stories for all the family to swap during dinner.

Hi Mreds,

Please stop commenting on things you know little or nothing about.

For the records HiTV never lost MTV Base and FOX Sports,we terminated the contracts. If you had HiTV doing the days of MMDS cable you would have known that mtv base was airing things they should have stopped airing, while Fox sports is really not a channel that sells well in africa. That is why Mytv also terminated the contract of FOX sports.

Well for CNN you will have to wait till next year for that, because they till have their contract with Dstv ends.

Why HiTV’s raising subscription in Soccer+ More bouquet, by Subair

FOUNDER of wholly Nigerian satellite company, Mr. Toyin Subair, has explained the rationale behind the rumored subscription increment.
The intellectual property lawyer described rumour as true and false. “Well, the rumor is true and false, this is because yes HiTV plans to increase prices for our Soccer + More bouquet based on the new premium football content coming on from August, but we will also be  creating a new non –football bouquet.”

He gave reasons why HiTV is introducing new bouquets? “In 2007, HiTV entered into the Pay TV market and offered the Nigerian public premium football content because we understood the importance of sports (football) in Nigeria and  in any pay TV industry as a major driver. As our business stabilized however, we started appealing to other segments of the market; children, women and non-football loving men because of the other contents we added to the platform.

“In over 2 years of operations, it became obvious to us that our customers are not only football lovers (as many people think) but cut across all segments. Maintaining one bouquet will mean that we charge all our customers a flat rate irrespective of what their preferences were in terms of content and this we felt was not in the best interest of the customers. The management therefore decided to create two distinct bouquets; one to appeal to football lovers and the other to appeal to lovers of entertainment in general. With these two bouquets, our customers have a choice and do not need to pay for what they do not want.”

What will these bouquets contain? Subair explained. “The football bouquet which we have tagged:  Soccer+More bouquet  is our premium bouquet and will contain all the general content we currently have in addition to all the football content currently on the platform (excluding the La Liga) and those coming on from August 2009. Our general entertainment bouquet tagged, Basic Bouquet  will contain all the channels we currently have excluding the major football content. It will still contain Eurosport news, Setanta sports but will not show any of the English premierships League matches or UEFA coming on in August.”

So, beginning from July 1, HiTV’s Basic Bouquet according to Subair, “will sell for N3, 500, while our Soccer+More bouquet will sell for N6, 000 per month.

The old prices will be applicable till June 30, and any customer, Subair revealed, that wishes to take advantage of this old price and pay ahead, “then it’s their choice.”

He gave details of the exclusive sport contents coming on in August. “From August, our football loving customers and prospective customers will be entertained with the very best of Barclay Premier league, UEFA Championship League, UEFA Cup,, Italian Serie A, Carling Cup, Copa libertadores, Copa Sudamericana, CAF Championship League,  A1 Grand pix, NBA ,WWE and much more.”

The HiTV boss revealed plans to accommodate prospective customers with the oncoming UEFA Champions league. “Our marketing department is currently working on a package to accommodate them and this will be communicated shortly. What I will say is that we want to make this as affordable for them as possible. We know they have already incurred the initial cost of set up with the other platforms, so we are looking at a package that is pocket friendly and will give them the opportunity to enjoy all we have to offer.”

On expectations of Nigerians from HiTV. “Nigerians should expect the very best from HiTV; our growth has been progressive over the years and we will only get better. Within a few weeks, we will be moving to a more spacious location that has facilities that will enable us offer excellent customer service. The location will house a 60-seater fully manned customer service centre, and give us access to more phone lines thereby dealing with the accessibility problem some of our customers have been experiencing. We also recently introduced a new subscription payment method–the recharge pins in partnership with Vigeo Holdings (Citiserve). This has made payment of subscription much easier and faster.

Finally, as a total entertainment platform, we are committed to all segments of the market and will continue to strive to bring the best to their homes,” he submitted.
