HiTV again wins Barclays Premier League Rights, 100% Nigeria’s PAY TV Company, HiTV has again won the exclusive broadcast rights for the Barclays Premier league for 2010-2013 season. The company won the rights for the Nigerian territory in a highly competitive bid last week Thursday. It will be recalled that HiTV has in the past two seasons held majority broadcast rights to the League. This current development however, indicates that HiTV will now have exclusive pay TV rights to broadcast the competition in the country. The disclosure was made in a statement signed by the Chief Executive Officer of the Football Asssociation Premier League, Mr Richard Scudamore. In a related release credited to a visibly elated Chief Executive Officer of the HiMedia Group, Mr. Toyin Subair, he said “We have been awarded the television, mobile and Internet rights for another three seasons -20010/11, 2011/12 and 2012/13. The Premier League did not break up the rights into two separate packages like the previous seasons but bundled all the matches into one package which we won. As such, HiTV now owns 100 percent rights” Explaining further, he said “Over the last two years, we have been broadcasting the Premier League live to Nigerians in the comfort of their homes at a price they can afford. Nigerians can now look forward to another four years of continued qualitative enjoyment of premium soccer. HiTV can also now consolidate on its achievements, grow its subscriber base further and build an even more sustainable business. HiTV is also now better positioned to help brands, advertisers and marketing agencies who want to take a long term perspective towards using soccer as a launch pad and/or platform for their brands.” Aside from conventional contractual obligations especially related to payment of rights fees, our source learnt reliably gathered that there are no unusual conditions attached to the rights. Also speaking, the Chief Operating Officer of the HiMedia Group, Mr. Olumide Amure stated that “HiTV subscribers should be on the lookout for more value added services such as mobile downloads, opportunities to watch the matches on the Internet, travel to watch their teams play live in stadiums, visit their teams dressing rooms and even have interviews with their favourite players.” HiTV’s advent into the Pay TV scene in Nigeria over two years ago completely revolutionized the industry especially with the affordable posititioning which afforded hundreds of thousands of Nigerians the opportunity to own a Pay TV, hitherto considered a luxury. |

At Independence, HiTV gives free airtime, begins promo In the spirit of Independence, Pay TV Company, HiTV Nigeria has announced plans to shower its subscribers with gifts in commemoration of the nation’s 49th Independence anniversary celebration. Nigeria will on October 1, mark its 49th year as an independent nation. Mrs. Kemi Fashina, the company’s Head, Brand/Marketing in a statement said the promotion which begins today, Friday, September 25 will run for three months. Consequently, all subscribers on Premium bouquet will from today pay the low sum of N4, 900 as against the N6, 000 they have been paying. “This is our offering to Nigerians at this auspicious time of our 49th Independence anniversary, so our subscribers can pay N14, 700 and enjoy our services from now till December instead of the monthly N6, 000,” Fashina said even as she gave reasons why HiTV decided to give back to its subscribers and Nigerians who have stayed loyal to one of Africa’s fastest growing Pay TV company. “We are a Nigerian company, we have the interest of Nigerians at heart, and we see our subscribers as partners not customers, so to create an atmosphere of good partnership, which will make it a win-win situation for all, we are giving to our partners in progress a special Independence package.” Subscribers that have not operated their HiTV decoders for five months now, and have missed out on the fantastic new channels that HiTV has been offering for the period they have been inactive, now have a chance to rejoin the new family of happy partners according to Fashina. “We are giving a free month’s airtime/subscription to all our subscribers that had been inactive for whatever reasons. All the subscriber needs to do is call the customer care hotline, 01-2800990 and he/she will be reconnected immediately for them to enjoy what they’d missed in the last five months,” the HiTV top official said. What has the subscriber missed in the last five months? Fashina has this to say: “Clear signals that can match any international Pay TV anywhere in the world; improved programming and fantastic channels for adults and kids and of course an unbeatable array of live sports channels. For instance, HiTV’s Hi Kids, Kidsco among others not only educate the kids, they also entertain them non-stop, our Hi Movies, Hi Nolly, Amuludun channels show the best of local and foreign movies, you can’t find elsewhere in this part of the continent and then for live sports, we have the best of them all; the Barclays Premier League, Carling Cup, Serie A, EUROPA Cup and the mother of all football shows on earth, the UEFA Champions League. Sky News, BBC, Al Jazeera among others take care of news. Now, tell me if that person has not missed out in the last five months that he has been off our platform? But we cherish the partnership we have with our subscribers, so we are offering that category of people a chance to see what we have now as against what we had before they went off due to circumstances beyond their control. Seeing is believing, that is what we are trying to tell our partners in progress.” She however advised subscribers to take advantage of the Independence promotion and pay for the three months in advance and “save some hard-earned money, that is the spirit.” However, subscribers cannot pay for more than three months, the period the promo will run. |

There’s Fire in the Mansion…Please Don’t Run! The mansion furnace is overheating, with explosive dexterity. The flames are threatening to ravish anything and anyone in its path. Okay, let’s break it down a notch. Right from the onset, the Koko Mansion has been about pleasant surprises, and nerve-cracking suspense. Many viewers have often watched the eviction shows with profound awe for D’banj and the producers – why? The first eviction show threatened the sensibilities of the Kokolets, and even the viewers – the Kokolets had voted amongst themselves to boot out those mansion mates they considered threats, or really didn’t like very much. That experience saw a few Kokolets battling with a mélange of emotions immediately after the show – tears found solace in their relief. The second week was the real deal – the power to keep the Kokolets in the mansion had been transferred to the viewers, and when they exercised that new found power, the gory axe of eviction cut short Lilian’s dancing days in the mansion. The tension heightened in the mansion – the Kokolets who came close to getting the axe became zombies of their previous selves, until in the second week, the eviction grim reaper appeared once again – and this time with a more devious appetite – Chioma, Rekana, and Bidemi were paraded at the altar of the eviction fiend, and instead of snatching one – this ghoul of eviction informed D’banj that he had the power to save just one Kokolet that week, it was difficult for D’banj to do this but he had to respect the millions of viewers who had hired this grim reaper – he saved Rekana for the second time – letting the cold hands of eviction escort the duo of Chioma and Bidemi out of the mansion. Ouch, the hands of eviction must be so cold. But this time, there’s fire in the mansion, but please don’t run. Because no matter how fast you run, the fire must burn. In an exciting new twist to the Koko Mansion plot, a ravishing beauty is about to invade the privacy of the Kokolets in the mansion. This extremely spontaneous individual, whose crazy love for fashion and drama can only be compared with the likes of Paris Hilton and Kim Kardashian – did I hear you say the B-word? Please don’t – that would be a gross understatement of what this beautiful lady all the way from the Netherlands will be dishing out to the mansion mates for one week. First of all, they have no clue that she is coming to the mansion. Secondly, they would be given the impression that she is gate-crashing the competition for a chance to win the 5 million naira – and definitely tongues will wag, and fierce rebellion against her would be staged by the surviving Kokolets. But then, the truth, which just you and I know is that she, is not coming to the mansion to compete with the Kokolets, but to shake things up and keep the Kokolets on their fragile toes. Eh Hmm. Her name is Isi Munirat, she is a Nigerian living in the Netherlands, working as a travel agent, who loves to have mad fun with her girlfriends in her spare time. And you can say it again – she is a very attractive eye candy – tailor-made for the covers of GQ magazine- and she is just a scintillatingly hot 25 year old damsel. And she’s moving in this Sunday, immediately after the eviction show. I can’t wait. Can you? |
Hi Ugosly, There are two sections about koko mansion i advice you use those. Also i advice you get something to do,did anyone force you to watch the show (bad belle). |
Kokolette Lilian takes a bow AMID an emotionally charged atmosphere, Kokolette Lillian became the second Kokolette to leave the now famous Koko Mansion television reality show. Being sponsored by Pay TV Company HiTV with support from Nigerian Breweries Plc and Jagal Group, makers of Tetmosol antiseptic soap, Koko Mansion has entered its third week with the 12 Kokolettes (girls) now reduced to 10. Mary Bruno had earlier left the Mansion ‘owned’ by hip hop star D’banj on who the show resolves around. At exactly 5pm on Sunday, the Governess of the Mansion had announced to the girls who had already packed their bags, that one of them would leave the show. Unlike the previous Sunday eviction which later turned out to be mock show, the Governess revealed that a Kokolette would surely go home. The show hostess Marian Anazodo’s presence heightened the tension in the Mansion. Camera closed up on the girls as some of them like Rita and Shona looked pale white. As the clock ticked, emotions climbed to a feverish point and the girls began to sob, gently at first. Voting by the public for their favourite Kokolette to remain in the house began earlier in the week. It closed on Saturday. When Marian began calling the names of the girls that escaped eviction, they could not hide their feeling of relief. Rita who is becoming the public’s favourite wept uncontrollably when she learnt she would not be going home. The roll call ended with Chioma, Rekana and Lillian who all had the least votes, a situation that made them eligible for eviction. The deft way Marian handled the eviction proceedings nearly caused even the viewer to have a heart attack. The three girls were transfixed. The tension was so thick a knife could cut through. Then enters the owner of the Mansion, D’banj, who has the power to ‘save’ two out of the three girls up for eviction. It was a tough decision for the music star. Who does he save? Is it Chioma, a budding hip hop act or Rekana, that has displayed core traditional values despite being a modern girl or Lillian that has lightened the mansion with her electrifying dance steps? D’banj set aside sentiments and saved Chioma and Rekana. Then, the expansive living room of the mansion reverberated with deep throated cries. Lillian, although sobbing, was matured about the situation. It would take a while for her to realise that she has lost in the race for the N5 million naira prize money, a luxury car and a Chris Aires Diamond ring that the winner will walk away with. She danced non-stop at the Eviction Party held immediately at the Jade Palace, Adeola Odeku, Victoria Island. Voting to keep your favourite Kokolette in the house starts on Monday, July 13, and closes on Saturday midnight. Each Kokolette has a number that the viewer would type in and send to short code displayed on Koko TV screen on HiTV. The next eviction is scheduled for Sunday, July 19 at 5pm. |
Holding Two Aces and the Call Card [Pt. 2] Bluffing is an essential technique in battling your opponents psychologically. It’s a crucial call-card. What about Bolanle? Like she said during the eviction show, she believed she was nominated by two girls because the ladies in the mansion consider her a very big threat. She went on to hint that she was actually happy about the nomination, because it meant that the other ladies were afraid of her. The news of her statement soon spread in the mansion, and it kindled a certain fire that sparked an interesting debate – some of her fellow house mates criticized her for making such an egoistic statement, but the more they criticized her, and the more she remained elusive over the matter, the fonder the viewers grew of her, believing that her fellow housemates’ criticism stemmed from the fact that they were actually intimidated because she made the best presentation during their first task. Hmm. She was perceived by the viewers as the victim of such negative criticisms; to the viewers, she has done nothing wrong – she was just brilliant. But as a poker player, you’d know that all she needed to do to take the psychological lead on her fellow contestants was to sow that seed of superiority by uttering that the ladies considered her a threat. It sounded logical to the viewers, and validated by the actions of her fellow housemate following her utterance. All she had to do was anticipate their reactions, drop her trump card, and watch her fellow contestants struggle with themselves – questioning themselves – wondering if they really felt threatened by Bolanle’s beauty and brilliance. And as a poker player, you know that once you succeed in making your opponents doubt their own game, then you’ve already beaten them mentally. The game from that point is almost over, in your favour. Some trump cards have failed to strike the right chords in the mansion - and with the viewers. Chioma, the self-acclaimed best singer in the mansion, tried to intimidate her fellow housemates with the fact that she believed she had a marketable talent that would appeal greatly to D’banj. She sang and danced at every given opportunity. The contestants at first felt she had an edge over them, but when she kept going at it – singing the same song over and over again for everyone that cared to listen – and when she finally sang for D’banj, he struggled to pretend he was actually impressed with her singing, but he wasn’t fooling any of the girls. From that moment onwards, the housemates realized that she wasn’t a threat in this competition (or so they think), and the viewers grew weary of her constant barrage of their sensibilities with her average dance moves, and ‘just-okay’ singing abilities. Elizabeth had also come to the mansion loaded with one self-confessed call-card. She desperately needed to play surrogate mother to her fellow housemates, but that dream died prematurely, because her so-called motherly instincts ended up looking like she was a tyrant. And her fellow contestants could not come to terms with another bossy housemate – she struggled to impose her authority, but up until now, she hasn’t been able to command their loyalty and respect. In fact, she’s been criticized and confronted by the contestants over her attitude. She had to abort that role, until further notice. Many trump cards will soon emerge, more aces will be pulled off from some sleeves, and as they do, we’d discuss their merits and demerits, like poker players. |
Holding Two Aces and the Call Card [Pt. 1] In life everyone has got a trump card. And sometimes aces up their sleeves. How you use this depends on what you want to achieve. Just like those who apply the cheat-mode in a game of poker do so by manipulating the call-card, when it affects their chances of winning. But then if the call-card favours your game plan, you never hesitate in dropping yours. Especially when you have a few aces tucked up your sleeves. Contestants on any reality show are like players on a poker game. Your success depends on a whole lot of indices that border on skills, sheer luck, and sometimes your ability to call your opponents’ bluff. But before you call your opponents’ bluff, you must have the ability to read people – you must possess the ability to evaluate the psychological disposition of your opponents – you must be able to read everything from body language to speech mannerisms. You need a good grasp of human behavior to enable you understand what the following gestures mean - unusual silence, wry smile, gnashing of teeth, breaking into cold sweat, tapping of fingers on the board, humming silently, or the restless crossing of legs. These actions give away your opponents level of anxiety or excitement at any given time during the course of a poker game. How does this apply to the contestants in the Koko Mansion? Let’s walk through some of the telling moments on the show. When you’re anxious you want to cover up your anxiety, by picking on those who appear more anxious than you are. Take for instance Rita’s profiling session with the other Kokolets soon after Sunday’s eviction show– they had gathered on the dining table, and Rita had the floor, putting forward her psychological evaluation of each contestant – telling each one to her face, what she felt were their personality traits, she had said things like, “Sharon, you like money, you’re the kind of girl who’d date a man for his money”; “Lilian, you like gossiping…”, “Chidinma, you like fashion, and you like looking beautiful” etc. She went on for hours, profiling each one of them, and they were all awe-struck; many viewers could have sworn that the contestants’ inability to contest her evaluations was proof that her evaluations were indeed valid, with a lot of merits. But that was just her using the calling card she’s been handed to dazzle her opponents – reinforcing her inert ability to understand the human behavior before the viewers. And it worked. It won her more admirers. But ask yourself – why would someone use such an ace this early in the game? The answer is simple. If you are able to establish your intellectual superiority over your opponents, you can control their perception and prevent them from exploiting your own weaknesses. Rita had been the butt of every other girl’s joke in the mansion, until she came second during the first task, and had the rare honor of dining with the entire Mo Hits crew. That reward changed her fate in the mansion. When she returned, she glamorized and sensationalized the outing, exaggerating the details until the other housemates turned into cucumbers out of jealousy. She had just discovered that the other girls were intimidated by success. That was when she knew she’d found her audience – and she played her card – unwilling to relinquish the newfound respect she’s earned. So far, it’s working smoothly for her. Now, the ladies believe that she’s a very smart girl that you can’t afford to mess with. |
(bad belle).
