My friend the specifics and exact figures that are being proposed to be given to all ministries, departments, parastatals, agencies etc were not in the President's speech but will be given to NASS. This figures NASS will work on and ask these agencies to come to their various committees to defend.

The Joint Task Force in Yobe State also known as the Operation Restore Order has just announced that it has killed a major commander of the Boko Haram sect who was a feld commander of the sect's leader, Malam Shekau. He was killed along with some 30 members of the sect. Curiously the Boko Haram members were holed up near the Damaturu cemetery in Ann area called Kandahar.

PRESS STATEMENT

JTF KILLS SHEKAU’S FIELD COMMANDER IN DAMATURU

1.  In the early hours of Sunday, 7th October 2012, men of JTF in Damaturu, Yobe State on cordon and search operation in suspected Boko Haram hideout at Kandahar and the cemetery areas of Damaturu engaged in a gun battle with the suspected terrorists.

2.  About thirty (30) suspected Boko Haram Terrorists were killed in the battle which lasted several hours. In the battle, the notorious, one-eyed Bakaka, the field commander of Boko Haram in Damaturu and a close associate of Abubakar Shekau was killed. Ten (10) others arrested during the battle are presently assisting investigators to track other senior members of the terrorist group.

3.  Six (6) rifles, ninety (90) rounds of ammunition, several handsets and sim packs were recovered. Other items recovered include; knives, bows and arrows, diggers, knives and two (2) keke napep tricycles. Also, three (3) cans of IEDs recovered were detonated.

4.  JTF wishes to appreciate the support so far received from the peace-loving and law abiding people of Yobe State urging them to volunteer more information that will lead to arrest of other suspected terrorists. JTF further requests that people should remain calm and go about their lawful activities as efforts are geared towards ensuring the safety of lives and property.

5. Meanwhile, Colonel IS Ali has being appointed the new Commander of the JTF in Yobe state. He replaces Colonel Dahiru Abdulsalam who proceeds to Defence College for further military studies. Until his recent appointment, Colonel Ali was a Deputy Director at the Army Headquarters Department of Training and Operations (DATOPS).

A group, the Light and Oneness for Good Leadership Association, has asked Boko Haram, an Islamic sect, to shun violence; and respect the right to life of every Nigerian.

It said the right to life of every citizen of the country was inalienable as contained in the country’s constitution.

Founder of the group, Imowo Andrew, who said this in Uyo on Thursday, averred that respect for people’s right to life and peace were vital tools for the development of the country.

He stated that if respect for man’s right to life was lacking, development, which requires peace, would also be lacking.

He stated that there were certain things one should not tackle with force, adding that when individuals and organisations were urging President Goodluck Jonathan to use force to end the activities of the sect; the President knew such efforts could degenerate into something else.

He said, “Through the President’s patience, he has shown Nigerians and the world that we are not at war; that Nigeria is going through a phase in her history and it will soon overcome it. We need to understand the President, we need to support him.

“He is the only President I have seen that understands the problem of this country. Ranging from his agricultural policy to power sector, one can see that he is really serious about tackling the problem of this country.” On whether the President would seek a second term in office, Andrew said the Jonathan had the right like any other Nigerian to seek re-election.

Demdem: No one is saying that the governors are innocent. I am not saying that. However the governors are basically following the footsteps of the FG. Th biggest fraud in our country today is FG followed by the federating states and it will remain like that until the head is clean.

If my president feeds on 1 Billion naira for each financial year, why should it be wrong if each of the federating governors feeds on 500Million naira yearly

But u show me a governor that will feed on more than 20Million naira in a financial year if my presidents feeds on such amount. Its not possible.
The change we desire will come from the top and until the top realizes that it will start from them, we are just deceiving ourselves.
Most of the governors are frauds and its because the head itself is a fraud and thats why the head cant caution them.

I have asked the greatest noisemakers on this forum what the feeding budget (their favorite line) of President Obama, former President OBJ, Late President Yar'Adua,and even Gov Fashola is. I don't even know the feeding budget of my state governor or my local government chairman.

I am a firm supporter of President Jonathan's anti-corruption strategy which is a silver bullet- transparency in government. We know more about what goes on in government now, we have a President whose ability to isolate his ego while leading is legendary.

This guy is so powerful that he can bring down all the opposition channels, including replacing Tambuwal and the opposition parties and media houses but he rather chose to defend their right to insult him. They call him clueless but his methods are deep and engaging. He understands his powers as the president but uses them rarely and for the right purposes. He believes more in being loved that being feared. In democratic credentials, President Jonathan has an A and this trickles down in his government approach to every other issue. Look at N5000 note, Bakassi, Budget presentation to NASS issues.

We are used to jungle justice but unfortunately, OBJ style did not work and we have a democratic President who believes that ONLY the law court can sentence someone to prison. President Jonathan is building one of the strongest and best democratic models and this should be appreciated.

As i will advice the political scavengers who believe that GEJ must go down for them to rise, this President have equipped all of us with the ability to ask government questions. They should allow this to percolate and not take it to mean a license to insult their country and President.

This is truly a frank talk,I just wish some who see the GEJ's gentle approach to issues as a sign of weakness will wake up from their slumber and realize that he is the best thing that has happen to us in terms of leadership for years.
