TAO11, I told you this miscreants have no sense and are beyond educating grin

Just look at this mess of a comment that they all liked grin this is the level of intelligence of 4 of the most active Bini persons on this forum grin oh man

@Edeyoung, this exact piece of shiit you call a response is similar to the nonsense you posted before with your other moniker Gregyboy or whatever, but this is even dumber

1. There's no "French Elisée Reclus & A. H. Keane; The earth and Its Inhabitants, Vol. 12, Published 1882, p.265"
What an uneducated clout grin
The French has a totally different citation structure grin
You don't just slam "French" to the beginning of my citation and think you have changed everything grin

And there is no revised version, there is only re-editing, hence the several Volumes. And you already mentioned the 12th Volume from 1882, so what's the idea of your emphasis on the year 1899 as if there isn't already the one you've seen which I shared from 1882 grin
Which by the way isn't the first publication but 12th grin

2. "Probably.." "my stance.." , "do you know why.." "I would bet.." grin grin
Such an uneducated fellow.
Provide documented evidence not probability, stances and imaginative Did you knows

As documented evidence has shown Yoruba Kings refered to as Ọba since at least the mid 19th century not 1930

You see evidence you still want to bet against yourself grin what a clown

3. If all the examples you mentioned like deji, owatapa etc are generic why are they specific to those Kings? grin or you don't know what generic means grin
How many times will they tell you that these are styled titles specific to that particular king.. Reason you don't have 10 Dejis running 10 kingdoms or 16 Owatapa running 16 different kingdoms

They've told you this but you get coconut head grin
Anyway if you can say your omonoba is a liar for saying his ancestor is Oranmiyan, your case is like pouring water into a basket

4. Elisée Reclus & A. H. Keane; The earth and Its Inhabitants, Vol. 12, Published 1882, p.265
www.nairaland.com/attachments/12712594_20201120li_jpeg669beaef00c457b182431ec02a16e2d9
That is published in 1882, read it again 1882
Therefore fulfilling your very first request to provide a pre-1900s documentation of the word "oba" in reference to King by Yorubas

And none of the volumes of "the earth and its inhabitants" are mere translations, they are editions
Each standing on its own as a valid source material or documented evidence
Chai, to skip school no good o grin

And who's she? grin grin grin grin grin
When your fabrication ain't tight you call your opponents miscreants, I understand the painment you are in cheesy grin

Youre manipulative i never read this before i know it will be scrap

Why would you quote me a yoruba author who knew that attaching the word oba to yoruba kings it would help his book to sell

As for the french Elisée Reclus & A. H. Keane; “The earth and Its Inhabitants", Vol. 12, Published 1882, p.265

I check the reference and there was nothing there relating to any yoruba

If you're talking about the revised version rewriting in 1899, then you must be joking

First of all at 1899 all yorubas already knew how powerful the word oba was if use to adress themselves and elisee Reclus probably even have the demited book of Samuel
Johnson to have been able to call yoruba kings obba

My stance remains that before samuel johson wrote his demitted book history of yorubas
No yoruba used the word oba as a generic term for yoruba kings and before 1930 before it became officially used

I would burst your bubble do you know why samuel johson did a way with many general words for king in Yorubaland like olu, deji, kaybeyesi, because he knew those words wont sell if it was writing it to the Europeans unlike when he used the word OBA which is more recognized to the Europeans

I would bet that at the time samuel johson wrote that book the word oba was not even know to oyo people, unlike the eastern yorubas who used the words because of influence from benins the original owner of the word , samuel johnson he only got to know the word oba because he was educated and had read books written by Europeans on the oba of benin

Afam4eva do you know that yorubas have so many words they could adopt for a generic term for king names like
1) olu= we get them in titles like olu of ibadan, olu of warri
2) deji= deji of akure,
3= owa=Owatapa of Itapa Ekiti, Owatapa of Itapa Ekiti,

Then we have kabeyesi= meaning royal highness

Yet they decided to choose the word oba

The question is which title originally bore the word oba amongst the yoruba kings before 1930 apart from the oba of beni., you will see its none

If you doubt me bring a source older than 1897

Please lets see the original copy of elisee reculus
Before the translation if she used the word obba in an original text

Politics › Oyigbo Chiefs Beg Army To Retain Soldiers by valirex(op): 8:18am On Nov 21, 2020
Tension has persisted in Oyigbo, the Local Government Area in Rivers State, which came under attacks by hoodlums identified as members of the disbanded Indigeneous Peoples of Biafra (IPOB).

Chiefs in the council at the weekend expressed fears that the fleeing IPOB members could regroup and return to the area.

They recalled how members of the proscribed group hijacked the #EndSARS protest killing six soldiers, four policemen and destroying all police stations and a court among other things in the area.

The chiefs implored the Defence Headquarters not to withdraw soldiers deployed to restore peace in the Oyigbo to prevent remnants of IPOB from regrouping.

The chiefs under the aegis of Ogbakor Oyigbo, also urged persons, who deserted Oyigbo to return as normalcy had been restored.

High Chief, Eze Ukwu III, Louis Okorie, said they were not interested in the call by some persons to withdraw the troops.

He expressed serious concern that if soldiers were withdrawn from Oyigbo, IPOB anarchists would unleash violence in the area.

He said: “The Ogbakor Oyigbo General held a meeting here and said they will not allow the removal of soldiers from Oyigbo.

“On 12th of November, 2020 we met with the Local Government Chairman, Gerald Aforji, informing him of our plight. We don’t want Army to be withdrawn for the benefit of Oyigbo people.

“We need to be careful of the remnants of IPOB terrorists. We thank Rivers State Governor, Nyesom Ezenwo Wike for imposing the curfew which has calmed down the situation in Oyigbo.”

Also,High Chief, Lisbery Onyegorom, narrated that indigenes of Oyigbo were still in shock following the wanton destruction unleashed on their community by members of the outlawed IPOB.

He said: “We were surprised by the level of destruction by the IPOB. We are Rivers State and Niger Delta people. Our people are not members of IPOB . I am not aware of any Oyigbo indigene who is a member. We don’t allow that.

“Now, that the IPOB members have killed some soldiers, all of them have run away. The Army is investigating and fishing them out . Most of the IPOB members arrested have given vital information about the remnants.

“We are in support of the Governor’s ban on IPOB activities across Rivers State and hoisting of IPOB Flag.”

Onyegorom frowned at allegation of extrajudicial killings levelled against the Army by some persons playing petty politics with the Oyigbo issue.

“We are solidly behind our Governor’s effort to maintain peace in Oyigbo. The Governor did not say, go and kill people. The Army came on a rescue mission . That’s what they came for.

“It is the deployment of the Army that give us comfort to remain here. For now, we hear of threat to protest again. Army is going nowhere. Let the Army stay until we are sure of peace in Oyigbo.”

“Those who ran away should come back. The Army is not chasing any body. Army is not killing any person. Let the Army stay, until we are sure peace has returned.”

On his part, the Chairman of Oyigbo Local Government Area, Prince Gerald Oforji said most of the negative reports were unfounded.

“Today, I am very happy for the visit by the Ovation family to assess the wanton destruction carried out on the 20 October by the IPOB. Today ,they have come to assess and see things for themselves based on lopsided information they have been getting concerning Oyigbo.

“I believe with what they have seen today, the world, can confirm that most of those negative information posted against Oyigbo, against Rivers State, are unfounded.”

A tradition benin had let go off is what the ooni wants to institute

The benin tradition was put in place to protect the king from being killed by over zealous prince

In modern age nothing like that could happen again, but yorubas not knowing this wants to adopt it foolishly all in a bid to be like benin culture

Politics › Adaka Boro: Vindicating The Hausas And Yorubas by valirex(op):
Those who arrested and sentenced Isaac Adaka Boro to death for declaring Niger Delta Republic were neither Hausa-Fulanis nor Yorubas but two supposed brothers of his and Biafrans named Odumegwu Ojukwu and Aguiyi Ironsi who were still on the side of Gambaris and still trying to please them as at then. For declaring Niger-Delta Republic Ironsi, the then military head of state, ordered Ojukwu to get Isaac Boro arrested for treason. Ojukwu, in an attempt to please Gambaris, fought Isaac Boro for 14 days within which he used federal might of “one-Nigeria” to kill 150 soldiers loyal to Isaac Boro, caught Isaac Boro, stripped him naked and sent him over to Lagos where Ironsi charged him to court and within just 2 months got him convicted, at the Supreme Court, of treasonable felony of trying to break away from Azikiwe’s one Nigeria, got him sentenced to death by hanging. While Ironsi and Ojukwu did all that to Isaac Boro, they left untouched their own Igbo brother soldiers who planned a coup with which they killed Innocent Hausas, Yorubas, Niger Deltans, Middle belters leaving Igbo politicians unharmed despite they, like Zik and Okpara, were part and parcel of the corrupt Balewa government. However, before Ojukwu and Ironsi could execute their sentence on Isaac Boro God intervened and the counter coup happened. Ironsi was overthrown and killed. Gowon took over declared Isaac Boro innocent and released him. But just fifteen months later Ojukwu too declared Biafra Republic due to the way Igbos were being killed in the North. In declaring Biafra, rather than first apologise to Isaac Boro for what he earlier did to him and then ask for his cooperation in fighting to realize the Biafra dream, Ojukwu did nothing like that but without consulting Boro at all went as far as arrogantly including in his Biafra map the very Niger Delta areas which Isaac Boro earlier tried to pull out of Nigeria and which he (Ojukwu) nearly killed him for. This angered Isaac Boro and Ken Saro Wiwa who both pledged support for Gowon in order to teach Ojukwu a bitter lesson for his arrogance and dishonesty. That was why Isaac Boro and Saro Wiwa fought on the side of Gowon during the war. Naturally Isaac Boro couldn’t have come out of prison to join the Ojukwu who jailed him and fight against the Gowon who released him. It would have been absurd. No rational human being does that. This is the truth of what happened and which Igbos hate to hear but prefer to blame everyone else as if they themselves were 100℅ innocent. Igbos must learn to say the truth because if the Biafra/Niger Delta Republic they now seek is founded on lies and deliberate falsehood, like Nigeria, it will not stand but will soon become a failed state like Nigeria. We can’t leave Nigeria for another Nigeria. But we however know that Igbos allergy to truth is incurable, therefore Niger-Delta states will never be part of Biafra.
