And so? Soludo laid the foundations for Islamic banking in Nigeria. What does that make him? Really, whining about Islamic economics is one of the ways through which I identify ignorants. Perhaps it's the name. It is simply a system at the centre of which is the prohibition of usury and promotion of fairness in financial transactions, which by the way, is not unique to Islam. 18 Likes |

revolt: Bros, we no get MIGs. What we have are alpha jets. The newer Chengdu J-7 Airguards, which were developed from the MIG-21 (perhaps that's what you were referring to) that we have were purchased by Yar'adua. And since you said "thanks to military corruption..." don't you think a former military man (a general and head of state, no less) would have a much higher ability to curb military corruption than an academic who did not have anything to do with the military until he became it's commander-in-chief? |

papaejima1: Chief, do you not realize that 1984 was a long time ago? All the peacekeeping we've been going to, which equipment have we been using? Sierra Leone, Liberia, Sudan etc. And FYI, some of the Alpha jets bought during that time are still up and running. This I know for a fact. The jet that "disappeared" in Adamawa some time ago was one of them. If you don't believe me, Google is your friend. |

This is certainly not news to some of us. It's almost like standard procedure in Nigeria when a military head of state is ousted in a coup. Even the biography we read here on Nairaland mentioned that his personal property was looted. Buhari just doesn't want to talk about it, understandably. People forget IBB was his close friend and chief of army staff. Plus there's no contradiction here. There are supposed to be copies of Buhari's credentials with the military (unless of course what happened to the originals happened to the copies too). And I wouldn't be surprised if they're the only copies because this is a full-blood military man who has not had to submit his credentials to any organization outside of the military during his career up to the coup. 11 Likes |

I'm kinda lost here. First, he's very right that spreading fear is bad, however the Nigerian military have been known to downplay security incidents. Now that may well be purely because they don't want to spread panic, but then in the Nigerian political era of today it could be so as not to give the government a bad name. I think the truth, as they say, is somewhere in-between. As for the conversation, I think she took more offence than was meant (if any at all) and I'm sure the general must have heard of the incident before she did. 2 Likes |

LRNZH: So Buhari was never a coupist. He was chosen to lead the military government after the damage (of overthrowing a democratically-elected gov't) had been done. Q.E.D. 3 Likes |

eagleeye2: Read it properly. 12 Alpha Jets received in 1985. I knew because of the fact that deliveries for some of these stuff take time, that the imports chart for 84-85 might not necessarily mean it was Buhari that ordered all of them, some might have been by Shagari. But what it does settle is that Buhari did purchase defense equipment. And mind you this report is on aircraft alone. It says that Buhari's government was "committed to continuing the defence buildup planned by the previous administration. Many contracts have been renegotiated however, and options allowed to lapse. A reported 1984 reorder for 12 MiG-21s does not appear to have resulted in any deliveries so far... A second batch of 12 Alpha Jets was received in 1985, these aircraft being armed with gun pods for the attack role, replacing MiG-17Fs... Twelve AS.332 Super Pumas are believed to be on order, and some of the SA.330 Pumas may be returned to France in part payment..." The bolded clearly indicate activity during Buhari's regime. 3 Likes |

Not necessarily in terms of the figures, but that Buhari certainly purchased a lot more than a single rifle during his tenure. Okay MissMeiya and akereconfi, you guys should chill out. I hate it when civil discussions descend into insults. But I guess this is what happens sometimes when people jump into arguments without proper research simply because they find something hard to believe. 1 Like |

Flets: I don't know about Buhari's defense expenditure but I can tell you that as far as GEJ's defense expenditure is concerned, I'm more in the know about it than the average Nigerian and I can tell you that this government only started buying armored vehicles in 2014 (as far as taking delivery of them is concerned, at least) and the chart says GEJ's expenditure between 2010 and 2013. 2 Likes |

Even your boss that has been talking about "rifle" and "phone number" and "price of a Peugeot" (I still can't believe he said that) has not mentioned certificate because he knows it is a no-go area in the sense that he knows for a fact that Buhari's qualifications are indisputable. I still can't wrap my head around the thinking of some Nigerians who sincerely believe Buhari is an illiterate because he has so far not produced his particulars. 17 Likes |

Wait and see how some people will still try to twist and discredit this noble move. What's wrong with giving a thumbs up to this man and still supporting the candidate of your choice? 9 Likes 3 Shares |
