I get your point bro. But do you believe the person that makes the premature statement is actually working with ptdf? Initially, i even though they will release a list the way they use to in the past

The list will surely be released and it will make everything clear. They have to release the list for transparency and for the record as they always do.

China, Germany, Malaysia or UK? Which country

UK PhD. My friend too. So who knows, perhaps if the above posts about the notifications being premature are true then maybe only UK PhD awardees got mails yet. I really hope that’s the case. Anyone else in a different category who got a mail please indicate. Thanks.

Same here. What next?

They’ll give dates for induction. But they may likely spread it out due to COVID. Some were saying induction might be virtual. I doubt. As you can see the email says “Kindly note that you are to print and come along with the completed Bio-Data Page, Acceptance Letter…” plus credentials.

Please, any update on the PTDF list...Time is not our friend if September is considered for resumption

I’m sorry but September resumption for UK MSc scholars is highly unlikely. Here’s why. Say you already have admission, and say the list of awardees comes out by the end of this week, then induction starts next week (which is normally unlikely to be that immediate, plus now there’s covid protocols to be observed so it may be spread out over a longer period). Then you get your proof of funding letter next week, then send to your school, then get unconditional offer if you don’t already have that. Then get your CAS statement, without which you can’t start applying for visa. Let’s say 2-3 days for all that to happen because the schools are usually very quick to respond. Do a tuberculosis test, then you apply for visa. By then we’re already in the week of 23rd August. Then get a date for your visa interview say the following week. Do your interview then wait like 2 weeks for a decision to be made. Then retrieve your passport and your documents when they are brought back into the country (because they are taken to the UK to be processed). So we’re already in the week of 20th September. Once you have your visa, PTDF books flights immediately and you could be on your way in 48hrs. See? You would barely make it. And this is as I’ve used record time for every stage. If you will need an ATAS certificate, just forget it because that would require another couple of weeks.
Some UK schools have January start dates. But the end of the day, most UK awardees would have to defer till next year.

Am i the only one that feels this wait is becoming unbearable. It's close to three weeks since we had our interviews... Does anyone have an idea of what's happening?

If not by the end of this week, then not later than next week. It used to take much longer than 3-4 weeks after the interviews for the list to be out, but because they most likely have concluded MSc selection since a long time ago and only have PhD list to compile, they can manage it in 3-4 weeks. And this is July, time is running out for September entry so they would try and hurry. 2018 list came out in July. 2019 list came out in June.

PTDF COVID-19 REPONSE

As the dreaded COVID-19 pandemic made its entry into Nigeria the familiar pattern of disruptions already reported by global news media in countries that had recorded cases began to play out in Nigeria. From school closures and suspension of all local and international flights, various policies limiting large gathering of people were made and enforced by government. When the Federal government announced the gradual easing of lockdown in the affected states and partial resumption of government workers, the Presidential Task force on COVID-19 gave general guidelines to MDA’s and directed them to determine other risk reduction measures based on the peculiarities of their organization and sectors of operations. Accordingly, the Executive Secretary, PTDF, Dr. Bello Aliyu Gusau empanelled a committee to look at the impact of the pandemic on the operations of the Fund, and come up with a response plan.

The Committee Chair, Manager Education & Training Department, Haj. Rabiah Waziri-Adamu acknowledged the apprehension being faced by applicants whose interview for the 2020/2021 OSS scholarship were suspended as a result of the pandemic. It will be recalled that the interviews for the MSc. held in all the 6 geo-political zones while that for PhD held in only 2 centres. The PhD interviews in 4 centres were put on hold because of the pandemic. She said PTDF is studying the global response in terms of education before taking a decision on whether to go ahead to conclude the 2020/2021 interview. “If we decide to go ahead, we have to consider online interviews because the new normal is less physical interactions and use of ICT. We would have to look at the panel of interviewers and the high number of interviews to be conducted. All of this will determine how the interviews will be done, but right now we have put the interviews on hold and have not taken a decision while we watch the response from our partners. Some have said they will commence their sessions in September while others have not given a direction on the way forward, but we are awaiting further guidance in order to make a decision.”

The Fund has been in active engagement with its scholars studying abroad in this period of COVID-19 Pandemic. “For our engagement with scholars, we set up many virtual meetings with them. We have been engaging them since the COVID 19 breakout to know how they are faring and most of them told us that they have carried on with their studies online where the schools are offering online classes. It is only the PhD scholars who needed to be physically present at the labs that had to stop at some point because they could not carry on. The others were not really at risk because classes were holding online, and the schools put measures in place to ensure students could order food and have it delivered to them. For the local scholarship programme, all schools were shut down by the Federal government and the students are at home.”

The dynamic response plan by the Fund is aimed at transforming PTDF into a flexible, resilient organisation capable of adapting to gradual and sudden changes to its internal and external environments.

Nigeria extends ban on international flights

The Federal Government of Nigeria has extended the closure of the Nigerian airports for international flights till October 2020.

The Nigeria Civil Aviation Authority (NCAA) has issued a NOTAM (Notice to Airmen) to that effect informing stakeholders that the airspace would no longer reopen for international flights on August 19.

The Federal Government of Nigeria had suspended international flights in March following the COVID-19 pandemic but it recently reopened the airports for domestic flights.

However, there has been pressure, especially from tour operators and travel management companies on the government to lift the ban on international flights.

But the hope of those agitating for the reopening of airports for international flights has been further dashed following the extension of the ban from August till October.

The NOTAM read: “The Federal Government has extended the closure of our airports to all international flights with the exception of aircraft in a statement of emergency.”

However, the NOTAM indicated that approval may be requested and granted for “over-flights, operations related to humanitarian aids, medical relief flights, alternate aerodrome in the flight plan and also those being used for extended diversion time operation.”

Also approved for exemptions are “technical landings where passengers do not disembark and cargo flights and other safety-related operations.”

Such requests would be directed to the Minister of Aviation, Senator Hadi Sirika, the NOTAM issued by the NCAA DG, Capt. Musa Nuhu said.

In 2017, interviews/aptitude tests were not held till late July and the list came out early September. Most MSc scholars that year deferred till the following year while a few started in January (for the few programmes that have January start dates). So anything is still possible. Keep fingers crossed and pray.

Bauchi and Nsukka were 1-week centres, where Days 1-3 were for MSc and Days 4-5 for PhD interviews. So yes some PhD hopefuls have already done their interviews. The remaining 4 centres are 2-week centres, with the first week for MSc and the second week for PhD interviews. So the bulk of PhD hopefuls haven’t had their interviews.

Health / “An App That Could Help Ease The COVID-19 Lockdown” by vantage7: 7:25pm On Apr 25, 2020
Many states of the federation including the FCT have imposed a total lockdown as a way of curtailing the spread of COVID-19. However, people need to go out occasionally for food and other essentials, and as a result some cities allow a day or two during the week for that, which is not the best idea as the impact of all the social distancing observed during the week could be negated on that one day.

So here is an idea on how we could manage the situation better:

Oga pray o. Nothing is certain in life. And we are in Nigeria too and u know our country. U guys should contact PTDF o as they might not be aware that only two people made it. Tell them u are willing to go to other tuition free universities and explain IFP admission policy so they won't think it is u guys fault.

Finally, pray your name is in the list that will be published. If your name is published on the website, then u are certain of winning.

That’s true sha nothing is impossible in this country. But from what I know it is so highly unlikely that it is close to impossible sir.

If you don't want to quit your current job just stay there and kukuma turn down this offer so that the replacement invites being expected would be +1. grin Plus you don't want to be quitting E&P proper to come and become basically a process engineer. It is a change you won't like.

When mails were sent on January 25, how many souls attested to receiving the regret mails here on NL? Only one person - my delectable whatsupguys. And well about 200 regret mails were sent then. So the fact that no one has come up here since last week Thursday to attest to receiving the regret mail does not mean that nobody received it. You think it's easy to come up here to say 'I got a regret mail' after this looooong wait? Little wonder someone said that a person who got the recent regret regret mail deleted it immediately. Why do you think the person did that? One word: Frustration. So you expect such person to come up here to say 'Hey guys I got the regret mail'? very hard! Good enough, some persons have come up here to say that they know people who got the reject mails. This shows that they did really send regret mails on Thursday of last week. So, what I think we should be concerning ourselves with at this point is, how many of us are left and their plans for us, as the wait is damn is excruciating. I would suggest that those who can get reliable insider info should please do. I have so much mixed feelings here. A combination of hope and other inexplicable feelings. My trust is in the SUPREME JAH and I will always believe in his undeserved kindness.

On point! I mean, I didn't get any correspondence whatsoever which isn't nearly as conclusively end of the road as getting a regret mail but I couldn't even come up here and say anything rather I was just busy waiting and observing (though up until the close of work on Friday it was partly in hope that mails would still roll in so it wouldn't be that I spoke too soon)

Congratulations to all those who received success mails, hard luck to those that received regret mails and for the rest of us, may the odds be ever in our favour.
