Hello house, been silently following the thread. So I got PPR last year and did soft landing because I sort of wanted to get a job or at least be in the process of getting one before I move. I got the freetone app, included the number on my CV and applied for jobs. More recently, I started to contact talent attraction managers of the companies I was interested in on LinkedIn, it was hard for me to do but I decided to anyway since the worst I'll get is a "NO". Some didn't respond and I would send reminders after a week or two and I started getting positive replies, emails, phone interviews and video interviews. Summary is i just got a job in Canada right here in Nigeria. Although the job required someone with a CPA designation, i managed to convince them that i had ICAN which would make it easy when i want to obtain a CPA designation.

Just thought to encourage someone to TRY!

Incredible!! This is a testimony. My brother I hope u understand the context. This is something most say is impossible; just check quora.

TEECANN:

@rainazoe,

No, I am an ACA (ICAN qualified). Though I have my registration approval with CPA Ontario, I want to defer moves with that line of effort for some obvious reasons for now...I have consulted widely and I guess it's the best thing to do for now (especially considering what I want to do, career wise going forward)

Cheers man.

It will all end in praise IJN!

@TEECANN why are you not pursuing an accounting profession especially since you have obtained the highly elusive CPA designation? Which field is more lucrative for an accountant and what certifications are you pursuing. Please provide more insight.

Thanks to the person that introduced freetones here.

I purchased a number and opted for unlimited calls to and from US/Canada.

Just today i had my first phone interview with a Canadian employer. It was successful but unfortunately the job is starting too close to my landing date next week. Am suppose to meet with the manager and suppose to receiving some further training prior to the start date.

Another employer just contacted me for interview. Hopefully this one would click.

For all those hoping to get a job before leaving... its very possible. Package your resume... apply via indeed, job bank etc

Am landing Ontario next week. Any landed Nairalander with connect to IT jobs... please hook a brother up

Please could you shed more light on the steps you took? I'll like to get this in as much detail as possible. You used freetone for ur number. How about your address?

Romance / Re: Ladies! 8 Signs You Are Probably Dating A Married Man. by vascey(m): 12:11pm On Jan 29, 2018
Rigel95:
1.HIS RING FINGER.
While most married men are smarter now and would not go out with another woman, with the wedding ring on, you should look for the dark spot on the finger where a ring must have been removed hours earlier.

2.YOU CAN ONLY SPEAK WITH HIM AT ODD HOURS.
Does he call only at lunch (when he is alone at work) or late in the night when the missus must have been asleep?

3.DOES HE GO OUT WITH YOU ONLY TO FAR LOCATIONS?
Men who do this, usually chose far locations from where either one of you lives to reduce the possibility of his wife or someone else sighting him on his escapade with you.

4.HE ACTUALLY GOES OUT WITH YOU TO A PUBLIC PLACE, BUT...
He is obviously ill at ease and frequently looks to his sides-which is unlike him. Chances are, he is afraid he might get found out and busted while with you. He may equally prefer you guys sit around corners and darker places.OR he tries to hide his face on seeing some people.

5.YOU DO NOT KNOW HIS HOUSE.
So you have been going out with him for some time but he has never deemed it fit to let you know his house. Chances are he has woman tucked somewhere(probably kids too) he doesn't want you to learn about.

6.YOU KNOW HIS HOUSE BUT...
You notice all the kitchen gadgets....Toaster, deep-fryer,grills, special ovens, grinder, egg mixing machine, yam pounder,yam-peeler etc. Except he is a chef, then the woman of the house is probably in another state or (abroad )and will claim her man from you the moment she's back!

7.HE DOES NOT INTRODUCE YOU TO HIS FRIENDS!

8.YOUR INSTINCTS SAY SOMETHING'S WRONG.
Your instints are there for a reason . Most times when you suspect foul play from a man, chances are you are probably right.

Like they care. undecided

Is the job IT Audit or just normal Audit,
and security clearance could be complex if it is reliability status or secret.
But if its the normal security check and employer does before taking you on then that very easy

I think its something to do with secrecy. Could you shed more light on this? What is the process? Is it something that can be gotten by an immigrant? if yes, what are the requirements?

security clearance or police check? Police check can take maybe 2 weeks. You need 2 pieces of govt issued ID and in Calgary it costs about $25-30.

Thanks vcole. So it's not a big deal then.

All the posters before me, this is Nigeria. The lady is more connected than the driver. Infact highly connected. All the actors and actresses and music super stars plus big time politicians that love them will stand behind her and turn this case against the poor driver.

On another note, we still aren't sure of what happened that night and who to blame.

Which stars? If them born them well! The few idiots among them that have made foolish statements have been forced to swallow their poo. Can they stand against the public.

As to your second point, that is why they need to go to court to prove their case. This is a very welcome development. It's just that the money he is asking for is too small. Like Maziomenuko said, the National Assembly needs to be petitioned on this matter. We cannot have wicked girls throwing around these accusations any how.

Politics / Re: Senator Mustapha Sani Mohammed Commissions Electric Pole In His Constituency by vascey(m): 8:26am On Jan 23, 2018
deomelllo:
Nigerian youths are just so useless, ignorant, illogical and unintelligent. So, some blogger made up a story with a picture of some people and an electric pole and all of a sudden, they are commissioning ordinary electric pole.

Have any of you low-grade thinkers seen the original story per the exact occasion? What was exactly commissioned or even the reason why they took pictures standing next to the electric pole?

You illogical thinking people actually think the whole town, the emir and the federal senator gathered just to commission an ordinary pole with no meaning or any significance like kicking off a project like electrification project.

I know many Nigerian bloggers are click bait crooks and deceptive elements, but the clickers, online low-grade thinkers and enablers are even worse.

And they call many of these low IQ people leaders of tomorrow. SMH.

Your argument is very sound albeit aggressive. Calm down bro!

Yet your logical reasoning is faulted by one very little thing- experience.

We were all here in this country when Okorocha commissioned statues, not one but a few.

So.. going by your argument, he's a state governor, it was a statufication project (I grant you that) and also many people, including the Vice President came to witness it.

Based on this precedence, it could be said that sometimes Nigerian leaders do commission silly things and it may not be far fetched that "the Honorable Federal Senator" did, in fact, go there to commission an electric pole.

Still, it is most plausible that they are gathered for initiation of an electrification project. I have often wondered why ground laying ceremonies are treated with unnecessary fanfare. It means nothing until the project is completed. So if the Emir went to that place to witness the beginning of a project that may never come to an end, OYO is his case.

Ultimately, bloggers please blog responsibly.

Greetings from Calgary! And Happy New Year everyone...

We had a friend help us check out an apartment, filled out the application and all, only to find out while in transit that she declined our application cos we didn't have jobs (though my friend had told her we are new PR immigrants before she sent us the application),anyways, we found another place just before Christmas..

1st January: Had to go get formula for my lil'lady and decided to go with the bus for the first time since I was going alone (we had been uber-ing around with the baby cos of subzero temperatures)
Needed to get 2 buses there...planned the journey with Google Maps...the first bus was delayed 40mins!!!, this should have been a good time to go back to our warm flat, but I was determined (BTW, did I mention it was -20degrees with wind chill of about -35?)
Second bus was delayed another 20mins...at that point I was sure I was going to freeze to death...my fingers were freezing in my gloves! Got to the store and wandered around to get warm, bought the formula and decided Uber cos I cannot come and kill myself, got my phone out, and the battery just drained suddenly from 60%...
Stood by the exit asking people to help with uber so I give them cash, but most people have cars hence no uber app, finally got a Congolese guy who was kind enough to get me home, thank God...a 30mins store run took about 4hours...oh well, got a story out of it...

So far, so good...we have met with settlement and career advisors with different agencies while applying for jobs...general advice has mostly been NETWORKING! Based on this, I have revived my LinkedIn account smiley

Would really appreciate advice from those who have settled in who might have an idea of /leads for paid or unpaid internships in the public health/ not for profit sector and Architecture as well...

Well done. Thank you so much for telling us about your landing. I hope it encourages others to do same.

If I may ask, how did you eventually get accommodation? Did you have to wait till you go employed or you got an understanding landlord? Do you still think it is possible to do this online before arrival (besides Airbnb)

I am shocked to hear about the bus delays. For an environment with such extreme weather, 40 mins in the cold could be the difference between life and death; especially for a pregnant woman or some sick person. Isn't there a way to track the movement of the bus. I mean besides the schedule, actually knowing where the bus is via GPS and estimating the time to arrival to your bus stop.

Finally, please how long did it take to get your health card upon landing? I mean how long did it take for you to access the free healthcare in Calgary?

Crime / Re: Killed Rivers worshippers update: Don Wani gunned down By Military Team by vascey(m): 9:56am On Jan 07, 2018
Also heard It on Naija Info Radio Station. Those who live by the gun shall surely die by it. Thank God for the people of Omoku. Hopefully this will free them from the bondage they have endured for a long time.

I hope this does not end the 31st December Rivers killing investigations. I know Don wanny is the main militant in that area but I wouldn't know what the motive is for a fugitive on the run to kill that number of innocent worshippers.

It should not be assumed that he killed those people just because he's the prevalent virus over there. It is suspicious and out of character especially for someone on the run.
The investigation should be thorough and conclusive so that the perpetrators will be brought to book. I also hope this swift "justice" is not an attempt to cover up anything. They should have brought him in alive to tell us what his grouse was with those innocent people he killed just like they did in Anambra- not that Don Wanny doesn't deserve death 100 times over.

This should also have been an opportunity to unearth his political sponsors, his partners in police, SARS, military, DSS. Believe it or not, elements in these forces aided and abetted Don Wanny.

Omoku has been ruled by one militant after another. Can this serve as an opportunity to rid that area of militants forever or are we going to repeat the same cycle. The government should step up in ending violence in Rivers state.

I also hope that one day the political sponsors of Don wanny will be brought to justice. They are the true killers here.

I suspended everything till I got PUM jare. Only the Tax & Law course was outstanding as at October. Just did it and sent to them yesterday. Got automated response that they were swamped and may not respond until mid January. Planning to land in April when winter must have packed it's load and gone so I wasn't in a rush. Hope I get inducted by April ending or May if possible.

Congrats man. You are almost there. Whats your background in terms of experience? Have you explored getting a job before landing? Did you have to submit notarized copies of birth certificate and passport at any time? What is PUM?

Muchaio:

I also had the request to send certified cheque for the Tax & Law course. Was however able to bypass and pay with my card by using a Canadian address to register. Had to pay GST & HST tho but I was able to register and conclude within 2 days.

That's a much better option. I tried to explore that but they insisted I pay via cheque from my country. Took about 3 weeks to get the cheque and it's been enroute for an additional 4 weeks.

Mailed them today and they informed me they had a cheque which they could not tie to an applicant. Thankfully I scanned mine and sent them a copy. Unfortunately it's not mine. Yet I wonder whose cheque is with them.

So if anyone here sent a cheque of 495 CAD to CPA BC for law and tax course without inserting the details, contact them (with details of your cheque- number and date) because they have an outstanding cheque without sender.

Muchaio how far with your process? Have you sent all your required documentation? When are you going to be inducted?
