Programming / Re: Share Your Remote Job Experience As A Developer by vaspire: 4:02pm On Jul 06, 2020 |
Why do I not believe this story? As a front-end developer in one of the banks in Nigeria, E2 level salary is 250,000 naira a month which is already more than $500 dollar you claim that your international company pay you. I would have believed this story if the salary is $50000 not $500. Please go and look for a job in a Nigerian company if you are really good. They pay more than that and some even allow remote work. I know people working remotely as software developers. Their salary is either close to a million or more than and some work as from 3:00 am. I really doubt if any reasonable company will give you the time you say you work irrespective of the time zone. I know we all want attention but let us not use lies to shame others! |

[quote author=thenaijacoder post=91382630]There is more to remote jobs than you think. Here is my personal experience. Recently, i received a mail from a remote american tech company that i applied for. I was informed, that an interview will take placed few days, i prepared for the interview and the day came , lot of questions were asked that questioned my experience in web development. Finally the interview was over, but still i felt that i really embarrassed myself and messed up but i kept my fate. Two days later, i received a mail from the same company where all the company guidelines, workflows and other necessary information i needed to get started were contained. I resumed work a week after, soon i decided to set up my work environment just for me to realize i will be working actively at midnight from 11:30 - 6:30 due to time zones difference. So basically, my life was staying on the PC every night and i adapted to it to the extent that i might not use my PC yet i can't sleep at night. Soon after, i felt ill for 3 days after 4 weeks of sleepless nights and i was advised to reduce my working time and sleep often. Knowing it was dangerous for my health, i cut my working time to 4AM and i will be off to bed. This step almost cost me my job because i published a new feature to the company product but i didn't include proper documentation of what the feature does and the developers and the members were annoyed with me to that. Since it was a remote company though they have an office at California, most of their members work remotely, the company meetings are always held on Thursday via Google Meet and i have been marked absent for 3 times in a row which is really bad for my report. I was warned if i miss the next meeting, there is a possibility that i might be on probation or worst relieved of my role. NB: I work as a frontend developer using Vuejs as my core language. Suzzyyy:For 3years now, you should know where this relationship is getting to and if you don't trust this guy, you won't still be in a relationship with him. If you love and trust him, help him out with the money but if it will affect your business you can take off what will sustain you and give him the rest. Say give him 500k or 400k depending on how much you are putting into your business. Trust me this guy will forever be grateful whether the relationship works out or not.We should also learn to give without expecting anything back in return so please don't give because he will marry you in future because that's where it will hurt the more if it didn't work out. If you are able to raise such amount yourself, even if he goes away with it which is what I'm sure you are afraid of, you will still make this money back. There is more to relationship and friendship than just MONEY. If you can't sacrifice now, are you sure you will be able to sacrifice for him in future if such case arises. Love requires sacrifice, I'm sure you know that before you agree to date him. 1 Like |

Science/Technology / Articles On Technology/technology Trends by vaspire: 8:39am On May 26, 2018 |
Developer's Mask: What does Technology mean to you? There is this saying that behind every successful man there is a woman. While that is arguably and laughable too, it is safe to say that behind every developer, there's an intention. This intent could be money, fame or a product to engineer social good. Often I ask myself; what does technology mean to an average Nigeria Developer? Having been in Nigeria tech ecosystem for a while, I realize that for an average Nigeria developer, the driving force is basically money. I can understand this. If you have ever live in a country where you have to provide virtually everything for yourself; electricity, internet, water and a lot. You will realize that when you are trying to survive as a human, you will use every skill at your disposal to make few changes to improve your life. Evidently why the average Nigeria developer push products that would pay to the bank (first) than solving a social cause. If it does, it won't be sustainable. Nevertheless, some products such as PayStack have gone ahead to be a global brand, solving issues and very sustainable. Today, I read a post by Jan Koum and my perspective changed as a Nigeria Developer. Its longer news that Koum left Facebook on April 30th, 2018. “Who is Jan Koum”, you ask. I forgive a none-tech enthusiast but for you a tech enthusiast, I will give bar knock . Jan Koum is one of the primary founders of WhatsApp before it was sold to Facebook. However, Koum have been part of the Facebook community after the acquisition. With a Facebook post, Jan Koum signed off the Facebook executive community. “It’s been almost a decade since Brian and I started WhatsApp, and it’s been an amazing journey with some of the best people. But it is time for me to move on. I’ve been blessed to work with such an incredibly small team and see how a crazy amount of focus can produce an app used by so many people all over the world. I’m leaving at a time when people are using WhatsApp in more ways than I could have imagined. The team is stronger than ever and it’ll continue to do amazing things. I’m taking some time off to do things I enjoy outside of technology, such as collecting rare air-cooled Porsche, working on my cars and playing ultimate Frisbee. And I’ll still be cheering WhatsApp on — just from the outside. Thanks to everyone who has made this journey possible. ” Mark replied with a comment; “Jan: I will miss working so closely with you. I’m grateful for everything you’ve done to help connect the world, and for everything you’ve taught me, including about encryption and its ability to take power from centralized systems and put it back in people’s hands. Those values will always be at the heart of WhatsApp.” After reading through post, I picked few things that are pertinent as a developer. 1. The goal should be to solve a problem: As a developer, the only reason why I should create a product is to solve problem. Money is good, Fame is sweet but just like the biblical quote “Seek ye the first, kingdom of God and every other thing shall be added unto you”. Developers should have a creative mindset as such. Create a unique product, first to solve a problem, and then we talk about the business. 2. It's cool to Outsource: While it is good to keep faith with your product, it's wisdom to understand and know when to outsource some creative efforts to a wider platform. Leverage on existing platforms to accelerate your growth, both professionally and your product. Should Koum had held unto WhatsApp until now, it can only be imagined what it's fate could have been. Taking that creative decision to sell and have a stake in the company is beautiful. It gave him the professional burst and of course, WhatsApp scaled profitably over the years and still scaling. It's a win-win for all. Product on flick, money to the bank. 3. It's cool to take a walk: On April 30,2018, Koum walked finally. Maybe he wants to try something new. He probably left to do things he mentioned he loved to so; like collecting air-cooled porches and playing ultimate Frisbee. The truth is, irrespective of whatever that led him to leave Facebook at time is important to him. To try new things. That one product sold amazingly and is solving its problem, there could be more. You just have to know when to walk and watch from a distance while you get your hands dirty again. It's all about continuity and posterity. A developer shouldn't sleep after one successful product, do more.

Romance / Re: It Started With Just A Silence by vaspire: 10:26pm On Oct 14, 2017 |
When Nkiru and Uju talked about my appearance, I totally understand. Who was I really? My name is Ada. A typical example of a village girl. I left my home at age 1 to live with grandma because mum took in not up-to a year after my birth. Because of the fear that I will fall ill, grandma volunteered to raise me. You could say I wasn't breastfeed for up-to a year . Even though parents resides in the city, story has it that I never for once cried to follow my mum back anytime she visits and because grandma has grown fond of me, mum didn't see any reason to take me along. I guess you now know they type of life I lived before gaining admission . It was a routine lifestyle, from home to school or market or church. I didn't have that proper orientation when my first monthly Aunty visited. I was so scared and when grandma told me that if a guy touch me, I will get pregnant and that will ruin the beautiful future I had of becoming a Medical Doctor, I swear that day that a man will never touch me in this lifestyle. Little wonder Individuals avoided any gathering of men (lol) . But then when I got admission, I saw a different world and different sets of people different from what grandma has only describe for me. For example, Nk and Uju seems cool with guys touching them (not that kind touching you are thinking now). I remember vividly Uju jumping on one of the guys on our hostel one day and I was expecting her to get pregnant the next day but that didn't happen (that was in our year one anyways). The day I finally let her know of what I taught that day, she couldn't help but call me village girl. I must admit that am learning things I wasn't taught from her and I was really learning fast. Having said this, I wouldn't attribute my way of dressing or appearance to my village life. Of course I would have learnt it from her since we have stayed two years already but in my learning process with her, I found out I have grown to love and cherish my simplicity both in dressing and look. Finally with much disturbance, I gave Tony my hostel address (now you know his name) and he showed up with his soon to be Barrister cousin Ike. |

The next day he was at my school and ask to see me. Being that kind of shy of a girl who was raised by her village grandma and was taught that ordinary touching from a guy could get you pregnant. I almost decline but with much persuasion from my roommate Uju and her friend Nkiru , we all ended up at Domino's Pizza at the eve of that day. Behold, standing infront of us, a tall fair handsome man who seems more handsome than what I saw on facebook. Could it be that facebook has a way of hidding the looks of men? When he smiled, I could see his neatly arranged thirty - two teeths as if he was created to just smile with them. My roommate and her friend were satisfied with this creature here that the conversation seem endless and one would imagine he actually came for either of them. Meanwhile he made sure we ate to our satisfaction and even took some home. On getting home, these two ladies sat me down for a lecture. They told me how big a fish I have caught. Babe the guy is into you! Could imagine even though you didn't alter a word during the conversation, he kept starring at you... Uju finally spoke out. Am sure he wished she came alone, he would have eaten her raw with his sexy eyes ... Nkiru added. Honestly that wasn't one of my problems that night, I was hoping the lecture ends soon so I can go prepare for the real lecture which I have the next day by 8am, but the two ladies seems to enjoy themselves with the lecture so I decide to play along by listening. Don't use this your Sister Mary lifestyle and chase this guy ooo... In fact I will be in charge of selecting the cloths you put on. This is Nkiru the fashionista reminding me how good I should look to make sure this guy stays. And Nk is it only cloth, she better start making up. Thank God she is my roommate and my make up kit is in this room, She dare not leave this room to meet this guy without having a nice look. Lekwanu mu! This guy has not even said what is on his mind and you guys are here reading mind. Oya Nk Biko take Uju to your room to complete the planning let me face my book. As I make move to stand and disengage from their discussion, I got a message. On opening it, the message reads "Thank you for your time today, looking forward to the day you will invite me to your lodge. And may I ask, what should I get for you that day? My regards to your friends and Takia. I gave out a brief smile and the next thing I heard was "Love nwantiti" ofcourse Uju read the message with me without my notice. |

TV/Movies / Re: TSTV Launches In Nigeria: Channels, Packages, Subscription & Decoder Prices by vaspire: 3:42pm On Sep 23, 2017 |
[quote author=thesicilian post=60694800] This sounds too good to be true. What people don't know is that DSTV have the exclusive right to show Premiere League and Champions League in Nigeria while Kwese TV have the right in Africa. No other Digital Television and I repeat no other Digital Television can show it Unless they are striped of their right. Have you ever wondered why Startimes can't show this league? Is not because they don't have the money to go for it but there is how all these things work just like DSTV can't show Bundelisga and Seria A and even Copa America. Once you buy these rights, it will stay for some agreed number of years before it can be negotiated or before the owners decide to give another person the right if necessary. Saying TSTV will show these leagues for now is like saying Lukaku will play for Chelsea on their next match. Unless DSTV borrow the right to them of which am not seeing possible. And saying you can pause your subscription on a Pay TV whenever you like is like saying this company want to go Bankrupted before starting. Anyways we are all in Nigeria and time will tell. Unless they have time and Conditions applied else don't be SuSurprise they turn out to be Nigeria Politicians who says A and do B. My opinion though. 1 Like |

cortix: Hi, you should know that Java is entirely different from JavaScript which is a scripting language mostly use for app development and dynamism of a website. If you are a beginner, I do advice you start with JavaScript as Java is more complicated than JavaScript and as a beginner you might giving up to becoming a programmer if you start with Java especially if you are learning it the hard way (tutoring yourself). And if you which to start with JavaScript, codeacedemy is so cool to learn it. Tutoring myself too as a beginner. Learnt HTML and CSS with rithmschool.com and learning JavaScript with codeacedemy. And am finding it pretty cool and easy. Hope this helps. Goodluck. 1 Like |

He is from my local government and how come I never knew we went to the same secondary school because I was still in JSS 1 when his mate graduated from our school. We exchange numbers so I could update him on the outcome. The next day, I walked into the Postgraduate studies to make my enquires and behold his name was there... The next minute, I was dialing his number ASAP. You name came out! I could hear my voice away from myself that eyes around all rolled towards my direction. Didn't even notice till after I said "You are welcome" to a soft voice saying "thanks"from the other end of the line. Fast-forward to 2days latter, he was in my school and the next is....... |
