No, an atheist president is not the way forward for Nigeria, that is, if the assumption is that she should wage war against the current religions and impose atheism instead.

No Nigerian president should be allowed to impose their religion on others. If the atheist gets away with imposing atheism, a Spaghetti Monsterist might take over at the following election and use the precedent set to impose Spaghettism on us. I am sure no one would like their children to have to say the Pastarferian Prayer at school assembly every morning.

Our pasta, who art in a colander, draining be your noodles. Thy noodle come, Thy sauce be yum, on top some grated Parmesan. Give us this day, our garlic bread, …and forgive us our trespasses, as we forgive those who trample on our lawns. And lead us not into vegetarianism, but deliver us some pizza, for thine is the meatball, the noodle, and the sauce, forever and ever. R’amen.
In the name of the pasta, and the sauce and of the meatballs, may you never be starve of garlic bread.... R amen

that's a very good explanation

If I'm brain dead, I'm no longer me I'm afraid

If I no longer have memory of my family, daughter, former colleagues, bossiness associates, where I've been, friends, well wishers, neighbours, each names of the listed, best food, goals, achievements, milestones, girlfriend, past girlfriends, the happy and sad moments, the ups and downs

Then I'm no longer "Me", Yes! I'd still be me according to Olodumare (assuming he exists and Yoruba traditional belief is true) but that's as good as me remembering my computer is still mine despite the fact that I just formatted it. To me, its still my computer but to the computer (assuming its totally wiped clean and only hardwares are intact) its a NEW computer which its master is now putting to use

I think the difference boils down to what view we have of it, the view of the computer about itself is limited so it sees itself as new while the maker or user knows that its not new. I think I am the computer and Olodumare is the User or maker
i like the computer analogy you input to the discussion. when a computer is formatted, a new operating system is install . without operating system a computer is just a pile of of metal. so the operating system make the computer whom it is. it is through the operating system you can labelled it mackintosh ,windows or Linus.... assuming you formatted a window 7 system to window 8 version. the hard drive will still keep your data but it just that it has been cover by new data. and the existing data can be retrieved by so many wizard software.... such is the case of human too. you can tap into your unconscious mind. that is what babalawo are doing, they look into whom you are as a person , and tell you the traces to follow so that you will not fall into the same mistake. and many occultist group too. you can ask sarasin to teach you how you can tap into your subconscious mind. i do not guaranty him but i have read some information on his tread... you can give it a try...

Nice!

2. is it possible to solve all the challenges in one's previous life?

1. I'm finding this hard to understand, as far as I my knowledge is concerned, those thoughts prejudices and experiences are actually what makes me, without these things I'll be blank and since there's nothing in this life I'll take to the next life (except the blank state I got in here with) then "me" is just meaningless

I'm finding it hard putting my thoughts to words right now but I hope you'll be charitable enough to fill in the blanks
2 Yes you have the chances to select your destiny, apart from race , gender and color. these are fixed. every challenges man face is as a result of his handwork. It is your birthright to be happy, joyful and be successful.

1 Let me start with a question... what experience, thoughts and prejudice will a dead toddler or infant possess ? you are only thinking this way because you have grown to store all these in your memory. imagine you suddenly have a brain damage where you have to forget everything you stored in there... will it stop making you whom you are?

The real you is your unconscious mind, let me tell you little thing about it.

The concept activation and primitive association learning most and often occur unconsciously while anything complex requiring flexible responding or higher mental process couldn't.... To what extent are human aware of and were able to report the true causes of their behavior? The simple answer is not very well.....in a nutshell ,actions precede reflection...

In reality your conscious mind is just the connection between the “real you” (unconscious mind and your interaction with physical reality, environment etc. As such, your conscious mind cannot actually display something that is not a part of you. But neither can it display all parts of you in any given moment.

How will you explain these theories?

Baby born with talented skills like drawing, singing , swimming etc without learning it.....people call it inborn talent or genetic factor... But I call it element of reincarnation... for example the identical twins. ...identical twins are a result of spitted egg...look at the difference in their temperaments even with the same genetic factor....so many example i can give..

That's educating

1. So it's not really me that's reincarnating? I mean I'm stripped of all memories, thoughts, prejudices and experiences so did I "reincarnate"? seems to me like whatever makes me up is gone and my spirit just enters another womb

2. Does this mean that the bad we experience in this life is caused by our choices in previous life?
2 whatever that is the problem we are facing currently are part of the challenges we left unsolved in our previous life. while the good side of our previous life continue with us unless it is alter by ourselves ....

1 The real you is your subconscious mind. not the knowledge you feed in to your memory in previous life. you were born blank.... without information ...... or your thought, prejudice and experience were as result of the society you found yourself...

So I'm still gonna live another life? would I have the memory of this life in my next life? And shat are you views on suicide considering this belief of yours, I could just kill myself if I feel life isn't dealing me the hand I want so I can reincarnate and probably get dealt a better hand, what are your thoughts?
You can't remember the past because you will not bring your memory with you. You died, your memory died .

This is the good news! You get to start this new life completely fresh, without worrying about all the traumatic experiences you had in your previous lives. Imagine if you carried with you in each life that terrible memory from 10,000 BC when you were swallow by a big snake while hunting ..... Some things are really better off forgotten.......

For the suicidal, you only kill the body and not the spirit itself. The spirit imperishable and immortal..... If you do not correct your issues in this life time , you are still coming back to meet the same problem.....so you have to fix it now .....so that it will not become known phenomenon in the family .......

Does the Yoruba ancestral realm have a sort of description like Heaven? Is it beautiful and big and sparkling? Or does it look just like Earth or the realm where the normal humans live? I'm sorry, I just find this so awesome, and since I'm a huge fantasy writer I'd really love to incorperate traditional Yoruba mythology and spiritual concepts into some stories I write.
Nothing like heaven or hell in yoruba traditional believe....The concept of orun apadi and orun rere is liking to Abarahamic believe that was introduce into Yoruba society.our believe evolve around these 16 truth i listed below.

1 This is a benevolent universe created by a benevolent oludumare

2 fear comes from ramifications of short time thinking, with long time thinking. you need have no fear.

3 There is a single creative force olodumare

4 Waiting to transition with judgmental GOD and a non existence devil. steals your future.

5 It is your birthright to be joyful , successful and be loved.

6 Personal empowerment is the path of success and fulfillment.

7 You are part of the universe in a never ending symbiotic relationship.

8 Character determines the outcome

9 All supremacy is evil

10 You must never initiate harm to another human being

11 You must never harm the universe of which you are part

12 Discrimination is personally and culturally destructive.

13 Diversity is the template of olodumare(GOD)creation.

14 You select your destiny.

15 Divination provides a road map to your destiny.

16 You can not fix things. you must repair what is actually causing the problem.

our Ancestor are apes like creature , they are called Australopithecines. apes and homo sapiens evolve from them.therefore apes are our closer cousin not ancestor which is probably the reason they have not evolve into something like us.

Why does good things also happen to wicked people?

Does it mean God is merciful to the wicked but unfair to righteous people suffering?

When you ask these questions alongside what the OP asked...you'll have a broader perspective to this "organized chaos" called life...
I will answer you with a Yoruba proverb that says in evil there exist good and in good there exist evil .

everything on earth is balance on both positive and negative..........as good as water maybe, it can leads to hyponatremia. And as bad as war maybe it enriched the winner

Science does not have limitations. Human beings do. Science is just one more tool we use to understand the world we live in. It sets up criteria by which we judge. Otherwise, any statement could be accepted as the way things are and there would be no way to ascertain if Obatala created the first human or Yahweh done it instead. They can't both have created the first human afterall.

One should be careful of anthropomorphosising science, or philosophy for that matter. And filling the gaps of ones ignorance with gods is sheer laziness, in my opinion.
your reply here is not sound enough....I know you better than this...

Science is just a tool like hammer, it is good for certain jobs and others not so well.....

Science is a powerful tool which has few limits within it's own world, but there are many aspects of the human experience for which science is not applicable. Ethics, morality and empathy....all these human facet exist outside of science...

Science is base on objective evidence...... The constraints we set for ourself to achieved mental stability.... For example , science can not objectively prove two people see "red" in the same way. When I see red, do you see red, or do you actually sense blue?

Those scientists that say that subjective answer is nonsense can't justify that position except by saying it forcefully. Philosophers call them "physicalists" it means people who believe that if it isn't part of science, it is not part of reality. but that is fallacy on its own

Obatala and yahweh are not the main issue here , what if they are the same but diffrent in name base on tthe language of the people that subscribe to this believe. Can you proof scientifically that they are not the same.....Note, I am not given a valid evidence that they are the same.... But what if "" they are the same""

Japanese scientist are given subjective names to new element.....have you heard of nihonium... Later on. it will be adopted all over the world and it will be objective name.....

I agree science is useful to achieve objective truth but not the absolute truth.

For example, what is responsible for instincts and intuitive knowledge in Man and animals?

I'm not obliging you to answer this though...it's just a rhetorical question...
Yes, science has limitations. only an ignorance will not accept it. but science deserve an applause. not knowing the answer for now those not have bearing on the veracity of scientific theory. what i mean is, it is not the answers to these question where the theory presently draws its strength, so an absence of answers does not falsify the theory. At least science was able to prove the 10th cousin and great9 grandparents, of chicken. the jungle fowl. more rigorous exploration and pursuit are still needed to come into conclusion. which i think science is incapable for now.

I would not agree, and separating them makes for either a bad philosopher or a bad scientist. They may be different aspects of study, but in practice, the two, as methods of enquiry, must go together or that enquiry is not as wholesome or robust as can be. Even courses in either include the other.

Newton himself eventually combined the two, philosophically seeking the philosophers stone then scientifically applying the knowledge he derived to make himself a very wealthy man.

You yourself already combine them when you state "both of them can be combine[d] to study the assumptions, implications and limitations of natural science", and also when you claim, "the benchmark of science is logic and intuition. it is the duty of logic to occasionally tell science to adjust its perspective".

Goes to show how intertwined philosophy and science is, and should be, and separating the two, or doing one without the other can be perilous.

Christianity Etc › Re: Who Is Oduduwa? by vaxx(op): 2:09pm On Feb 11, 2018
The chain is actually a symbolic representation.

Before oduduwa arrival, the Yoruba had no actual king but were led by a council of babalawo (the Ogboni), headed by the head priest of Obatala. They were amongst the last people on Earth to never have engaged in war. While they lived a state of pure peace, Oduduwa understood the nature of war, something that was becoming increasingly present in Africa at the time stimulated by Asiatic invasions. He understood this because he was a great prince who had traveled across the continent seeking the joys of adventure.

When he traveled east to the Nok trading partner, Kush, due to his excellent skills in battle, he was conscripted by Pharaoh Piankhi to help him defend Africa. While the Black Carthaginians (called the 24th-Dynasty Meshwesh) had controlled Kemet for some time, their last king sought to ally with the Asiatics in exploiting Kemet. Oduduwa then joined Piankhi's army and they expelled the Asiatics and forced the Carthaginian Meshwesh princes to submit to Kushite leadership. This was the first time Oduduwa witness the ways of the Asiatics and the degree of blood-thirstiness in their war tactics. He then fled back to Nok to report what was happening at the gates of Africa. FMCASH

He was then informed by the wise elders that the Asiatics are relentless and will eventually make their way through the gates of Africa in Kemet and march on to destroy the birthplace of wisdom, Ife, the holiest place on Earth.

Long before this could occur, Oduduwa set to establish a kingship in Ife that would maintain the first spiritual system of humankind but also involve the militaristic and political governance that could defend Ife when the time arrived.

Oduduwa successfully established Ife's first military and the beginnings of kingship in alliance with the priesthood were born. This became known as the Oduduwa Dynasty for his sons were assigned leadership of various city-states throughout Ancient Nigeria, even outside of Yorubaland. For instance, it was his son Oranmiyan who was sent to Benin City and left them an heir to rule in his place, Eweka. It is through Eweka that the Benin kings are linked to Oduduwa and the Yoruba culture as a whole.

Though the Yoruba had not known war, the establishment of a military government adjoined with the priesthood proved essential as the domino effect of war made it from West Asia to Yorubaland. For this, Oduduwa was deified and somewhat merged as a successor to Obatala's peace; a successor that understood the importance of a more militaristic reality than Obatala. The Yoruba fended off Islamic advancement for many centuries as well as European exploitation. However, war between African groups weakened the Yoruba and their empire collapsed, allowing for infiltration by Europeans.
Christianity Etc › Re: Where Exactly Is Garden Of Eden??? by vaxx:
budaatum:
Science is the systematic enterprise that builds and organizes knowledge in the form of testable explanations and predictions about the universe.

The benchmarks are that it be testable, and that its predictions are verifiable. It has never departed from philosophy. The two go hand in hand.

What we are discussing here is an attempt to demystify the past. Early 'science' said a god done it. More recent science has made claims that are much closer to the truth than early science gave us. And, considering the greater opportunity early scientists have, and their opportunity to stand on the shoulders of all those who came before them, it is only personel bias that would make a reasonable person deny all the evidence provided and accept the earliest myths as being more accurate. And that's ok as a personal choice in ones personal realm.

Would I allow, if I were in the position to be allowing that is, the early science to be taught as opposed to modern day science? My answer is no! Countries that don't teach and practise modern day science tend to not create much for starts as they have no factories and more places of worship. Their people are unemployed and end up purchasing from those who do teach and practise modern day science. Such countries are called third world and considered underdeveloped at best, and the young would rather emigrate than stay in such countries that worship the gods but seem to be god forsaken!
You yourself already separate them in your writing, science deals with with observable and experimentation of data, philosophy focus on nature of knowledge{ reality, existence and experience) which largely fall into logic and intuition.

many field are limited to science. example? ethics, moral and so on.

Historically, philosophy is the queen of all sciences. Newton referred to himself as a "natural philosopher", while the term "scientist" did not emerge until the 19th century . However, today science and philosophy are two roughly dividable cultures of epistemic activity. the former is reflective while the later is empirical. they are two distinct different field. but both of them can be combine to study the assumptions, implications and limitations of natural science itself.

the benchmark of science is logic and intuition. it is the duty of logic to occasionally tell science to adjust its perspective.... happy Sunday bro
