Christianity Etc › Can Religious Folks And Atheist Debate In Peace? by vaxx(op): 1:30pm On Sep 23, 2017 |
Why would anybody hate atheists ? or why will atheist hate the religious folks?
I realised the most common issues on nairaland are between atheist and religious folks.....in fact no idea is share again apart from am right ,you are wrong? tolerance is missing.....
despite my background and seeing atheist as a future threat to my culture and heritage.... I still don't believe they should be treated with iron hands...lack of knowledge is what is missing.....
I find it strange to read many post on nairalands forcing a belief system on a person , say for example that person is a Christian , is it logical to force him into believing in the god of Islam ? No , so is atheism and it's illogical to think that atheists are god-hating , unloving , crazy people .
Truly some religion text encourage violence and I don't want to speak about any of this religion in order to be respectful to other people's beliefs and it's crazy to believe that every single believer is unwise as most atheist thinks.. how about coexistence ?
Why don't we share knowledge and love with each other ? you tell me about the big bang , I tell you about god , and in the end the most logical and peaceful explanation will be appreciated. |

Farmerforlife: A fatwa declaring what? Fatwas are rulings based on Islamic law derived from Islamic sources. Which verse or hadith will permit a fatwa preventing Muslims from performing Jumaat prayer? Jumat prayer is obligatory on Muslims and this is not negotiable. Rather, the government should take into account the population of Muslims in every location and provide more permits to accomodate the growing need for mosques, in the same way that a highway is expanded when the traffic increases. The reason why they do not pritest in the US or the UK is because the government takes into account the facts and figures before they grant the permit, not after. The Ondo State example you cited planned to destroy an existing mosque without any alternative whatsoever. If anything, that would have made the problem of praying in the streets of that location worse, not better, as the Muslims would have had to shift to smaller mosques in the area, and more streets would have been blocked... just another example of improper planning and shallow analysis. A fatwa base on Islamic jurisprudence that will declare how a Muslim should behave or conduct themselves in a secular state like Nigeria.....the land is not meant for Muslim alone and whatever is the development in Islamic gathering here in Nigeria ,non Muslim aspect needs to be consider.... No one is stopping you from praying your congregation prayer, it become a problem when it violate the freedom of others.....everyone aren't Muslim .... I repeat again, if federal govt should act like UK or USA Nigeria will boil.... the system is difference.... there is too much sensitivity toward religion in Nigeria unlike those country where human right lead the topic of discussion..... ondo state govt proposed an alternative ground for a new mosque but the Muslims in the city especially the chief imam rejected the idea.... one of the reasons he gave is ....my father was buried in the mosque building... I ask you ....why is it necessary for mosque to be situated in busy area like market? my suggestion is very reliable... |

superhumanist: Why would I waste my time reading a book that would be biased? If the roots of democracy were to be from christianity, Jesus would have been a democratic leader.
Sir, your position is false. Democracy existed separately from christianity for hundreds of years. Please, be honest to yourself. I am not a Christian so I see no reason why I should be bias in my claim the evidence is given even if it is not acceptable.... as for me it is absurd to deny the truth........ |

So you no fit attend my court wedding? you attend wedding in Ghana and there isn't food for you? I doubt it ....... weeding in Ghana is much celebrated like that of Yoruba or Igbo people... there is aso ebi.....where people wear the same attire.... pastries are served in the church for the Christian while koko and kose are served in the house for the Muslims at early in the morning.... while in the reception hall... food are served... sometimes you are made to line up for the food..... it is a way to ensure every visitor is served and visitor also contribute a little cash or gift to the pulse of the event.... once you collect the food ,you drop some cash...... I will advise you to visit zongo community during any weeding occasion.... it is always a blast.... I do not see much difference between Ghanian weeding and her Nigeria counterpart....... apart from that aspect of lining up for food which make sense to me..... |

Abdullahibnhas4: Islam is a very simple Religion. Islam simply means submitting yourself in peace to the Absolute One and Living GOD: "Say: He is God, the One and Only; God, the Eternal, Absolute; He begetteth not, nor is He begotten; And there is none like unto Him. (The Noble Quran, 112:1-4)"
"Then Praise be to Allah, Lord of the heavens and Lord of the earth- Lord and Cherisher of all the worlds! To Him be Glory throughout the heavens and the earth: and He is Exalted in Power, Full of Wisdom!. (The Noble Quran, 45:36-37)"
"Say: 'O People of the Book (i.e., Jews and Christians)! Come to common terms as between us and you: That we worship none but Allah; that we associate no partners with Him; that we erect not, from among ourselves, Lords and patrons other than Allah.' If then they turn back, say ye: 'Bear witness that we (at least) are Muslims (bowing to Allah's Will).' (The Noble Quran, 3:64)" as a Muslim... what do you do to have fun? since music is not permitted neither is liquor? or is fun haram? |

Farmerforlife: What solution do you propose if it is 'abolished'? Or what do you think will happen? Muslims will look in, see the mosque full and go back home? Lol.
The phenomenon is a result of bad planning by the government. If proper allowance was made for the growing Muslim populations, they will have no need to block the roads.
When I am passing Ibadan-Lagos expressway during one of the RCCG programmes, I only blame the government for approving a building plan without asking the proper questions, like what facilities are put in place for traffic control, what number of people are expected etc. I do not blame the RCCG itself for seizing the opportunity due to an inefficient system. We frustrated passers by just adapt.
Before approving Jumat mosques, the government should ask similar questions. They don't, and I don't blame the mosque authorities either. The worshippers cannot also be blamed. They must pray. The passersby should adapt.
The only other option is more efficient town planning systems for approval for public places, taking religious sensibilities into consideration, rather than the size of the brown envelope presented. Every day, Monday-Friday, it takes me close to half an hour to cover about a 100 metres of tarred road, simply because approval was given to a school to build directly on the road with no parking lot whatsoever, creating a huge traffic jam out of the estate area. The school could never smell approval in the UK or the US for example. My solution? I learnt to leave early.
You get my point. Cheers. i love your observation..... so true, proper planning are not done in Nigeria enough before lands certificate of occupancy are awarded..... but not so quickly....by planning, central mosque are located within the major center of the market that most be close to the king palace.. go to idi ape in Ilorin.... it is located in the market very close to the palace likewise oja oba in Oshogbo, what about kasoa Benji in kaduna ..... so many examples I can give.....there was a reported news sometimes last year that ondo state governor wanted to destroy the central mosque located at the heart of the city in akure to make way for motors and relax traffics but the Muslim of the city protested...and the government had to cancel the project... if the federal govt decided to act like their western counterparts like that of UK and USA you made mention, Nigeria Muslim will protest and the idea will be defeated...... what I suggest to be done is for the Muslim council to issue a fatwa concerning the development since the ulamas voice are much more respected in Islamic settings.... |

YOLO1: Not asking this to cause religious divide here but want to know the views of people especially our Muslims brothers here on their views about blocking federal highway every Friday for prayer. Work has taken me to almost all the northern states over the last five years and most times I travel back on Fridays. But it is always annoying to me as a non Muslim to meet a road block due to some people using the express way as a praying ground. This gets more painful when you still have much distance to cover. This does not happen only in the North. In the southwest, I stay close to Sabo. And this happens also every Friday. Is this praying style acceptable or should be abolished? Over to you my Muslim friends that idea should not be welcome in a secular state like Nigeria.... no one is above the law.... .i also wonder why is Arabic written on our naira note and no one has question it..... I think Muslim enjoy more political freedom more than any faith in Nigeria . isn't this partiality? in Muslim world it can be accepted, but in a democratic country like ours it should be rejected. |

anyway these are what I observed about those kind of people.
They claim to know better than you.... They criticised you instead of criticizing the argument.....
Their mission is to win a debate...
what I suggest you should do when you engage one.
The biggest form of reply is to stop worrying what other think or type about you negatively...
Who cares if they down vote you? Who cares if they comment on your level of knowledge or understanding? At the end of the day it’s about the person you are made of and the quality of your understanding that matters......
Just remember one thing: this person is publicly making themselves look like a real fool…. and once it’s out there on the inter web it’s generally there for good.
stay true to yourself, never worry about what he or she type about you and just aim to be the bets person you can be. and lastly emotional intelligence is the key......
mynd44 can you do your job pls....... I want this thread to reach as many as possible. |

BetterChurch: Basic Beliefs of Eckankar
Harold Klemp, the spiritual leader of Eckankar, describes the basic beliefs of Eckankar as follows:
The teachings of ECK define the nature of Soul more carefully than do other current religions. Each person is Soul, a particle of God sent into the lower worlds (including earth) to gain spiritual experience. Purified by the spiritual exercises, he comes into contact with the Holy Spirit. His goal is spiritual freedom in this lifetime, after which he becomes a Co-worker with God, both here and in the next world. Karma and reincarnation are primary beliefs.
Key to the ECK teachings is the Mahanta, the Living ECK Master. He has the special ability to act as both Inner and Outer Master for ECK students. He is the prophet of Eckankar, given respect but not worship. He teaches the sacred name of God, HU, which lifts one spiritually into the Light and Sound of God, the ECK.
The ECK (the Holy Spirit) purifies one of karma (sin), making it possible for him to accept the full love of God in this lifetime. Then he gains wisdom, charity, and freedom.
Personal experience with the Light and Sound of God is the cornerstone of Eckankar. Of all the religions on earth today, Eckankar offers the most direct teachings on the Light and Sound of God. These twin pillars are missing in whole or in part from the rest. People who truly find these two aspects of God undergo a complete spiritual change. Life becomes fresh and new again, as it was in early childhood.
—Harold Klemp "What Is ECKANKAR?" The Temple of ECK
Eckankar teaches . . . •Soul is eternal. •Soul exists because God loves It. •Soul is on a journey of Self- and God-Realization. •Spiritual unfoldment can be accelerated through conscious contact with the ECK, Divine Spirit. •This contact can be made via the Spiritual Exercises of ECK and the guidance of the Living ECK Master. •You can actively explore the spiritual worlds through Soul Travel, dreams, and other spiritual techniques. •Spiritual experience and liberation in this lifetime are available to all.

Thank you Vaxx. Hope this intro to the ECK Teachings is helpful in answering your question. So, the difference between both religions are obvious as their Scriptures are totally different. interesting... |

Be that as it may, how has these got anything to do with religion? Ancient Egyptians also made toothpaste then, was religion behind that too? It's important to note that the first cases of mummy in ancient Egypt happened naturally — they buried their dead in pit graves which are shallow, this allows for the hot dry desert sand to dry the body. Is this what you consider as religion progressing science?
Please don't say this elsewhere, abacus wasn't invented by pagans — even if that was the case — asserting that because they were pagans so paganism made them achieve that is a fallacy. This sums your argument. I won't indulge you further if you can't acknowledge the fault in your line of reasoning. I am mentally balance. I have no problem with the post. ......you lack ability to comprehend fast that is what I discover from you...... religion isn't science. religion is a stepping stone toward science development. the idea of preservation of dead body is conceived by religion not scientist. science only improve on it. abacus is develop by pagan worshiper..... the history is still available online. just make sure you learn...... |
