A police corporal, identified simply as Friday, has been accused of knocking down a teacher, Mrs. Taskirat Anjolaiya, and her baby, Ammarah. It was learnt that as a result of the incident, the mother and daughter sustained pelvic fracture, brain injury and a broken jaw among others. According to eyewitness, the policeman, who is attached to FESTAC Police Division, was driving against traffic on Apapa-Oshodi Expressway when he knocked down the victims. PUNCH Metro learnt that the graduate of Mathematics Education was alighting from a commercial bus with her child and had not noticed the police patrol van coming from the wrong direction. The victim’s husband, Sulaiman, said the policeman claimed he was running an errand for the Divisional Police Officer, Ibrahim Zango. The policeman was said to have told them that he was instructed by the DPO to drop off a woman at the airport in Ikeja and he drove against traffic to avoid traffic congestion on the appropriate route so that she would not miss her flight. He said, “The accident occurred on June 23, 2013. My wife was on her way to a religious progamme when a police driver drove recklessly on Oshodi-Apapa Expressway. He was driving against traffic and shouting at drivers on the right side of the road to clear out. “He eventually knocked down my wife and baby while they were alighting from a bus. “The policeman’s first concern at the scene of the accident was to immediately get a cab to convey the woman in his vehicle to her destination.” PUNCH Metro learnt that the policeman rushed the victims to the Lagos University Teaching Hospital, Idi Araba, and deposited N70,000 for their treatment. At LUTH however, doctors at the emergency ward discovered that the mother of three had sustained a pelvic fracture, facial bruises, and brain injury while the baby, Ammarah, also suffered deep facial cuts and a broken jaw. Sulaiman lamented that since the incident, over N500, 000 had been spent on treatment. He said the policeman had abandoned the victims at the hospital since depositing the N70, 000. He expressed disappointment over how the DPO handled the matter when they went to report the matter at the station. “A few days after the accident, when I could no longer bear the pressure alone, I went to see the DPO and I told him what happened. Zango lambasted me before offering us additional N10, 000,” he said. Sulaiman lamented that this was too little given the fact that he was unemployed and had spent all his savings. He expressed disappointment that the police, who had been charged with the duty of protecting lives, were the ones inflicting hardship on the family. Our correspondent, who visited the victim at Ward E3 on Thursday, observed that she was recuperating. However, some nurses, who spoke to our correspondent on the condition of anonymity, said the head trauma she sustained was still affecting her. One of them said, “She gets up from her bed and roams the hospital. Most of the time we have to strap her back to the bed to prevent her from going astray and I cannot say when she will be discharged,” she said. Sulaiman said his wife was a teacher and he feared if she would recover completely. Sulaiman said, “I have been unemployed for several months. My wife is a teacher at Ansar-Ud-Deen Primary School and she was the one supporting us until these injuries due to the behaviour of this police corporal who has now abandoned us. “The accident could have been avoided if the police man obeyed simple traffic regulation. Now, the action of the policeman has resulted in serious brain injury to my wife.” The spokesperson for the state police command, Ngozi Braide, confirmed the incident. She said disciplinary action was being taken against the DPO, while the police driver had been detained. “It is really a pathetic case and no one is happy about it. You were the one that just informed us of the incident. We have started taking disciplinary action against the DPO and the corporal. We will hold a meeting on the issue on Friday,” she said. Braide however said she could not say if financial support would be given to the family until after the meeting. http://www.punchng.com/news/policeman-drives-against-traffic-knocks-down-woman-baby/ |
Minna — The baby girl said to be born with a rosary around her neck in Bida, Niger State, on Saturday would not have been born at all as the mother had made several attempts to abort the pregnancy. Speaking to Daily Trust in her residence on Monday which had turned into a Mecca of sorts, as people trooped to the house to catch a glimpse of the baby, the 28-year-old mother Khadijat Isa said she had tried to abort the pregnancy because she had been having a frosty relationship with her husband for some time, such that they were even no longer living together. She said she did not take the herbs that would abort the pregnancy because of wickedness but due to her poor financial condition, explaining that as a fashion designer, she was not making enough to cater for her three children as she already has two from the same husband. "I took medicine and injection in the first month of the pregnancy because I didn't want the pregnancy but the pregnancy refused to be terminated," she said. She added that after several attempts to get rid of the pregnancy did not succeed, she resigned to fate and prepared to deliver it. Khadijat said throughout the period of the pregnancy, she did not even once visited hospital for ante-natal care. She said even when labour finally began, she did not make attempt to go to hospital, instead some elderly women from her compound took her to the house of the retired nurse to deliver. She said: "I did not go for any ante-natal even when labour started. I was only taken to the nurse's house by the people from my compound after noticing that I was going though pains. "I don't have money with me; there was no way that I could go to hospital. You know whenever you go to any hospital, it is the issue of money which I don't have," she added. Khadijat also said that the birth of the baby last Saturday was quite different her experience in the delivery of her two other children each of which saw her losing blood from the very beginning to the end of the labour. "The case of the baby I delivered three days ago is quite different as it was free of blood," she said. She said another miracle associated with her recent delivery is not only that it was bloodless but that the entire process did not last up to 30 minutes which contrasted to what she went through in her previous deliveries where she had to go through a period of pain that lasted for hours. Khadijat said for the eight years she was married to her husband they had been living peacefully until recently, before the pregnancy. She said also surprisingly, since the delivery her husband comes regularly to see the new baby and even attend to some of their needs. "The birth of the miracle girl will be source of reconciliation between us," she enthused. Aha! You can see him, he just came in. He has been coming regularly to see us. That is why I said the baby will be a source of reconciliation." On how the baby was delivered, said she could not explained much because she was only told by the nurse that handled the delivery that the baby came out with a rosary, adding that on hearing that the baby was delivered with the prayer beads, she was overwhelmed with happiness, telling herself that the child must have come with full blessing directly from the Almighty. "You can how people are trooping into this house, so it has been since yesterday when the child was delivered. You can see we went to bed as late 1am last now because people were just coming and out," she said. The father of the new born baby, Bissalla Zubairu said there was no problem between him and his wife, saying they just had a little misunderstanding which they were about settling when she delivered. Zubairu said he was shocked when he was told that his wife had given birth to a baby girl with a rosary on her neck, adding that up to the time he was talking with this reporter, he had not recovered from the shock. He said after the delivery they only took the baby to the Estu Nupe's palace where the baby received royal blessing by his Royal Highness Yahaya Abubakar. Shasha Abubakar, the retired nurse that handled the delivery of the miracle baby and told Daily Trust that: "Seven women came into my house around midnight one among them was pregnant, and was complaining of abdominal an waist pain. He added that on examining her, he discovered that it was a sign of labour. "In less than 30 minutes the labour began in earnest, and it was when we were about to deliver the baby that a rosary first came out and dropped on the floor. "I took the chasbaha, left the foetus behind and showed the people that she came with this. They then started kalmatul Shahada, 'Allahu Akbar, Allahu Akbar'. "The baby came out clean and no blood. I asked her people to bring clothes for the child and before they would do that the Chasbaha which was black at first, turned to white". Abubakar said the delivery of the child was normal without any hinderance and that it was one of the faster deliveries he has conducted in his 36 years of service. http://allafrica.com/stories/201307170868.html?viewall=1 |
Op, is it that you dont the future leaders to analyse past and current trends or you are among those school of thought that believe in "recycling the old leaders"? Or do you think age is measure of intelligence? |
Op, I will not say you are a "discombonbulated dumb,a$s" even if i know you truely are. Everything to you is miracle, open your sense and brain to see that the woman may have cheated. |
The problem is from the federal govt. Smaller denominations are not available in large quantities. The presidency need to do something about this. |

Please, doctors and pharmacist in the house can you please educate me on the difference between the "white" and "coloured" vitamin C. My belief is that the "white" vitamin C is more effective. How true is it? |

I rememberd some time ago in our village, my freind was sick and short of blood. The only solution was to transfuse blood into his system, but then he needed 3 pints of blood but only one pint was in the hospital and it was an emergency. What the doctor did was to mix the only available pint of blood with plenty oil and water to make it 8 pints. Immedaitely the blood transfusion was done for not only my freind but also for 2 other people. Yet the hospital still had reserve. |
