In one of our posts here i promised to bring you a list of hustles you can engage on the side to eke a living while keeping your acting dreams alive yeah? Ok so, the truth of the matter is that many of us have difficulty raising money to attend auditions, print headshots and in most cases feed ourselves on set during some of those "low budget" movies. Let me shock you, nobody takes acting as their only source of income both in Nollywood and Hollywood, and that is where the test of passion comes in! How humble and how far are you willing to go to actualize your acting dream?
Here are some things you can do on the side as an actor:

1. Home Teaching:
this has to be the most flexible part-time job any smart and dedicated person would do. find a subject you love, specialize on it, refresh your memory on it, go on to Tutor Nigeria and sign up. Or you can also tell a few of your church members to tell their friends. All you need might be just 3 families 2-days of 2hours session every week at N10k to N15k a month. Do the maths.

2. Gym Instructor/Private Trainer:
Strictly for fit actors. Am not joking guys, if you are looking just like a regular guy or lady out there, chances are no one might actually take you seriously. So come on stretch those packs and put them to use. You can choose to find your own clients or go to P-TEE and let them help you find some.

3. Hair Styling, Make-up, Manicure/ Pedicure:
Both sex, trust me, I know this business, and if you are good, you can earn as much as N7k minimum a day in a nice location for gents and above N10k for ladies. Some will argue of course, but permit me to teach you a concept called "upselling". It is a skill that lets you sell more services to clients who usually don't wouldn't ask for them. Convince him the new dye you have will help his damn bald head and he will likely jump at it and that's more money for you. Period. If you are good with twist and lock too, still more money! Make use of You-tube to learn new styles. Try unisex too... you know what? Just make the damn money of peoples hair!! Needless to say, you will have to decide when you want to work, just plan your schedule accordingly and you will be fine.

4. Creative Writing:
Although the money doesn't come daily but depends on how skillful you are. Writing can be very lucrative, be it guest blog posting, screenplay, script writing, editorials, as long as you are happy doing it and receiving the reward for it. Check out Freelancer and if you like what they do, sign up and make some money

5. Personal Assistant:
Best industry for an upcoming actor to serve as a personal assistant is in the movie industry, if you want to learn the trade, join the trade. Try Camera assistant, Sound Assistant, Production assistant, just assist fam! You will learn things, skills and the business of film making. And you will get paid.

6. Video Editing:
Don't be scared, nobody is saying you have to start editing movies yet. Look, it is the era of short clips and demo reels, monologue challenges and online skits. Why not learn some video editing skills and "help" your colleagues at the most unbeatable prices while perfecting your skills for the big league in the future. Sounds like a good idea? You welcome!

7. Graphic Design:
You know the age we are in right? the last audition information you got on your whatsapp media was graphic design. Someone got paid for that. Next time, let them go through you! If you don't have the skill, the good thing is that you can learn it in a day! Worried you may not have enough client? Says the man who hasn't even learned the skill. Again, go to Freelancer and get some.

8. Photography:
This is not a debate fam, just get a nice camera. You can start with your colleagues at the audition venues and perfect your skills until events start paying for your contract fees. And if you don't have a camera, I advise you check for Cameras for Sale and select a good one.

9. Taxi:
No am not talking about the yellow cab in Anambra and Lagos or the blue ones in Asaba and PH, am talking about Uber or Taxify Although, this will mainly be an option for those residing in Abuja, Lagos or Port-Harcourt, but not to lose hope because soon internet taxi will be everywhere in Nigeria's major cities.

10.
I wanted to make it a list of 10 but I figured I should keep it to my self. That's for me and me alone, but if you want it, you can indicate in the comment section. i will email it privately.

Star boy..
I saw and listened to Oshomole talk about Peter and China, trying to antagonise the most prudent governor of all time. But I pitied him because he was doing a poor job at it.
Thing is, if we have a vice president who doesn't wanna borrow money from China but wants idea and tech transfer from China, then I swear to you that man is from the east, he is wise and the kind of leader our hopeless country needs.

TV/MoviesThe Disaster Every Upcoming Artist Must Avoid At All Cost by VcStunner(op): 8:46am On Feb 10, 2019
I don't intend to be a bearer of bad news... never! My job here is to give heads-up to all and sundry who might need some insights to stay on the right track in the Nollywood industry. If you don't want to end up like some of our revered "Legends" in the industry who are now either sick or broke or both, please I beg you to pay maximum attention here. You are way too young to make such mistakes in this dispensation with the ocean of information available to you.
I felt so sorry for most of our Industry legends because they weren't privileged to have access to the tools we currently abuse today. But hey, we don't have time for self-pity now. We have a duty to make the much-needed corrections and be better for it, for the sake of our families and ourselves. Here are top trends you must look out for and avoid at all cost!!

Fame Without Money:
Now listen carefully, there is a very thin line here for upcoming artists especially in Nollywood. The problem most of you would encounter is the greed and most times lack of finance in the industry. As an upcoming actor, you have little or no control over your wages and welfare because you just want to work and be known to a reasonable extent. This is where the challenge is, you never know which job will push you to the limelight, it could be the one you were paid 10k to shoot and after 3 months you are everywhere, but still nowhere!
My Advise:
Monitor your roles carefully. This is a deliberate and conscious exercise. Never depend on acting to pay your bills, get a side gig to cushion the effect of the hustle so you don't put your self in a tight corner. I will talk about some of the side gigs you can do while staying close to the corridors of the movie industries. keep tabs with me here.

Sexual Promiscuity And Drug: A very vital issue no one wants to talk to you about. They don't want to tell you the truth because they want you to fail too. Here is the idea, you feel very free to do whatever you like on set because it's the movie industry forgetting that there are always consequences... well, I am sorry on your behalf. Except sex actually does inspire creativity in you which in many cases it doesn't, just like many would argue they get inspired when they smoke marijuana. So many lies have been propagated and so many failures have been witnessed, don't fall for it.
My Advise:
first, you need to know what works for you. If your family have cases of heart disease and diabetes, why smoke because people are smoking in your camp. If you make hard drugs your source of energy and inspiration, chances are that you will become an addict and sooner you will be on a hospital bed soliciting for funds like many "legends" have done in the past. It was not their fault but like they say... ignorance is no defense. Take 30 minutes every day to meditate. If it works for Denzel Washington, it will work for you. I will be sharing some simple steps you can take to remain energized and inspired all the time.

Industry Romance:
Many won't agree with this but it doesn't matter. This point is for the few who are taking the acting business seriously. If you have passed through university, you will realize that many first-class materials don't keep relationships while in school. And if you work in a structured environment, you would have also been thaught that office romance is more likely to bring you down than it will ever promote you. If that's true of success in those areas, what makes you think that's not a pattern?
No one says you won't succeed, but you will take twice the time to. Needless I remind you that most people who approach you trying to warm their way to your heart have observed you from a distance, accessed you and believe that you will be a ladder on which they can climb to the top. In most cases, they never really care if the ladder breaks afterward.
My Advise: Be careful, Be watchful, but be very friendly and approachable.

I will complete this list on a later date. Make I go church first. God bless you all.

TV/MoviesHandling Rejections In Nollywood by VcStunner(op): 3:34pm On Feb 07, 2019
Believe me, when I say this, rejection is one of the tools the greatest of actors have used very effectively to their own advantage. Do I need to tell you about Dwayne Johnson? or Jason Statham?
How about Oprah Winfrey, Harrison Ford, and the world greatest director Steven Spielberg? Come down to Nollywood and the cases are the same! But before you take that cowardly step to quit, remember you owe us some good shows on the television and the world is waiting on you to beat through your numerous rejections and come take your shine. My job, however, is to show you the easiest way to deal with rejections, develop a thick skin and come through... follow me.

To effectively handle rejections in the entertainment industry, keep the following at the back of your mind:

1. They aren't rejecting you, they are rejecting your lack of credentials.
how to solve it:
in the corporate world, they call it "wrap shit of accomplishments". Go back to the drawing board, get a friend to assess your weaknesses and your strengths. Build on your strengths and work on your weaknesses. Take up unpaid jobs and gather as many experiences as you can get, offer to work as a Production Assistant, this position will expose you to many expectations of the director, DOP and even the producer from an artist. It will also teach you humility.

2. They don't have anything for you.
how to solve it:
first, you need to realize this isn't your fault, to begin with! you might have performed excellently well in your auditions but there is just no character in the story befitting of your person. Just move on to the next with lots of belief and positivity.

3. They do Have Something For You But You Don't Think You Deserve it. Self Doubt.
how to solve it:
here, this is totally your fault, how dare you look timid in front of me when am about to entrust part of my business in your hands! No, I won't do that. You must come out confident of your capability first before anyone can believe in you. Next time you stand in front of that judge, take a deep breath and focus on your character. Wait for the direction and smack it in their faces!
Let me give you a golden advice here... If anyone ever asks you if you can do anything and you know you can't, say yes you can... they will teach you how to do it. That's the spirit of every hustler. Never say Never.

4. They Don't Just Like You:
how to solve it:
Damn them all! yeah, you heard me. I will bet my ball pen you are even more professional than they are. Those situations don't call for self-pity. Don't be sorry for who you are, someone is out there waiting to beg you to feature in their project. All you need to do is keep being original, do you, and keep getting better at anything you do. You may have come across to them as a difficult person to work with, but as i said, it will take a professional to look beyond assumptions and get closer to find out about you.

Bottom line here is, rejections will keep coming, but sometimes all you may actually need is just one "Yes" to become the "hottest commodity". Be original, be humble and be grateful.

i concur
thegrinch:
I completely agree with this list.

However, the first thing an actor needs to realize is that S\He is an Instrument... Master the use of your Body, Voice, movement, etc like you would master an instrument and you would automatically command a presence so strong, you will be irresistible to Directors and your audience will love you.

You could join our next 3 months Acting Class which we dubbed: "Enter Nollywood with Ease" training. Classes Starts on Fonday, February 18th. Check my signature for contact details.
TV/MoviesRe: Post All TV/Movie Audition Notices Here by VcStunner(m): 3:29pm On Feb 07, 2019
It is NOT all about who you know my dear... I know Obama, Trump, Bill Gates, Dangote, Kunle Afolayan but you know what? I still don't have an American visa lmao! Just imagine it is the other way around, just one person among them knows me the way I know them? Okay, we know what's up yeah?

My point is this, in Nollywood as an industry, there are key players. They are the guys who call the shots. To me, trying to know them will be a long shot although it is worth trying. But I have a better idea and that's what I am here to share today. So, if you want to hit the spotlight soonest, here are a few things you might consider doing:

1. Respect your colleagues.. all of them: let me explain this, you see those "hungry" boys and girls, ladies and gents, men and women you meet at auditions? Respect them! Behave well around them, regard them, make friends with as many of them as you can. what you see there every day is a pull of writers, Production Managers, producers, casting directors, continuity, directors and potential E.Ps who are yet to understand their calling in the industry. When they eventually do, you will always be their first point of contact when a need for your kinda skills arises. You heard this here first!!

2. Attend Events: Now you are probably thinking, hey I don't have money to transport to any shitty event. Well, to those of you who take this business seriously I doubt if that's really gonna be a problem. So hear this advise; Attend events that Filmmakers, Casting Directors, Writers and Producers attend. The environment helps you meet them when their security is a bit down, use it and continue using it.

3. Engage with Professionals Online: Let me make this simple, sometime in 2017 I met a guy on Twitter. A top Nollywood director. He's very active on that platform with a blue-streak and all. I went through his profile and timeline, checked out his works on youtube, came back with excerpts and warmed my way through his heart. He asked for my monologue and boom, the rest they say is history.

4. Learn to be genuinely interested in people: Listen, don't fake it. Genuinely care about people, ask them about them, respect their opinions, focus out and above all, add value to them. In all your interaction with people, always appear dependable. This one skill is the reason I can strongly refer you for a job and referral is how we get along in Nollywood and all other facets of life.

5. Follow Up, Be Consistent: Schedule your follow-ups and be very consistent with it. reach out to the last Production Manager you worked with once in a while, the P.As, any of the crew members at all you have worked with.

Look all I have been trying to say since is this, open up your mind and realize that to be a good actor, you must first live and respect everyone around you. No, I didn't say go take shits from scumbags, just be good and remember is who sees you that determine who promotes you.
Alright, go get some associates!! And let your friends know we are sharing free tips here... that's another way you can add value to them. Cheers! cool cool

TV/MoviesEffective Networking Is The Fastest Way To Stardom In Nollywood by VcStunner(op): 3:27pm On Feb 07, 2019
Let's face it.

HOW TO MAKE GOOD MONOLOGUES IN NOLLYWOOD
It is no longer news that the Nollywood industry and the general entertainment industry have all subscribed to the use of monologue for auditioning for best talents.

However, many amateurs are still yet to wrap their heads around this concept. While some see it as an opportunity to be flexible and show forth their own creation, others feel threatened by it. This article is therefore aimed at helping you create the best monologue for auditions especially in the movie industry. Before we jump in, I like you to pay attention to these critical points while creating your movie monologue
i. You are the only actor/actress in a monologue. The camera (if any) is your imaginary partner/audience.
ii. Do not confuse the audience.
iii. It should be clear and easy to understand
iv. Don't rush it, but don't pause for too long.
v. Finally, aim for something new.

Okay, so now that we have some insights, lets head straight to the point. Remember, Nollywood is unique and different from what is obtainable in other movie industries worldwide. So follow these steps and you won't have to wait for too long to get callbacks.
STEP ONE:
First and foremost think up a character in your head, say for example a boss in a structured office environment, a young teenager who wants to play football, a grown-up lady who has to battle rejections because of her bad leg etc etc.. just think of anything! But while at it, remember to consider your age in relative to the character you are playing.
STEP TWO:
Create a character profile. From your characters name to their biography, age, facial expression, general demeanor, dressing style, style of speech, career, likes and dislikes..etc etc. Note them down on your jotter. This will give you the jump off into your characters past, present and future. Be smart and articulate about it.
E.g: Stan is in his early 30s, a young hungry professional. he has a great dress sense, neat, well groomed, he's about my height and build, calm but a no-nonsense person. Something like that.
STEP THREE:
Use the above clues to write a short story about your character, the kind of story with a clear introduction, transitions, conflicts, and resolutions. Achieve this under 30 seconds to 1 minute and you will have an awesome monologue.
E.g: here is a conversation between Stan and anybody
Stan:
You walked into my office, picked up a contract document, without confirming all necessary requirements you signed the papers?
contd...
what exactly is going on here?! this is a total breach of SOP, outright insubordination, it is disrespectful and I don't condone it.
(calmly)... You're fired. Get the hell out of my office.
How does this sound? Of course, it's a great scene to use. Good storyline, expressive, action-packed and simple.
Remember to be creative, leave that break-up and cry monologues. Chances are 50 people had done it before your turn, the judges might get irritated. Try something new always. Like I always say, don't use a "serious" monologue in a comedy audition. Tailor your monologues to suit the occasion, you will have higher chances of connecting with the judges.

Follow these simple steps and thank me later!
Drop comments and questions if you have any, i will be glad to help.

TV/MoviesSkills You Will Certainly Need To Be A Good Actor by VcStunner(op): 5:13pm On Feb 06, 2019
i. Excellent communication skills: Okay, let me break it to you so you can understand why this comes first. Communication is only 7% verbal and 93% non-verbal. let's break it further.. The non-verbal part is broken into 55% body language and 38% tone of your voice! what this means is that you can actually pass a message 93 times better without actually saying a damn word! Now it makes sense yeah? No wonder deaf and dumb people can "talk and hear". Learn it, actor!!
ii. Good stage, screen or vocal presence.
iii. The ability to internalize roles and engage the audience.
iv. Good understanding of dramatic techniques
v. Creative insights
vi. Ability to work under pressure
vii. You must be intelligent... everyone can be if they want to.
viii. Strong belief in yourself
ix. You must be confident, dedicated and energetic.
x. The ability to memorize lines

We will add to the list with time and i will be explaining some of these skills in-depth for better understanding... like the internalization of roles and how to do it, voice training and dramatic techniques.
Always check back. Don't forget to drop your comments or questions if you have any.
Best of luck.

We will run through them so if you see where you think you might be lacking, trust me that may be the reason you are not ahead of your mates! They are not following you from the village bro/sis... just skill-up and do your thing!
let's check them out..

TV/MoviesRe: Post All TV/Movie Audition Notices Here by VcStunner(m): 8:55am On Feb 05, 2019
Listen, i know you joined the industry 700yrs ago and have probably attended your 1000th audition.
or maybe you are about to attend your first or you have attended your first but it didn't go well .... hey we respect you veterans and newbies alike but this is very important for both the old and new. So gather here let me give you some tips that will help you get more jobs easier.

So here are my 5 tips to ace your auditions and secure a role:

1. Be super punctual:

Just make it a habit, in most cases for people in Lagos, depending on who is calling,,, people literally sleep in audition venues. the reason is simple, audition first when the energy and focus of your judge is fully concentrated on you. A small audition? make sure to be among the first 30, a big audition like the Africa Magic? try to be among the first 200. Same won't apply in Asaba or Enugu or PH, but be punctual.

2. Dress Well:

See your audition as an interview, yes its an interview in its own right! No, don't suit up if its a dance audition, don't swag up if the notice says "Epic". Just dress decently. Doesn't matter if you have a weird hairstyle... there is a role for everyone as long as you know what you are doing. Dress well, dress right but above all, make sure your dress gives you the much-needed confidence.

3. Come With Your Monologue:

A monologue is a short play of 30sec to 1min in which you are conversing with yourself or an imaginary second character. Typical of Nigerian judges, 85% will judge you based on how loud and expressive you are. Go hilarious if you are auditioning for a role in a comedy. Only use a cry monologue if you are very sure you can bring those tears under 30seconds otherwise get very unusual. This is the creative industry people, be creative with your monologue.

4. Be Confident:

Be careful, this one act can make or mar you. some perceive a level of confidence as being rude but again you can't afford to be found lacking in it. Put up the right dosage of confidence. Don't let it insult your judges, the idea is to wow them with it. Remember, no one honors the timid! Go in there, look them in the eye and say those lines. Be confident.

5. Be Extra!

How? you read they said come with 5by7 pictures? don't just go with a picture, Go with a short resume attached to your picture printed in half of an A4 paper. That's the international best practice, that's extra. Always remember that you are a professional because you put life in a lifeless situation, so when you do your thing, remember others will do it just same... add that extra and be extraordinary!

okay, there you have my top 5 tips... i will share more tips later. stay put and tell your friends to come and learn here.

Until Dangote and Otedola tells us openly to support any candidate, pls don't mind those moguls.

Off course only a mumu who doesn't know football or a hater would disagree....

He's got power
He can dribble
He shoots well
He passes good
Long passes A1
He SCORES
He ASSISTS
Set pieces( not bad)
Oh and he marks well.....

And if he is not good,he would not be the STAR MAN @MANCHESTER UNITED...
You won't spend 4 years playing alongside PIRLO and winning the scudetto 4 times if you are mediocre..and
You won't be a WORLD CUP WINNER and one of the first names in the FRENCH national team roster if you are not that Good....

Oh and before I forget, his 89 million is one of the highest ever in football.....

A lot of people will attack is hair, showboating and blah blah,we are all wired differently and no be everybody go be responsible like mbappe....

I can only mention debruyne...or you tell me one mildfieder that put in so much defensively and same offensive...

Modified
If you are going to criticize, kindly mention those midfielders ahead of him and not just some "he is not among the blah blah blah....as I have said before only Kevin debruyne I rank alongside him....I said alongside him and not above him.....and because he can still do better....that boy is damn good...y'all need to forget about his flashy lifestyle and actually watch him play good football....see the quality of his short and especially long passes...he can take on more than one man...he is strong...he is on both ends of the field,he shields the ball very well and he is unlikely to be bullied off the ball.....when he was having problem earlier the season ,I just laugh when I see rumours about pogba leaving...you mean Woodward would sell pogba?,I think Barca would have a higher chance of selling Messi than pogba leave United....that's my best player and skippo, forget mouhrinho mumuness....

The Catholic Church is known for humanitarian projects and charitable courses.
As a Catholic, I applaud every effort no matter how little that's made towards the needy. Remember that the needy must not be the poor and broke.

Haven said that, it is important to understand that what Peter Obi was reported doing is a normal for him over the years and so it is to so many others. For those who think this is about politics, well u may be half right and half wrong. But the bottom line is that humanity wins at the end.
