@Toxnaija
Thank u broda. How mama Charlie 4 yonda? Sure! it is better to go 4 latest tech. Didn't even know MYTV are moving to Mpeg4. Infinity on mpeg4 daarsat (though out of service) Mpeg4. others will son follow suite. FTA lovers, start saving for decoder change oooo. we wey dey use more than one decoder, hmmmmm double spending no be so?

One thing I cant just help but notice is that after telecom, te beam is now on entertainment for Africa. Una remember b4 wey be say na Pas7/10 and NSS7 we were all stuck to with 90cm. no the cloud seem to be clearer for those sats or is it for the operators of sat tv? Whatever! in as much as FTA is there, we are happy.

@all

Going by what I read about these star tv people, and what I heard from a staff of disccom, I would safely conclude that not all the channels on star tv would be encrypted or let me say all the channels that would be on their decoder would not be tranmitted by star tv. The guy at disccom told me that NBC has given the local tv operators up till 2012 to upgrade to digital transmission. He said this means our regular tv would not be able to receive local stations and we would need some kind of decoder to watch our local stations. I think NTA is partnering with thes chinko people in preparation of moving into full digital transmission. while maybe some channels would be encrypted, I believe the local channels would not be though in Nigeria, things dont work the normal way. they might just encrypt everything and ask us to pay b4 we watch our own local stations. DSThieves, HiThieves and MYThieves did it. While we in 9ja pay to watch NTA and AIT, people in Europe watch it FTA. Funny isn't it?

Lest I forget! the same rule applies to DTH operators too oooo. By 2012 or after 2012, expect DSThieves, HiThieves and MYThieves to ask you to buy MPEG4 capable STB's as they are required to transmit at MPEG4 and did people using star tv notice that it is an MPEG4 capable STB.

@segunfms
Star tv is transmitting DVB-T. If anyone have the old disccom decoder, dust it, and scan. you should receive star tv. but when they encrypt, you might not be able to decrypt it.

I came across a, should I call it decoder today but I think it is a DVB-T. It is star3800T and the guy is watching about 36 channels FTA both local and foreign. It comes with a conax card reader and the facinating thing is that he is using a local antennae for reception. The decoder has Mpeg4 capability. Some stations on it are Discovery world, BBC, Trace, etv(same old etv), setanta sport, NTA, MITV, TVC and some others.

Does anyone know anything about this?
Phones / Re: How To Activate Glo For Glo 3g Plus For Prepaid Lines by vickoy23: 3:50am On Mar 09, 2010
To use zain 3g service, the APN is internet.ng.zain.com, Username is internet and password is internet. you however need to buy their 3g enabled data card from dia office. it delivers beta speed than regular sim u buy on the road and u dont need proxy server for it. For glo, u will need to get to dia office to buy data sim too for N100.00 then go through the activation process. collect the procedure instruction from them there. you would need to wait for minimum of 1hr after you start the procedure to be on the 3g service. once this is done, the apn is gloflat, username flat and password is flat too and you are good to go. the down side of glo is that when you subscribe to a bundle plan, do not use the data sim on a none 3g device. you would be billed 15k per kilo even though u have an active bundle but dia one day plan for N500 gives you 150mb unlike mtn and zain that gives 50mb.

@honsule what mtn modem did u use? I could not get my E170 to browse on glo 3g but it worked on this huawei modem sold by ssm and worked too using my N72 (a 2g phone) as a modem for pc through nokia pc suite. I was able to use it through anoda nokia 3g phone I have forgotten the name.

Multitv encryption move? It is only a short sighted individual that would not see it coming. Let be reasonable here. why would multitv invest so much if not to make money. They figured out that they would sell receivers, beam free to air and get advert to keep them going. There immediate source of revenue should be he sale of receivers. they must have realised the low revenue turnover. and dont forget these dealers of theirs must have registerd with a certain amount of money so would naturally have formed an association. they must have complained due to low sale figure. so multitv is taking this step.

Dont let us forget etv so soon. their intention was to beam to their receivers only for free but somehow the gurus broke their code and we could receive them through strong receivers. when they were pressurised, what did they do? they still beam to their receivers FOC but we cant receive it any longer.

Dont let us forget too that it would be illegal for them to operate in our nigeria so no advert, no direct receiver sales, they cant have legal dealers here too. they had to do something to protet their investments.

I believe if you want to receive them, simply get their receiver when they go encrypted. let a 9ja investor achieve that first then we can criticise them . even our NTA is not free on 90cm dish. dont forget that.

It pained me that I missed the opportunity of buying the multi TV HD decoder from GH last week all because I was waiting to hear good news from strong. If only I had gotten online to our dear forum, I would have read the info without having to contact them also I was working on 250 Gh cedis a dealer told me when i called GH. Ha i known I could get it for 150GH cedis. A friend of mine just came back from GH on saturday. You wil have to send me your account details and total cost so I pay and you help through ABC.

@ all

Thanks for keeping the fta frag frying(like my calabar brethren will say).

Is anyone experiencing sam thing with me. when I click on my last 10 posts, I get stuffs I never wrote. sometimes when i open nairaland (epecially 2ru zain) without having logged in, I get a user already logged in on my pc which ofcourse only me uses.

Like eduzo said, astra2b is at 28E. Taking a cue from DSTV, HITV and Trend TV whom are at 36E, you raise your dish slightly up (from DSTV, HITV and Trend TV position) and right you should be at 28 degree east which is your astra2d. If you have a compass then just use it else, the best practice would be for you to get dstv then slightly raise up and move left.

when I am doing mine, i would first experiment with extra lnb on dstv same thing we did with NSS7 and Intel907 then.

Disclaimer: I am yet to shoot and nail astra2d ooo just taking a cue from experience so don't hold me to my post oooo.

if you have the requirement for a big dish den why waste time on discom. when I say req, i mean the space. if i have it, i would not waste money getting 4(nos) 90cm dishes all in a bid to get the best out of fta. I needed better entertainment so my only option is discom where i will keep d sub low and max the enjoyment. I know what I am missing on nilesat. i know what i am paying 4 is fta actually. but what can i do? it is not ignorance but constrain.

Discom is not FTA and are a cable tv. acquisition cost should be about 17k

Antenna from them is 2,950, outside is btw 1,500 and 2,500 pending on bergaining power
Cable is 1,200 one row
pole, 2,500 per 20ft pending on your location, you might need more than one
receiver from discom is 7,500 + Vat
one month sub is 3,000
accessories may be up to 300
You should be able to install urself. It is just califonia antenna

@ tox9ja

Very elated you called at my place. I will surely "retaliate". THANK YOU VERY MUCH. Appreciation from my household.

Hello house,

Sorry for the looooong absence. how una dey? I dey gbadun una no be small. I always do catching up whenever I come online but have not been posting since there is nothing in the 90cm league. So where do I start now? ok

@tox9ja

Gr8 u have Izap. The Izap s only better than MTN f@stlink in term of aquisition cost and unlimited data allowance. For pple who would want to make a choice, you can have this as a decision guide

1. Mtn initial cost is 35,500, Izap is 11,000 i think
2. Mtn data could be as high as 2.5mbps while Izap struggles with 512kbps
3. You can transfer up to 3gb data (up and download) with your monthly subscription while Izap is unlimited
4. MTN subscription is 10,000 for 3gb or 1 month (whichever comes first) while Izap is 15,000 no data restriction
5. MTN has a daily offer of 500 naira for 5mb and some other packages too i cant readily remember while Izap has 15,000 for monthly, 7,000 for 9am to 9pm and 5,000 for 9pm to 9am
6.mtn switches btw edge and gprs where the former is broadband and the later is just gprs at 53kbps while izap swtiches btw evdo and 1x. these switch b both net work depend on specific service coverage area.
7. in term of beter service coverage, i would give it to starcomms. i would also give to them better customer care. be sure to find out if the better service of every network is withing your principal usage area to avoid been frustrated.
8. what applies to mtn applies to glo except that glo cost 19,000 for aquisition and has better customer service than mtn.

@all

Now to second topic. Having patiently gone through the posts all this months and nearly died of jealousy of those nilesat pple in da house and having realized I dont have space for bigger dish, I finally decided to join the semi nilesat league at least for the movies, I went to discom and aquired their DVB-c receiver and honestly I am not regretting it. My advise to fellow nairalanders in the 90cm leaue is to go get it if u are within discom coverage are. U wont regret. these are some of the channels I have -
BBC
CNN
ALJHAZERA
PRESS TV
SKY NEWS
CNBC AFRICA
MBC2
MBC4
MBC MAX
MBC ACTION
MBC PERSIA
FOX MOVIE
DISCOVERY
CARTOON NETWORK
SPACETOON
B4U
CCTV
MUSIC PLUS
TRACE TV
YOTOMI
BLAST TV
OYORIMA
CINETREND
ARIYA
DOVE
LOVEWORLD
ETC. There are 47 in all anyway

@all

I once posted on this thread the problem free2view had with S.A authority and i remembered expressing my fear that msnbc might not last on that bird considering that issue. I hope the inability to view msnbc is not a fall out of the free2view-S.A Authority problem. Unfotunately nigeria could not do something right. imagine our Nigcomsat falling out of orbit due to power failure. Theºannoying part is that Nigcomsat boss had the effontary to yarn crap in one of the dailies saying sat failure is not a new thing and not peculier with 9ja. I hope he realised how much 9ja sunk in there and will need to still sink in some more to ensure the failed sat do no destroy other sats in orbit. na wa ooo.

hw u dey? So u r leaving us abi? If not for the fact that it is for your own betterment, i for organize squad make dem come tie u down.

Concerning the free2view pple, I once posted my conclusion on them in season one. my conclusion from research is that the SA government has snuffed the life out of them. Reason been that they want to give FTA which must be a threat to some officials interest. You know african leaders buy up shares or kind of own these companies that flece their populace. So the SA authority says Free2view is Illegal to operate in SA and stopped them. The free2view pple in turn went to court but I dont think they had a favourable judgement. The MSNBC and others we are still seeing must be as a result of contract already signed so I dont want to imagine what will happen once the contract is over. except something positive happens to free2view.

@all

All of these are my opinions and is in no way represent the true nature of what is happening to free2view. So nobody should hold me responsible

@eniitan

I once posted my prophecy on this thread that I foresee a TP rising out of this forum. I have to modify that prophesy to be TPs. I can see it happening once FTA awareness becomes a wild fire because of this forum. Let's get  started Jo.

Today is supposed to be Daarsat's big day but i am yet to lay my hand on any new dev. Any news out there? I am still news hunting though.
Satellite TV Technology / Re: Official Thread of Free-To-Air Satellite TV (Part 1) by vickoy23: 6:58pm On Oct 02, 2008
@Mr. Gem

I do not think you can use a diseq on HITV receivers. I am not sure if the receiver is diseq enabled. but in case it is, the principle is this. your diseq has four inputs and one output (for a 4-way type). these inputs allows you to connect four dishes (LNB) and the output connects to your receiver.

Setting it as your receiver, all you have to do is to allocate the satellite to the diseq port. for example if your HITV is connected to input 1 on your diseq then eutelsatw4 or whatever the sat name you use to receive HITV should be set to 1. on strong receiver, which i am very familiar with, you would go to the menu, select dish settings, select your satellite, select your diseq type (1.2 or 2.0), select the input port of the satellite e.g 1 and the last option incase you select 2.0 as ur diseq type is commitment which i guess means in case u have more than 1 satellite coming through port 1, u commit the satelite to a specific number. you do same fo the other satellite e.g mytv which is on intel 7/10, u have it on port 2, u follow same step above but changing the port to 2. you should be good to go. Like I said, I am not sure the HITV receives are diseq enabled. in case it is and u are not able to do it, u can get through on phone to he house guru, probably 2ru a midnight call and u would be worked through. a pic has been posted ealier by F marshal which explains the layout better.

best of luck

A friend of mine was tracking W3A @ 7 degree and to his surprise some channels of NSS7 C Band notably, Foxafrica, 2M Monde, Algeria, etc. using transponder 11262 H 27500 appeared. To be extra sure, he came home and repeated the experiment and had the same result.

Any clue how this could be possible?

Those are GTV packages on W3A. But funny though, the freq is for @opensky according to lyngsat. I would give it a shot when I get home. who knows? maybe dem won do us wander

Countdown to Daarsat. According to High Chief Raymond A. Dokpesi, We have 12 days to go. We are waiting patiently. No new info yet from anyone and 12days to go. ; D grin grin grin or am I mistaken? maybe I did not hear well. No be 7th October the man call am? with 8 channels?

Am I wrong conclding or is it a fact that African leadership system is structured in such a way that information is a luxury to it's subjects. Let´s take free2view as a case study. those guys wanted to give enough fta but the S.A authority ha smade sure it does not happen. the few we are receiving from them I am sure might be beause the free2view people has already signed a contract with the content providers and must just transmit. who knows what will happen after the contract elapses.

Or is there something I am not getting? Please enlighten me.

I have ben thinking. instead of me paying daarsat 40k for a Receiver. why not double it to 80k and get nilesat installed for myself. If i should motorise it sef. plenty Channels go burst my receiver. B

I personally am not against any one doing research. afterall it is for the good of us all but I would not support a situation whereby the researcher does not state in clear terms it is a research based on assumed theories. If you would remember my previous post, I asked if you had actually tested this dvb-c thing because I had the impression earlier that you had tested it and it is working and you replied that you had not tested it.

I had wanted to jump to Alaba to look for this dvb-c decoder but had to post that question when I expressed doubt in your assumed findings. I would seriously advice that when you make researches, please state clearly it is a research and I believe many of us would not mind joining in the project for our comon good and not leaving the impression that it is an EUREKA.

i take exception to the post that when a respected member of this forum makes a mistake, he or she should not be chided. If the guy that started this thread had done so on an assumed or misguiding platform we would not all be shouting " Our Great Forum". Information are meant to be clear and not muddled under some , what do I call it? i want to remember that in the earlier post, Some guy would just go to lyngsat, Satcodx and google, do some kind of research and post his theoretical findings here as a fact. I would not know of others but me I woud read it up and jump to the roof top, sit there through a whole day to work on my setup only to be disappointed at the end of the day. Did we not scold him?

React the way you want. No problem but the truth ned to be said. Imagine some guy saying ego is running wild here on this forum. I dont think we are here to show off but to share knowledge. That is why I keep coming back to this forum.

@Eniitan

Are u using the DVB-C decoder presently? Do I get to see all the diskcom channels free. Please confirm. It will be very disastrous if we great nairalanders go buy this decoder and find out we can't get to view except we go to pay. Please confirm asap.

@Badaru

You are da bomb. those definition of terms are just more than helpful. they are eye opener. You know what? I for one learnt to install through this forum without getting to know what I am doing first. Trial and error you will say. But the newbies would not have to fall into ignorance pit like i did because of great pple like u, Tox9ja, juxt24, mide2008, pitodenz, all of u d guru's i cant remember all the names readily now but I am very greatful. Kudos to u all. I foresee a transponder been activated all because of this forum.

Ok brother, I would give you a quick tutorial. FTA are unencrypted channel which is available for you to watch free of charge. all you need do is instal the right type of hardware and track the satellite where this FTA is. HITV is on 36ºeast on a satellite called eutelsat w4 and on the same satellite is DSTV, TREND TV and GTV. all these sat TV providers are so greedy that they have no FTA for anyone. You must pay before you watch anything on their bouquet. infact there is no hope for FTA lovers on that satellite. If you want FTA, you have to instal your dish to the position of intelsat 7/10 on 68.5º east or Eutelsatw3A on 7º east or NSS7 on 22º west if you have 90cm dish. If you can afford bigger dish, then you have an option on Nilesat. Now you can be on C band or KU band. the channel ou are trying to get will determine your dish size, LNB type and positioning.

So if you want FTA you might consider going for a second dish or even a third or fourth. Me I have four dishes which I combined with a diseq switch.

I guess I have been able to answer your question. There is no FTA on HITV or the satellite it is on. Moreso, they must have given you a 60cm dish which might not be of very good use if u want fta.nI am not sure if you can use a diseq switch on HITV decoder
