Travel › Re: Nigerians And Fake Accent by Vincent41(m): 8:30pm On Jun 29, 2013 |
apache77: I always hear people say Nigerians who travel abroad always come back with a fake accent, even if its only one month they spend in London or America. Is this true? Do Nigerians try to speak like foreigners?
What i think is that the biggest problem you face the minute you step into obodo oyinbo apart from the cold is your accent. Our accent is so thick foreigners cant make out head or tail what we are trying to say. So from immigration right to your next door neigbour, you struggle to communicate- nobody hears's your type of English. Our slow drawl is a big problem, not just to Americans or british but even to arabs and asians.
The quickest way to be heard is trying to speak like these people (americans or Brits) who cant hear you. Asians and arabs ahve grown up watching american movies and mingling with the Brits, so their ( Brits or American) type of accent is hearable and hence universal-much like the dollar is the globally accepted currency everywhere. So for you to be heard, you a naija boy or girl just stepping into America must speak like them.
COME ASK OKADA PEOPLE NAA
Over time, if you stay there long enough, you start speaking like these people and substitute your Naija accent for theirs. Some people manage to retain their naiaja accent and use that when home only to switch to their americana accent when they go back.
Do you agree with me? or there is a more profound reason? Share your thoughts |

Celebrities › Re: Juliet Ibrahim Questions Cost Of Ojb’s Kidney Transplant by Vincent41(m): 2:05pm On Jun 28, 2013 |
chisco: Popular Ghanaian actress, Juliet Ibrahim questions the $100,000 reportedly required for OJB Jezreel’s kidney transplant.
The light skinned beauty in a statement posted on Instagram said, ‘I know a kidney transplant will not cost more than 50k USD. Why are they requesting 100K when so many deals with cheaper hospitals out there in India even in Ghana can be worked out?’
Miss Ibrahim who incidentally runs a kidney foundation also added, ‘To get the necessary help, those in charge of OJB’s fundraising need to reach out to the right people and stop harassing celebrities for funds’.
While also saying that people should refrain from harassing celebs over donations for the transplant she told fans, ‘Who said your 1000 Naira cannot amount to something that can raise the sum needed for OJB’s transplant’.
Meanwhile fans have continued to harass celebs on social media for alleged poor response to donation requests for the ailing producer’s transplant. Source:http://ghanaweb.com/GhanaHomePage/entertainment/artikel.php?ID=278072 THUNDER FIRE DAT HER MOUTH |

I'm just wondering who seconds him in Africa. Well in my opinion OBJ or Pst. Adeboye of Nigeria should fit into that position judging by their unprecedented achievements in life. You may not like them but it has not stopped their achievement or influence

Robinson3d: Don Jazzy has got to be the most generous Nigerian celebrity ever. A few weeks ago he gave a mutual friend of ours who has kidney issues, N1million. And today I found out that he has also donated N1million to prolific music producer, OJB Jezreel. And let's not forget the N2million he gave cancer patient Funmi Lawal last year and many more things I hear he does very quietly. God bless him plenty. Also, thanks to Ruggedman who has also donated to OJB.
Now calling on other artists to please do same. OJB Jezreel needs N15million for a kidney transplant in India. This guy has done so much for music in Nigeria and had helped so many Nigerian artists achieve success. Now is the time to give back.
To donate, see the account details: Babatunde Okungbowa. UBA - 1015075120. Thanks

chidindufrank: Drogba robbed in Ivory Coast The iconic Galatasaray striker had €7,500 (£6,400) stolen from him when his hotel was raided during a visit back to his homeland but no suspects have been arrested By Kingsley Kobo 20 Jun 2013 18:40:00
Didier Drogba - 2012 Afrika Uluslar Kupası Galatasaray striker Didier Drogba was robbed in his hotel while on holiday in Abidjan.
The 35-year-old striker, who was back in his Ivory Coast homeland for a brief visit, returned to his room on June 12 to find his luggage unpacked and some €7,500 (£6,400) missing.
The Chelsea legend immediately reported the incident to the management of Hotel Ivoire, a five-star establishment and the country's biggest hotel, where several players from the national team spend their holidays.
Nobody has been arrested for burglary and the funds have not been recovered, according to the police, despite an investigation being opened.
Ivory Coast booked their place to the third and final round of World Cup qualifiers without Drogba but coach Sabri Lamouchi has suggested that the Elephants' all-time top scorer could return to the international fold for the next round of friendlies. http://m.goal.com/x/en-gb/news/4062670 SO SAD |

Politics › Re: Anambra Seek Oracle’s Help To End Kidnapping by Vincent41(m): 10:34am On Jun 11, 2013 |
Maxymilliano: The community says oracle acts faster than the police.
The 21 communities in Anambra West and Anambra East local government areas have agreed to consult a traditional oracle to combat kidnapping and other crimes in the area.
Chinedu Obidigwe, the Chairman of Anambra East Transitional Committee, confirmed the move in Aguleri on Monday.
Mr. Obidigwe said an oath would be administered to the people to stamp out the kidnapping and killings that had bedevilled the area in recent time. He said the oracle, known for its powers in the area, would help to instil discipline because the people know its potency.
“We decided to resort to traditional oracle because it acts fast, no going to police and seeking for bail or trying to bend the law. If anyone defies the oracle’s orders, he pays instantly,” he said
The Chairman of the traditional rulers of the communities, Roland Odegbo of Nteje, corroborated the development and said that the essence of the exercise was to reduce criminality to the barest minimum.
He advised the citizens to abide by the decision and avoid committing crimes, noting that such did not bring development to the area.
The communities have experienced kidnappings and killings in recent times by rival groups in the area.
Some of the communities in the two local governments are Ezi-Anam, Ifitie-Anam, Nzam and Oweelle in Anambra West; as well as Aguleri, Umuoba-Anam, Igbariam, Nando, Nsugbe, Umueri and Mkpunando-Otu Aguleriin Anambra East.
