Career / Re: How to Become Self-confident In 3 "Easy" Steps by violent(m): 8:05pm On Jul 30, 2012 |
confidence is completely different from skill. Public speaking or an ability to browse the internet are skills that do not necessarily translate to self confidence! I have found that the best way to build self confidence is actually building yourself into believing that no matter what you do, you can never be wrong!..that thinking will naturally ooze from you! |

People spend their money on anything they want as long as they've earned it legally. You and i do not and should not necessarily have the same definition of what could be regarded as wasteful. Some people work hard, save and invest money in the first place, based on the assumption that they are not likely to die the following week. Others simply want to live in the moment and not have to wait till they are 70 before they start to enjoy the goodies of life or buy their favorite sneakers. To each his own! I work hard, invest as much as I can and go on holidays with whatever I've got left. It's the way I chose to live my life. I want to go into my 70s with the nostalgic feeling of the times i've spent hiking in Bali or scuba diving the great barrier reef. What's the point tying my millions down only so my kids could spend them on those holidays? Entrepreneurs who make lots of money also indulge themselves with these nice treats. Otedola has a 20 million pounds Yacht. Anyone whose total family income is not up to a hundredth of that will probably think of that as a Waste, but Otedola has got only one life to live, if he dies tommorrow without spending a dime of it, all he's worked for will probably go to someone else who may or may not spend it lavishly. Money is meant to be spent mate! The argument that people who spend a lavishly on nice treaties may lose their jobs and be left broke is quiet a strong point. But the reality of life is that, everyone, entrepreneurs or employees, all face a certain uncertain future. I know of people who worked hard all their lives and invested in businesses that eventually suffered liquidity problems and went broke. I know of businesses that closed down due to increasing operating costs even though the owners have spent an entire life savings on it. I know of people who invested their life savings in equities that went down the drain a couple of years ago. The future is completely unknown, it's the risk we all take by choosing to live. 1 Like |

Kobojunkie: In a perfect world where elections are free and fair, it may be appropriate to blame electorates for who they voted for. Our's is far from being close to such perfection. If a lawmaker got his seat at the house by stealing 24 ballot boxes, then it is entirely inappropriate to claim he represents the electorate's wishes. Someone may ask, if this is the case, why aren't the electorates fighting for their votes or wishes to be counted? The truth is they did!...they fought, cried, wailed and no one listened!...In the cases where they staged protests, the Police was sent after them and ordered to shoot to kill....In the cases where they sued for Justice,..erhm, what Justice? There's no Justice, there's only the man with a big fat wallet who's got loads of money to buy the Judges and keep em in his wallet! Someone who wishes to hold a "not so realistic" point of view, may then ask "Why didn't the electorates just recall their lawmakers"...well here's the answer: Cos there's simply no one to bell the cat!...whoever attempts to do so may likely get a visit from paid marksmen with fully loaded Ak-47s!...Most people who died this way have died in vain. Till the end of time, the country will never bring Bola Ige's killers to Justice! The system is whacked!...completely out of place!...most people who rather stay in their enclaves and learn the rules of the Jungle than be consumed by it. |

I would encourage OP to lift the restriction on the use of words such as "idiotic", "moronic", "silly", “cretin”, “dimwit” etc. In my opinion, there are are often times when these words are not intended as an insult but a genuine reflection of the opinion presented. It also appears that females are largely underrepresented on the list of the debaters. I wouldn't imagine that this is an intentional omission, except of course in the bizarre case where OP strongly believes that there isn't a single female on this forum that is capable of making a strong reasonable articulate argument. |

You know, those street cameras, tracking devices, smart policing, an unbiased ruthless judicial system etc etc....We all want those! But it won't happen just yet!..The country is in tatters, mostly left in this pitiable state by those who believe they are completely immune to the laws and could get away with anything. The only way we can get to the point we wanted is when more people are shown they can't get away with breaking common rules. ndu_chucks: Some Nigerians are jokers! Fashola did not arrest anyone, if anything, he caused a massive traffic jam which resulted in millions of naira in lost revenues related to productivity losses enabled by Fashola's gustapo activities. I'm not sure you people know the meaning of arrest. BTW which law did Fashola break by stopping his convoy in heavy traffic? Isn't that a lawless act as well? I can't believe the things i read sometimes! Come here in a week, and you will see individuals like this and acidosis raising hell banners on why Nigeria is hell bent on the path to hell! Nigerians are often born and raised without moral standards, and becoming naturally lawless. It now becomes laughable when these lawless individuals turn around to blame leaders for the country's many woes. If you want a better Nigeria, you must first be a better Nigerian, why is that even hard to understand? Theoretically, millions of naira may have been lost in productivity, but the law, which is priceless, was enforced at that point in time. I can't see why any Nigerian with good intentions for the country will oppose such an action. What gave the military officer the right to drive on the wrong side of the road? Does he have a different Nigerian passport? Nigerian men in uniform are known to often behave as though the law doesn't apply to them. Little wonder you have cases of battering and killings perpetuated by these people and times without number, get away without impunity. Someone has got to restore order!!! I wonder if you will also repeat your nonsensical statement about the heavy traffic, if the governor had stopped to intervene in the case of a public member getting assaulted by the men in Uniform? 9 Likes |

"This is because you must be alive before you will eat food” Wow!...I didn't even know this. Okija_juju: Nigeria.. A country that puts the cart before the horse ... Nigerians are accustomed to a very lawless environment. I grew up in Naija learning basic road signs but it's only in very occasional cases that I have actually seen people pay attention to any of these. You see people speed over zebra crossings, park their danfos in areas which says "No parking" and smash up their gears in places where the signs says "slow down"!!!! Someone has got to put some order in place. |

Sky-walker: It does appear to me that you may be the idiot here. I can't honestly think of anything more symptomatic of stark insanity than calling someone who attempts to bring order to a chaotic environment an idiot. Let's even assume for a minute that your foolish statement is correct and there are no speed limits on ANY road in Nigeria, should that also imply that such aberration must continue to exist? Isn't it smarter that a means to enforce a law exists before such laws come into effect? You shouldn't just jam your toothed mandibles together to appear intelligent. If you can't support what appears to be a very smart move to reduce the number of fatal crashes that takes place on our highways by careless drivers, you should at least learn to shut your mouth. I unnerved a few of my friends the other day when i remarked that there aren't any hopes that the future of this country can still be salvaged from the mess my generation and my father's, have made of it. This thread further contributes to the strength my argument. Words couldn't possibly describe what my initial reaction to OP's post was: Probably best described as a sequence of disbelief, skeptical, appalled and horrified (and in that order.) What sort of country pays it's teachers a basic salary of 104 dollars to teach the next generation of scholars? The future of this country cannot hold, you simply can't by quality for cheap!!!! I have mentioned in one thread before, and i will do so here again: Woe betide whoever is spending funds that ought to be rightly spent on education in this country on holidays abroad and new houses in Maitama. @OP. Sorry that all my rant isn't probably what you needed at this point, i was probably a little out of touch to be jolted back to reality by your thread. I have often encouraged people to learn to draw a line on just how much they or their service is worth and to learn not to sell below this line!....I'm not in a position to judge whoever is paying you 17 grand a month. His or her ability to afford your services will depend on how much he or she is making as profit at the end of the day. You, sir, however, have options and if i were you, i know what i will be choosing. Unless if of course, you are a staunch believer of the hugely sold crap about teachers rewards being in heaven. Here's what i will do if at the end of the day if i couldn't get an academic job that pays a lot more than this: I will channel my efforts into my fish farm. I will build networks with anyone that can afford to at least buy a fish (and for those who can't, they probably have families and friends who can). I will seek to expand my sales and market dominance within local market and among retailers on a strict cash and carry basis. I will begin building my contacts by speaking to the parents and guardians of my student/pupils. Once I've had a strong base of loyal costumers, i will resign my current low paying job to focus more on my fish farm. Lastly, I will raise my kids never to give anything to this country and to take from it everything!! But then, that's just me. Note that this assumes that you have a strong knowledge of fish farming and a great personality to build networks. If in the case you don't have a strong knowledge of fish farming, the word fish in the preceding paragraph could be replaced with anything from cassava to cow milk. Goodluck and all the best. 1 Like |

In which sector does this company operate? In my opinion, you really can't complain of a lower wage if the company and the sector commands such. It wouldn't matter how brilliant your academics are. If my driver has an MBA from Harvard, i wouldn't really pay him a hundred grand because of his degree. I know being out of Job is not easy, but sometimes, being pigeonholed in a company or a sector where you don't belong isn't necessarily better. Why, with a masters in Financial Mathematics would you want to work as a Project Development officer? You are bloody better than that mate!!!! Get out there and network. Prove yourself and show people what kind of stuff you are made up. Write a sample proposal for a risk model and send it out to financial houses. Get on excel and design optimization spreadsheets that anyone will kill for. Truth is, people may not know what their company is missing until you show them. Unfortunately, this is not as easy as i may be making it, but I've been there and i have done it, and i know it is doable. My experience is probably a lot worse than yours. 2 Likes |

I think how people bring up their kids matters more, regardless of what technology they are exposed to at a tender age. Kids can learn and develop variety of skills if exposed early to sound technology, what counts more are the core principles and values you instill in them....It wouldn't matter who he's chatting with on his BB, as long as he understands what you parents consider acceptable and what is not...he should also understand that you won't bat an eye to enforce the boundaries between the good, the bad and the unspeakable. Social skills are developed at a tender age, Parents, in their paranoia to shield their kids from the ugly world should not restrict their ability to grow and develop freely. Porn is always going to be everywhere, you can't shield your kids completely from it....you can only instill in them good moral values. |
