Gunmen have killed the councillor representing Ward 6 in the Sagbama Local Government Area of Bayelsa State, Mr Karma Agagowei.
Agagowei was said to have been shot in the Opolo area of Yenagoa, the state capital, while returning from the ward congress of the Peoples Democratic Party on Saturday.
The victim was rushed to two hospitals in Yenagoa, but was allegedly not treated due to the absence of a police report.
It was gathered that he died shortly after.
It was learnt that one person, who was with the deceased in a commercial tricycle at the time of the incident, was also attacked with machetes by the hoodlums. He, however, escaped with wounds.
The late Agagowei was among the 105 councillors, who were elected during the state local government council election in August last year.
When contacted, the state Police Public Relations Officer, Mr Asinim Butswat, said he was awaiting details of the incident. ,,
The Ghanaian Minister of Information, Kojo Nkrumah, on Sunday, defended the $1m trade levy and other regulations imposed on Nigerian traders in Ghana, noting that Nigeria had equally issued executive orders preventing foreigners from getting jobs which Nigerians can do.
The minister said it was astonishing that Ghanaian laws could be described as outrageous, noting that it was on record that Nigeria had taken a number of steps in pursuit of its national interests.
He cited the closure of the Seme-Krake borders since August 2019 as part of steps taken by the Federal Government, which he said had affected the neighbouring countries.
Nkrumah accused Nigerian traders in Ghana of gross violations of retail trade laws, including tax evasion, immigration offences, and selling substandard products.
Nkrumah stated this in reaction to a statement by the Minister of Information and Culture, Lai Mohammed, that the Federal Government would no longer condone the reported harassment of Nigerians in the former Gold Coast.
Mohammed had in his statement on Friday listed various acts of aggression against Nigeria and its citizens by the Ghanaian authorities, including the takeover of some Nigerian diplomatic properties, discriminatory deportation of 825 Nigerians within one year and harsh jail sentences on Nigerians.
But Nkrumah said contrary to Mohammed’s claims that 825 Nigerians were deported between January 2018 and February 2019, only 700 Nigerians involved in fraud, prostitution, and armed robbery were deported from Ghana.
Nkrumah stated, “The Federal Republic (Nigeria), on the other hand, is on record to have taken a number of steps in recent months, in pursuit of her national interests, which have gravely affected other countries in the region.
“These include the closure of Nigeria’s Seme-Krake border from August 2019 to date and the issuance of executive orders by Nigeria’s Presidency preventing foreigners from getting jobs which Nigerians can do, to mention a few.”
The minister assured that the Ghanaian President, Nana Akufo-Addo, would engage with Nigeria’s President, Major General Muhammadu Buhari (retd.), and develop a framework for validating the claims of ill-treatment of citizens of either country and ensure they enjoy the full exercise of their rights while respecting the sovereignty and laws of both countries.
Nkrumah said his counterpart’s assertion on the alleged seizure of Nigerian Mission property located at No. 10, Barnes Road, Accra, was incorrect, noting that the land was acquired by Nigeria from a private citizen, Thomas Hardy, on October 23, 1959.
The minister explained that the commercial lease on the land expired 46 years ago without any evidence of renewal by the Nigerian High Commission in Ghana.
On the high residency permit levies, including the $120 for COVID-19 test imposed by the authorities, Nkrumah stated that this applied to all foreigners and not just Nigerians.
Speaking on the closure of over 1,000 shops belonging to Nigerians over non-payment of the $1m trade levy, the information minister stated, “The compliance exercises conducted in the selected markets revealed gross violations of retail trade laws and regulations by Ghanaians and foreigners, including Nigerians.
“These violations included tax evasion, immigration offences, trading in substandard products, violation of the Ghana Investment Promotion Centre law, improper registration of firms, under-payment of business operating permits, falsification of documents, among others.”
Meanwhile, the Anambra State Governor, Willie Obiano, on Sunday condemned Ghana’s hostile policies targeted mainly at Nigerian.
In separate letters to Buhari; Foreign Affairs Minister, Geoffrey Onyeama and Lai Mohammed, Obiano said Ghana was not being fair to Nigerians, given the major role that the late Dr Nnamdi Azikiwe, played “in reshaping the history and destiny of Ghana.”
In one of the letters made available to our correspondent in Awka, the Anambra State by the state Commissioner for Information and Public Enlightenment, C-Don Adinuba, Obiano said, “After all, it was the Great Zik of Africa (Nnamdi Azikiwe) who, as Editor-in-Chief of The African Morning Post in Accra in the 1940s, discovered the promising and intelligent young man known as Kwame Nkrumah and encouraged him to travel to the United States for further education and even secured admission for the young man in Zik’s alma mater, Storer College in Philadelphia.
“The Anambra State government notes that it will be a profoundly sad development if Ghanaians create the impression that non-Africans are welcome to their country but not fellow blacks and Africans.”
Big Brother Naija ‘lockdown’ housemate, Kiddwaya has opened up on not getting much love from his parents while growing up.
According to the billionaire son, his father was always bringing money in place of love while his mother only shows motherly love to him.
Kiddwaya revealed this go Erica when she complained that he doesn’t show her much love.
Kidd said his dad, Terry Waya has always replaced love with money. Since he doesn’t have enough time to spend and shower his love, he spends and gives him money instead, so his love was like money to him.
In his words;
“I don’t easily get to express my love or how I feel for a lady, I didn’t grow up that way, am probably being so because of how I had lived and grown up. My dad doesn’t show much love, he is not around to give it so he gives money instead and my mom, well she shows motherly love as supposed, but I think I wanted more love from them.”
Ozo emerged winner after a rigorous dice battle with the other eligible housemates. Obviously, not a newcomer to the challenge, Ozo reigned supremacy over the other housemates as his closest rival was Vee.
However, Vee couldn’t win the challenge because of the timing of her scores. For his deputy, Ozo selected Nengi as first choice, Dorathy as second and Vee as third.
Winning the head of house games earns Ozo and his deputy immunity from this week’s evictions as well as exclusive access to the HOH lounge.
The new HOH and his deputy selected Neo and Vee as their guest for the week.

No fewer than 15,000 applicants are to be screened for the ongoing 140 police recruitment slots in Gombe State.
The recruitment exercise started on Monday with Akko Local Government Area at the police officer’s mess, Gombe, and would end on September 6, 2020.
Deputy Commissioner of Police, Aliyu Adamu, said only applicants with basic five credit in Ordinary level subjects, including English and Mathematics among other conditions were considered for screening.
He said, “Over 15,000 applicants were shortlisted for capturing here (Gombe). You should not forget that 10,000 are meant to be recruited across the 774 local governments in the country.”
He, however, lamented poor internet network, noting that he and his men were overwhelmed by the large turnout for the exercise.
He adding that “the challenge we initially faced was the issue of internet network but we refused to be frustrated.
“Initially, we were using just one computer for the capturing but when we saw the turnout, I had no option but to order for two more.”

Artiiclebeast: The herdsmen sympathizers amongst them who'd, of course, be in the majority, as usual, will be finishing off any of the Southern Kaduna escapees/survivors who manage to Church evade the marauding un-uniformed killers.
It can never be balanced or impartial so long as their sponsors and commanders are still the ones in power and calling the shots.

Church Most Nigerians sees opportunity as benefiting from a weak system. That's why I always say, it is better to build a strong institution than build a strong man like Mugabe and other African leaders. What Africans are suffering from is strong institution.
Once we have it...white men will rush to come to us and benefit our social justice system.
Cti28: Which of the story should we believe now? Another reason may likely come up tommorow. Church They should just tell us the truth - we know it is a reprisal. We won't do anything, we would only wail online using our keypads.

Omooba77: They will come to tell us corruption is just saving face..... Corruption is endemic, clearing cars at our ports, custom just give arbitrary charge without documentations of how much was truly paid.
