Politics / What Pastors And Politicians Have In Common by Voice234: 2:23pm On Mar 06 |
Moral disconnects, lust and insatiability for money, wealth, fame, influence and power have conspired to bring most men of God to the level of politicians. With similarities in affluence and avarice, both pastors and politicians now operate on same frequencies. They buy private jets, lodge in diplomatic suites in 5-star hotels during local and foreign travels, send their children to expensive schools abroad, buy houses abroad, procure citizenship of foreign countries for themselves and immediate families, live in highbrow areas, enjoy retinue of domestic staff, and site projects funded with church or government money in their villages and home towns. Besides, they also drive expensive exotic cars and SUVs with convoy of security escorts for protection. Use of escorts by politicians is understandable because they are vulnerable to public attacks owing to lifestyle Process for funding their voracious and lavish lifestyles is similar. While politicians deploy all sort of illusions to embezzle public funds, including collection and diversion of constituency funds for private interests, some men of God obtain pecuniary advantage over their members through hoaxes, guilt and fear. They ensure management of tithes, offerings, seed and first fruit are under their exclusive preserve, including compelled donations orchestrated to look voluntary, but mechanically designed to appeal to emotions of congregates. There is no accountability and transparency. Financial management and utilization of these sources of income are shrouded in secrecy, except to the knowledge of immediate families of pastors and GOs or a few carefully selected loyal church members. Due to seemingly shared values, politicians who contested elections and won through rigging and other fraudulent processes, are offered opportunities in the Pentecostal churches to offer thanksgiving to God for a “successful” election. They are even allowed to step on the pulpit to share testimonies and minister to congregation, with prayers offered to them thereafter, and sometimes, along with prophesies. Before departure, the politicians make donations to the church, most of which are redeemed with looted funds. Looted funds are accepted as donations, gift, seed, tithes or offering. Pastors and GOs are not bothered about the sources of funds nor the integrity or character of donors. As long as it swells the revenue base of the church, it is acceptable. This is the attraction accounting for proliferation of Pentecostal churches in Nigeria. https://www.ripplesnigeria.com/opinion-what-pentecostal-pastors-have-in-common-with-politicians/

Religion / Saudi Arabia Approves Sale And Consumption Of Alcohol by Voice234: 11:38pm On Jan 24 |
Saudi Arabia is planning to open its first alcohol store exclusively for non-Muslim diplomats. According to Reuters on Wednesday, a source familiar with the plans said the store will be located at Riyadh’s Diplomatic Quarter, a neighbourhood where embassies and diplomats reside. The liquor store, expected to be opened in the coming weeks, will be “strictly restricted” to non-Muslims. According to a document cited by the report, customers will have to register through a mobile application, get a clearance code from the foreign ministry, and subscribe to monthly quotas for their purchases. Confirming the report, Saudi Arabia’s government spoke on the development in a statement via the Center of International Communication (CIC) — the Kingdom’s media organisation. The agency said the government is imposing new restrictions on alcohol imports within diplomatic consignments. The CIC said the new regulations had been introduced to counter the illicit trade of alcohol goods and products received by diplomatic missions. This new process will continue to grant and ensure that all diplomats of non-Muslim embassies have access to these products in specified quotas,” the statement reads. Saudi Arabia has strict laws against alcohol consumption which is punishable by hundreds of lashes, deportation, fines, or imprisonment. As part of the reforms, whipping has largely been replaced by jail sentences and alcohol has been available only through diplomatic mail or on the black market. A source also told TheCable that the move is purely diplomatic, aimed at stemming illegal sales of alcoholic drinks. So the regulation is diplomatic. Diplomats have the right to bring alcohol into the country. What happens is they bring too much wine and they put it on the black market,” the source said. “So when they get to the airports, no one fines or charges them. So the government just wants to control that and is restricted to only the diplomatic area. Those diplomats who sell have like a code and can’t sell a number of alcohol.” Although consumption is still under tight scrutiny, the Kingdom’s reform could mean that some Middle Eastern nations are shifting grounds from their conservative views about liquor intake. On January 2, 2023, the government of Dubai cancelled its 30 percent alcohol tax to boost tourism in the emirate. Dubai also scrapped the personal liquor licence fees, thereby making the acquisition of the permit free for alcohol consumers in the United Arab Emirates region. The UAE government had said the move was to make the city more attractive to foreigners https://www.thecable.ng/to-curb-illicit-trade-saudi-arabia-to-open-first-liquor-store-for-diplomats

How is this politics? A country that survives on loans and handouts is destroying its infrastructure. And you wonder why the west are not giving us loans and we now resort to China with their crazy conditions/interest rates. Politics / Stop Japa: Nigerian Govt In Talks To Stop Migration Of Health Workers To The UK by Voice234: 12:35pm On Nov 20, 2022 |
The United Kingdom says it will support the Nigerian government in preventing brain drain in the country’s health sector. Catriona Laing, British high commissioner to Nigeria, said the commitment was necessary following a recent spike in visa applications from Nigerians. The Nigerian Medical Association (NMA) had earlier expressed concern with the recent trend of medical doctors leaving the country. The medical body said there may be a need to hire doctors from foreign countries in the future. Speaking on Sunday at the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in Abuja, Laing said the UK was mindful of the situation and was in talks with the Nigerian government to avoid causing a brain drain, especially in the health sector. “We have a labour shortage in the UK at the moment. But we have to balance that because we do not also want to be responsible for a massive brain drain from Nigeria because you also need talented people,” Laing said. “So the health sector is an example where there are a lot of Nigerian medics, both nurses and doctors, in the national health service.” She, however, expressed her delight that the UK had become an attractive destination for Nigerians, especially students, adding that the UK was ready to welcome talent. “You know, there are obviously people of Nigerian origin in the UK. So, people like to go where they have family or where they have friends. “Secondly, the English language makes it a lot easier. “Thirdly is the education, and people who have studied will want to return. And I think you know, we are a welcoming country, and we want to welcome talents, whether it’s people coming to study or people coming to work. “So, a lot of Nigerians will be tuned to the UK, and we have seen a very big increase in requests for Nigerian student visas. That is partly because we have changed our policy. “So it is now easier for Nigerians, students to remain after their studies, they can stay, I think up to two years if you have done a masters or a PhD, which will enable people to look for work after they have studied.” According to Home Office, Nigerians accounted for the highest increase in the number of dependants accompanying persons with study visas for the year ending in June 2022. The UK had said migrants from Nigeria may face restrictions following the country’s plans to cut net migration. https://www.thecable.ng/immigration-uk-in-talks-with-nigeria-to-halt-brain-drain-in-health-sector-says-envoy 1 Like 1 Share

Good morning house and great job @Tunlex01, got ITA on the 6.10.2022, Mechanical Engineer. Currently applying and I was told to list my addresses in the past 10yrs. how far can this go; would it include every hostel/lodge I lived in while schooling, NYSC and masters? Secondly I wrote another IELTS before the ITA, which has a higher score, can I substitute it for the former IELTS I use in my EOI that gave me this ITA even when it's yet to expire ?? |
