Education / Primary Schools In Rivers State Now Collecting Exams Fees (photos) by VOICEOFJUSTICE: 2:55pm On Mar 04, 2016
It is a Pity that the Rivers State own primary schools are now collecting exams fees from pupil. A particular example is one Community Primary School in one of the community in Oyigbo LGA( I no wan make them sack person but if them no return the money I go name name). Apart from pupil bringing two tissue papers and two pieces of toilet soap termly which is not out of place, the school head-mistress has gone further to make it mandatory for all pupils to pay the sum of N2,500 (Two Thousand Five Hundred Naira) each as exam fees. She claim that this directive is from the state Government.

It is a pity. So it means the past administration of Rotimi Amaechi is far better than that of Wike's as Rotimi provided free book, uniforms and sport wears and the exams papers were all free.

If this directive is not coming from the State Government then the public should be address accordingly because JAMB is now N2, 500 why will a 4 year old child be asked to pay same in a government own Primary school?

It is not about how a maritime school should look. It is about having buildings befitting a University environment in tandem with the amount disbursed for such purpose. If we cannot replicate the feat of yesteryears seen in old generation Federal Institutions, we should at least have a scaled version of such schools.

The design and quality of construction look very shabby and poor. I am sad, because more could have been achieved with the much they must have claimed to have spent.

It is high time we clamored for an end to mediocrity in Nigeria. I am a member of the Construction Industry and it feels really sad.

You were one of those saying GEJ did nothin. I can see how it pained you to see this. GEJ did nothin abi? have you seen the 9 FED Universties? Have you seen Gas and Oil polytechnic in Bonny? You have no idea how expensive it is to build in such a terrain. You were one of those clapping for Amaechi. I pray for you that your eye be open to see beyound your nose. I can not be deceived. Instead of things to improve, it get worse and worse. Mr. Brutu since the last one year has been bringing policies that has even made me sack so many worker because we were loosing so much of our customers. The most painful part is that instead of Brukutu to make things work, he resorted into blaming My formal MD Mr. Ekon for his failure. He recently came to my office and was begging me not to drop workers again and I told him will i pay them with tears? We both know that my company was not doing well, that was why i hire Brukutu to fix it. Pls I need advice cos am tired and will not hessitate to fire him by January ending shocked shocked grin grin

What Obasanjo Said On Atiku In His Book

Former president Olusegun Obasanjo in his autobiography “My Watch” has taken a swipe at his former deputy, Atiku Abubakar, former Senate president, Ken Nnamani, ex-Lagos state governor, Bola Tinubu and former minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Mallam Nasir el-Rufai, defining most of them as liars.

obasanjo book - autobiography my watch

The former president in the book gave a vivid account of how the no-love-lost relationship between him and Atiku began right from the inception of their government.

The book which is divided into three volumes with 58 chapters and a total of 1,522 pages; is presented like Obasanjo’s responses to all who have criticized him in the past as well as those he believed wronged him politically.

Read the extract on Atiku below:

“From the day I nominated Atiku to be my vice, he set his mind not for any good, benefit or service of the country, but on furiously planning to upstage, supplant or remove me at all cost and to take my place.

“That was what I brought him for, but he was impatient and over-ambitious. He was not ready to learn and to wait. His marabout, who predicted that despite being elected as governor, he would not be sworn in as a governor, which happened, also assured him that he would take over from me in a matter of months rather than years.

“All his plans, appointments of people and his actions were towards the actualisation of his marabout’s prediction. Once I realised his intention and programme, I watched him like a hawk without giving any indication of what I knew and letting down my guard. I could not succumb to the distraction, diversion and malevolence of an ambitious but unwise deputy.

“The work in hand was more important than a confrontational relationship with my deputy, a man over whom I knew I had far more experience and outreach in all matters. To alert him of what I knew he was up to, would only lead to lying, denial, more mischievous plans and more duplicity on his part.

“He was better managed that way. What was important was not allowing myself to be surprised or outmanoeuvred by him. I must always seize the initiative and know what was going on if not in his mind, but at least in his camp. That I did very effectively.

“Sometime in the fourth quarter of 2004, an associate of Atiku came to my residence at the Aso Villa from Atiku’s official residence. He felt uncomfortable and I tried to make him feel at ease. Then, he settled to tell me the story of what had just transpired in Atiku’s residence. I listened with rapt attention.

“He went on to say that Atiku told him that for him to become the President of Nigeria, the 2007 elections were only a formality.

“The seven ingredients he needed for his enthronement were already in his hands. He controlled the National Assembly because both the President of the Senate and the Speaker of the House of Representatives were in his pocket. He controlled twenty-eight out of thirty-six governors. He had control of the media. His influence over the judiciary was overwhelming.

“What he needed was foreign endorsement and for that he had employed two lobby groups in the US and one in the UK. And finally, the money for the elections was in his purse.

“When the man finished, I thanked him without passing any comment. The man was surprised at my reaction and asked, ‘You have nothing to say to these?’ I said that I had nothing to say and I immediately called my ADC, Chris Jemitola, to play a game of squash with me.

“On our way to the squash court with my ADC, I said, ‘People at times make plans and leave God out of their plans.’ My casual remark struck Chris and he said, ‘Sir, that was a profound statement.’ I said that I made the statement because of what I had just heard of Atiku’s plan. I was not convinced he had put God in his plans.

“Atiku was confident and God was laughing. Most of Atiku’s ingredients soon started to fall out of place one by one. The first was the party, PDP.

“He thought I was powerless and had no clue about the execution of his plan with his group; part of his attack on me was for national chairman of the party to give the first salvo, then other things would follow as his grip on the party would be firm and consolidated.

“That salvo came in the form of a letter to me from the chairman of the party, Audu Ogbeh, who had fully defected with (Iyorchia) Ayu to Atiku.

“The letter, which was not the product of any issue or matter discussed with or at any party meeting, came suddenly. When I received it, I could read the sinister intention behind it.

“I spent that night writing my reply and I sent it in the morning. My reply was clear. I wondered why Atiku and his group did not realise that with my reply, the battle line was clear or maybe they thought that the seven ingredients would remain intact to the end.

READ ALSO: Controversy: Fayose Blasts Obasanjo, Faults APC

“My assistants had moles within the Atiku group. Anything that they planned would be reported. That was the case after Ogbeh’s letter. They decided that Ogbeh should appear remorseful and come with the National Working Committee to apologise to me. It was not from their hearts, but to lure me to a ‘killing ground’.

“All pieces of information that were reported were verified because it would not come from only one informant.

“Timely information is a very important principle of war and also of politics. In politics, just as in war, what matters is not just your plan, but knowledge of your opponent’s plan. Knowing their plan, I had the choice of playing along with them or being firm, I chose the latter.

“I told Ogbeh that my relationship with him as national chairman and me as national leader of the party was based on mutual confidence and trust. But with his letter, my reply and what I knew of him then, I could no longer work with him in confidence and trust.

“There were only two choices left for both of us in our best interest and that of the party – he, leaves as chairman or I leave as leader of the party.

“The following Sunday, I called at his house, which I had done on several occasions in the past when there was an important party matter to discuss. This time, I asked him to give me an undated letter of resignation as the national chairman.

“I waited, he gave me but it was wrongly addressed to me rather than to the national secretary of the party as stipulated in the party’s constitution.

“Ogbeh reported to his group and it was decided by them to play on and to wait for my disgrace whenever I presented a letter of resignation not addressed to the national secretary.

“The informants did their job and I, once again, paid another visit to Ogbeh at his residence. He entertained me to a meal and drink, and changed the addressee on his letter of resignation.”

Boko Haram: 3032 Pardoned Soldiers Refuse Redeployment

Thousands of soldiers who were pardoned last August for various alleged offences during campaigns against the Islamic terrorist group, Boko Haram, have rejected redeployment to the battle fronts in the northeast.

The soldiers totaling about 3032 soldiers, explained that they were never really pardoned and re-integrated into the Army, but rather, re-sentenced to the war front.

Vanguard reports that this created anxiety at the command and staff college, Nigerian Army School of Infantry (NASI), in Jaji, Kaduna state.

The soldiers who claimed to have been subjected to unimaginable ill treatment after their pardon – were gathered by the commandant of NASI, Major General Kassim Aldulkareem, to inform them that they have been assigned new riffles and should be ready for deployment to the fronts on Monday, January 11, 2016.

Sources inform that the soldiers complained that they have not been fully re-instated into the Nigerian Army, because attempts by them to report to their units were rejected at their bases since they have no re-instatement letters.

The soldiers also said that since they have been kicked out of the barracks they have not been paid for seven months making their families who live off-barracks begging for food.

Witnesses said they cried, “We are not going! Give us re-instatement letters! You are sentencing us back to war,” among others.

According to sources, the commandant hurriedly left when the soldiers were becoming uncontrollable.

One of the soldiers who spoke to some newsmen on grounds of anonymity, said: “Look at me; I have put in about 28 years of my life serving this country. I have seen action in Liberia; I have been to Rwanda, Sudan and even served overseas and we the Nigerian troops did very well and were decorated in some occasions.

“But, our experience in fighting to save our motherland is too sad a story for the outside world to know. We are not cowards. We held on for over four months facing Boko Haram.

“I just want to say that after the Army dismissed about 5,000 of us, 3032 of us were pardoned last August. Since that time, the Army Authority has treated us like prisoners of wars.”
“We were told to assemble in Jaji on August 17, which we did. Then on August 19, the General Officer Commander (GOC), of 1st Infantry Division, Maj Gen Adeniyi Oyebade gathered us and without prior noticed moved us to Nigerian Army training Centre (NATRAC), Kontogora. Some of us found ourselves there in bathroom slippers. We were just taken straight to the place. Then, without any additional clothes or uniform, we were subjected to what was clear punishment, not training for another three weeks.

“Still in the clothes we came, we were again relocated to 333 artillery Barracks, Njetilo, Maiduguri. We got nothing but constant insults as cowards. We were there without uniforms no arms. They just left us there and we were abused and told to assemble at every two hours through these days for another three weeks.

“In Jaji, we went through another round of punishment, not training. Yet, we were not given any letter to show that we are still serving soldiers.

“So when the Commandant came and said we were going back to the North East, without clearing our status, we felt we have been punished enough.” the soldier said.

Spokesman for the Nigerian Infantry Corps, Major CK Abaide, told pressmen on phone that he was not aware of the development. He said he would get back to the correspondents to share the army’s side of the story.

Meanwhile, the Nigerian army on Wednesday, January 6, said that implementing the Treasury Single Account (TSA) by the federal government was reason for the delay in payment of allowances to some of its officers.
