JOHNSONSOLAFUNMI:Did I mention any tribes in my discourse? You're telling me about diplomacy, is it not your fellow southerner that have been drooling with insults and foolish assumptions all over my mention. Was it not one of you that said the south west would dam the river out of attrition and wickedness. Why Niger, Mali and others never invoked the treaty is non of my business, but I'm telling you that if Nigeria ceases to exist, the North would invoke the law and treaty to gain access to sea. If you're smart, you would know that many wars in history have been fought over Territorial access to sea. In the face of hostility and enmity to our interests, we would fight a war to its logical conclusion. We certainly won't be the first to do so, neither would we be the last. |
Balogunodua:The River Nile flows from Ethiopia to Egypt while the River Niger flows from North to South. If anyone is doing the fucking up, it's going to be us. |
hargbolahan01:Finally someone with shallow facts worth a reply. First of all, the River Nile flows from Ethiopia to Egypt not the other way round, that's the opposite of River Niger which flows from North to South. Also, Egypt is a coastal nation with enough access to sea. The River Nile doesn't serve as a source of transportation or international connection to Egypt, yet they're making so much noise about it. Egypt only needs the Nile for minor agricultural and diplomatic reasons. Now imagine the North with a River Niger as our only access to sea and international waters. What do you think would happen if you mess with it. FULL BLOWN WAR!!!. The war would be fatal and deadly because we have nothing to lose. Besides, the River Nile is not designated as an international waterway. It's simply a river passing through several countries. Do you know it's the same Egypt that have been resisting the use of the River Nile for transport. Also your dam would be useless if the North dams our own side of the River to retaliate. You guys are really deficient in education. The River Nike flows from Ethiopia to Egypt not the way you think lol. |
HITMEUP4ANYBIZ:What sort of education did you have? or is the dumbness genetic? Did ever say we would artificially convert a river to a sea? Must all transportation be on seas, do you know there are barges of over 300ft that can carry up to 8000 tons of containers and goods on a trip. Everytime you southerners accuse us of literacy, but nairaland have shown me your education is just mediocre at best. Honestly you guys are disturbed. |
JAMO84:Inshallah, I am tired of educating all of you. No one can unilaterally dam any shared river without consequences. If you dam the river without permission from other countries, we would litigate the case up to all international courts. Your country would bear full cost of reparation and damages, while risking international sanctions and war. |
TheGodlessGod:Yes I know we are considered landlocked, but it doesn't mean we can't have access to the sea. You have to understand access to sea and landlocked are different things. Most Nigerians think they are the same. |
You are the educated illiterate here. THE FACT THAT A COUNTRY IS LANDLOCKED DOES NOT MEAN IT HAS NO ACCESS TO THE SEA. Being landlocked means you have no territorial borders with the ocean, a landlocked country can still access the sea and use inland waterways to full potential. The hausa- fulani and other northern tribes would have access to sea in the event of separation as River Niger would be dredged and designated as international water. We're currently do not have sea access only because of the existence of Nigeria. If Nigeria dissolves, everything would change. TAKE NOTE!!!! |
alphaNomega:What do you mean by effective Navy? Our navy would patrol our waters from Kogi to Niger state borders. The river Niger would not only serve as means of transport, but also provide ecological/agricultural benefits and also serve as source of hydroelectric power like Kainji dam. Money from such projects and resources would be used to fund an adaptable, flexible and sophisticated navy. |
I have noticed different types of insults and mockery thrown to we Northerners because we're sharing the same country with a lot of poorly educated literate. One of the biggest reasons southerners accuse us of loving Nigeria is due to the misconception that Northern Nigeria is landlocked and wouldn't be able to survive as an independent country. This is one of the biggest lies ever told in the history of the world. Do you know, that if Nigeria separates today, the River Niger according to international water laws would be designated as an international waterway. According to the "1911 Madrid Declaration", all states that share a body of water are physically dependent on each other. This is one of the basis on which the United nations treaty on International trade and development was formed.. According to the United nations convention on law of the sea also known as treaty of the sea to which Nigeria is a member, all landlocked states must be given a right of access to and from the sea without taxation on traffic in transit. This means, that the River Niger must serve as an international waterway whose resources and features would be jointly controlled by all states or countries sharing this body of water. Do you know that former president Yardua before his demise, embarked on the dredging of the River Niger to provide access to international vessels and ships. I don't know what Buhari is doing right now, but this project would be the priority of the incoming Northern president in 2023. Some myopic individuals would come and say that southern Nigeria can always block our access to the sea as an independent country. I'll let you know that in the event of separation and designation of River Niger as international waters, any act of blockage or sabotage by any bordering country would amount to an act of war and attract severe sanctions and military repercussions on that state. In the event of any blockage, southern Nigeria would be made to bear the full wrath of the United Nations and a United Northern Nigeria. Examples of where such situations occur are the Danube River in Europe, the South China sea in Asia and the Bolivian and Paraguay River channels. The river Nile is also a similar but non exact situation due to the harmony existing among countries connected to it. The use of River Niger as international waters would make the North have similar geography to Malaysia. Do you know that Malaysia is separated by the international waters of the South China Sea. Do you also know that to move between Malaysia means you probably have to cross international waters bordered by Malaysia, Singapore and Indonesia. My fellow arewa brothers and sisters, do not be deceived by the mockery of those that hate us. The North as it stands today is currently the most blessed region of Nigeria. With our unity, natural and mineral resources, soil, culture, population and landmass, Northern Nigeria stands to be the most developed in event of separation. Attached below are pictures and maps showing the River Niger, Danube River and water division of Malaysia. Cc: Mods frontpage please

Read the quoran with a modern and educated mindset, then you'll understand all which you see. |
Bede2u:That guy is not hausa. We're not full of uncontrollable hate like that. |
Halopy:Lol. You're just a novice when it comes to Nigeria. Keep on dreaming.. Lol |
NaMeAboki:Igbos are not saints, but I understand their misfeelings and grievance with this issue. This is the first time such a thing is happening in Nigeria. Well Bleep everyone feelings, the North don't care. |
anabose:This reasoning is flawed. An Igbo guy was a major financier of some APC ward candidates in kaduna. Where does this sort of politics leave people like him? |
etibaba:See I'm a Northerners and happy with our political domination, but as a true Muslim I can't stand inequality and injustice. This is situation would negatively affect cohesion and national unity. |
SGF is a very sensitive position. He must be Muslim first of all, then a northerner |
A man I respect so much |
There's still a long way to go before deciding who wins it. There's AFCON, COPA america, UEFA nations league and all. Both Messi, Sarah, Ronaldo Sadio Mane and Van Dijk would compete at different competitions for their countries. Whoever performs well then would stand a better chance. You guys should chill about the balon d'or. It's not even half of the year yet. |
Recently read security report from the IG of police about the breakdown of criminal prevalence in the country. Contrary to public opinion and what we all think, the North leads in the major crimes of kidnapping, banditry and armed robbery. This is apart from terrorism and mass killings which is prevalent up there. My question is : What the hell is going on in our precious arewa. Take a look at the statistics revealead below : 1071 persons (which all know is grossly underestimated) lost their lives in crime related cases in the country during the 1st quarter of 2019 . Of this number, a whopping 767( 71.6%) people were killed in the North. Out of this number, 436 were killed in the North West while 250 lives were taken in North Central. Please note that this figures are for crime related cases apart from terrorism and genocide, which the North east is champion of. Also note that only 28% of national crime deaths occurred in the South. Of this number, the south south region alone constituted 130 deaths or nearly 50% of crime related deaths in the South. In Kidnapping, 684 persons were kidnapped in the country during the 1st quarter of 2019. Of this number, a massive 80% or 546 persons were kidnapped in the North. The North West had 365 people kidnapped while the North Central had 145 kidnapped . Zamfara had the highest national kidnap rate followed by Kogi, Niger and Kaduna. For the crime of armed robbery, 212 major armed robbery cases were reported for the first quarter of 2019. The North came out tops with 130 cases or 60% of armed robbery cases in Nigeria. This time, the North Central took the lead with 81 armed robbery cases. Niger, FCT and Zamfara took the lead in this regard. This report shows a growing trend of crime and insecurity in the North. The country is still dealing with terrorism and mass murder in the North east and North Central, and armed robbery, kidnapping and banditry are being added to the list. With the lean resources from the south barely enough to keep this country afloat, I doubt if Nigeria can survive such deadly baggage from the North. The government need to nip this in the bud or see the North unknowingly ignite the disintegration of the country. Kudos to the South especially the South East and South West regions for the prevalent peace, security and safety of lives in his regions. This has shown the power of education and literacy in societal development Please my fellow arewa brothers and sisters, what can we do to rescue our home and remove this shame from upon us? See the link to the report from the IGP below: https://www.nairaland.com/5163103/1071-killed-685-kidnapped-first |
Exactly bro. I don't understand all this tribal warring about this issue. I might definitely have some issues with some cunning section of the country, but definitely not when it comes to my finances. Besides, the lead Supreme Court Judge that gave the order was a Yoruba man. It's actually disgusting watching people celebrating and morning for heartless corporations and businesses that would crush you in a heartbeat. Money does not respect tribe or race, never forget that. |
Hmmm... Crazy. Just for 10 naira. After they'll call us Northerners poor? |
Mace0lane:Yorubas and Igbos, very funny people. |
chudez0147:Oga what is your problem with Igbos. The topic is talking about zamfara and you're here talking of Igbos. This is getting out of hand. |
Lol. Igbos and their governors. Very funny lot |
Lol, but that guy sounded like a typical yoruba guy. |
Noticed Igbos are really the center of attention here. |
anigbajumo:LOL. One North is all we know |
Oga all these are just intellectual ramblings. We in the North have no need for this, and whatever we choose is what will be. Never forget this |
Good day everyone. With the upcoming presidential elections in two days time, I and a select group of intellectuals have promised ourselves to stop talking/ debating and make sure we vote on Saturday come rain or sunshine. However, before casting our votes, we have critically weighed the options before us, including the policies and achievements of the two front line candidates. It was while performing a critical review of the achievements of this government in different sectors that we hit a brickwall. I and my colleagues have carefully gone through most lists of the FG achievements and can't seem to find any notable one in the two critical sectors of health and education. I call on the present government supporters and opposition alike to please enlighten me and others like me on what this government have achieved in health and education. The only close semblance of any action in the education sector is the school feeding programme which is aesthetic or cosmetic at best and a modest failure in my opinion. In the health sector, I don't think any attempt was made towards developing any policy, talk less of any achievement. There is no sign of progress or development in this sector especially. I stand to be corrected with facts and figures showing the achievements of this government in this critical sectors. Please let's keep this thread decent and focus on good political discussion without sentiments, bias or animalistic display.I hope to make a final voting decision based on responses here. Thanks for your cooperation |
