rusher14: ^^^ Fair enough. We can start with the public expenditure profile. The wages, emoluments, estacodes etc. of public servants is where a good chunk of the money is getting lost. And the most egregious examples are found in both the executive and the legislature. Reform this part of government and see what happens. Public sector budgeting in Nigeria is a joke, full stop. We go through the charade of budget preparation, presentation, assent etc. every year. How come there isn't a federal budget review (with the same level of publicity) the following year to see compliance levels? 1 Like |

rusher14: ^^^ That isn't true and you know it. So many of us on here DID speak at length about the graft and directionlessness of the PDP years. The threads are there for anyone who wants to check. And that's precisely why we have the moral standing to speak out about the same problems in the current administration. No point trading one failed administration for another. No point whatsoever. |

GoodGovernance: ^^^ This country is no stranger to foreign borrowing. Every failed government in this country says the same thing: we need foreign borrowing to fund infrastructure. Why should anyone believe the Buhari administration? Other administrations said more - and look how that ended. |

juman: ^^^ They are putting party above country. To be blunt they are putting personal interests above country. This country is going back to the era of the 1980s. The SAP years and the foreign debt incurred (both from that era and the profligate era of the 1970s) put this country in serious trouble. It took years of untold suffering for Nigerians to clearly understand that the debt trap is something to avoid - at all costs. If the legislature simply approves any request from the executive - without the scrutiny that it is constitutionally required to carry out - then our 'democracy' is broken. |

iamloyalty: ^^^ A google search of the term "black stone" throws up info about the Kabba in Mecca but I wager that wasn't what you had in mind. The wonder of the black stone is simply capillary action at work. Its efficacy in treating envenomation seems highly doubtful. Romance / Re: Chinese Man 'Long Ting' Marries Nigerian Girl In Anambra by VolvoS60(m): 9:55pm On Dec 18, 2019 |
Far too many comments mocking the penis size of men of Chinese origin...far too many... The "genitally challenged" men from that part of the world have built some stable and prosperous societies - in Japan, South Korea and Singapore for example. And the Chinese are the next super power headed for complete world domination in the 21st century. It is inevitable. Meanwhile...some people from another part of the world brandish their 'donkey sized' members at every opportunity - as if that is adequate compensation for their broken, dysfunctional societies. To them - what's the point in having a country that works? After all, my phallus hangs lower than my knee caps - and that's all that really matters in the end, non? Rubbish. 5 Likes 1 Share |

I haven't seen any myself or heard from any one who has actually had an encounter with one (and I've had a few run-ins with juvenile rock pythons, forest cobras, puff adders and the ubiquitous (non-venomous) green snakes (forgotten the scientific name) found across Nigeria). Tpave: ^^^ The kerosene wasn't the antidote. There are a couple of possible reasons your neighbour survived: 1. The snake wasn't venomous. 2. The snake was venomous but delivered a "dry bite". Kerosene had nothing to do with it. Ingesting kerosene will only cause more serious harm. |

Politics / Re: Who ‘s Afraid Of Natasha – The Indomitable Amazon Of Kogi!- Dr Olufon. by VolvoS60(m): 6:34pm On Dec 13, 2019 |
middlebelter: ^^^ The people of Kogi State made their electoral choices last November and they will live with the consequences. That's all I have to say about the election. The public hearing on Ajaokuta is another example (out of so many) of why the future looks very bleak for this country. That clip should be required 'hearing' for all Nigerians and for Kogi state indigenes in particular. Successive Nigerian governments sold millions of Nigerian children into poverty, want, deprivation and slavery when they refused to complete that steel complex. And yet the main actors in these failed administrations got away with it with no consequences whatsoever. They are all free men who have not been held accountable for the treason they committed. Not a single public enterprise from that era of the last century exists today. Where is National Fertilizer Company of Nigeria (NAFCON)? Where is the Aluminum Smelter Company of Nigeria (ALSCON) whose technical partners/consultants (Ferrostal) also left in cloudy circumstances just like the Russians did? Where is the Ajaokuta Steel Complex (ASC)? Young people in Nigeria would rather watch Big Brother Nigeria/Africa, La Liga or UK Premiership football instead of the things that really matter. Those public enterprises I listed up there were supposed to provide jobs for Nigerians. Today, they are nothing but footnotes in history books. And yet Nigerian youths have nothing to say or do about this. Nigerian youths are not interested in history. They are not interested in politics. They are not interested in government. They are not interested in ethics. They are not interested in civics. They will not vote in elections (or when they do, they vote against their interests ) and yet they are angry that the country has gone to hell. A country gets the leadership it deserves. The "wasted generation" has failed miserably by its own admission - it clearly cannot help itself. And if that generation cannot save itself, how can it save others? If the younger generation - a generation that has known nothing but dystopia from the very beginning - does not take charge of its future, there will be nothing left here in the next half century. 2 Likes 1 Share |

Celebrities / Re: Islamic Poet Dares Etinosa To Use Quran As Ashtray (Video) by VolvoS60(m): 10:06am On Dec 06, 2019 |
faceland: ^^^ No Sir. My point is very clear. I will repeat it as many times as necessary. And I am not being unnecessarily idealistic, as you put it. As far as I am aware, I am not in any way provoking the spilling of innocent blood. Etinosa Idemudia's speech and actions have nothing to do with me. I don't know her. She is not my representative in any shape or form. If I passed her on the street today I wouldn't recognize her. I will repeat again: It is nothing but insanity for some muslims to begin to threaten public safety or order because of what she has said or done. If those angry muslims met me on the road on some sunny Friday afternoon (after their clerics had sufficiently amped up the situation) they would probably have no problem slitting my throat or beheading me. Where does anyone even begin to unravel the mentality behind such? This has been the template for over one third of a century in this country. Some Nigerian muslims take offence at some transgression or infraction and then begin to plunder, maim and kill at will. And invariably their targets are ordinary Nigerians whose only 'crime' is that they were going about their business, trying to make an honest living in very trying circumstances. There are several examples: The Denmark cartoon saga. The Miss World saga. The Gideon Akaluka saga. I could go on and on. For how long will non-muslims in Nigeria continue to apologize just for existing? Your references to Saudi and Chinese government policies on speech and narcotics trafficking are not the same thing as what we are discussing here - and you know it. How are they in any way related? |

radautoworks: ^^^^ Very very true. If I could turn back time I would have enrolled in mechanic school years ago. Too late now. These machines (cars, air conditioners, fridges, computers, printers, toasters, TVs, hifi, etc.) will still be with us for a while. Even if you don't choose to repair these things for a living, having the know how is a win on all counts. Saves you money and time fixing your own stuff. Makes you money if you decide to turn it into a career. Gives you the satisfaction of using your brain and your hands in a way that most desk bound, white collar workers will never experience. Yes the labour can be back breaking and you'll inhale more solvents than you can name but it beats being a bank clerk. Good job coming through with the classes for those young women. It really could be the beginning of a lifelong journey for at least some of them. 1 Like |

faceland: ^^^ You have this whole thing completely upside down. Look at the potential sequence of events carefully as you have laid them out. Etinosa Idemudia starts off by offending Nigerian muslims with her speech and her actions. These offended muslims vent their anger by hinting darkly at the possibility of maiming or murdering non-muslim bystanders who had absolutely nothing to do with Etinosa's actions. Is that reaction not repulsive to you? Instead of resisting the decision of these people to turn you into collateral damage in a matter you know nothing about, you have passively accepted your status as fodder. By your own admission, those who would so casually kill innocent bystanders are "hopeless bloody fundamentalists" and yet you would rather expend your energy (even if it takes 20 years) on killing Etinosa if she were to somehow escape death in all this? Where do you even begin to explain how you came up with such? Can you see where you have got it wrong? |

hyperflex: That slogan isn't a sound argument, sir. My point is very clear and I will make it again: Each individual has agency. It makes no sense if aggrieved muslims make subtle and not so subtle threats to public order and safety because of the speech and actions of a private individual. Is Etinosa Idemudia acting on your behalf or mine? Why then should you or me (or anyone else) suffer loss on her account? When will it end? There is not and will never be a shortage of things for people to get offended about. Will you cower in fear for your safety each time any other random non-muslim (whom you don't know from Adam) is considered to have spoken or acted out of turn? Do you understand now? |
Celebrities / Re: Imam Abdulrahman Ahmad Reacts As Etinosa Threatens To Mess The Quran Up by VolvoS60(m): 8:06pm On Dec 03, 2019 |
hyperflex: ^^^^ Take a close look at the key issues here. The question that should be asked is why comments by one Etinosa Idemudia should lead to religious or ethnic violence on anyone else. Why should comments by this woman cause me or anyone else to suffer loss in any way? Does that make any sense? Etinosa Idemudia is not my representative in any shape or form. I do not necessarily approve of or endorse her actions. But there is absolutely no reason on this earth for those who feel insulted by her speech or actions to take out their anger on me or anyone else with these veiled threats. That is pure insanity. There are proper channels for people to express their grievances. Not this. For us to even talk about this shows how low we have sunk. 2 Likes 1 Share |
