It will only get worse. A Miss World beauty pageant was held in Abuja in 2002. Some Nigerian muslims felt offended by the spectacle and seized upon comments made by a journalist - a certain Miss Isioma Daniels - to disrupt the peace. Nigerian Islamic clerics proclaimed a death sentence upon the woman's head. Scores were killed in the violence that followed - ordinary non-muslims who left their homes to earn their daily bread - people who knew absolutely nothing about Miss World contests. They paid for it with their blood. In September 2005, a cartoonist in far away Denmark did something muslims found provocative. Inexplicably, ordinary Nigerians (trying to survive in very trying circumstances) paid for it with their lives in the violence that followed. Those non-muslims in Nigeria who were just trying to earn their daily bread - ordinary people who couldn't find Denmark on a map if their lives depended on it - they paid for it with their blood. I could go on and on. The comments on the prior pages show that the programming and conditioning is almost complete. People who clearly do not know Etinosa Idemudia and who may not necessarily support or endorse her comments (and actions) are already apologizing on her behalf because of very real concerns about their safety. This is not even a case of being found guilty by association - after all, virtually none of these people have any links whatsoever with Etinosa Idemudia. How can people spend their lives atoning for the 'sins' of others? Is this an atmosphere in which to live? I honestly do not blame Nigerian muslims who have made it their life's work to spill blood at will. They are focused on the objectives they want to achieve and they are resolute. They know what they want and are prepared to get it by any means necessary. My contempt is for the brain dead, feeble minded non-muslims of Nigeria who continue to excuse (through sheer inertia) the slaughter under the dubious legitimacy of a malevolent shared nationhood - a so called federation "bound in freedom". Even newly born lambs have a better sense of self preservation. 1 Like |

Very good. Nigeria's contradictions are on full display on this thread. Yet again, and perhaps without meaning to, someone (in this case, a certain Miss. Etinosa Idemudia) is forcing Nigerians to confront their demons. The first few pages of this thread were full of worried comments by several posters that innocent people (who have absolutely nothing to do with Etinosa Idemudia or what she said) could pay with their lives for her comments (and/or future actions). Those fears are not unfounded. After all, there's precedent here. This young lady's comments (thoughtless, misguided or not) have thrown up some questions which we do not want to answer. But answer them we must. Not for the first time, we ask: What kind of country is it in which hundreds (or thousands) can so easily and casually become collateral damage for someone else's comments? Those people on previous pages who expressed genuine concern (and with good reason too) about their safety must accept this inconvenient truth: They do not have a country. That is the simple, yet awful truth. The sooner they realize this, the better. 1 Like 1 Share |
Car Talk / Re: How To Prepare Your Car For A Christmas Trip by VolvoS60(m): 6:50pm On Dec 02, 2019 |
You don't change engine oil, transmission oil and brake oil before every long trip - unless they were already due for a change to begin with. The owners manual is there to guide you! Not sure if there are mandatory mileage requirements for brake fluid drain and refill for most vehicles. Brake fluid is typically changed every 24 to 48 months (or perhaps slightly longer) for most passenger vehicles. It is not changed before every long trip - unless upon inspection there is something clearly wrong. Same thing for transmission fluid. ATF change intervals (both by time and mileage) vary considerably from vehicle to vehicle. It is not changed before every long trip - again unless upon inspection there is evidence of something seriously wrong. Same thing for motor oil. Save your money for the stuff which does break and which you can't run away from. 2 Likes |

To think I was the first to use the phrase "lion kings" on this platform... I should have trademarked it and forced all other users to pay me royalties...on this forum at least... For the OP and others like him who have the same question - think carefully about what matters most to you in a car. Is is the styling? Handling? Ergonomics? Performance? Ride Comfort? Reliability? Fuel economy? Resale value? Build Quality? Fit and finish? Running costs? The list is almost endless. Choose the car which ticks the boxes which matter most to you. Just make sure your choice is an informed one. Also remember that some of the things mentioned above are objective and can be measured while others are not. That's all. 2 Likes |

plaindealer: ^^^ Striking out the words in my post doesn't change anything. My words are still there and can still be read by all so what's the point? The name calling and derogatory references show quite clearly that you are losing the argument. You need to stop the violence. Clear the smoke oozing out your ears and nostrils and re-read what I wrote. Slowly. This matter will be settled by logic and reason - not hormonally driven, emotional outbursts. My point is simple. I accepted (for now) your assertion that your principal was never charged, arraigned or convicted for any crimes by a foreign country. You also denied knowledge of any forfeiture of assets by your principal to the authorities of a foreign country. I pressed you on this matter of forfeiture and you maintained your position. QED. So where is the anger coming from? Save your strength - you're going to need it. Cognitive dissonance really does wreak havoc on the mind and the body and that's exactly what's happening here - your fierce defence of an ethically challenged principal - a man with a huge moral deficit - is proving too hard for you to do. Just confirm whether that docket (in which your principal is referred to as 'the defendant') put up by another poster is real or fake. I have yielded the floor. No further questions for now. 1 Like |

OkCornel: ^^^ Almost 30 years ago, Olisa Agbakoba asked, (in response to an interviewer's questions on the Babangida administration's management of the economy): "What is Babangida's qualification in economics?" That question is still pertinent today. Running an economy is serious business. If a country's leaders do not know (or care) how a modern economy works (or should work) then disaster is inevitable. The fallout is more severe when it is a Professors of economics in Nigerian universities are wasting time and destroying their reputations by allowing themselves to be used (as so called returning officers) in endorsing fraudulent, sham elections - like the ones held in Bayelsa and Kogi last week. The time spent on all that rubbish would be better spent in forming pressure groups to insist that literacy (and hands on experience!) in economics and finance must be a prerequisite to leadership in this country. But like I said earlier, this is fantasy on my part. Nigerians do not yet fully understand that actions and choices have consequences. The pain will rise to unbearable levels - as the economy continues to falter and stumble from one dead end to the next. Perhaps we will learn an unforgettable lesson this way. Or perhaps not. 1 Like 1 Share |
Politics / Re: Henry Boyo Is Dead by VolvoS60(m): 10:35pm On Nov 21, 2019 |
Not one Nigerian president has had formal training (up to degree level) in economics and finance. Not a single one. It is inevitable that all of them are held hostage to advisers of all kinds - and government policy choices then become a matter of whoever has the president's ear. Unfortunately, all too often, advisers (in and out of government) with sinister motives win the war of influence. The result? Disastrous policy choices with severe real world consequences - mass suffering, widespread poverty, misery and death. Imagine the possibilities that could open up with a president who can comfortably hold his own against the army of economic advisers, technocrats, bureaucrats etc. (and the vested interests they represent) that he must work with. A president who actually has an economic policy agenda he designed (or helped design) from the ground up - and not one he passively received from so called 'advisers'. In summary, someone who knows what he's doing. But this is all wishful thinking on my part. Nigerians have chosen their leaders and they must live with the consequences of those choices. RIP, Mr Boyo. 1 Like 1 Share |

efficiencie: ^^^ You asked me a question and then answered it yourself. Why bother asking then? For the record, I have had quite a few interactions with the police. The cases involved fraud, shooting, road traffic accidents and armed robbery. I have written statements at police stations in a number of states across the country. So far I have not been locked up. That may change tomorrow. I cannot tell. Another poster spoke about how several people banded together in a case like this to prove to the police that there was no foul play on their part. I understand that some people may have had a nasty experience while trying to be their brother's/sister's keepers. But that shouldn't be used to discourage others who want to do the right thing. It can be done. |
Crime / Re: The Lion Found In An Indian's Lagos House Tranquilized And Evacuated by VolvoS60(m): 8:12pm On Nov 18, 2019 |
To those licking their lips at the prospect of lion meat - there is nothing tasty there. Its all tough, sinewy muscle with very little fat. The meat of carnivores sitting at the top of the food chain generally doesn't taste nice. And then there's the 'small' matter of having to first track, catch and kill these powerful, dangerous predators. Even if there is some debate on whether that lion cub there (definitely not up to two years old by the way) could (easily) kill an adult male human, it definitely could, at the very least, maim him for life. Those carnassials are not there for ornamental reasons. Respect nature. We humans are easily, pound for pound, one of the weakest species on the planet. Stripped of all the things that the human brain has created to give man an advantage - the average man wouldn't stand a chance against most wild animals. 3 Likes |
Travel / Re: Giant Cobra Killed And Swallowed Huge Python In Philippines(Photos) by VolvoS60(m): 5:54pm On Nov 18, 2019 |
Interesting pictures. The predator does look like a king cobra - they are the ones known to feed almost exclusively on other snakes - other cobras prey on rodents and other smaller animals. It appears this cobra was discovered (and then killed) while swallowing the python - feeding time is when snakes are most vulnerable. The only thing missing is the chevrons usually found on king cobras - these are conspicuously absent on this specimen. Not sure why. 1 Like |
