Lagos politics is won by agberos
They control the parks and streets.
A modern lagos transport system is bad for politics
It means the cash cow of free money will be gone
Tinubu makes daily money from all parks and bus stops and the agberos who are the middle men get a cut
That's why the likes of mc oluomo are rich and used during politics

Nigerian Journalist and sensational headlines for to sell Paper. This journalist was quick to make comparison with Ethiopia since we are all Africans but forgot to state that even in the same state, the same distance in different directions could cost different amounts due to the different topography of the terrain.

I took time to study the Ethiopia light rail and discovered that apart from the elevated track like the one in Lagos, there is no part of the project where they needed to construct a bridge over Lagoon and that cost quite a lot but the difference in the total contract sum could be significant.

The length of the elevated track could be an additional cost. So comparison should be eliminated in the discussion completely.

We should focus more on the reason for the delay and ask why it cost that much. The reporter should be able to cost the Chinese government and companies for more details, who know maybe the problem and delays could be from them.
^^^
The secrecy is the issue.

Any Lagos taxpayer should be able to get all (and I mean all the facts about the project) at the stroke of a keyboard. Any stake holder in Lagos should be able to get the project EIA and other project information without having to squeeze water out of stone.

The FOI Act should apply to Lagos state - and all other states in the federation. Until this happens we are fooling ourselves. Domestication of the Act will not solve all Nigeria's problems but it is a step in the right direction - towards ending the guesswork, speculation etc.

The truth will make us free.

Nigerians and ignorant comparisons, must we always needlessly compare especially with illogical and ignorant facts.

1. Lagos is a state in Nigeria, Ethiopia is a country with sovereign wealth fund and capacity to fund or borrow.

2. There is nothing comparable with both projects, Lagos Metro Rail is a combination of Metro rail, 10 lane freeway, BRT lane, stations and overhead bridges and a Metro bridge over the Lagos Lagoon.

So how related and comparable are both projects?

The $475 billion Ethiopia spent on ordinary metro rail is probably what they spent on the Metro Bridge over Lagos Lagoon alone in Lagos

This is how these Nigerian bloggers misguide and misinform poor and ignorant news consumers in Nigeria, they read their trash, they swallow them and start acting as if they've just been fed credible info.
^^^
The FOI act should be domesticated in Lagos state, so that the people can get the facts for themselves without being 'misinformed by bloggers'. They can make comparisons (between Addis and Lagos or wherever) from a position of knowledge.

The truth will make us free.

You are right but most of those come with a viscous clutch, which controls the fan speed based on coolant or oil temperature.

Almost like how your AC compressor pulley is always spining with engine but only "works" when the AC is on but in this case.. Fan spins at lower speed when temperature is low or when on the free way, high speed when idling or slow moving traffic
^^^
Fair point.

But to my untrained eye, the fan on this particular vehicle seems to spin at high speed even from rest (when the engine is cold - and one would expect low fan speed till operating temp is reached undecided). Perhaps this explains why for this vehicle, the temp needle on the instrument cluster NEVER gets to the halfway point (unlike several other Toyotas & Hondas I have come across) even after prolonged hard use in heavy traffic.

Car TalkRe: Toyota Announces That It Has Sold Over 10 Million Land Cruiser by VolvoS60(m): 7:33pm On Sep 24, 2019
Solid, reliably built motor vehicles.

When you buy a Land Cruiser, you're buying a product first of all. Branding and all those other extras are secondary. (Mercedes, Ford, Land Rover, BMW, GM - are you listening?)

Like I always say, there's a reason why mining engineers, oilmen, the UN, combatants in troubled spots etc. have a preference for Land Cruisers and other Toyotas. Toyota gets the job done!

Toyota is probably the only car maker that has had mid-level conflicts named after it (Google the 'Toyota wars') - publicity it would rather do without - but which shows that even warlords recognize the real deal when they see it. Imagine if ISIS, Al Qaida etc. had decided to use Dodge Rams, G Wagens, BMW X5s or Ford Raptors as their vehicles of choice - instead of the 'technicals' they do use. Those long running wars would have long since ended - far more time would have been spent on car repairs instead of combat and everyone would have gone home to rest. cheesy

The Land Cruiser and its cousins like the LS 400 have forever destroyed the myth that unreliability is par for the course with high end, 'luxury' automobiles. Toyota has proved, time and time again that it can be done.

The Toyota Way is 'the' way. wink

You are right, Sir.

A lot of Toyota, Hyundai, Honda and Kia owners do not have any sense. What do they mean by driving their common, low value econoboxes around when so many of us are walking? Are they mad? angry

They need to keep their cars at home so that the rest of us will not be tempted. angry

They do not understand that some of us have a compulsive need to get in any reliable car we see and drive it away. And we are prepared to kill you or anyone who dares to try stop us. Even if the car belongs to you.

If people cannot keep their cars safely locked away at home, then I cannot be blamed for the outcome. It isn't my fault if I cannot quench or control my lust for reliable transportation.

If you must bring your car out, make sure it is draped in a full length car cover to avoid leading me into temptation. If I should so much as see a hint of an exposed wheel cover or alloy rim then all bets are off. My thirst must be slaked!

^^^
No Sir.

At the risk of sounding like a broken record, I will repeat my response to other posters who share your viewpoint.

Nigerians living in Nigeria gathered the harvest of the grapes of wrath seeded 5 days ago. Not South Africans. Nigerians running their franchise businesses, trying to make a living, earn a profit and create value - they are the ones counting their losses at the moment.

Let that sink in for a minute.

And even if all the shops looted in Lagos were owned 100% by South Africans it still wouldn't be ok to loot them. But let's put that aside for now - and deal with the facts of the case - the businesses are largely owned and run by Nigerians. If these businesses are all owned and run by Nigerians then what has been gained by looting them? What point has been made? Whose interests have been served? undecided

The answer to all this is the part of your post I set in bold font. How can you call a government yours if it does nothing when your interests are being threatened? And if it does nothing to advance or protect your interests, what have you (and I) done to get rid of it? Is taking the law into our own hands - and hurting other Nigerians (who are also victims) the solution? undecided

You can "keep it real" - just make sure it doesn't go wrong.

It is quite painful when those who have never experienced the brutality unleashed on Nigerians by citizens of other countries in their nations speak without checking.

A few years ago, upon entering into Togo, our vehicle was trapped at the border. Reason: the Togolese wanted Nigerians to leave because Nigerians had taken over their businesses and women. Unfortunately the innocent among the Nigerians were made to suffer. You probably do not understand the extremities of xenophobia, particularly when it involves Nigerians. Granted that there are many irresponsible Nigerians out there. The bad Nigerians are only a small fraction of the decent ones in foreign lands. The innocent lose their lives. Many families back here grieve daily over the loss of their loved ones.

Now look at the attacks on the so called SA interests here. We never knew about South African interests until they were publicized. People were told that Shoprite, DSTV and MTN belonged to South Africa and they targeted them.

See, no single one has the prerogative of violence. The black man believes in an eye for an eye no matter the pretence of religious inclination. The South African police turned the other way. Baba go slow made no move. Several times Nigerians at home threatened reprisals and nothing was done. Definitely we expected this action to arise someday.

The Zimbabwean president spoke about the attacks on their own people. Surely with this we hope the SA authorities will wake up to the reality of the matter and do something about it.

Looting of people’s property is highly irresponsible but when you have such governments and leaders what do you expect?
^^^

No Sir.

You are missing the point (no pun intended).

The most important part of your response is the part I set in bold font. It says all that needs to be said.

Your government is your voice. It is supposed to represent you. It is supposed to work for you. It is supposed to speak for you. If it does not do any of these things - and you (by 'you' I mean Nigerians as a group) cannot bend it to your will and hold it accountable then you are to blame.

If Nigerians cannot force their government to act in the interests of Nigerians (both home and abroad) then who will do it? Is it the Saudis, Russians or the Chinese? undecided

The stupidity of the events of the last 48 hours (after the SA news broke) is breathtaking. Nigerians clearly bore the brunt of the looting here. I am ready to wager that the people who suffered losses here do not have a hand in any of the events in SA. So whose interests were served then?

There are rules in this game. There is a reason why troublemakers dare not touch the nationals of some countries - their governments will breathe so hard down the necks of the troublemakers home governments - they'll wonder what hit them.

There are rules in this game.

Bro your judgement is not accepted. An attack in what ever form it is serves the purpose of driving home the point. With this attack, South Africa would be reminded that they have interests in other countries that can be ruined too. If other nationals from other countries can attack them this way the South Africans would realize their citizens in other countries and their properties would pay the price.

Next in line should be Ghana and Togo. These people who carry agoyin beans everywhere. They have taken over the mason jobs here, tiling, panel beating, painting, etc. They should be put together and sent back to their respective countries.
^^^
No.

This doesn't make any sense. So any and all 'attacks' are fine as long as they, as you say,"drive home the point"? What is the point exactly? undecided

As so many others have pointed out on here - the businesses that were looted are run by Nigerian franchise operators, not South Africans (and even if they were run by South Africans it still wouldn't be ok to loot them). So what's your argument then?

As for your comments about Ghana and Togo - please tell me you are some high level satirist (although something tells me you aren't) trying to raise the ire of those who can't read between the lines. If you can't see the irony in protesting South African xenophobia while promoting same against Ghanaian/Togolese nationals then...

It's going to get worse - much worse, before it gets even a little better.

The Richard Ogundiyas of this world are many. No doubt. But they exist in such large numbers - and wield such influence because Nigerians allow this.

Nigerians need to learn a painful, searing truth. Actions and choices have consequences. These are indisputable truths. They are incontrovertible. We ignore them at our peril.

Nigerians do not have the focus and singularity of purpose to demand good leadership. And how can we - when we do not have any understanding of what good followership is? undecided Our popular culture extensively discusses poor leadership and how it has destroyed this country. This is NOT a king cobra.

It is a mature forest cobra - and an unusually large one at that. Forest cobras are usually black and a defining characteristic is their yellow ventral blotches or patches - particularly around the scales of the head and upper third of the body.

King cobras are not native to Africa. They are not usually black - and defining characteristics are the chevrons running the entire length of their dorsal scales.

This argument should have been put to rest by now. There are far too many threads on here confusing west african forest cobras for king cobras. What is not in doubt is that they are both regal, iconic creatures. It is a pity their natural habitat is shrinking and this is bringing them into direct conflict with human beings.
