Any ideas on how to go about it? |

raystar96:Is it biblical for a Christian to bank their money? |
Gombs:Good question applicable not just to Winsomex but all of us. It is quite easy to point out wrongs that to effectively execute your 'right' way |
daroz:Pls,can you read English? 1. Tithing in the scriptures is a very minor point of the Law as Jesus taught sso it's not really worth plucking your hair over 2. Christian tithing has no scriptural basis. Elsewhere I called it a tradition and not a doctrine because of this 3. Tithing has some benefits usually missed by its opponents |
Gombs:My broda, Given tithing in the OT is far from the weightier things of the law, we should not have pro and anti-tithing jihadis. I wrote and angry book 'exposing the tithing scam'. Then I thought really hard about whether such a non-issue deserves such fury. Not worth it. Let believers tithe if they will. All I do is engage those close to me on the subject wherever and whenever. And it gets a tad boring repeating the same arguments over and over. Fact remains, There is extremely weak exegetical basis for tithing in Christianity. The pro-tithing brigade make up for this by emotional appeal and blackmail and frequent extra-biblical 'revelations'.' God showed me','God said to me'......'how can you be so mean as to keep everything you were given to yourself?' The anti-tithing gang overcompensate this by despising the principles that could be gleaned from the practice. My high school uniform had navy blue trousers. Years in the uniform made me hate the color so much that I have only had one navy blue suit in my life and I gave it away years ago. |
ayoku777:Think about this; 1 Corinthians 9:14-15 English Standard Version (ESV) 14 In the same way, the Lord commanded that those who proclaim the gospel should get their living by the gospel. 15 But I have made no use of any of these rights, nor am I writing these things to secure any such provision. For I would rather die than have anyone deprive me of my ground for boasting. What/who did God command? Is it not the body of Christ? This clear command entitles Paul to some rights. So while amounts, frequency and nature are not specified unlike under OT,supporting ministers is a commandment. Supporting ministry is not something you indulge in whenever you suffer from some occasional bouts of magnanimity; it is a commandment from YHWH, from Jesus Christ. To this extent it is as a commandment as tithing |
ayoku777:The NT giving borrowed heavily from Moses. It takes some serious conscious effort to miss the similarity between supporting Levi with offerings and supporting ministers of the gospel. Paul under inspiration most certainly did not miss it. 1 Corinthians 9:13-14 (KJV) Do ye not know that they which minister about holy things live of the things of the temple? and they which wait at the altar are partakers with the altar? 14 Even so hath the Lord ordained that they which preach the gospel should live of the gospel. Remember the NT 'grace giving ' formula? 1 Corinthians 9:7 (KJV) Every man according as he purposeth in his heart, so let him give; not grudgingly, or of necessity: for God loveth a cheerful giver. It too has its roots in Torah; Exodus 25:2 (ESV) Speak to the people of Israel, that they take for me a contribution. From every man whose heart moves him you shall receive the contribution for me Exodus 35:5 (ESV) 5 Take from among you a contribution to the Lord. Whoever is of a generous heart, let him bring the Lord's contribution: gold, silver, and bronze The so called 'grace giving' is not exactly new. I know believers tend to disparage the Law as mechanical and all that. This is not necessarily the case. Nobody denies the strength of the principle behind tithing; discipline and consistency forget about the percentages. So a Christian on their own volition arriving at tithing is not legalism. You can borrow the principle without reverting to Moses |
daroz:I used to be a rabid anti-tithing crusader. I was probably reacting angrily to the lies that had been shoved down my throat with such force and eloquence. Nowadays I don't tithe but this is my take; 1. Tithing your income is not a sin. Nor is Sunday/Saturday/Friday worship. You don't violate ANY of God's Word by doing any of these. 2. Tithing and Sunday worship are no express commandments or commandments of any sort 3. Both tithing and Sunday worship are BENEFICIAL; they inculcate discipline and inject into a Christian's life some form of predictability. 4. Tithing and Sunday worship as Christian traditions rooted in Torah. You will never find any command anywhere to meet on any day but you find Christians meeting on Sabath at first and later on the First Day/Sunday 5. Both tithing and Sunday worship have been abused and used to make believers guilty by ministers. You have some Christians who believe one can't be born again and hold a Sunday job, or skipping Sunday worship is inviting God's wrath. All God requires is regular assembly as per Hebrews with no commandment on the frequency or days. With tithing, all God requires is supporting the ministers of the gospel. No minimum is stipulated 6. Both tithing and Sunday worship are despised by some believers generally who latch on the act that they are no commandment to ignore them with contempt 7. There is shocking ignorance among believers concerning both Tithing and Sunday worship. Many simply assume they are commandments, and they never bother to validate these beliefs from the scriptures. This is why anti-tithers and SDAs easily corner tither and Sunday worshippers. So you may win either argument not necessarily because you are smart or right but because your debater is largely ignorant of the subject 8. Solution to Abuse of tithing and Sunday worship should be proper use and not necessarily disuse PS: I have used interlaced my response with Sunday worship which was not the subject. This is no digression but to demonstrate similar principles and attitudes underlying both Cc Gombs,Winsomex,Bidam,PaulGrundy,Goshen360,Ayoku777,esere826,PastorKun,MarkMiwerds,Image123 |

italo:Couldn't agree more! ![]() |
ayo4lahanyahoo:You should aks SonofLucifer ![]() Seriously, tongues happen to be human languages and the devil sure can understand human languages. But Paul makes a hypothetical statement in 1 Cor 14 about tongues of angels. This would be the language of angels and not men. So some imagine the devil can't hear that. But, Satan is a fallen angel so it still is not convincing. You don't need an encrypted means of communication so as to prevent Satan from eavesdropping. If the enemy seeks to be one step ahead of you by eavesdropping your prayers, am certain God would not allow it whether you spoke in tongues or not....just my opinion |

sportsmaster:Hi, How should I respond to this sir? |
Goodyshoes:It is well my broda, That is a short book on the subject and I went through it and agreed with it 110%. So I highly recommend it |
Goodyshoes:You raise several points and you may not get short answers. May be we should start with a definition of tongues Mark 16:17 (KJV) And these signs shall follow them that believe; In my name shall they cast out devils; they shall speak with new tongues; 18 They shall take up serpents; and if they drink any deadly thing, it shall not hurt them; they shall lay hands on the sick, and they shall recover. Believers shall speak with new tongues. The word tongue simply mean language. Believers shall speak with new languages That is a promise. To help us understand exactly what it means, we look for a recorded example of believers speaking in tongues. Acts Acts 2:4-7 (KJV) And they were all filled with the Holy Ghost, and began to speak with other tongues, as the Spirit gave them utterance. 5 And there were dwelling at Jerusalem Jews, devout men, out of every nation under heaven. 6 Now when this was noised abroad, the multitude came together, and were confounded, because that every man heard them speak in his own language. 7 And they were all amazed and marvelled, saying one to another, Behold, are not all these which speak Galilaeans? V4- they spoke with other languages as the Spirit gave them utterance. So the supernatural aspect of this event is not speaking in a different language, it is the Spirit who enabled them to do it. With enough time, you can learn any language and develop fluency. You would be speaking in many languages/tongues but not spontaneously by the Spirit. The big deal here was diasporas Jews heard Galileans speaking in their local dialects. This tells me the 120 disciples in the upper room spoke SEVERAL languages. So tongues are not restricted to a particular language. I heard some guys suggest that tongues are given in Hebrew language. V6- again the diasporas heard their language. What of the local Jews in Jerusalem? You can bet they heard gibberish. Because they understood not the 'internTional' dialects spoken by the 120 unless they had learnt them before. Acts 2:8-11 (KJV) And how hear we every man in our own tongue, wherein we were born? 9 Parthians, and Medes, and Elamites, and the dwellers in Mesopotamia, and in Judaea, and Cappadocia, in Pontus, and Asia, 10 Phrygia, and Pamphylia, in Egypt, and in the parts of Libya about Cyrene, and strangers of Rome, Jews and proselytes, 11 Cretes and Arabians, we do hear them speak in our tongues the wonderful works of God The ones who understood the tongues heard the 120 speak of wonderful works. Sounds like they were really praising God. So God will not engineer tongues in you so you can use it against Him. Is it a 'religious exercise'? First I have no idea what you mean by 'religious exercise'. If you mean to suggest whether they are important or not, all I can say is, they originate from Holy Spirit and I doubt he has a penchant for 'religious exercises' Are they a 'prerequisite for getting into God's Kingdom'? The answer is NO. All you need is to believe in Jesus Christ and confess him as Lord and you are born again. You are now a believer and in this state, you are a CANDIDATE for this gift. Let's ask Peter Acts 2:38 (KJV) Then Peter said unto them, Repent, and be baptized every one of you in the name of Jesus Christ for the remission of sins, and ye shall receive the gift of the Holy Ghost. 39 For the promise is unto you, and to your children, and to all that are afar off, even as many as the Lord our God shall call AND YOU SHALL RECEIVE THE GIFT OF THE HOLY SPIRIT. It means AFTER this, you receive the gift. At this point you are already a child of God. Some people believe you must be baptized with water FIRST before you receive the gift, but in Acts 10, the gift fell on Cornelius family BEFORE baptism. So it is not necessary. Further, in Acts 19, Paul finds believers who had never heard of the baptism of the Holy Spirit. Acts 19:1-2 (KJV) And it came to pass, that, while Apollos was at Corinth, Paul having passed through the upper coasts came to Ephesus: and finding certain disciples, 2 He said unto them, Have ye received the Holy Ghost since ye believed? And they said unto him, We have not so much as heard whether there be any Holy Ghost. These were Christians alright but they had yet to receive the Gift. So receiving the baptism of the Holy Spirit AND the attendant sign of speaking in tongues is no 'prerequisite'. |
