To coin a phrase, teach a child in the way he should go and he will not depart from it. ‘Please brother lap me (Carry me)’ a big eyed young boy appealed to me at the busy Oshodi bus stop this morning. Unfortunately I denied his request. I asked him to sit down next to me. ‘Pelumi’ that’s the boy’s name. A primary 5 student at St Francis primary school, Maryland in Lagos was on his way to school; sadly without the luxury of a school bus, worse still, no transport fare. He was on his way to school-hitch hiking. Transport fares have more than doubled in Lagos following a week long shortage of fuel. The time was 8.43 A.M, more than half an hour after the first school period had began. I asked Pelumi if this was usual. His response was disheartening. Every morning ‘uncle please lap me’ had become the bus ticket to school. The only difference today was his guardian had upset him, so without her usual hand to steer him through the traffic and her better accustomed pleading voice to ease accessing a ‘ticket’ on time, he had ‘vamoosed’ from home,, http://connectafrica./2009/05/08/going-to-schoo…ungry-stomachs/ |

The day was Thursday the 30th of April, location; Oregun, Lagos. An opened bottle of diet coke lay before my desk. I’d always being a fan of coke products- their catchy ads and mantra were as popular as Christmas carols. But there was something wrong with this particular beverage- a swig from the bottle was enough to arrive at a conclusion. The best before date on the bottle’s cap answered my doubts. The drink or rather the poison before me was more than a month old.coke6 On the double ConnectAfrica correspondents made a dash to the shop where the drink was bought. A rather naïve sales attendant apologetically collected the drink from the correspondent. Her offer to replace the drink only unearthed more rot. Stacked in a corner of the room were cartons of expired diet coke, http://connectafrica./2009/05/06/expired-coca-c…ing-in-nigeria/ |
A French magistrate has opened a preliminary investigation into alleged embezzlement by three African leaders. Presidents Omar Bongo of Gabon, Denis Sassou-Nguesso of Republic of Congo and Teodoro Obiang Nguema of Equatorial Guinea deny any wrongdoing. The investigation follows lawsuits by the French branch of an anti-corruption group, Transparency International. It has accused the three leaders of buying luxury homes and cars in France with money from African public funds, http://connectafrica./2009/05/06/african-leaders-to-be-tried-by-french-magistrate/ |

Carpenter wey no know im work, na sowegbe-(a Yoruba word for a loafer), Tailor wey no know im work, na sowegbe’. This is a popular refrain from one of late Afro beat star Fela Anikulapo Kuti’s hits of the 70’s; one that aptly describes the recent resignation of the Ekiti State Resident Electoral commissioner, Mrs Olusola Ayoka Adebayo. In a letter which by now could debatably become the letter of the year and perhaps the most controversial letter in Nigeria’s history penned in three paragraphs but has drawn admirably a landmark readership base and attracted all facets of reactions since it was released to the public. The love gone sour terse note gave the author’s reason for resigning as her deep seated respect for the rule of law and her Christian inclination. The INEC chairman, Maurice Iwu was the most expressive of all the respondents. His usually stone cold ghoulish personae were amplified as he moon walked past several reporters who had laid siege at the presidential villa. He just stared, dumb as a basenji, http://connectafrica./2009/04/29/felas-nigeria-ekitis-house-of-comedy/ |

aha LUCY KIBAKI is legendary, slapping journalists destroying camera's and even slapped a disk jockey silly in the presence of her husband once simply because he wrongly identified her |
Hey bru cool down. obj ain't my lantern or candle.but then i'm not the AU that's being appointing him ![]() |
obj-vilage goat.but apparently it appears he is Nigeria's bright and shining lamp to the outside world. |
The head of the AU observer team to SA. Nigeria’s former leader Olusegun Obasanjo says South Africa’s general elections were free fair and credible. Obasanjo had who had toured the Kwazulu-Natal, Nanka, Durban and two other areas, observing the polls said the electorate had exercised their voting rights with enthusiasm which was indicative of their desire to make a success of the polls despite genuine fear. He said his impression of the polls is a testimony to the birthing of a mature democracy in South Africa. The chief AU observer argued that the incidents of electoral malpractices were isolated and would not affect the credibility of the election. ‘We cannot legislate for the behavior of electoral officials, we must make allowance for human error’ The former Nigerian leader argued adding that if 4 electoral fraud incidents were reported in the entire country, the electoral commission-IEC deserved to be congratulated, http://connectafrica./2009/04/23/obasanjo-scores-sa-polls-high/ |
some questions don't have answers |
there were several other Jewish feasts beside the feast of first fruit, why single out only one and leave the rest out. Be that as it may if you're going to practice the feast then IT HAS TO BE PERFORMED EXACTLY AS IT WAS STIPULATED |
well tithes is agreeable it can be argued; there are scriptures supporting it's existence b4 the law. u know it's a faith thing. Abraham gave to Melchizedec and all that. because it was b4 the law that's y u cannot be caused for nothing obeying i; .but 1st fruit i've reasoned it out there's no way for this one |
the feasts and ceremonies of the old testament where just types and shadows of that which is to come. they were never meant to be the real deal but that when the original is come we could put the old away and live in the new. QED |
i agree that a revolutionary change is set to happen in South Africa following Zuma's installation tomorrow, but then at what price? sunken moral levels. i think i'd side with Arc Bishop Desmond Tutu on this one; Zuma is sure going to be one hell of an unethical president-whats his stand on HIV? But then in Africa we get them Boku; King Mswati of Swaziland next door is trying eclipse Solomon, i'm sure he'd have a few tips for Zuma. Zuma- with 4 wives is doing pretty fine, |
i agree hoha don't blame DEAD especially when they knowingly knew the risks they were taken |
It is doubtful if the nascent Obama administration would dare to touch-down an American camouflage at the Mogadishu international airport-last year’s scene of a long stand-off between Islamist militia’s and the AU’s peace-keeping force. The militants had warned the AU not to land its aircrafts and the AU disobeyed to its huge disadvantage. Nigeria which is Africa’s biggest supplier of troops to troubled spots in the continent has been mute; its foreign affairs minister, Ojo Maduekwe had stunned Nigeria’s local press two months ago when he said Nigeria was not ready for the body bags. There is no Nigerian soldier in Somalia The Gulf of Aden has suddenly become some sort of aquatic United Nations-the western world’s odyssey. This week, South Korea sent in a war ship to escort one of its several commercial vessels which make use of the route yearly adding to nearly two dozen international naval forceshttp://connectafrica./2009/04/17/from-bakara-to…es-pirates-ire/ |
