His mantra throughout the electioneering campaign two years ago was ‘EKO O NI BAJE O’ which literally means Lagos will not be destroyed. Two years and Governor Tunde Fashola is perhaps doing the best solo cabaret Nigeria’s commercial capital has seen in a long while. Oshodi, a slum settlement in the state’s centre is feeling the brunt of the Governor’s ram-rod desire to transform Lagos into a mega city and perhaps 1 of 20 most important and influential global cities by the year 2020, http://connectafrica./2009/01/06/lagos-state-gov-condemned-to-succeed/ |
@idlewaker, slumbereth not anymore, there's plenty of gist next door in the foreign section |
Information and communications minister, professor dora akunyili on Tuesday ordered staffs of the ministry as well as their spouses and children who may have received free mobile telephone lines and cable television network from network operators to return such free facilities to the network providers on or before January 30, 2009, failure to return such free facilities before the deadline according the minister would be regarded as their way of collecting bribe to pave way for such operators to carry out their exploitations on innocent Nigerians. now thats more like it |
lasana conte, abacha mugabe eyadema omar bongo etc, are all sicko psychopaths.what we call democracy in africa is a system or rather a conurbation of banana republics. how can guinea be ploughed back to military rule in the year 2008!!!!!. last time it was Mauritania, tomorrow it will be Zimbabwe because the military has vowed not to allow tsvangirai be commmander in chief, now is the time to act and boot out that beast mugabe. african never seems to learn ,when houphet boigny of ivory coast ruled eternally the west hailed that country as a stable democracy. the man died and the rest is history. ivory coast is deeply divided is forever the brink of civil war. http://connectafrica. |
if tsvangirai is white then michael jackson is still back, and okotie would become president of Nigeria one day. the truth is Mugabe could just die tomorrow but the lasana conte scenario could just play out. the military in zimbabwe have already sworn not to take orders from tsvangirai. well we're keepin our fingers crossed waiting for the death of the tyrant |
I think it takes a little more pressure a little more unsettling of d zimbabwean $ then its uhuru |
;DZimbabwe President Robert Mugabe has said African nations lack the courage to use military force to oust his government, the state-run Herald newspaper reported on Friday. The comment, made during a high-level meeting of Mugabe’s ZANU-PF party on Thursday, came amid growing international pressure on the Zimbabwean leader, whose critics say his policies have wrecked the economy. http://connectafrica./2008/12/19/mugabe-dares-african-leaders/ |

Zimbabwe’s President Robert Mugabe should be seen as a “21st Century Hitler”, a senior South African Anglican bishop has said. Bishop of Pretoria Joe Seoka called on churches to pray for his removal, South African Press Association reports. mugabe-hitler1His comments came as the US ambassador to Zimbabwe warned that the country was turning into a “failed state”. On Thursday, Mr Mugabe said a deadly cholera outbreak had been stopped, as aid workers warned it was worsening. He said Western powers were plotting to use cholera as an excuse to invade and overthrow him. The World Health Organization says the outbreak has not been contained and the death toll has increased to 792 people, reports the AFP news agency. The UK minister for Africa Lord Mark Malloch-Brown said he did not know which world Mr Mugabe was living in. However, Mr Mugabe’s spokesman George Charamba said the president’s comments had been “sarcasm”. .http://connectafrica./2008/12/12/mugabe-hitler-of-our-time/ |

the message ought to be taken to our 'churches'; deliverance clinics were many of theses charlatans practice |
Police in south-east Nigeria have arrested a man who claimed to have killed 110 child “witches”. “Bishop” Sunday Ulup-Aya told a documentary film team he “delivered” children from demonic possession. But after his arrest, he reportedly told the police he had only killed the “witches” inside, not the children. Child rights campaigners say children are frequently abandoned, hideously injured and even murdered because their families believe they are witches, http://connectafrica./2008/12/04/nigeria-child-witch-killer-arrested/ |

@shegirl, well as a good citizens journalist you should know what is called a DEVELOPING STORY. the Indian PM five minutes ago said the attacks had an external link.and just now AP reported that the Indian navy had intercepted a ship off the coast of Mumbai which it believed was linked with the attacks. this inadvertently would mean pakistan. these guys were too sophisticated.and deccan mujaheeded couldn't have carried this, they are incapable. in the aftermath of 9/11 alqaeada denied responsibility and was accepted by some unknown which later fizzled out into oblivion |
the Indian PM says there was an external link to the attacks, making this decan Muhadeen angle a bit spurious. AP has reported that the Indian navy is presently boarding a ship off the coast of Mumbai which could have been the take off point for the terrorists. there could have come in by sea from pakistan |
@ poster .great finally, but theres already a post on this on the local section. try bringing it over here and lets get the ball rolling |
@shegirl, macabre sense of humour, its not about dining with the terrorists but watching events as they unfold, if you've good ears and eyes you'd realize and recognize the mendacious streak of a terror attack once you see one. because the truth about this attack is friendship with the US is enmity with terrorists which is the price india is paying now. this according to its PM is its version of 9/11 |
@shegirl unfortunately there is never a motive for such attacks, just sheer hatred for the very ideals of modern civilization, liberty, democracy, equality and freedom of expression, just like when they struck at the American embassies in Kenya and Tanzania. |
this is definitely different from previous terror attacks; the terrorists were asking for Americans and Britons and the targets were neither mosques nor Hindu temples but rather tourist centres and hotels and a jewish outpost which are usually frequented by foreigners. these are definitely traits of an extreme islamist group like alqaeda |
i think homeland security got its wires crossed, perhaps the India was the real target, watch the synchronization of the attacks, it's redolent of an alqaeda attack |
it is indeed terrible. this post ought to be in the foreign section. the timing is very auspicious considering the recent profiling of India as an emerging super economy in the wake of the global economic meltdown, its week long programme on cnn, 'INDIA MEANS BUSINESS' is still running. finally these guys are Islamic fundamentalists, i am a Christian and there isn't anywhere in the koran where the sought of barbaric act is encouraged, the guys a different modus operandi, mendacious mullahs for example afghanistan's previous taliban regime sposored state terrorism, just the like the somali islamists so don't get it all mixed up not all muslims are like this |
AP says US federal authorities have reported a terror threat from terrorist group, Al-Qaeda. The department of homeland security says the report was unconfirmed and unsubstantiated but may have come about through intercepted discussions between several Al-qaeda members which suggested the group was planning an attack on the New York subway system. the threat is said involve either suicide bombers or planted bombs at several transit points. several Americans make use of the subway on regular working days but the there is a boom during the holiday period. the ritual thanksgiving which is tomorrow marks the beginning of the American holiday season, http://connectafrica. |
Our president is a slow worker & needs to be given drugs such as herione so that he can think & act fast. ![]() |
The trendiest aftermath phrase after every failed adventure in Africa’s most populous nation is ‘getting back to the drawing board’. From Nigeria’s national soccer team- the super eagles, to the recently failed and ambitious space project- NIGCOMSAT1, everyone’s got a T-square plotting straight and crooked tangents on an already overcrowded national drawing board, perhaps the most crammed up board in existence. But who’s fooling who? The country’s national development rolling plans have been abandoned for nearly 3 decades but even then where at best subterfuges-white elephant projects moving in an unending cycle of pretentious motion. My concern today isn’t with the amorphous board of carpenters acting as ministers or hairdresser s and cosmetologists teaching us about the dynamics of the crude oil market or democratic governance. It is unfortunately about an ailing schizophrenic Nigerian leader who is lost in touch with the Nigerian reality. True he may not possess the charm, guile and evil mien of military despots like Babaginda and Abacha, but even the crudest of the ilk; Olusegun Obasanjo at his worst –like when he feigned ignorance that a bottle of cooking oil was more expensive than a litre of fuel or when he publicly whipped a security operative for assaulting an overzealous political enthusiast -would win a popularity contest by a landslide when pitched against Umaru. Nigeria’s Leader President Yar ‘Adua more than a year in office still can’t find his voice in the conscience of Nigerians. Sometimes I think he is surprised at the sound of his voice, flabbergasted at the insincerity of his dreams. His press parleys if they ever happened are best described as stifling and lack-lustre. This pervasive immobility runs thick through the President’s cabinet; twenty ministers dropped meant twenty new-fangled ministers to thinker Yar’ Adua’s vision 2020 but the list of ministerial nominees after it took more than an eternity to materialize left sawdust in the mouths of not a few political watchers. What does Rilwan Lukman for example have to offer after more than 40 years in Government? Last weekend another nauseating event played out, I watched in stupefaction the NIPSS graduation. The story however was the missing former Anti-corruption tsar, Nuhu Ribadu from the ceremony, though he had met the requirements necessary for his graduation, the Institute preferred to play the hard ball. No certificates and no explanations; and like has become the norm, mum is the word. This stultifying aloofness is redolent of the Abacha years of ‘NO COMMENT’ –for the President has suddenly found it economical to keep silent on all issues. The truth lies in this; this president doesn’t score. His pallid look and bogus babariga wearing knights have failed to inspire confidence in a very impatient electorate. Before the bubble burst on high crude oil prices-Nigeria’s external foreign reserves is near $70 billion-there was never a trickledown effect on its impoverished populace-inadequate infrastructure and social services, unemployment are still rife. The Government isn’t talking because it is caught in a vicious cycle of inactivity; this government is slumbering and is snoring shamefully loud. Ribadu was a good man, during an interview last year he’d told me that there were bad people threatening to scupper all he’d done. Brutus considered Caesar’s goodwill ambitious and Dante remarked the road to hell is laden with good intentions consequently Ribadu was exiled to Kuru, but then this woolly Government performed a ‘Usain Bolt’ rebuttal denying any vindictiveness in Ribadu’s removal. Its silence so far is a pointer to the mendacious diabolical political system that has and continues to hoodwink this nation’s quest toward greatness, http://connectafrica./2008/11/25/an-aloof-king-and-his-misfit-knights/ |
