The fault lies in the way our leaders past and present treat religion within the context of secularism. Too often people get away with so much just because they hide under the banner of religion.

Im a muslim of the sunni persuasion, but I totally condemn the way my brothers hijack roads and highways on fridays for prayers, shutting down traffic. And no one says a word.

Also, Living Faith near barnawa usually blocks the main road or causes gridlock.

Sometimes naming ceremonies, weddings and graduations lead to blockades of main roads.

This habit is illegal, therefore it's not just the shiites blocking roads. Everyone does it.

All through our history every government treats religion as bigger than the state, and both adherents and clerics larger than life and above the law. Consider the case of TB Joshua and the court summons.

Government must stop paying lip service to secularism and truly separate religion and state. Only in this way can people be held accountable for their misdeeds.

At the same time the shiites are in no position to blackmail government as a precondition for peace. Their members created and exacerbated the situation with their aggressive posture, bearing dangerous weapons, chanting war songs etc, giving the already trigger happy NA the opportunity to unleash mayhem.

All in all, the shiites or any other sect have a right to practice their faith, but they've no right to block highways and deny rights of ways to anyone, or to interfere with state machinery.
