True wealth either appreciates or is immutable, while liquid is...well... liquid.

No wonder the truly rich invest in items with intrinsic value such as paintings, scuptures, and other pieces of art. You don't pay taxes on those for owning those while you do for liquid.

As for stocks, well: it's foolish wealth. Virtual riches even, since it's mostly speculative and refers to fortunes that exist only on paper and in computers. Most corporations have restrictions on trading your shares as a CEO on the pain of litigation for insider trading or influencing the market, so converting stocks to liquid isn't as easy and straightforward.

A lot of CEOs earn a dollar a month and get the bulk of their compensation in stocks and shares. Little tax to pay, and lots of high networth.

But then, when your networth is in the billions of dollars range, you don't really need much cash to live; hotels would give you free royalty suites just to market your visitation as an accolade to attract more visitors. "Why, Zuckerberg stayed in this very room!"
