I doubt anyone here has seen anyone drowning or near drowning before. When you're struggling in the water, you don't have time to look at tyres or floaters or anything else those insensitive people threw into the water. For a non-swimmer, it typically involves desperate lunges to keep your head from under the water and to gulp in precious oxygen.

How do I know this? because I nearly drowned in a swimming pool many years ago. I was in water depth of just 7 feet and yet if someone wasn't around to pull me out, i'd have died that day.
